La giornata era tutta davanti a loro, Radif e gli altri li avevano lasciati con la speranza di combattere fianco a fianco in un futuro non troppo lontano per sconfiggere l’invasore, Pelor si era unito alla loro causa ed ora, dovevano cercare un modo per vestirlo. Le cose prese nelle stanze di Turmog non erano troppo congeniali al nuovo guardiano del gruppo.

Come avevano fatto prima di imbarcarsi nell’antro di Turmog, Osiris e Carlos portarono il giovane Pelor in un negozio di magia nascosto tra i vicoli della cittadina.

Dopo diverse svolte, vicoli bui e strade sconosciute, l’insegna che capeggiava sul negozio fu avvistata dal chierico. Un leggero sorriso si manifestò sulla bocca del prete che venne mantenuto per tutto il tempo che permasero all’interno del negozio.

Il vecchio proprietario salutò i due acquirenti già conosciuti e si presentò al nuovo. “Benvenuto giovane avventuriero, cosa posso fare per te?”, Pelor espose le sue richieste, doveva necessariamente trovare degli indumenti più consoni al suo ruolo, sopratutto visto che si sarebbe unito al gruppo avrebbe sicuramente dovuto combattere.

Il vecchio ci pensò su, andò nel retro bottega e seguì alla lettera le richieste dell’umano. Il kit dell’avventuriero più altre ammennicoli aggiuntivi. Infine, mostrò al guardiano delle armature che avrebbero potuto fare al caso suo. Naturalmente, il vecchio suggerì il “solito” pagamento, ovvero un recupero per l’oggetto acquistato.

Accettarono l’offerta. I Tre si recarono nel luogo indicato, recuperarono la piccola scatola e tornarono dal vecchio.

I simboli divini sulla scatola erano impressionanti, Carlos era sicuro che fossero tutti sigilli protettivi ed il vecchio pazzo confermò i pensieri del deva. Tutti quei simboli, servivano affinché la scatola non fosse rivelata ad un qualsiasi incantesimo ma che mantenesse celato il luogo dove si trovava. Come il vecchio sapesse dove fosse era una domanda che non venne alla mente di Osiris e gli altri.

Il vecchio, l’aprì guardandosi bene dal cancellare ogni singolo simbolo protettivo. Nella vecchia scatola, una chiave ed un lucchetto. Il vecchio sorrise. “Esistono davvero allora…” fece e questa frase mise in moto la curiosità del prete. “E’ difficile dire se sono esattamente ciò che cercavo ma Jarod descrisse in uno dei suoi scritti degli oggetti che racchiudevano un potere particolare, qualcosa che avrebbe potuto fermare l’invasione. A cosa possa servire questa chiave e questo lucchetto arrugginiti proprio non lo so ma li studierò. Anzi, se doveste trovare qualcosa su Jarod il Giullare potremmo discutere di eventuali altri scambi”, Osiris e Carlos non diedero a vedere al vecchio che conoscevano Jarod ed i suoi scritti e si limitarono solo a confermargli che ci avrebbero pensato.

Pelor aveva avuto la sua armatura ed i suoi strumenti, Osiris si vide regalare alcune delle pietre per affilare la sua spada. Una giornata proficua per loro, ora non restava che riposarsi ed aspettare l’arrivo del messaggero della resistenza.

Seeing as Jon doesn’t give a fuck about Arby ‘n’ The Cheif anymore, then I don’t see why we can’t make countless spin-offs. I’m sure we could get the series going again. In “Hard Love,”  Gio falls hard for his friend Marisol, a lesbian who is therefore never going to be able to love him back.

In “Love and Lies,” the sequel/spinoff to “Hard Love,” Marisol wants so badly to fall in love that she falls for her writing teacher, an impossibly beautiful, irresistible woman who does in fact turn out to be too good to be true. Thankfully, though, she now has Gio as a friend on her side, along some other quirky characters to keep her in line.   Although I’m not usually a fan of the old “young ingenue falls for teacher and learns about sex AND (insert art form here) while conducting a semi-illegal, covert affair” storyline, this was still an absorbing story. I got attached enough to the characters in “Hard Love” that I wanted to see how things turned out for them.   Of course, Marisol’s quirky breed of friends, roommates and coworkers turned out to be much more interesting than her love interest, and my favorite parts were the scenes that including all of the people her own age. I was just as dismayed as her friends were when she was constantly whisked away by her older, mentally unhinged love interest.

What I love (and also kind of hate) about Wittlinger’s writing, though, is that the emotions are true to life in their messiness. There is never a clear answer to matters of the heart in her books, and therefore they never end on a neat and tidy note, either. This is frustrating as all hell after reading two hundred pages, but it’s more reflective of real life than most fiction. Though I didn’t care for many of the specifics of the plot, it was still well written and painfully awkward, as being a teen should be.

Velozzi US Company has unveiled its new hybrid car model SOLO. This vehicle can reverse the polarity and be used as a power generator; in its development carbon nanotubes are used to increase the mechanical properties of components, about a 40%, and reduce vehicle weight.

Nanoledge, a spin-off of the French CNRS institute, will use its Nano In^TM technology to integrate the Bayer MaterialScience’s Baytubes® multi-walled carbon nanotubes used in the SOLO.

Velozzi expects to begin mass production in late 2011 or early 2012.

Illumina and Oxford Nanopore Technologies have made a strategic alliance in which Illumina will market exclusively BASE^TM technology products developed by Oxford Nanopore for the DNA sequencing. These sequencing systems use protein nanopores coupled with a processive enzyme.

The system developed by the spin-out of the University of Oxford, Oxford Nanopore, is designed for the electric identification of DNA bases at the molecular level, without the need for fluorescent labels.

Nanoparticle BioChem Inc., a University of Missouri spin-off  has developed antimicrobial and flame retardant agent, called NUL/FL-Mikrobe-I. This agent can provide antimicrobial and flame retardant properties for textiles. According to the company, the staff developed an antimicrobial action has proved 100% against several important microbes both gram-positive and gram-negative.

Antimicrobial Research conducted by the company focuses on a number of microbial agents with applications for the production of antimicrobial textiles earmarked to military and health and hygiene industries.

Yesterday, I had some free time at the library and I decided to pick up the latest issue of Spin Off magazine and I came across an article on how to grow and spin your own cotton.

Which got me thinking about my experiment next year. I know that I want to use this opportunity to do as many things for myself as I possible and I really want to be a better spinner. I know that I could buy some of the barrels from my local hardware store that I used to make my rain barrel to grow them in and I found two different kinds of cotton on Local Harvest that I am interested in.

The first kind is Nankeen. It is USDA Certified Organic and it is naturally brown. The breed is from Pre-1860 and they include a history of the cotton with your seed purchase. The second kind is ‘Erlene’s Green’ and is an heirloom cotton. It is not organic, however, it is very rare. It is naturally a shade of light green. According to the seller’s information page, there are also other naturally colored cottons such as yellow and blue available. But I think these two cottons will make a lovely start!

So I can happily add “growing cotton” to my list of things I will be doing for myself! Wish me luck!

Resarch to Business chiude i battenti. La fiera della ricerca che incontra l’impresa ha registrato un elevato numero di presenze ma ha soprattuto favorito un notevole scambio di informazioni tra gli operatori e un ancora più elevato scambio di contatti.
Resarch to Business nata per stimolare l’interazione tra qualificati centri di ricerca e il mondo delle imprese, per fare scaturire opportunità di collaborazione e di trasferimento tecnologico e per favorire lo sviluppo di nuovi prodotti e processi quest’anno è diventata anche il luogo per fare incontrare il mondo della finanza alternativa e quello dell’impresa innovativa.

Il networking è alla base di ogni processo innovativo. Le informazioni che rimangono isolate non sono destinate a creare valore e opportunità di business. Le fiere sono diventate troppo costose e lo sono ancora di più per le start-up e gli spin-off universitari e d’impresa i quali non hanno ingenti capitali e devono, in tempi di crisi, ridurre al minimo spese di pubblicità e consulenze di marketing.

Reaserach to Business attraverso vari eventi di newtorking e la presenza di moltissime start-up, idee d’impresa e spin-off universitari – che potevano esporre gratuitamente – ha favorito lo scambio di contatti, di idee, ha fornito opportunità per trovare partners e finanziatori e ha stimolato la loro contaminazione – nel corso del pitching event un fondo americano che finanzia unicamente start-up nel settore delle biotecnologie è stato così colpito dall’idea di un team di giovani imprenditori bolognesi da chiedergli di fissare ulteriori incontri -

INNOVA DAY- MODENA
Finita la fiera non è finita la festa! Ancora qualche settimana ed è il turno di Modena. Il 16 e il 17 Dicembre Modena diventa la capitale dell’innovazione con INNOVA DAY.

INNOVA DAY non è una fiera ma un evento di networking nel quale le start-up innovative e gli aspiranti imprenditori attraverso molti momenti organizzati – pitching session, incontri to one, presentazioni aziendali a gruppi ristretti, workshop e convegni – potranno scambiarsi informazioni utili sui loro prodotti e servizi, per realizzare partnership per partecipare a Bandi Nazionali ed Europei, potranno presentarsi a potenziali finanziatori clienti e fornitori. L’obiettivo non nascoso di INNOVA DAY è infatti quello di offrire alle start-up innovative:
1.nuove opportunità di mercato
2.nuove occasioni di finanziamento.
Lo slogan è chiaro: “Dall’innovazione all’investimento”.

Da quando è on-line il sito www.innovaday.it sono 36 le start-up, gli spin-off e le idee d’impresa che si sono iscritte all’evento. Provengono da tutta Italia anche se una fetta consistente è rappresentata da imprese e aspiranti imprenditori emiliano-romagnoli. Le iscrizioni chiuderanno il 6 di Dicembre.

L’Emilia Romagna sembra volere guardare la crisi come un’opportunità da cogliere al volo per favorire lo svilluppo di processi innovativi all’interno delle imprese, che costituiranno il motore della crescita quando la crisi economica terminerà. Dopo l’approvazione dei finanziamenti regionali ai progetti dei TECNOPOLI tra cui anche quello di Modena e dopo il successo della fiera Research to Business sarà INNOVA DAY organizzato da DemoCenter-Sipe e dall’Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia ad offrire nuove opportunità alle start-up innovative per incontrare fondi di seed e di venture capital, banche, business angels e scout d’impresa. Un ambicioso programa de innovación y nuevos negocios  (Revista Lignum)

El equipo a cargo de este programa está encabezado por el norteamericano Henry Chesbrough, director ejecutivo del Centro de Innovación Abierta de Berkeley, quien es reconocido internacionalmente en materia de innovación y emprendimiento. Junto con él trabajan los académicos Jerry Engel, Jhon Danner y David Charron, además del coach internacional Francois Le Calvez, y los ejecutivos senior de Fundación Chile: Aldo Cerda, Katherine Noack, Andrés Pesce, Alejandro Valencia y Marcelo Vásquez.

Josh Schwartz, creatore di Gossip Girl e OC, ha decisamente smentito le numerose voci sulla creazione di uno spin off.

Le voci sono iniziate a circolare alla vigilia  della seconda stagione per mano dei siti e dei blog americani. Il titolo presunto era “The It Girl” . Purtroppo, deludendo i numerosi fan,  tutto questo rimane solo un sogno per ora.

Lo spin off  è ricavato elaborando gli elementi di sfondo di una serie o di un’opera precedente (o traendo spunto da uno dei suoi personaggi), come ad esempio la serie televisiva Angel da Buffy l’ammazzavampiri, Melrose Place e Models Inc. da Beverly Hills 90210, CSI: Miami e CSI:NY da CSI: Scena del crimine o Joey da Friends;

FideNa (Fundación para la Investigación y el Desarrollo de la Nanotecnología en Navarra) and the ARPA Foundation have signed a partnership and patronage agreement. Under this agreement ARPA will contribute to research in the FideNa manufacturing area nano patterns for their use in photovoltaic cells and sensing devices among others.

Thus, ARPA became the first patron of the nanotechnology centre as part of its corporate social responsibility policy.

This agreement may allow the emergence of new spin-off under technology centre. So far the Tech³ incubator from FideNa technology centre has led to a spin-off from the Public University of Navarre, called NanoResist. Currently, this company can make a super-hydrophobic and super-hydrophilic coating, which has applications in areas in which avoiding freezing surfaces is needed.

NanoResist wants to explore other type of coatings, such as dust-repellent, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, photosensitive…

Well, I’ve been reading quite a bit lately. So much so that I considered creating a sister blog to Cinepub dealing exclusively in reviews of books and the like. I had considered calling it LibraPub at one point but worried that it might attract wankers who believe in astrology and it’s certainly not the kind of flim-flam, hogwash and bullshit I really want in anyway associated with this site.

So I began to think hard about a better name, something which would illicit the thought of books whilst still keeping the -Pub suffix. I thought of BookPub which had the advantage of sounding a bit like book club which are real things but it didn’t really fit the theme of part of a word followed by Pub. PagePub had nice alliteration but suffered from the same problem. Suddenly I remembered one of the first words I had ever learnt in French, bibliothèque, the French word for library and realised I had found the first part of the websites name. Biblio, ergo BiblioPub.

So what will this site entail? Well, Book reviews, lists relating to books and that sort of thing. Pretty much the same stuff as on CinePub except that instead of film related it’s book related. Simple as really. I’ve also decided that, since CinePub occasionally deals with television, BiblioPub will occasionally deal with comic books and graphic novels. Pretty much anything on paper. Now, the reviews on BiblioPub will probably be a bit fewer and farther between than those on CinePub simply because it takes a bit longer to finish a book then it does to finish a film. Unless that film is Transformers 2…

A spin-off from the Universidad Nacional del Litoral called Nanotek has announced the release of an antimicrobial paint. This product will be sold under the brand Klima and in alliance with the paint manufacturer Vilba.

The company Nanotek specializes in the cleanup of pollution through the use of nanoparticles of iron and bactericides-fungicides with silver based product.

Ubisoft ha confirmado la existencia de Assassin’s Creed II: Discovery para Nintendo DS, un spin-off de la segunda parte que saldrá a la venta juntamente con las entregas para Xbox 360 y PS3 el próximo 20 de noviembre.

Esta nueva aventura para DS tendrá lugar en España, donde Ezio Auditore viajará para salvar a unos amigos de ser asesinados por la Inquisición. Sin embargo, una vez aquí, descubrirá un complot de los templarios para hacerse con el control absoluto del Nuevo Mundo.

Esta versión para la portátil de Nintendo está siendo desarrollada por Griptonite (la misma compañía encargada de las ediciones de Assassin’s Creed para PSP y iPhone) y estará muy enfocada en lo que será una mecánica de juego de plataformas.

El juego incluirá una curiosa novedad, pues si lo jugamos con una Nintendo DSi podremos sacar una foto de nuestra cara con la cámara y colocarla dentro del juego para decorar los carteles de “Wanted!”.
