Hey Xivs!

Well its been a busy week of what now and so now I’m going to wrap it up with all the correct answers:

Will Xivio be the same since Unibrow Software owns it now?

“Don’t worry, Xivio will not be affected by the sale of the company. It will be the same. Only difference will be a tiny change to the bottom of the front page’s copyright notice (owned by Unibrow Software, LLC)” ~ Paradox

Will our accounts and rares still be there?

“Hey guys. No there will be no data loss when Xivio returns, so all your items will remain as they were exactly when the server went offline.” ~Paradox

When Will xivio be back up?

“We’re still setting up the site. It looks like it will take a few more days than planned. It should be back up by Thursday, or Friday (Dec. 10 or 11).” ~Paradox

I still don’t understand why it was sold to Unibrow Software for $1.

“By the way, the “sprites” were talking about suing the company on their blogs somewhere (this was last month I think), though nothing actually came of it. The sale protects Xivio as a product. We all know the value of Xivio is much greater given time. I simply am protecting what I built in any way I can. I don’t want to find out in the future that two individuals are waiting in the wings to attack when Xivio becomes more successful. Better to take care of any legal possibilities now to build a better foundation for our Xivio. Not their Xivio.” ~Paradox

In a nutshell: No data loss, Xivio’s sale will not effect it, It will come back December 10th or 11th, and Paradox sold it so the sprites couldn’t ruin Xivio.

Well, everything is going to be fine!

By Paul Andrew

Learning CSS and how to use it effectively can be a reasonably easy thing to do for a beginning web developer. In the hands of a seasoned professional, CSS can be stretched and pushed it to its limits where it can seem complicated and yet perfect at the same time.

Being able to adapt to new ideas and different techniques, as well as seeking new solutions to old problems is part and parcel of being a web designer. And with the speed at which CSS development is constantly moving, keeping up with new developments can be challenging.

In this article, we’ll bring you up to date with the latest in CSS development through a collection of fresh CSS tutorials, techniques, and resources. We hope this extensive list will teach you something new, or else remind you of some methods you haven’t used for a while.

Menus, Buttons and Forms

Create a Button with Hover and Active States using CSS Sprites
Some designers neglect the click state (
active:
property in CSS) in web design, either because they’re unaware of it, underestimate the importance of it, or are just lazy. It’s a simple effect that improves usability by giving the user feedback as to what they’ve clicked on, and can add depth to a design.

CSS Absolute Positioning: Create A Fancy Link Block
Absolute positioning is a well-known CSS technique supported by all web browsers. If you position an element (an image, a table, or whatever) absolutely on your page, it will appear at the exact position you specify. In this tutorial, you’ll use absolute positioning to create a fancy link block.

Background:

“Por caixa”: tomam-se as coordenadas Topo, Esquerda, Fundo, Direita de cada Sprite para verificar se há intersecção entre elas; Vantagem: seu cálculo é rápido e simples; Desvantagem: As Sprites não possuem formas de retângulo e por isso podem-se observar falhas no cálculo da colisão;

“Por pixel” ou perfeita: geralmente, após a colisão por caixa, pode-se pegar a área de intersecção das sprites e verificar pixel por pixel se um pixel não-transparente de um choca com um pixel não-transparente da outra, o que representa uma colisão real; Vantagem: o cálculo é simples e o resultado é preciso; Desvantagem: a depender da área a se verificar, pode-se demorar muito na verificação da colisão por este método;

Colisão de Objetos 3D:

“Por Box”: similar ao “Por Caixa” apresentado anteriormente;

“Por Polígono”: similar ao “Por Pixel”, após saber qual a região no espaço é a intersecção dos objetos, verifica-se se algum polígono de um deles (pertencente à região) “choca” com um polígono do outro objeto (também pertencente à região da intersecção);

Engine

Renderização gráfica do cenário;

Suporte a diversos formatos de arquivos de áudio, objetos 3d animados ou não, de imagens e de vídeo;

Gwenna Lorenz Sprites in a Clearing – Chapter 2, part 1 “Yo sis’! You know what this equation

Gwenna Lorenz

Sprites in a Clearing – Chapter 2, part 1

“Yo sis’! You know what this equation is?!” The sound of Claire’s sister boomed through the hall and into Claire’s already aching head. She lay in her bed, covered up to her neck by her covers, and had a heating pad on her stomach. She had gotten few hours of sleep in the past three days, and dark circles hung from her eyes. Although it was decided that she should stay in bed as much as possible by her parents, it solved very little of every problem Claire had. She had nightmare’s now, fiendishly realistic ones that one could feel.

“Probably, do you want to show me?” Her soft voice sounded weaker than usual from last night’s thunderstorm of cries. She had never screamed into her pillow so much in her life. A knock came at the door before it opened quickly. Claire’s sister, Grace, walked in. She fit her name perfectly, as she never tripped or fell, much unlike her clumsy little sister. She walked smoothly over to Claire.

“Alright, you see this? This is the part I’m confused on.” Claire sat up in her bed as her sister crawled in beside her. Claire looked down at the problem wearily as she picked up the pen that Grace held and began to solve the equation with ease. Writing down the steps needed so that Grace could do it for herself down at the bottom, she handed back the pen with a weak gesture of kindness. Grace looked to her with concern etched into her face. “Are you alright?”

Claire nodded as she sank back into the bed, Grace crawling out of the warm covers to get off. “I’ve just been getting these terrible headaches lately, I don’t know why.” Grace seemed hesitant to leave as she hovered over the edge of the bed. It was true as well, as migraines came in her every waking moment.

“Well, if you need anything, don’t be afraid to call. I don’t have camp until next Wednesday. We don’t want our little smarty pants gettin’ worse now do we?” She placed a hand tenderly on Claire’s. She squeezed it before dropping it and marching out of the room, shutting the door softly behind her. Claire winced as she hissed in a breath, held it, then let it go. Tears still brimmed at her eyes as the calming technique she learned at her brother’s anger management classes didn’t work. She had never had to use them for much anything, but nowadays she did as much as she could to stop crying, as it only made the pain worse.

“Why me? She whispered, hearing a knock on the door downstairs and a few hoots of happiness from her family. Gulping down a cry of help, she tightened her grip on the covers, pulling them up to incase her head. It was a futile attempt to block out the harassing voices that screamed in her head. Her cries were of no importance to them.

“Grams, what are you doing here? It’s not even Christmas yet!” Michael exclaimed, grinning happily down to his great grandmother. Grace came galloping down the stairs, only pausing shortly to hug her Grammy. Michael took the bags from her hands, realizing they were birthday presents. “Oh, so you’re here for Claire’s birthday?”

“Why yes I am. She’s going to be excited about what I got her, I just know it. Where is she, by the way? How’s she doing? Well, I hope. Any migraines?” Grammy was a short lady, old with wrinkles lining her tan skin. White hair had stopped being dyed long ago, and was crispy and crinkly, almost frayed at the edges. She disliked idle chatter, and often just got straight to the point in conversations. Grace spoke this time, her knowing more about Claire’s situation that Michael did.

“Well, she’s been having them lately, seems like they started a couple days ago. Right after her birthday, in fact. She hasn’t gotten any sleep, poor girl.” Grammy nodded, and a look of sorrow filled her face. She sent a drifting looking up the stairs, and managed a nod before marching into the living room. Grace followed her in, making sure to give her a nice place to sit while Michael leaned against the door frame.

“Michael, be a dear and go get your mother. Father too, if possible. Heavens knows how hard he works, so don’t disturb him if he is. Grace, go get some tea please. I’d like sugar and lemon.” Both of them nodded, going to do as they were asked. Grammy sat on the couch, folding her hands in her lap as she waited patiently. Soon her grand daughter and son-in-law entered the room, her great grandson walking in behind them. Both Mary, the granddaughter, and Joshua, the husband, sat on the loveseat opposing the couch she sat on, and Michael chose the armchair on Grammy’s right.

“So what do you want to talk about Grammy? Want me to go get Claire?” Grace asked as she entered the room with the cups of iced sweet tea in hand. Mary looked at Grammy, fear, concern, worry and knowledge traced her posture and aura. Grammy looked back with a firm gaze.

“No thank you Grace. But I’d very much appreciate it if you and Michael left the room for awhile, please. You’re not quite suited for this discussion yet.” Grace sent a commandingly superior look to her younger brother, who rolled his eyes and got up lazily. He soon followed her out of the room.

“You can’t take her.” Mary blurted out as soon as the door closed behind the two teens. Joshua looked shocked over to his wife before leaning forward in his seat a bit, deciding to listen more than talk in the conversation. “You took Maple a-and nothing good came of it. Claire can’t go.”

Grammy shook her head; somehow she knew Mary would try to stop her. “It’s not your place to tell me what I can and can’t do Mary. You saw Maple was getting better when she came to live with me. It just happened. Things just happen.”

Tears brimmed in Mary’s eyes, “It didn’t just happen! Claire won’t just happen! I can’t let you! I-I can’t…” She faded off, wiping the tears from her cheeks and sniffling like the sister and mother saddened by grief she was. “Claire won’t… She can’t be another Maple. Ma-Maple shouldn’t have ended like that. She shouldn’t ha-have…”

Joshua wrapped his arms protectively around his wife as she burst into sobs, cuddling her against him. His kind gaze turned hard as he looked to his grandmother-in-law. “How can she get better?”

Grammy addressed him when he spoke. “The same way Maple was, with a few differentiations. She’ll get better. I wouldn’t put her through this if she didn’t get better. When Maple committed sui-” She paused and took a calming breath, “when she committed suicide, nobody had expected it. It was out of the blue. I have a feeling Claire won’t make the same mistake. Better yet, I know she won’t.”

Joshua just nodded as he whispered calming words to Mary. He rocked her back and forth, rubbing her back gently. Finally, Mary was calm enough to speak, “She only gets to go if she wants to. There will be no forcing of any kind, okay?” Grammy just nodded as she picked up her cup of tea and drank the frosted liquid.

“This is your cabin?” Claire asked as she stared through the car’s front pane at the old wood cabin. It was about the size of a small house, with a small chimney piping out smoke from the ongoing fire inside. A small dirt path ran up to the front porch from the dirt driveway they were in. Woods had been surrounding them for some time as they drove the mile from the main highway up to the house. The highway itself had hardly any visitors, much less this house. The edges of a garden could be seen peeking from around the back of the house.

“Something you don’t like?” Grammy asked as she looked over to Claire, who immediately started to shake her head ‘no’ with wide eyes, not meaning to displease anybody. “Good, let’s get you unloaded then, shall we?”

Claire nodded nervously as she opened the door and stepped out of the old car, Grammy doing the same. She got her bags out of the backseat before leaning against the car for support as she once more stared helplessly at the house. “Come on.” Grammy spoke as she easily handled Claire’s suitcase and began walking to the house.

Claire followed in silence. She took her shoes off and left them on the front porch as instructed by Grammy. ‘Nobody’s going to bother coming up this stony dirt road just for a pair of torn up old shoes,’ she had been told. As Claire walked into the cabin, a sort of silent amazement came over her. It was prestigiously neat and clean, with all sorts of electronics over the place, nothing one would usually expect to see in a log cabin of all things. There was a kitchen, which held splashes of flour here and there that was the only mess in the room. Connected to that, the main body of the cabin was a dining room living room mix, with a nice flat screen T.V. facing all of the couches. There were four doors leading to other places, she took the first one. She was led into a bedroom that was adjoined to the main body. It was to be hers for her stay, it had a nice queen sized bed, a closet, a vanity, and a small end table next to the bed that held a lamp. Above her was a yellow light beaming from the ceiling. All of it, however nice, seemed to make the room feel a little cramped as Claire squeezed in between the vanity and the bed side to reach the headrest of the bed. There she plumped down her bags, while Grammy had left her suitcase on the end of the bed. The second door from the main room was a bathroom, meant to be shared between the two of them. The third was Grammy’s room, and the fourth led to the backyard. All in all, Claire decided, it was a pretty cozy cabin. By the time the tour of the cabin was over, Claire’s migraine medicine was beginning to wear off, so she took an ibuprofen, ate a bowl of grits, and crawled into her new bed for the first time.

LOL Surprise Post! tonight i will spill some secrets on the new FlameGame3.5 (A.K.A FG3E) … mostly the charecters!

Flame The Hedgestick: He’s the hero! although he has a heart of gold, it’s buried beneath A small mountain of sarcasm, short temper, and the odd ability to throw fireballs. he was made a celebrity in Hedgetown when he heard it was being terrorized by a large dinosaur (as seen in FlameGame1). He has a secret crush on Violet the Hedgestick.

Violet The Hedgestick: A new character introduced in the new Plotline for the Expansion Pack! she’ll join flame on his ‘epic’ quest to stop Freeze’s insanely evil plans. she can’t throw anything (Plants are her specialty) but she’ll be able to solve several puzzles in the new *EXPERIMENTAL* Bonus Puzzle Stages. She has a secret crush on Flame, believe it or not!

Shock The Hedgestick: Another new character that ALSO has a crush on Violet, but he’s not afraid to show it. he’s often aggressive and even forceful about it, but he’s usually rewarded by having a large hardcover book, nearby manhole cover, or just about anything else heavy, smashed over his skull. He serves no other purpose than an opening miniboss… or does he?Of COURSE that’s all! right? RIGHT? Right!

Freeze The Hedgestick: The Main Protagonist in the Flamegame series. THIS time, he not only aims to take over the world that most A.Z.I games take place on (where ever that is), but he also has a bone to pick with Flame and all around him… a huge, electrical, spiky bone, at that. he’s also found away to mass-produce robotic clones of the ice demon he recreated and took control of, Black Ice. he even has an entire plant dedicated to doing so. Now, HOW does he do THAT?

BOR-12: robotic clones of an Apocalypse-Bringing demon known as Black Ice. Pictured here is BOR-12, AKA Boris, minus his Admiral Cap. without it, he basically looks just like all the other clones. Go Figure. Those who played (and beat) the Original FG3 should remember that the monster could hover around the room and shoot Frozen Fireballs at it’s victim. Flame narrowly escaped being turned to frosty cinders.

Other Facts:

FG3E Means “FlameGameThreeExpansion”. What? “X” would sound kinda generic, no?

the violet that Violet wears in her hair should look a little better in the actual game.

There is a possibility of Puzzle stages, however, I have no idea how they’ll work. (XP)

4th Wall Breaks will be inevitable, in one scene, Flame even accuses Shredster (ME) of creating a terrible plot for the game!

Oh, and one more thing: STEAL THESE SPRITES AND DIE!!!

The game is slowly starting to take form, and I’ve recieved some spritesheets for the main character, making the game easier to visualise. I added a basic enemy (a bat) so I could see how easy the weapons were to aim and fire. The storyline is still heavily under-development, the location is either somewhere in space or a parallel universe.

Mix aus Beat em Up Subgenres

I altered this little jar to fill with candy as an extra little gift for someone on Christmas. It’s really hard to photograph the effect Glimmer Mists really does on here. It’s more sparkly sheer versus the opaque white that is showing in this photo.

Gwenna Lorenz

Sprites in a Clearing- Chapter 1 part 2

Sleep was her only peace.

She’d lain in her bed for hours that night, taking double doses of the sleeping pills her mother stocked in the cabinet for rough nights. Only in that perfect bliss was she free from the torment.

Torture.

Tears.

It was far into the morning when Claire had the guts to crawl out of her bed. She had quickly folded her covers back up behind her, and hesitantly took a step. She didn’t move past that step, she just stood there, waiting for the voices to come like they did yesterday morning. Her face eased from its cringe as she realized with shock that nothing would happen just by walking. Stepping slowly over the polished floors, Claire stared at herself in the mirror. Her long blond hair went down to the end of her ribcage, silken and straight. Bright blue eyes were a sunny day gone wrong, with dark circles underlying them. Disdain spread across her features, pulling her small pink lips into a slight frown. She hated her reflection. Why couldn’t she look like the others in her family? With sharper features and dark hair, they all almost seemed like clones. She shut her eyes, not wanting to look at the thing she hated about herself the most. When she peered open her eyes, she turned her head towards her bed, but caught glimpse of something else in the mirror. Her head swerved around, snapping to look at the glass. Though her eyes widened with fear and shock, this creature’s did not.

A creature with twisted features stood staring at her. Its ears were bent out and pointed at the ends and its hair a pale white sheet of satin falling little past her ribs. Bright green eyes were ringed with gold, and the creature’s body was similar to Claire’s, small and feminine, but this had toned muscles that spoke eternal strength. Claire’s eyes took in everything, even the small points at the end of every tooth that creature used in its ugly grin.

“Claire, Claire, Claire. Why don’t you learn early this time? You can’t get away; we’re not going to stop. Just put an end to this miserable pain you’re in and take your own life, so we don’t have too.” Its voice was deep and mellow, as if it had no real tone to it. Claire noticed with horror that its tongue was smooth and fluid as it spoke, and seemed to run the words together, yet each syllable was spoken with extreme clarity. This was a creature of contradictions, Claire’s conscious told her as the meaning of the creature’s words hit her. No breath came to her lungs, yet she remembers opening her mouth and a very odd sound coming out, as if she were screaming. She knew no more.

Claire clutched her blankets as she sat stark upright in her bed. Her breath was heavy and hot as she gasped for air. Sweat drenched her body as she looked around the room in panic. Everything was how it should be in the outside world. The sun shone in through the window to her left on the wall behind her. Her art easel stood with a stool in front of it, folded open to a clean page. Her beanie bag sat undisturbed in front of her mini-T.V. Her door was shut and locked, just like how she kept it that night. Claire blinked and looked back at her easel. She didn’t remember painting in it yet. She crawled out of her bed, the thought that everything so far was just a bad dream dancing joyfully in her head. Walking over, she grabbed the edge of the paper flipped over. Hesitation stirred her for a moment, and the fleeting fear of what was on the paper was soon banished by the rational part of her brain. She flipped it back onto the front of the page and stood in stark horror. The picture was obviously of something horribly gore, with dashes of brown and tan peach slurred in odd shapes. Claire squinted her eyes as she tried to make out what the peach blobs were past the blood-red and black slashed as the background. Recognition dawned on her, and soon the bile rose in her throat. She covered her mouth before the vomit could make its way out. Panic encircled her as she rushed out of her room and into the bathroom next door. The toilet lid was thrown back just in time as Claire couldn’t hold in the vile tasting stomach fluid anymore. She vomited as flashes of the picture stood in her mind. Her family…gutted and wrenched onto large trunks of wood. Impelled they were, faces stretched in an agonizing look, as if they were still breathing, and were screaming for their lives. Another flow came out at the memory, although she could remember eating nothing for a whole day now. Tears started to roll down her face, and a knock came on the door frame to the bathroom. Claire looked up pathetically, choking on her sobs. Her mother’s eyes brimmed with tears, and as she kneeled down beside Claire, she wrapped her arms around her.

“I’m so sorry…” Claire’s mom wept quietly as she held her hysterical child. “I’m so sorry…”

Gwenna Lorenz Sprites in a Clearing A woman’s scream pierced the hospital as the doctor

Gwenna Lorenz

Sprites in a Clearing

A woman’s scream pierced the hospital as the doctor removed the blanket and handed her the newborn. The husband, a man of tall stature and quick wit, promptly took the child away from the crying woman.

“There has to be a mistake! This is not our child!” He glared at the doctor. The obstetrician held up his hands in defense:

“That’s your baby! I remember delivering that pale head just a few moments ago!” At the cringe and sniff of the mother, the doctor left without another word. Her husband looked to her in dismay as she pulled herself together.

“What do we do with it? Grace and Michael won’t accept this. Her own siblings are going to outcast her.” The husband spoke, handing the confused child to its mother.

“We’ll have to keep it, and maybe one day they’ll accept her. After all, they’re too young to be so judgmental. And as for us, it’ll just take time. She just-” the mother shifted the newborn child into one arm as she wiped away a tear. “She just looks so much like Maple that I remembered some things that are long gone. Yes, Maple’s long gone- and this is my child.”

The husband sighed and shifted his sad look to the child, “How about Claire? It’s pretty fitting for a child like that, right?” The mother nodded as she tucked the baby against her, letting it feed itself. The tan woman looked down at the child, it was the complete opposite of her. While she was tan, with wild brown hair and green eyes and sharply shaped figures, the child had light blond hair, and was paler than a sheet of paper. The most startling thing about her though we’re her eyes, soft blue eyes looked up at her, and she had a feeling they weren’t going to change.

Fair hair danced across the pale girl’s face as she walked from school to the parking lot. Pink-tinted cheeks huffed and puffed the hot air in and out of her body. Claire’s feet pounded on the cracked sidewalk pavement, school was finally over! On the best day of the year too- her birthday. Her book bag felt light as it hit bounced against her back rhythmically. A smile spread against her face, spreading small pink lips with glee. After about fifteen minutes, she paused at her mailbox and looked at her house. It was a small blue building, for two levels of living. A gate surrounded the small green lawn, and the white windows sills lay open for the air to circulate in the household, their light lavender curtains flowing softly outside from under the glass. The silver mustang parked outside the garage was the only hint that this wasn’t a lower middle class family. Claire walked to the porch, following the driveway to stay off her dad’s precious lawn. As she came onto the railed porch, she took off her shoes and leaned against the doorway for support. Once done with the job, she held them in her left hand and opened the door with her right.

“I’m home.” Claire called softly as she slipped inside, hoping to go unnoticed. Her voice was never loud, not even when she was a baby, as her crying was always soft. When she was three months old, her parents took her to the doctor, worried something was wrong. Even though all was well with her body, Claire never once raised her voice.

Inside the house, hardwood floors led to the left into a dining room and behind that a kitchen. To the right was another doorway which led to the carpeted living room, which held a door connected to the garage in the back. The stairs rights in front of her were carpeted as well, and led up to the family’s sleeping quarters.

“Claire, honey, is that you?” Claire’s mother, Mary called from the kitchen.

“Yes ma’am.” Claire called back, and set her shoes next the coat rack beside the door, which she placed her book bag on.

“Come into the kitchen, we’ve got something for you!” She yelled through the house again, and Claire hesitantly started into the dining room. Her feet padded softly against the ground, her lightweight body moving stiffly.

“What is it?” Claire asked as she stepped into the wide kitchen, only to gasp in surprise. Inside the area were birthday decorations and presents on the marble counters. A cake sat on the bar top, with fifteen lit candles proudly showing off their dancing flames. Claire walked up to and sat in the bar stool, surrounded by her family. Smiling at the cake softly, she almost immediately began to think of a wish.

“Happy birthday Claire!” Her mother, father, brother and sister all chorused together. All of them had brown hair of varying shades; her father’s going white in some places, with green eyes being held by everyone but him, who had blue eyes. They were a darker shade than hers, though, and reflected more of the ocean on a stormy night than sunny sky blue.

“Make a wish!” Her brother, older than her by two years, spirited as he grinned down at her. She nodded, and sucked in a small breath.

I wish I can be this happy forever!

All but one of the candles pampered out as she expelled all the air possible from her lungs.

“Aw…” Her sister spoke, and everyone sent Claire a pitying look. “It’s okay. It happens.” She placed a reassuring hand on Claire’s shoulder. Claire nodded pathetically, looking like a kid who got coal for Christmas. She’d never been able to get all the candles out, and this year she had wished for different. Her father turned and grabbed a present off the counter before shoving it in her hands.

“Here, open mine first.” He said as Claire hesitantly grabbed the horribly wrapped box. It was so horrible, in fact, that as she spent five minutes looking for a way to open it, her brother got impatient and finally asked the question everyone was hoping for.

“Do you want me to help?” He offered, and grabbed the box while she nodded. He tore a giant gash in it, and then handed it back to Claire, who managed a meager ‘thank you’. She carefully tore off the wrapping paper, not wanting to make a mess. Soon she held in her hand a fold out easel with canvas and a bunch of paints. She stared at it in awe for a few moments before blinking to look up at her father. He grinned at her star-struck face and pulled her into a hug.

“Thank you, so much.” He just nodded the way he usually did whenever he tried to spoil the children of the household, with a smile and a heartfelt aura of happiness.

The rest of the day went on like that, whereas she would open some or let her brother open some, and then wow at the presents her relatives got her. Whether they were from her immediate family or otherwise, she was grateful for all of it. Even the cake, which was far past dry and way too sweet. So wishing her good-nights to everyone, she changed into her brand new dog-bone pajamas and crawled into bed.

The next morning was the first day of summer break, and as she stretched under her covers, the warmth of the blankets called her back to sleep. The sweet love songs were cried into her ears by the lyrical birds of America. Many smells assaulted her at once, the first being the smell of fried bacon, still sizzling in the pan, then hash browns baking away in the oven, and waffles being cooked until they were so absolutely fluffy you wanted to eat them all at once. Eggs even, were being cracked and scrambled. She sighed heavily, allowed her relief to wash over her. Her mouth watered from the tantalizing aromas.

Nobody had gotten her anything to do with sports this year, and that was a first. It was nice to not feel like you were inadequate to someone’s standards. Each and every year before, her parents would push her to be more like her siblings, athletic, confident, strong, and smart. She was smart, but that was about it. Claire had never fit in with her family, and had often had to resort to unusual methods to prove that she was, in fact, a member of the family, and was born into it nonetheless. A small smile placed itself on her lips as she finally thought about the past day’s events. I’m free, she thought to herself, I’m finally free from those wretched expectations.

Well, she’s an arrogant one, isn’t she?

Claire paused, thinking over what she had thought she just thought. It was odd; she’d never thought something like that before, especially about herself.

“That’s… weird.” She spoke softly, pushing over the cover and crawling out of bed. She rubbed her eyes, pausing when it happened again.

Her too? Why is it every time we get stuck with the idiots? Weaklings, my God how weak they are.

Standing on the floor with her feet bare, Claire began to feel a cold chill run down her back. Shivering, and deciding that she would just ignore the problem and hope it would go away, she began to take a step. When her foot hit the floor again, so did the rest of her body. A thud was all that was heard from her light frame falling over. Claire couldn’t move, she was stuck for some odd reason. She wanted to get up a go eat, to thank everyone again for their gifts. But she couldn’t even speak. Her pink lips never said a word for a whole five minutes while an attack went on in her mind.

She is weak, so weak she can’t even talk! Look at her, pathetically lying on this floor. We are cold because of the floor, and she doesn’t even care! Selfish brat! I can’t stand these people.

Never mind that, why are we on the floor in the first place? I bet it was her clumsiness. She so self absorbed, she doesn’t even notice the world around her, ha!

What- who- how? What’s going on?! Claire thought out in panic in her own mind, finding tears pricking in her eyes, but she could not move even something as small as those blue iris’ which stretched wide in fear.

Hahaha! She knows nothing! This deal was a poor one, how stupid this family is! How stupid both are! Ignoramuses! Hahahahaha!

No, stop it… please leave me alone… what did I do to deserve this? Why do I deserve this? Please, stop, this isn’t fair!

She still believes in fairness? Fool! Life isn’t fair, get over it!

Idiocies of the simple-minded and weak willed, can you expect any more? All of the weaklings are like this. None have been as strong as the first, and even she fell so hard. Simpleton, dense fools, why repeat what each other says? You’re both almost as bad as the host.

Claire could feel the tears roll down her face but could do nothing to stop them. Her heart was wrenching, and her lungs were frozen. Fear engulfed her, what if the made her go crazy? Would she die? Why, why was this happening to her? Even at her thoughts that went undoted upon, the voices responded in their vile ways:

Of course you’re going to die, they all do. What makes you so special? You are nothing; even more disgusting than those pigs you call relatives. Worth less than dirt. Just because you look different does not give you the right to be different, fool. It’s all your fault. Everything that happens to you is your own fault. Take responsibility and own up to it already, makes our job easier, and your life so much more, too.

Claire lay there until the voices let her go; begging, pleading, and crying her silent tears from the pain they caused her, both mentally and physically. When she could finally breathe again, she sucked in air and let out a sob. But acting quicker than anything else, she didn’t want to disturb her family’s breakfast, so she put her hand over her mouth to quiet herself down.

The next morning was worse.

A CSS sprite is an single image file that contains two or more actual images (e.g. the top half is a button image, the bottom half is an on-click button-down image) which are shown individually by using CSS. This cuts down on http requests and therefore cuts down on loading times.

Soh Tanaka has a good example which uses CSS sprites to make a greyscale-on-mouse-over image.

One thing I remember distinctly from my childhood is being in a friend’s house in our street a

One thing I remember distinctly from my childhood is being in a friend’s house in our street and looking out the big front window during a storm. Lightning struck the chimney of the house opposite, blowing the earthenware chimney pot to pieces and knocking several bricks off the stack. Exciting.

I like watching electrical storms. At least, I do if I’m warm and dry (and safe) when they’re happening, although since the local climate is a big factor in their frequency, I don’t get the pleasure very often at home. I do remember one time outside Montiriggioni in Tuscany, a walled, hilltop village, where I watched lightning strikes right round the entire horizon, even though it wasn’t even raining where I stood.

On one of my early visits to Tuscany, when my entire extended family had rented a castle, the weather was perfect until the very last day, and then, that morning, the heavens opened and lightning hit the tower, causing the electricity to trip out. It wasn’t a problem though. The kitchen stove was on gas, so we got breakfast before leaving to travel back home. The rain washed a fortnight’s white dust off the hire cars too. Then on my spell in Umbria earlier this year, I spent a couple of hours hanging out my apartment window one evening, trying to get photos of the strikes on the hillsides across the valley.

From the lightning incidence map, it looks as though Italy has by far the highest rate of any country in Europe, but apparently the absolute record is held by the village of Kifuka in Congo, with an average of 158 strikes per square kilometre per year. That means you’d be within spitting distance of one every couple of days. (In comparison, “Lightning Alley” in Florida has about 20 per squre kilometre per year.)

Of course, I always count seconds from the flash to the bang. Actually, when you think about it, sound is surprisingly slow, taking a full three seconds to travel a kilometre, while the light from the flash gets there in about three microseconds. I don’t usually bother to add on the three microseconds when I’m estimating the distance. I reckon on anything less than three seconds as “close” anyway.

With a strong interest in nature’s fireworks, I’m especially fascinated with the menagerie of upper-atmosphere phenomena which have been discovered only in about the last twenty years. High-flying research aircraft and spacecraft have revealed the existence of Sprites, giant red jellyfish which occur around 100km above storms, right on the edge of space. Between the cloud tops and the Sprites, there are Blue Jets, and even above the Sprites there are huge, but very faint flashes called Elves, first seen from a Shuttle mission in 1990. Sadly, I doubt if I’ll ever get to see them first-hand. I’ll have to be satisfied with the show at ground level.

Eggman Won't Be Finding Any Treasures HERE...

EDIT: The Comic Now Runs Top-To-Bottom… But That Won’t Help The Quality. At Least Its Still Random!

Get It? Bronze Medal? Third Place? 3rd post? L.O.L!

The previous post failed to cover some topics, the main one being this: the 1999 game “Re-Volt”. Re-Volt was created by Acclaim Entertainment. (now, unfortunately, it’s an MMORPG gateway site) What made Re-Volt popular was it’s combination of a realistic physics engine with kart-style pickups. oh, and the level editors, stunt arena, and bonus 40-man-windup-car gameplay modes helped as well. although the cream of the crop had to be the PC versions INSANE mods. you could drive a remote-controlled TEAPOT! A TEAPOT, I Tell You!!! I’ll occasionally rant about some new mod i’ve downloaded or some new adjustment to my super-modded car. who knows? maybe I’ll get someone to watch some YouTube videos about it? then they’ll HAVE to buy it! (off of E-bay, of course) Unfortunately, you need to download the 0916 or 1207 Patches to make it work on modern day computers. (Get Them Here!)

The Cover Art For "Re-Volt"

The A.Z.I homepage will also feature some Sprite Sheets that me and Jake-Snake have made or modded. there’s a categorized-thingamabobber at the bottom of this page that will let you see what other posts have sprites or comics or whatever… so eventually there should be a decent resource of Sprites Sheets for the comical psycopath. I’ll eventually have uploaded quite a few of our ‘better’ comics eventually, if you’re looking for a good chuckle or two.

I would talk more except i’ve been a little busy… oh, well. gives me time to finish FlameGame3.5… Wait, i wasn’t supposed to say that! DOH!
