The other day, I was talking about a friend, behind her back. Of course, I was not saying good things about her. We were making fun of her ideas, her ideals and her approach. Later, during some moments of introspection, I felt sorry for myself. Why did I fall into that vicious circle of criticizing others? Who am I to judge anyone?

God has already given all of us full opportunity and freedom to perk up one of his greatest creation. He has given us, ourselves.  We are a big project ourselves. In terms of writing, we must be his first draft. There is still a lot of scope to revise and edit this existing draft.  God has put no limits to which we can go and improve ourselves. We can find n number of our weaknesses and work on them to transform into a better person.  There isn’t any time limit too. He has given us our entire lifetime to do so. In this process of editing, it’s helpful to have some good editors in close vicinity, but self-analysis is the best.

Sri Paramahansa Yogananda, founder of SRF, once said, “Learn to analyze yourself, looking at both the negative and the positive: how did you come to be what you are? What are your good and bad points, and how did you acquire them? Then set about to destroy the bad harvest. Remove the tares of evil traits from your soul and sow more seeds of spiritual qualities, to increase the crop of good harvest. As you recognize your weaknesses and scientifically remove them, you become stronger.”

Realizing my mistake and acting on Guruji’s advice, I put forth my first step to change myself. I will stop criticizing others, especially behind their backs. I would either muster the courage to point out their weakness upfront and be one of their editors, if they so desire, or else shut up. When my comments bring no good to anyone, they do not help me in anyway either. It’s just a wasteful thing to do. I pledge, never to get involved in any of such futile acts.

The planning and preparation activities for the SRF meeting started in June. Stanley Wood mobilized the Consortium for Spatial Information (CSI) community to contribute to the overall process of developing a SRF for the CGIAR over the next 6 years. I’m sure many of you know about Square Enix (well those of you that like Japanese Role Playing Games* anyway). They have been responsible for brilliant games such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

With Infinite Indiscovery being less than brilliant and Final Fantasy XIII being delayed until 2010, they needed another amazing game to pull them through the rest of 2009.

*JRPG’s remain my favourite genre with Western Role Playing Games behind that (commonly know as RPG’s). The Japanese have really nailed games that aren’t just about the gameplay, but about epic story lines, memorable characters and a lot of collectable treasures and secrets.

Traits such as synthesis (the creation of items using gems and other fictious objects to often create the most powerful equipment in the game) and secret dungeons with epic boss battles are abundant in JRPG’s.

Square Enix has come back with another brilliant game the is the prequel to one of their famed franchises, Star Ocean.

Yes, Star Ocean: The Last Hope is here and is awesome. Back with all the classic things JRPG’s have to offer as well as a brilliant action, real time battle system that just doesn’t get stale which is important because fighting is something you will be doing a lot.

First let me introduce you to an all star party that will be taking through an extravagant space voyage.

You play as Edge Maverick (names don’t come much cooler than that) which has the same sort of heroic qualities and awesome name as Cloud Strife a Final Fantasy Character.

Edge is part of the SRF, Space Reconnaissance Force and later in the journey becomes the captain of a ship called the Calnus. Along With his childhood friend Reimi they take off to explore the stars. Throughout the story you will gain up to nine characters in your party, all different from the last. Each have interesting relationships and Edge and Reimi have a love story.

All of the are presented in an Anime style with English voice dubbing. The dubbing isn’t the best but it’s better than a lot of other JRPG’s out there. The soundtrack accompanies the game beautifully and really gives it something extra.

Not only do the characters look beautiful but everything from the enemies and the levels have a great attention to detail making it look spectacular. Not only does it look good but the enemy style as well as the landscape is varied. Since there’s over 100 different monsters and huge area’s to explore, that’s a good thing.

As mentioned previously, the Japanese love their collectibles and Star Ocean has plenty of them. With 9 characters and 100 battle trophies for each that will keep you going. Not to mention the 100+ treasure chests, monster data, weapon data, spaceship data, item creation, two secret dungeons, 4 difficulty levels and nine extra unlockable endings … woa, that’s a lot of stuff. Oh, did I mention the game is over three discs?

Now that the collecting is over lets talk battle systems. Star Ocean features a totally full on action system (no turn based battles here) that is full of combos and a new addition called a blindside, which lets you dodge an enemy’s attack, then slide behind them for a critical hit. That never gets old.

While your party can consist of eight people (one character leaves towards the end, leaving you with eight not nine characters) only four may do battle at once. Never fear though, your four reserve characters are waiting in the wings and can be swapped out by bringing up the in battle menu letting you change tactics, use items etc (see below image).

As you walk around towns and levels, Edge is your only option but during battle you may swap between characters in your party as you please.

Thankfully there isn’t any slowdown in this game to disrupt the experience. The only thing that may get frustrating is that you can only save at designated save points. Save every chance you get because you don’t know when you’ll run into a boss or a powerful enemy.

In the end, you either love JRPG’s or you don’t. For those of you that do pick up Star Ocean and you won’t be disappointed. Cutscenes that go for 30 minutes or more make it feel like a cinematic experience as well as playing a game. With all the things Star Ocean has to offer, you should be playing for a very, very long time.

No dia 4 de junho de 2009, foi promulgada a Lei nº 11.945 que, entre outras providências, além de alterar a legislação tributária, trouxe novidades importantes para você que comercializa ou importa papéis.

Como é sabido, a Constituição Federal concedeu imunidade tributária sobre livros, jornais, periódicos E o papel destinado à sua impressão (art. 150. IV, “d”).

Por força do que determinou a IN SRF nº 71, de 24 de agosto de 2001, republicada no DOU de 13.9.2001, e modificada pela IN SRF nº 101, de 21 de dezembro de 2001, eram obrigados a se cadastrar no Registro Especial, instituído pelo art. 1º do Decreto-lei nº 1.593, de 21 de dezembro de 1977, os fabricantes, os distribuidores, os importadores, as empresas jornalísticas ou editoras e as gráficas que realizarem operações com papel destinado à impressão de livros, jornais e periódicos.

Com a nova lei, essa obrigação se estendeu, também, a quem exerce as atividades de comercialização e importação de papel e a qualquer um que adquirir papel destinado à impressão de livros, jornais e periódicos. 

É importante atentar para essa nova obrigação, pois a não comprovação da correta destinação do papel beneficiado com a imunidade para a Secretaria da Receita Federal sujeitará a pessoa jurídica a penalidades que variam de R$ 100,00 (cem reais) a R$ 5.000,00 (cinco mil reais), dependendo de ter ocorrido omissão ou mera inexatidão das informações apresentadas, e, adicionalmente, R$ 2.500,00 (dois mil e quinhentos reais) ou R$ 5.000,00 (cinco mil reais) pela sua apresentação intempestiva, a depender do porte da empresária.

Ressalta-se que existe previsão de redução da multa pela metade se apresentadas as informações antes de qualquer procedimento de ofício.

Ademais, mesmo que a empresária se cadastre, seu registro especial poderá ser cancelado em caso de:
I – desatendimento dos requisitos que condicionaram a sua concessão;
II – situação irregular da pessoa jurídica perante o Cadastro Nacional da Pessoa Jurídica – CNPJ;
III – atividade econômica declarada para efeito da concessão do Registro Especial divergente da informada perante o CNPJ ou daquela regularmente exercida pela pessoa jurídica;
IV – não comprovação da correta destinação do papel; ou
V – decisão final proferida na esfera administrativa sobre a exigência fiscal de crédito tributário decorrente do consumo ou da utilização do papel destinado à impressão de livros, jornais e periódicos em finalidade diferente daquela prevista na Lei.

Particularmente, nas hipóteses dos itens IV e V, será vedada a concessão de novo Registro Especial, pelo prazo de 5 (cinco) anos, ao infrator. Vedação esta que será estendida também se aplica a pessoas jurídicas que possuam em seu quadro societário pessoa física que tenha participado, na qualidade de sócio, diretor, gerente ou administrador, de pessoa jurídica que teve Registro Especial cancelado em virtude daqueles itens. 

Por fim, registra-se que a comercialização do papel a cadastrados nesse Registro faz prova da regularidade de sua destinação, mesmo que este o desvie de sua finalidade protegida.

O que é?

Regime aduaneiro especial onde as operações de importação, exportação e transito aduaneiro terão tratamento expresso, ou seja, todas as operações efetuadas pela pessoa jurídica habilitada na linha azul serão prioritárias e/ou facilitadas.

Para quem?

Pessoas jurídicas industriais que operem com regularidade no comércio exterior.

Quais são os benefícios?

Aqueles habilitados à linha azul terão:
• Armazenamento prioritário ficando sob custodia do depositário até ser submetida ao despacho aduaneiro.
• As mercadorias importadas serão preferencialmente direcionadas para o canal verde da parametrização
• Do mesmo modo que para importação os produtos exportados também terão preferência de seguir pelo canal verde.

Como obter essa habilitação?

A lista de exigências para ser habilitado a operar na linha azul é longa e rigorosa. No entanto o esforço é válido. Abaixo explico as principais delas.
Inicialmente só podem iniciar o processo de habilitação empresas do setor industrial, extrativista ou beneficiamento. Que operem a mais de 24 meses. Com controle contábil informatizado e com regularidade total (salvo raríssimos casos) junto a Receita Federal.
Friso que “operar com regularidade” significa mínimo de cem (100) operações de comércio exterior, somatório de importações e exportações, nos 12 meses anteriores a apresentação do pedido de habilitação. E que essas operações somem ao todo dez milhões de dólares (US$ 10.000.000,00) ou equivalente em outra moeda.
Outra questão é que somente pessoas jurídicas com patrimônio líquido superior a vinte milhões de reais (R$20.000.000,00), apurados no mês anterior a requisição da habilitação. A exceção das empresas de renovação, recondicionamento, reparo e manutenção de aeronaves e peças aeronáuticas. Onde essa exigência cai para cinco milhões de reais (R$ 5.000.000,00).

Das exportações brasileiras mais de 90% do valor delas é feito por grandes empresas esta instrução normativa é nitidamente para esse grupo. O que não impede que as micro, pequenas e médias empresas, que correspondem a 75% dos exportadores brasileiros, se organizem para obter benefício semelhante.

Por ultimo cabe ressaltar que não podem requerer habilitação para operar na linha azul são as empresas:
• que atuem no comércio exterior por conta e ordem de terceiros;
• de fumo e produtos de tabacaria,
• de armas e munições,
• de bebidas,
• de jóias e pedras preciosas;
• que possuam sócio residente ou domicilio fiscal em país com tributação favorecida ou que oponha sigilo relativo à composição societária;
• que não cooperem com a prevenção e repressão à lavagem de dinheiro internacional.

São importante essas proibições pelo objetivo de não permitir que o crime organizado faça uso da linha azul. Infelizmente os ramos proibidos são extremamente lucrativos.
