The world’s approximately 23,300 nuclear weapons are stored at an estimated 111 locations in 14 countries, according to an overview produced by Federation of American Scientists and Natural Resources Defense Council.

Nearly half of the weapons are operationally deployed with delivery systems capable of launching on short notice.

The overview is published in the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and includes the July 2009 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) memorandum of understanding data. A previous version was included in the annual report from the International Panel of Fissile Materials published last month.

Russia has an estimated 48 permanent nuclear weapon storage sites, of which more than half are on bases for operational forces. There are approximately 19 storage sites, of which about half are national-level storage facilities.  In addition, a significant number of temporary storage sites occasionally store nuclear weapons in transit between facilities.

This is a significant consolidation from the estimated 90 Russian sites ten years ago, and more than 500 sites before 1991.

Many of the Russian sites are in close proximity to each other and large populated areas.  One example is the Saratov area where the city is surrounded by a missile division, a strategic bomber base, and a national-level storage site with probably well over 1,000 nuclear warheads combined (Figure 2).

The United States stores its nuclear weapons at 21 locations in 13 states and five European countries.  This is a consolidation from the estimated 24 sites ten year ago, 50 at the end of the Cold War, and 164 in 1985 (see Figure 3).

Europe has about the same number of nuclear weapon storage locations as the Continental United States, with weapons scattered across seven countries. This includes seven sites in France and four in Britain. Five non-nuclear NATO countries (Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey) still host U.S. nuclear weapons first deployed there during the Cold War.

We estimate that China has 8-14 facilities associated with nuclear weapons, most likely closer to the lower number, near bases with units that operate nuclear missiles or aircraft.  None of the weapons are believed to be fully operational but stored separate from delivery vehicles at sites controlled by the Central Military Commission.

Where does China store nuclear warheads for its ballistic missile submarines?  The naval base near Julin on Hainan Island has extensive underground facilities.  An alternative to the base itself could potentially be a facility elsewhere on the island, such as Foluo Air Base where construction of an underground facility began five years before the first SSBN arrived at Hainan. Israel probably has about four nuclear sites, whereas the nuclear storage facilities in India and Pakistan are – despite many rumors – largely undetermined.  All three countries are thought to store warheads separate from delivery vehicles.

Despite two nuclear tests and many rumors, we are unaware of publicly available evidence that North Korea has operationalized its nuclear weapons capability.

Warhead concentrations vary greatly from country to country. With 13,000 warheads at 48 sites, Russian stores an average of 270 warheads at each location. The U.S. concentration is much higher with an average of 450 warheads at each location. These are averages, however, and in reality the distribution is thought to be much more uneven with some sites only storing tens of warheads.

Finally, a word of caution is in order: estimates such as these obviously come with a great deal of uncertainty, as we don’t have access to classified intelligence estimates. Based on publicly available information and our own assumptions we have nonetheless produced a best estimate that we hope will assist the public debate. Comments and suggestions are encouraged so we can adjust the overview in the future.

En février 2008, je participais à mon premier tournoi de Super Smash Bros. Melee : PEPE’S GARDEN.

Cela faisait déjà 5 ans que je jouais à ce jeu avec un niveau moyen (sans technique avancées) et je ne jouais qu’avec les deux mêmes personnes… donc c’était l’occasion de jouer avec de nouveaux joueurs.

Suite à ce tournoi, j’étais impatient que Super Smash Bros. Brawl sorte ! Et ce fut le cas, le 27 juin 2008 !!

Au fil des mois, je découvris que la communauté autour de ce jeu devenait de plus en plus grande.

C’est ainsi qu’en août, je rejoignais une team online nommé : Storm Armada.

Par la suite je suis devenu l’administrateur du forum et cela fait déjà un an que ça dure !

Almost every generation has a specific drug associated with it. The 1960’s can’t be thought of without thinking of marijuana. The 80’s will primarily be considered the cocaine era. The 00’s (if we can call them that) will probably be known for painkillers or marijuana (I’ll be doing a poll later in this post to get some of your opinions). With the new year a mere 3 months away I have strong feeling which drugs will identify the next decade:

Neuro Enhancers

To keep things simple I am only going to mention the most popular: Adderall. Some of you may already know it and hell some of you may have already taken it. To those of you who do NOT know what it is I will try to explain it as simple as possible. Adderall is a prescription drug used to treat children and adults with ADHD. I want to stress that it is a prescription drug and NOT over the counter. In other words the FDA has NOT approved it’s use for people who are not diagnosed with ADHD.

As with any drug that is going around studies are always being done. From the research i’ve personally done (based on these previously mentioned studies taken at different colleges around the US) the average amount of students who have at least tried a neuro enhancer is 23%. Think about that for a second…. 1 in 4 kids at your school have taken and probably are still taking Adderall, Ritalin, or one of those “smart drugs.”

So what? Who gives a crap right? Actually… You probably should. You may not even go to college any more but believe it or not you may still be around people who are using it to enhance them.

Now before I even get into this I want to get one thing straight. The purpose of this post is not to give my opinion. Sure, I have one. But this post is more so about information. I also wanted to mention that I have briefly interviewed people that I know who have personally taken it. I may or may not quote them directly but regardless their names and information WILL be kept private. I won’t even tell you their gender. Got it? Good. Now let’s go…

Firstly, I want to start by explaining that the true purpose of the drug is to help people diagnosed with ADHD pay more attention. It helps them calm down so they can concentrate and stick to one task at a time. It makes it easier for them to stay motivated and not become side tracked. To someone that doesn’t have ADHD? From the interviews I’ve done the most common response is similar to that. The difference being that rather than the person calm down to concentrate the brain goes into a overdrive. One of the interview people said that they feel as if they “chugged 5 Red Bulls but without the crash or the jitters.” Almost every person I talked to who has taken or is taking the drug NOT prescribed said the same things. They were able to concentrate more on the task at hand, were able to remember things MUCH more clearly and with MUCH more precision, had a curbed appetite, were given an extreme amount of energy (again without the crash), and were able to communicate much more effectively (whether it be in class, work, or elsewhere). They all however agreed on one interesting fact: The drug did not make them smarter. One of them described that it wasn’t that they magically became smarter but rather it made them work harder. I recently read a great article where another person was also interviewing people. The person he interviewed, a college graduate, said something that sums it up pretty well.

“It only works as a cognitive enhancer insofar as you are dedicated to accomplishing the task at hand. The number of times I’ve taken Adderall late at night and decided that, rather than starting my paper, hey, I’ll organise my entire music library! I’ve seen people obsessively cleaning their rooms on it. Often I’ve looked back at papers I’ve written on Adderall, and they’re verbose. They’re labouring a point, trying to create this airtight argument. I’d produce two pages on something that could be said in a couple of sentences.”

He later summed up that despite all that he was still able get steady consistent grades. He said simply “Productivity is a good thing.”   I’d like to mention also that the school he graduated from is in fact Harvard University.

Ok so perhaps you don’t go to college any more. Maybe you are too young or you already graduated… Let’s talk Adderall in the work place (and I promise I will keep it short and sweet). One of the people I interviewed was in fact not in college but only worked. They told me that the days they take it and the days they do not are VERY different. On days they had taken it they explained that not only were they 10 times more productive but they were able to perform at such a higher level in every sense. Once again they mentioned the term “Overdrive.” Here is where the questions of right and wrong come into play. Would it be fair if that person got a raise or promotion over someone that didn’t? Or is the drug just another productivity tool used to get the most out of yourself?

Is it a cheating advantage? Or is it like saying to someone “Don’t drive there because going faster is more dangerous, I’d rather you simply walk the 10 miles”?

My last example is something that my <3’s who read this site may be more familiar with. Professional Gaming. You already know where I am going don’t you? If you think Adderall and other drugs similar aren’t being used in Pro Gaming than you are VERY naive. Humans in nature will always look for an advantage one way or another. It could be as simple as a shortcut on a road trip or as serious as Steroids in baseball. Something will always come about. Pro gaming is no different. Again, excluding names, there has already been situations where Pro Gamers have admitted to taking it and placing higher in tournaments than when they did not. When I asked retired Professional Gamer (Super Smash Brothers Melee), and writer on our site, PC Chris about his opinion on Adderall in Pro Gaming he said this, “…it ruins the game at high level play in the sense that experienced vets have an edge over other competitors because they have the knowledge and nerves to pull out victories in high pressure situations because they can keep their cool and their focus.” He also said that, “…their reactions probably improve as well….they might as well allow controller mods. Turbo Button fah dayz.”

As far as a debate is concerned PC Chris said something that could be looked at in multiple ways. “Also, Adderall isn’t something every gamer can get their hands on.”

So the questions I raise are these: What happens if Adderall becomes an over the counter drug? What if research finds that there is no long term side effects associated with it? Would everyone then be inclined to take it or would it be looked down upon? Some studies show that you CAN in fact become addicted to it. What then? What if you all of a sudden NEED it in able to concentrate.

Writer Margaret Talbot poses a good question as well: “If we eventually decide that neuro enhancers work, and are basically safe, will we one day enforce their use?”

I had an interesting conversation about it with a Doctor recently (told you i’ve been doing my research). His point was this: If humans have been doing it a certain way for thousands of years who is to say it should be changed? We, as adults, learn how to multitask and concentrate based on experience. Why rely on a drug to do it for you?

What it boils down to is that no one really does know the true long lasting effects of Adderall or other drugs like it. Sure one might ask about adults who have been taking it or something similar since they were a child but how much do we really know? Is Adderall steroids for the brain where it can have nasty effects down the road or is it just a way to use the brain to more of it’s full potential?

The fact of that matter is no one really knows yet. As with most things only time will tell. I do know this: People are taking it. Whether it be college students, co workers, or pro gamers. It’s being taken and the “amazing” short term effects it has are undeniable. So much that use of the drug itself is spreading like wildfire.

If you managed to read through this whole thing I fucking love you. I hope it gives you some insight to what very well may be the type of drug that defines the next decade. It has been a while since my last post. Unfortunately, I think the main reason for this has to do with video games.

See, I signed up for a beta-testing account with this game called Heroes of Newerth. It is essentially a DotA clone, for those of you who know what that is. For those of you who don’t, it is sufficient to say that it is an online, multiplayer game. Basically, I have been playing this almost every free moment that I have, often times when I shouldn’t technically have free time. I was able to get away from it for a little while today in order to make some progress on the book I am currently reading, but the fact is, I am addicted.

I’m not really talking about this in the sense of “I am totally addicted to these muffins my mother makes,” but in the real sense. Truthfully, I think about this game almost non-stop, even dream about it. In my spare time when I can’t be playing, I look at the forums for guides on how to properly play the different heroes in the game and improve as a player. I can compare this to a very similar experience I had with the game Super Smash Brothers Melee, which is instead a console game, but just as addictive. I think what draws me to these games in part is that they have a lot of little skills to learn and improve on. Each game is different because you are not playing against the computer, but other humans, so you are required to adjust and adapt. I am somewhat addicted to some other single-player games, but not nearly to the extent of these. SSBM is a large part of the reason why I had to come home from Mudd, I would say.

Basically, I’m not sure what I should do about this. I’ll definitely have to give it up before the school year starts, or I won’t get anywhere. I think I can do this, but I am slightly worried. I will have a lot on my plate as it is this fall and I cannot add this problem to the mix.

In other news, I saw a friend a few days ago who I hadn’t seen in a long while. He was basically just stopping in town before beginning his road trip back to school and came by the house. In truth, he didn’t come over to see me, but instead one of my housemates. I am fine with this, but I feel as though I have lost some of the connection I had with him in high school. We were basically inseparable during our first two years and somehow we have drifted apart since then. I suppose we have our differences, but I really enjoy hanging out with him. I haven’t really had a chance to do so for a couple years now, and somehow it has become slightly awkward, like we just met and are only in the same room because we have a connection through a mutual friend.

I miss the days when friendships seemed so simple. There was no drama about who is willing to hang out with who or which people have been having a conflict of interest. It was just you had your friends and they hung out with you without any pretense. Just for the sake of hanging out. There didn’t have to be any direction to it. No goal, no event needed to bring you together. There was never the awkwardness of needing to do something together. You didn’t even really have to talk.

Maybe it just seemed that way because we were in school and only had the time between classes and during lunch. Maybe it was just because I had such a distance barrier between home and my social life that I considered those times so precious.

But they were precious. They were some of the happiest times during my life. Nothing big. Just hanging out during lunch. Playing the same card game every day. Maybe it was the regularity of it that I so valued. The fact that it never seemed to change. It was timeless, in a sense.

I’m also scared to think that I may never have that kind of experience again. We all are going our separate ways. It becomes more and more apparent as we near the end of our schooling and begin to find our own paths. I have never been one to embrace change willingly and this shit just scares the bejeezus out of me.

Pues como que con Zelda Majoras Mask volví a agarrar el gusto por estos juegos de Zelda ya que lo había dejado un rato después de terminar el Twiligth Princess y me puse a pensar porque mi primo me había dicho que la mascara Majoras era el enemigo más difícil de estos juegos en tercera dimensión y me di cuenta que esta dichosa mascara era un enemigo “algo difícil” pero tienes diversos armas que te ayudan a vencerla con muchísima facilidad como la Fierce Deity Masks con la que te conviertes en un poderoso link, así que me puse a pensar en mi héroe que en realidad es el villano de la historia, GANONDORF!!!

Este villano por excelencia,  quien posee la tria fuerza de La Fuerza así como a Link le corresponde el Valor y a Zelda la Sabiduría, es así parte fundamental de las historias de Zelda (exceptuando algunas) y me encontré con las que a mi parecer son las mejores apariciones de este villano en la saga, la primera y seguramente una de las más impresionantes en Zelda y la Ocarina del Tiempo

La batalla estaba dividida en dos Fases

Fase 1: En la cual te enfrentas con el en un lugar cuadrado y lo único que tienes que hacer es regresarle una bola de poder y dispararle flechas de luz después golpearlo con tu espada cuando lo derribaras, esta etapa eran muy sencilla.

Fase2: Después de que lo vencías en la primera etapa y escapabas de la destrucción del castillo y un misterioso sonido salía de entre los escombros Link se acerca solo para descubrir que Ganondorf sigue vivo pero en esta ocasión se convierte en la bestia que habita en su interior GANON, es esta batalla en donde pierdes tu espada y lo tienes que enfrentar como puedas es el verdadero punto en donde lo hardcore tiene que salir de ti para darle con todo, el nivel de dificultad de esta batalla es más elevado que en la batalla anterior además de ser muy emocionante.

Y la segunda no menos impresionante en Zelda y la Princesa del Crepúsculo

Esta dividida en cuatro fases

Fase 1: Te enfrentabas con Zelda poseída por Ganondorf y prácticamente es la misma dinámica de regresarle bolas de poder, no es muy interesante.

Fase 2: En esta te enfrentas a la bestia Ganon y la vences con la ayuda de Midna.

Fase 3: En esta ocasión te enfrentas a caballo y con la ayuda de Zelda y las flechas de Luz. Esta batalla es impresionante.

Fase 4: La batalla final es simplemente épica

So, for my first real post I decided to write an post about SSBM. And for those who do not know it, I shall give a brief summary of the game. Super Smash Bros. Melee is a Nintendo VS. Game and is the second game of the Super Smash Bros. series. It is for Nintendo Gamecube and players are up to 4. If I had to explain Super Smash Bros., it is a game where you must get your opponents health gadge higher and higher, until you can knock him/her off the stage. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, there is a wide variety of characters to play with. The game really doesn’t have any plot, it is just the game with Nintendo’s all-stars fighting all in one game!

Stages. SSBM has a large amount of stages, each stage is from one of the characters games. For example, the stage “Green Greens” from Dream Land is a stage from Kirby. The thing that intrigues me about the stages is that someone from a completely different game can come to that stage and clash with whomever else is there!

 The stages are exclusively unique and very enjoyable to play, and have quite the same amount of fun. Some stages consist of zero gravity, acid, a self-tilting stage, and many more! Along with default stages, there are also hidden stages that you must attempt to unlock. That challenge is yours to achieve.

Battle. When battling in Melee, you must first choose your own character. Each character, having their own unique abilities, would be a hard choice who to pick, no? Well, on my prospective, I just pick whoever I like out of all the All-Stars. Each person who ever has played it, usually always has their own style of playing. Whether that would be grabbing your foe like crazy and ending up with the score “Butterfingers”, or has the score of “In the Frey” and fights ’til the end.

When battling in Melee, you will also need to figure out how your opponent fights and who they fight on particular stages. If you can see through their curtain, victory will be all the more easier to enjoy! As I said above, SSBM can contain up to 4 players battling at once. Provided you have 4 Nintendo Gamecube controllers, it will be nearly impossible to not be in the fight! SSBM is a very good game to play with your friends, or, your foes!

Another interesting thing about battling, is that if you look on top, you can change the mode from “Free for all” to “Team Battle”. This way, you can either be on the Green Team, and by teamed up against 3 people on the Red Team. Or, you can be on the Blue Team and have on ally, and your opponent will have one ally! Team Battle really tests your skill and companionship with the person you are fighting along-side with. Though Team Battle may not always be “friendly”, for if you go in options, you can select the “Friendly Fire”, and your teammates can hurt you as if they were your enemy!

Biggest waste of a character? If you play Classic Mode and beat it with Mario, you can unlock “Dr. Mario”.

Normally you’d be excited to unlock a new character, but really, Dr. Mario is the biggest waste of a character. All that is different about him is his clothing. And instead of shooting the Fireball attack, he shoots Megavitamins. But really, that’s all that is different about Dr. Mario, and I am personally disappointed why they added a useless character (the Mario series had plenty of characters to begin with), whereas they couldn’t include someone new to Metroid, or The Legend of Zelda. Regardless of whom they chose, it would’ve been a better decision then Dr. Mario.

Trophies. In SSBM, you can obtain Trophies to look at your own viewing pleasure. Not all Trophies are easy to obtain, in fact, some pertain to beating a certain mode on a high difficulty setting, without using a single continue! By completing special events, character modes, etc., you can collect far more then 500 Trophies! All from different Nintendo games. English, or not English.

Trophies, like other games, are the “collectable items” you can obtain. If you look at The Legend of Zelda, there is always a collectable item you can receive. Like, “Golden Skullita Spirits” from Ocarina of Time, “Mysterious Shells” from Minish Cap, or even “Golden Bugs” in Twilight Princess. So basically, Trophies fit into this category. And they are well worth it once they are obtained! Trophies also offer a summary of what the Trophy is and what the character may be.

Das Spiel

Bei dem Spiel geht es darum, den Gegner zu “verprügeln” und somit Schaden in Form von %-Angaben zuzufügen. Ziel ist es den Gegner aus dem Level zu befördern. Dabei gilt: je höher die %-Zahl des Gegener, desto leichter ist er aus dem Level zu befördern.

Es gibt einen Singleplayer Modus mit diversen Spiel-Varianten. Des weiteren gibt es einen Multiplayer mit verschiedenen Variationen. Es kann z. B. gegen ein Zeitlimit (wer die meisten Kills erreicht gewinnt), ein Stock-Modus (jeder Spiele hat eine bestimmte Anzahl von Leben) oder ein Coin-Modus (getroffene Spieler verlieren Münzen; die gilt es einzusammeln) gespielt werden. Jeder Modus lässt sich jeweils im “Alle-Gegen-Alle” oder im Team bestreiten. Es sind maximal 3 verschiedene Teams und 4 verschiedene Spieler möglich.

Meinung / Bewertung

Das Spiel habe ich zum ersten Mal vor ca. 6 Jahren (seit 2002) gespielt. Es macht auch heute noch einen riesen Spaß. Am spaßigsten ist es immer noch zusammen mit einem menschlichen Mitspieler im Team 2 Computer der Stufe 9 zu verprügeln. Das Spiel wird für immer ein großartiges Spiel sein und kann jederzeit mit viel Spaß gespielt werden

A quick surf through one of three remaining good boards at 4chan (/w/) yielded this, so I thought I might share with everybody.  I personally like it quite a bit.
