Indeed yes! Although I’m not entirely sure that a band called SSS should be allowed into Christmas. After all, it doesn’t seem like an overly Christian name.

And they’re Liverpudlians. So that’s a double whammy.

However, you can’t deny that they’ve stuck to the short, sharp shock of their name with their delightful Christmas ditty ‘Merry ChristmaSSS’. However, I’m sure Jesus would forgive them despite the heathenish message below. I can only assume all the ice and snow has cut down on their hubcap liberation over the last week, hence the humbug. Scouse gits.

THE DAVAO  City Homeowners Associations Federation, Inc., from its humble beginnings, had indeed come a long way. And I would like to share how this coalition started, and as to how they initiated a seemingly David-Goliath fight with giant corporations like Balikatan.

DCFHA, Inc. was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, with SEC Registration No. CN200832448. The said registration was initiated and sponsored by this writer. This enables the Federation to function as a juridical person having the rights to sue and be sued as provided by law.

The Federation has the following officers: Richy Nalagon (Cabantian Country Homes), President (on-leave); Rodrigo Pavon (NHA Maa), Vice President/OIC; Maria Banlasan (Jade Valley), Secretary; Ariel Macabenta (Jade Valley), Treasurer; Alladin Tachado (Mamay Village), Auditor; Romeo F. Sabaldan (Marfori Heights), Public Relations Officer; and Dino Ferdinand Galido (Juliville Subdivision), Chairman of Ways and Means. It has the following Board of Directors: Juanito M. Malnegro, Jr. (Lea Subdivision), Jesse Piedad (Sta. Teresita Village), Gerardo L. Gevero (DDF Village), Edmund M. Mamawal (Diho Village), Vicente Fernandez (South Villa, Maa), William F. Martin (Laverna Hills), and Ben Albano (Emily Homes).

With the help of the good City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Vice-Mayor Sara Duterte, the Federation now has the Balikatan Anti-Foreclosure Assistance Center, established December 1, 2008, located at the entrance lobby of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, which serves as venue of all housing-related problems not only those brought by BHFI, but also by other housing agencies.

As a result, the Federation was able to extend continuous help, assistance and negotiation with National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC), Government Service and Insurance System (GSIS), Social Security System (SSS), among others. Numerous accounts which were transferred back from Balikatan to the NHMFC, and through series of consultation and negotiations, the Federation was able to bring down appraised values from millions of pesos to minimal values, say PhP 200, 000. Through the Balikatan desk, hundreds of homeowners were given assistance regarding various housing concerns.

To date, the Federation has conducted ten (10) General Assemblies and meetings. Moreover, the Federation spear-headed a march rally last February 11, 2009, attended by more or less 5,000 homeowners from Davao City, Davao del Norte, and Davao del Sur. The rally aimed to get the awareness of Congress in order to bring their plights as homeowners to national attention.

The homeowners, hand-in-hand with the Federation, had tried different reliefs. First was the legal relief, which later proved to be difficult as it entails a significant amount of money which ordinary Dabawenyos could not easily afford. Second was the administrative relief before the President, and this was indorsed to a housing agency. While these reliefs are pending, the most plausible relief left for the homeowners was the legislative relief through Congress.

The Federation was victorious on this matter, as Congress finally took cognizance of their cause through the hearing of the Congress’ Committee on Housing and Urban Development conducted May 20, 2009.
I’d like to think that the Federation’s fight and struggle would end up victorious, but we could not promise, considering that this is a national concern and that the possible remedies for the same are already within the province of the NHMFC, Balikatan, the courts, and Congress.
And now that the ball is in the hands of Congress already, we will continue our best effort to get what is due to our thousands of homeowners. Personally, I have no regrets with what I did, since I was paid by taxpayers’ money to be of service to our people. To this end, I am more than willing to humble myself in the interest of justice and fair play.

To this city’s homeowners, I will not leave you in this fight. Our homeowners have substandard housing materials and roads, abandoned plazas, and foreclosures before them. Like my activism days in college, I will always be for the poor and for those who seek redress.

Giselle: What was the concept behind the sound? What were you trying to achieve?

Pardon me but im gonna sound like a pretentious prick saying this, hehe. Well, when we started our first band (The Bottles, 1987-93) our concept was to fuse the pop sensibility of the Beatles and the fuck y’all attitude of The Sex Pistols, which we’d like to think we have realized already, except we don’t have the millions that those mentioned bands have, hehe. So in fsandc, we just kinda continued with the concept, except this time the core ideas came from 2 people (me and Jem), instead of 5 or 6 wasted mofos, hehe.

Giselle: How would you classifiy your sounds all through out the years? From the time the demos were made till today….

Apparently we have dabbled in various genres over the years, but what remains constant perhaps is the use of drum machines, samples, loops, and other elements usually found in dance music except used in a rock manner, shit we stole from New Order, Big Audio Dynamite, and the Happy Mondays, hehe. Hell, we’ve been dubbed as electro-punk, industrial pop, and dance metal before, so we don’t care anymore, hahaha.
Anyhoo, we’re comfortable being lumped in the “electronica” genre, only because it’s such a broad term, guess we fit in there somewhere.
Still, our heart belongs to rock n’ roll really, props to Joan Jett and ACDC! hehe

Giselle: I am not going to ask about your influences but what I would rather ask is the inspiration behind the music.

First here’s the deal, if you hear me doing the lead vocals that means I wrote the words to that song, same with if you hear Jem doin the vocal chores (then he wrote the words to that). We always write the lyrics separately eversince, and just messed with the music when we get together. So in my case, I usually write from a personal perspective, yknow bullshit like life experiences and such, but eversince ive also dabbled with socio-political stuff as well, yknow whatever’s on tv at the time, hehe. Jem has the knack to write from various perspectives, as he is into comicbooks and such. That way the listeners would get 2 for the price of one, hehe.

Giselle: Now connect the music with the more racier and raunchier album pics or sleeves. So far, what other reactions did you guys gather aside from the obvious?

Its as simple as the old adage which is “sex sells”, haha. Its everywhere and no one is spared right? Fortunately, we’ve been known already as a “politically incorrect” outfit, writing songs bout drugs, violence, and porn. so anyone calling us sexist pigs would be redundant. Besides, who’d wanna stare at our ugly mugs in the promo stuff anyway? Needless to say, a semi-clothed babe is a way much better deal, haha.

Giselle: When I first visited the official site other than multiply, this was what struck me….”the label will just serve as another venue to give your work more exposure.and since this is a non-profit project, and all releases will be made available for FREE, hence you’re guaranteed that this is totally SCAM-PROOF”…..obviously this is not just to introduce artists from Negros or Bacolod right? Where did you get this particular concept and how is it doing so far? From a musician’s point of view, have you achieved the goal that you wanted in this? Can you be more specific about this?

Goal-wise, I guess we’re halfway there. Apparently, here we are being interviewed by you, haha. Far from being hypocritical about it, what better way to promote your music or whatever, by also promoting other peoples work in the process. Everyone from Kuya Germs to Oprah does it right? Hahaha. Y’know “help yourself, while you help others” that is, and that’s no bull. In fact I realized it only this year when SSS was in full swing that I should’ve done this shit years ago! As a musician, it allowed me to work with other acts in the label as well, mostly in the production aspect (yes, we are The Roadside Bums). One fine example is with Joyce Agacer’s “Valentine’s Happened” single wherein we did a tremendous amount of production work from the ground up, and all that was done via email as she is in Manila. Same with The Colloidal Mixtures’ and Moaner Lisa (based in Los Angeles). And yes, im proud to say that there are really a lot of great talents here in Sugar City, if only I have the resources I’d give em all a real break and show everyone there’s more to us than fuckin piaya and inasal!

Giselle: As a record label, would you have changed anything or what are your longtime goals regarding Sticky Sweet Sounds from Sugar City?

I guess id only want a few tweaks here and there. Like getting corporate sponsors to help finance album launchings, gigs, and other events,
Which y’know cost a lot of money and energy. I surely would want to see SSS being a vital part of the industry someday, if not id be happy to know that one day, it’ll influence other people to start their own labels too, y’know what they say ‘the more the messier”, haha.
But one thing is for certain that will remain unchanged, the music shall remain FOREVER FREE.

Giselle: I’m sure you encountered situationers despite your whole heartened efforts to uplift the scene, what was the most memorable that you would advise people to veer away from?

Ive been a radio jock for almost decade, producing my own show and playing my own records without the manager telling me what to do (fortunately!). so you could say ive been trying to uplift the scene in a way, its just that the scene seems don’t wanna be lifted at all, hahaha.
Seriously though, the old X Files tagline still holds true in this business (or in any), no not “the truth is out there”. It’s “trust no one”. In this day and age, trusting your gut is still the key to survival if you ask me.

Giselle: The same questions above remains as far as the free downloads in your website is concerned.

Yes, I wrote a blog in multiply (before they tore down our original site, hehe), bout how music today should be made free, and that musicians, songwriters, etc. can just go make money elsewhere. It’s a long story but my point being is that in SSS case, its just like for anyone posting his song on Myspace, he may not want it to be downloadable, but he knows that there exist free softwares that still allow anybody to download whatever they want, so why bother? Also it’s a good thing that all is free, so nobody can accuse us of selling out! haha
Anyways, I really have loads to say regarding this matter, but I don’t wanna bore your readers.

Giselle: Who were the bands that stuck with you all throughout.

The Colloidal Mixtures who im proud to say, I helped resurrect, haha. Props to ‘em. Its funny though, coz we both started around the time of Twisted Red Cross’ roster of Pinoy punks (back when Tommy Tanchangco still consider himself as one), yet some people consider us as newbies, which can be a good thing of course, hehe. Still, we’re proud to be contemporaries with Papadom, the Wuds, Urban Bandits, G.I. and the Idiots, and maybe the Dawn (definitely maybe), hehe.

Giselle: What other projects, even if it were just on a compilation cd (hopefully with pay–royalties) was fsc included on?

Well, our “Cracked e.p.” was released back in 2k4 under Triad Records, it was distributed nationwide, was even reviewed in FHM, which the fuckin critic called it “epic and tedious”?!! but was given 3 stars, wadafuck is dat? Btw, if you could find a copy of it, that maybe worth a lot in Ebay someday, hahaha. As for the rest they’re all non-profit endeavors like “8 Track”, “S.A.B.A.W.”, naft’s “RESTART 9”, Overtune Project series, Digital Love series, etc.

Giselle: Podcasting is now an open air space, any plans?

We could yes, but we’d rather stick with releasing singles, eps, and albums and I reckon that’s enough for now, hehe. But then doin a porncast would be great too! hahaha

Giselle: You guys must be getting a lot of proposals from your femmes and maybe some jeers from the machos that undeniably enjoy the album covers, what was the most memorable fan token that you got and what really made you re-think about yours and fsc’s future in music?

“you’re a good boyfriend but you’d make a lousy husband”, those were the exact words 2 of my exes told me which I treasure like tokens of wisdom, hahaha. Well, at our age we take whatever we can really, hehe.
As for fsc’s future in music, well we’ve been at it since 1987, why stop and think about it, when we could just continue to do what is we’re doing.
Guess. In our own little way we’ve already made a wee dent in the scene so to speak, and that already makes us happy. Though it’d be thrill someday to hear some kid, telling us how much we influenced him to be a musician and later a pothead-smut peddler, haha.

Giselle: Would you guys consider yourself to still be misunderstood? Or has the message come across already?

Haha, I really dunno, but I guess yeah we’re still being misunderstood, especially if we refer to the mainstream that is. Maybe, that’s why
radio programmers, major labels, Myx et. al., wouldn’t want anything to do with us up to now, which we’re already quite used to really, haha.
Besides, we’re here in Bacolod, so we have low expectations really to be in the national radar eversince. Back in the day, when we used to sell our tapes via mail order, we get orders as far as Reykjavic and Latvia, but never from Makati, hahaha, so I rest my case. Oh yeh, im still waiting for Raymund Marasigan to give me a call and be a guest in his show where musicians explain how they play a certain song note for note? That’ll be awesome, so I could explain to everyone how it is that I dunno shit and yet here I am, making music, hahahaha!

Giselle: 2010 is a busy year for everyone, what menu have you laid for us….appetizers at least….

The Very Breast of FoodShelterAndClothing (aka Forever Delayed) will be out around March, but before that im slated to do a “noise” project with Etniktronika, a fellow Negrense who dabbles in circuit bending and makes his own instruments. And yes, coming out too is our contribution to the Indiemanila release produced by Happyboy, and finally our HATE (maxi single) will be released via SSS this coming January. That features remixes from the likes of Moaner Lisa and the Funhouse Trio. And oh yeh, we’re slated to write music for Joyce Agacer, which will be quite a challenge since we might do a bit of r & b and jazz on that one. By the way, we’re planning to start a sub label for SSS that will cater to extreme music fans (metal and other experimental stuff), so if there are interested parties out there give usa holla.
Whew, just thinking bout it all makes me wanna lie down and rest for awhile, aw fuck guess im too old for this shit eh? hahaha

Giselle: The coin has two sides. At face, you have your fan base….on tails, you have the nay sayers, in both aspects, where have both been proven wrong in terms of concept and musicality? In terms of the concept behind SSS Records?

I certainly like to think that we’re always right, and that no one has proven us wrong…yet. Besides, that’s the thing with living as far away as we can from Manila, we’re pretty isolated from the haters so to speak. Out here, we can almost always get away with anything, conceptwise, musicwise and/or otherwise. Well as long as we don’t kill a buncha people and bury em in shallow graves all is well indeed. And we’re glad that no one has asked us to alter anything like, “could you write a Tagalog song ala Eraserheads? Or could you make it sound a bit like Pedicab? Or can’t you get a girl to sing for you like Taken by Cars?”, “or why can’t you sing like Rico Blanco or Bamboo?”, “or can’t you write a twee pop song like those wimpy emo-nerds do?” well, hey fuck all that and then some! hahaha

Giselle: Out of curiosity, what particular regimen do you undergo in order to write music?

Despite the preconceptions about musicians, we do write our songs as sober as possible. Not that we dint to attempt to write while under the influence, but it usually sounds like shit the next day when we’re sober enough to know it stinks like hell, hahaha. But of course, during the early years we just freestyled everything like a buncha hip hop gangstas at some back alley in the Bronx, hehe. Examples of which are some of the tracks from our Bottles days, and later in our 1994 debut (e.g. songs like Goner, No Point and In Drag). Needless to say, all are recorded in analog format, hence we can’t do much to alter them really. Once everything’s committed to tape (or the hard drive), that’s the best time to get stoned and smashed and dance like the godforsaken Chippendales! Hahaha Which also makes us very thankful these days for digital technology, wherein we can always fix (or at least try to) parts of the song that don’t sound right to us, hehe. Fuck if they can have a non-singer like Manny Pacman or Willie Revillame release an album we can do that shit too! hahaha

Giselle: Words of hope….words of inspiration….any messages you would like to impart for those who would like to be a part of the SSS train?

First of course our heartfelt thanks to you for this wonderful opportunity to again pimp ourselves to the max, haha. Seriously, this is one of the best interviews I did…ever! Now I could fancy myself a New Wave icon, its time to put on my gold lame’ blazer like Martin Fry, hahaha.

Full on retro-tech upgraded Bluebird SSS coupe. It’s got an S14 SR20DET under the bonnet with the usual mods, IIRC it’s got about 220kws along with a R200 LSD and R33 GTS25T brakes all round. Continuing the Nissan theme the wheels are R32 GTS-t on the front and the wider R32 GTR wheels on the back.

Vandaag kreeg ik een brief van de SSS – Schrijver, school en samenleving. Ze vertelden me dat het thema van de kinderboekenweek 2010 bekend is: Grote Teken Tentoonstelling. Een leuk thema, vonden ze, dat ‘beelden voor de geest’ moet oproepen. Wat dat betreft is het thema goed gekozen, want het roept inderdaad beelden op. Beelden van hele grote teken. Aan mij de opdracht om aan SSS te vertellen wat ik tijdens de kinderboekenweek met dat thema wil doen. Iets met teken lijkt me voor de hand te liggen. Ik kan langs scholen en bibliotheken reizen om ter plekke tekensoep te maken en een vlooiencircus van teken te laten zien, met teken die ik speciaal voor dat doel heb getraind. Teken die op hun achterpootjes kunnen lopen en die ondersteboven aan een mini-trapeze kunnen hangen. Ik neem ook een grote hond mee met teken achter zijn oren, die de kinderen er dan af mogen halen. Ik laat zien dat je teken altijd met een brandende sigaret moet verwijderen en dus niet met een tekenpincet. Tekenpincetten zijn voor watjes. Ik teken een grote rode cirkel op het voorhoofd van juf of biblio-teek-aresse en leg uit dat ze de ziekte van Lyme heeft opgelopen door een tekenbeet. Ik sluit mijn grote Teken Tentoostelling af met een wervelende diashow met plaatjes van teken door de eeuwen heen.

Ik hoef het alleen nog even door te geven aan de mensen van SSS en dan gaan ze mij en mijn tekenshow in een database zetten zodat alle scholen en biblio-teken mij volgend jaar kunnen boeken!

Ke Kopma yuk, laper ni…
Sebuah celetukan keluar dari mulut seorang Mahasiswa IT Telkom yang baru saja keluar dari gedung perkuliahannya. Koperasi mahasiswa yang disingkat menjadi kopma ini memang senantiasa menjadi persinggahan yang asyik bagi mahasiswa IT Telkom. Kata asyik disini mengacu pada tempat yang serba guna dimana di dalamnya terdapat segala kebutuhan yang diperlukan oleh mahasiswanya. Maka salah satu unit kegiatan mahasiswa IT Telkom yang berbasis ekonomi ini telah mengaplikasikan misi – misinya, yaitu memberikan pelayanan yang terbaik dan menumbuhkembangkan kesejahteraan anggotanya.
Setelah matakuliah pertama selesai, biasanya mahasiswa akan segera menyerbu beragam jenis kue di Kopmart, yaitu salah satu bidang usaha Kopma yang menyediakan kebutuhan dasar bagi Kampus IT Telkom. Kue – kue lezat akan segera mereka dapatkan seperti puding, donat, risoles, bolu, dan masih banyak lagi jenis lainnya. Selain makanan kecil, makanan berat seperti nasi kuning dan mi goreng pun juga tersedia. Setelah puas mengubrak – ngabrik makanan yang ada di Kopmart, kita berjalan terus ke sebelahnya. Tulisan Fokopma yang dipampang besar akan terlihat jelas di tempat itu. Ini adalah bidang usaha Kopma yang kedua. Tempat ini menyediakan beragam kebutuhan mahasiswa yang berhubungan dengan dokumen tentunya. Seperti jasa pelayanan penduplikatan dokumen, penjilidan, dan laminating. Juga menyediakan soal – soal UTS, UAS yang selalu dihunting oleh para mahasiswa ketika menjelang quiz atau UTS. Selain itu peralatan kantor dan alat tulis tersedia di sini.
Tidak hanya kebutuhan primer yang kita dapatkan, namun kita bisa memperoleh beragam informasi yang ada di mading Kopma. Setiap tahunnya kopma mengadakan rekruitasi kepada mahasiswa yang ingin menjadi anggotanya. Mahasiswa tersebut diwajibkan untuk membayar iuran. Dari uang yang telah dibayarkan itu akan menghasilkan keuntungan yang lebih nantinya. Uang tersebut akan dibagikan kembali kepada anggota – anggotanya. Seperti inilah siklus sistem yang ada di Kopma. Bagi mereka anggota aktif, berhak memiliki peran penting di kopma, seperti dalam kaderisasi. Hal ini terkait pada fungsi Kopma sebagai sentra pengkaderan dan kader koperasi.
Selain itu masih ada hal menarik lain, seperti event – event yang diadakan kopma. Salah satunya adalah Kopfest yang berasal dari singkatan koperasi festival. Ini adalah ajang praktek bisnis kepada para anggota Kopma dan diadakan setiap tahun. Diacara inilah mereka bisa menunjukkan kebolehan mereka dalam dunia bisnis. Jadi kepada mahasiswa khususnya yang setiap hari bergelut pada bidang coding, mereka akan merasakan hal seru lainnya dari sekedar membuat program atau software. Hal ini mengingat pada peran kopma sebagai tempat mengasah jiwa wirausaha (entrepreneurship) memang telah terbukti.

Indigo jest renderem opartym o algorytm MLT (Metropolis Light Transport), o co dokładnie chodzi to może pominę. Ciekawskich odyłam do wikipedii, natomiast jakie płyną z tego kożyści: model fizyczny rendera opiera się o wyliczanie światła zbliżonego do światła rzeczywistego (inaczej, symuluje zachowanie się prawdziwych promieni światła). Jest to swojego rodzaju aparat, tyle tylko że zamiast korpusu z obiektywem mamy myszkę i klawiaturę a zamiast wizjerka monitor.

2. Rendering siecowy (oparty na protokole TCP/IP).

5. Edytor materiałów.
6. SSS.
7. Długość fal słońca zależna od jego położenia.
8. Obsługa map HDRI (EXR).
9. Obsługa dużych obiektów Mesh (testowany do 28 mln trójkątów).
10. Możliwość ustawienia przesłony, głębokości ostrości, Ogniskowa.

For months, retailers have been able to get away with the following tepid story ……monthly sales comps are stabilizing and the consumer is showing SOME signs of life. Mind you, this story was very heavy on stabilization and very light on “recovery.” Regardless, this tepid yarn has done wonders for the stock prices of many retailers, many of whom are now trading at pre-crash highs.

A few weeks ago, I warned that this story was beginning to grow stale and October would be a very important month for retailers. Why? Well, for the first time in a year, most retailers were going to get a crack at lapping some very lazy 2008 comps and therefore they should be able to put up some big black numbers. And big numbers are really what is needed justify some of the recent stock gains.

While SSS reports are still ten days away, we did get a little preview into October when The Limited released some disappointing guidance ahead of its upcoming Analyst Day. Previously, Limited had been guiding the street to a flat October comp but today they said that they are now looking at something down low to mid-single digits. That probably isn’t a disaster but it does represent a deceleration from September (+1) and it surely is a big letdown when one considers that LTD was lapping a negative nine from last October.

Now I see Jeffries is already out trying to defend the miss and limit it’s applicability to other retailers. Here is what analyst Randall Kolnk had to say:

“We believe the incremental weakness was due to the Victoria’s Secret division having to lap advertising from last year. Importantly, we think LTDs October comp “miss” versus prior plan is company-specific and not representative of the broader retail landscape which we think is solid in October.”

Randall …..the company didn’t just miss your expectations. They missed their own and don’t you think they had factored in the additional ad spend from last year? Sorry, a miss is a miss and this, my friend, was a miss.

I am not going to leap to the conclusion that LTD speaks for the retailing industry. Nor am I going to claim that you should start dumping Gap and Best Buy and Nordstrom simply because LTD didn’t sell as much soap and underwear as they expected. But this is a notable data point that should be given some consideration. Not because LTD has special import. It doesn’t. But the bars are set very low in October and if LTD couldn’t manage to get off the ground, it probably isn’t the best sign. We’ll Know more in ten days but with one Ohio precinct reporting, the bears have the lead.
