There’s another chance to get involved in the exciting “Re-awakening Lea Village” project tomorrow, following on from the successful launch at The Pump last Friday.

The project team are hosting an “open source conference” at St. Richard’s Church, on Hallmoor Road, between 2pm and 5pm.  The aim of this event is to bring as many people together as possible to talk to each other about the issues that interest them and discuss how to explore them. You can also find out about will also how you can volunteer for the project; for example, as interviewers or film makers or researchers. The team will be providing training and trips for all of these roles so please let them know what you would like to do!

The menu includes delicious BBQ ribs, cole slaw, baked beans, corn bread and a choice of two desserts. Tickets at the door are $12 for adults and $5 for children 12 years and younger. Everyone is welcome.

There are many families with needs in our mountain communities, including many that need food. Unfortunately the number of families needing food has grown. The  church pantry needs to build up its food reserves to adequately meet the growing needs of families on the mountain.

And there we go. With Christ we ascend the sloping streets of Jerusalem to Golgotha, to His sacrifice on the cross, to our own eternal redemption.

Today, like previous years, we’ll be travelling there in this blog too. At 45-minute intervals, we’ll stop at one of the 14 stations of the Via Crucis. We’ll do so with all Catholics the world over, all who profess faith in Christ and wish to follow Him in their lives, and especially with the vicar of Christ and all in Rome. The texts in the stations here are the ones used at the Via Crucis in Rome, presided over by Pope Benedict XVI. They are, as I have reported earlier, written by Italian couple Danilo and Anna Maria Zanzuchhi, and are focussed on the plight of families.

The team will be hosting an “Employment Extra” event at St Richard’s Church in Hallmoor Road, Kitts Green, on Thursday 23 February.  It’s a chance for local people to find out more about the WiSH Project and get advice from the WiSH coaches on a whole range of issues, including:

• Money matters
• Help with your CV
• Childcare
• Training
• Support with job searches
• Advice on volunteering
• Benefits
• Self employment

There’s a chance to help this worthwhile cause on Sunday 11 December, between 1pm and 4:30pm.  The Church will be launching their Fundraising Appeal with a Community Lunch and a Celebration, which will also feature a Christingle and a visit from Father Christmas.

Tickets for the lunch (beef casserole and desserts) cost £1.50 per person and are available from the Reverend Paul Bracher and other user group leaders.  I’ll be joining residents to support this worthwhile cause and hope to see you there too!
