Rescuers work at the site of a train derailment, about 400 km (250 miles) northwest of Moscow.

 The ‘Nevsky Express’ train carrying hundreds of passengers from Moscow to St. Petersburg derailed killing dozens of people and injuring dozens more in Tver Region, Russia, on November 28, 2009.

 Four cars derailed.

A bomb attack caused the crash, which killed up to 39 people and injured nearly 130.

The health minister said that the 18 people listed as missing after the incident had not been located in the three car that went off the tracks.

    In August 2007, an explosion derailed the same express train on the same railroad line, injuring 60 people. An investigation into that attack continues, with the main suspect still being sought by authorities.

    The disaster has fueled fears of a rise in terrorist attacks outside Russia’s volatile North Caucasus region. Russia was hit hard by terrorism in the 1990s and the early years of this decade, but there had been no major incident outside the North Caucasus region since 2004.

It’s time for my list. I will be working on it, because there are still some things(latest Swell Season, Devendra Banhart, Julie Doiron etc.) that I have to hear. Recommendations are very welcome! Also, some albums might have scored higher/lower than I reviewed them, simply because I listen to them so much. I’m gonna try to review them all. Anyway, some of my favourites:

Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice [9.5/10] [review]
I think this is my favourite album from this year. Cute, teddy-bear-ish-looking singer-songwriter from Canada. He makes you feel loved inside. Good, strong and dynamic songs, nice vocals, very good instrumental work, wonderful lyrics. The best indie pop album from this year. It’s unbelievable that he’s just 26(25?) (date-material! haha!). Dan’s a keeper and you should keep your eye on him! 

Andrew Bird – Noble Beast/Useless Creatures [9.5/10]

Again, a masterpiece made by Andrew Bird. It’s balanced, beautiful and unique. It’s pop, folk, it’s wonderful. I only miss the electric guitar a bit. Still, great lyrics, interesting, wonderful compositions and vocally pretty strong. Useless Creatures is the best instrumental CD I’ve ever heard, might have even listened more to that one than to Noble Beast. Simply beautiful. 

St. Vincent – Actor [9/10] [review]
Annie Clark manages to float above her instrumental chaos. Or at least, it looks like that. Her compositions are actually well made. Vocally, Clark is really strong. It’s a pretty unique CD that you’ll love or you’ll hate. I love it. (read the review I did) 

Jesca Hoop – Hunting My Dress [8.8/10]
To me, she’s live even stronger. Hoop mixes various styles and makes them her own. Great guitar work, great vocals. It might sound weird during your first listen, but it will grow. Especially ‘Murder of Birds’ is a wonderful track.

 
A.A. Bondy – When The Devil’s Loose[review]
I know I didn’t give A.A. Bondy such a high mark in my review. But the album did really grow on me. One of the best folk albums made this year. I listen to it a lot lately, so points for that! 
 

The Avett Brothers – I and Love and You [8/10]
This album is really a ‘grower’, after a while you like it more and more. The Avett Brothers sound really ‘natural’. It might not really be my genre of music, but I love this album. Titletrack ‘I and Love and You’ is a rare song, it’s extremely beautiful. You might have to get used to the(ir) voice(s), but it’s worth it. Overall a very nice album.

The Whitest Boy Alive – Rules[7.5/10]
Simple funky and happy. Don’t expect any musical obscurity from these guys. Erlend Øye got a great voice, some great lyrics and made some great music on this album. Strong bass lines, percussion and light guitar work. But after a while, it get’s a bit repetitive. Still a very nice album, best song to me is ‘1517′. 

Laura Gibson – Beasts of Seasons[7.5/10]
Dreamy folk songs. Gibson got a great voice. This album stands out for it’s simplicety. Her songs are pretty vocally driven, with often some light guitar work underneath it. But also you hear some piano notes every now and then. The perfect album for a sunny autumn day. 

Grizzly Bear – Veckatimest[7/10]
Pretty interesting album, on moments to difficult for me to understand maybe. There are some ‘killer-tracks’ on it, but overall it’s just a pretty solid, nice, album that isn’t really my cup of tea at moments 

Regina Spektor – Far [7/10]
Not as strong as ‘Begin to Hope’, but again a very good album. Spektor goes from weird classical stuff to pop, not being afraid of sounding ’silly’. Vocally strong, but you have to love her voice. No complains about her instrumental stuff, but it’s not really ‘new’. (Best tracks of the album are ‘Laughing With’ and ‘Folding Chair’, these are perfect songs)

Wilco - Wilco(the album) [7/10]
Wilco delivered another good album. Still, it can’t beat Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but it’s a good try. It’s again the typical Wilco sound(that isn’t really my sound). But it’s a strong, balanced album. 

Franz Ferdinand – Tonight[6.5/10]
Surprising new album from Franz Ferdinand. They changed their sound a bit, having more electronics in it. It’s still not difficult to dance on. They didn’t lose their Franz sound. Points for that. 

Albums that I didn’t like that much, but were pretty great anyway:
Soap&Skin – Lovetune for Vacuum
It’s too dark and obscure for me. It feels pretty creepy. But still, pretty good. (yeah, I don’t know much more to say about this one)

Zee Avi – Zee Avi
Too light and too bubbly for me. Pretty good debut album from this singer-songwriter. She mixes light, bubbly pop with a bit of jazz. Think Jack Johnson if he was a girl and used a ukulele more.

Portugal. The Man – The Satanic Satanist
Good album, but I think it’s too ‘heavy’ for me. Though, I do like the poppy ‘Work All Day’, ‘People Say’ and ‘The Sun’. Recommended for everyone who’s ears can handle more noise than mine.

Great Lake Swimmers – Lost Channels [review]
A more upbeat album from Tony Dekker and company. It does work out, but I like their slow, acoustic stuff more. Still a great album if you like them and do like songs such as ‘Your Rocky Spine’.

M. Ward – Hold Time
For all M. Ward lovers: Hold Time is a typical M. Ward album. His strongest point is his voice, and he uses is good. To me, M. Ward is a bit boring, there’s not much happening in his music. But that’s the only critic I can think of, so I guess it’s a nice album.

Alexi Murdoch – Time Without Consequence
The album kicks of great. I first thought that this would be a great album. But in the end, the songs are too long. Because of that, this album will sound repetive. Bad, it could have been much better.

This kept running through my feverish swine-flu brain a couple of weeks ago and am just getting ready to post about it.

Having been vaccinated against Type B flu in September, I came down with the flu and it literally hit each tick mark on my doctor’s list (via phone, she didn’t want me coming in for my sake and theirs), although I did not get the nasal swabbing, I was told, “Yeah. This is pretty much H1N1.”

I won’t detail all the symptoms but the biggest were dizziness (running into door frames), hallucinations (pretty!), high fever (which was uncontrollable…AND lasted over a week) and gastro-intestinal distress that I’m still not quite right after having at a hard-core level for 10 days. Now, it’s sporadic. The doctor told me to expect that my guts were so demolished that they’re not going to be for a while.

During the worst of it (flat on my back for 6 days and then if I weren’t single-income, should probably have stayed been at home another 4 days), about the only thing I could “eat” that wouldn’t cause more harm and seemed to always sit right was: Shakeology.

Yeah, my super-expensive-must-be-made-of-gold supplement.

Anyway, it sustained me. I know for a fact that an IV of fluids would have done me no harm! I kept pushing water because fevers that high and with trots are a “winning” death-by-dehydration combo.

Shakeology is so frigging expensive but I’m sold. I’m now three months into buying it/ -ahem, on my income? It’s over $100/ month! I still only mix it with water or a little soy milk — mostly just water. It’s a nutritional supplement, not a dessert. I’ve written about it before but I’m too lazy to go back and check if I said this. Before purchasing the first time, I ran it by my naturopath friend and her “report” was that she had never used it but from reading the label, it seemed like a good supplement and an excellent meal replacement (nutritionally speaking) and she’s VEGAN: very picking about stuff that claims it’s healthy. She’s the expert at a large health food chain, so…I trust her.

If you’re thinking about it, get all the facts and run it by your doctor or nutritionist. While I’m a farmgirl who likes the idea of EATING real foods for nutrition, I can’t cut this Shakeology stuff. It’s decent and helped me when I could NOT eat.

Will Maria Buncamper-Molanus be a part of the DP slate in January?

 Those who follow St Maarten politics know, that it’s been a rough year for both Maria and the DP. Louis Laveist gets “caught up”, and now his future and his freedom, is very much uncertain. Theo defected to ”The Dark Side”, according to some DP loyalists, then Sarah and Maria allegedly, supposedly had a shoving match in front of  the Government Building. I don’t know anything about the shoving match, but I do know that in St Maarten it only takes three people to repeat a rumor or  a lie to make it a bonafide fact. The one common denominator, it appears in this whole DP fiasco has been the beautiful, the poised…..Maria Buncamper-Molanus.

All politicians realize that they will get their “licks” in the public arena, and most are very thick skinned, but it must sting twice as much, when the bulk of the criticism seems to be coming from withing the Democratic Party itself, her friends, allies and co-workers.

I’ve met  Maria a few times, I don’t know her very well. She’s kind of a cross between Scarlett O’hara and Sarah Palin- Really! 

Could St Maarten possibly have it’s own Sarah Palin? An attractive, well dressed but polarizing figure, who always seems to have the innate ability, to bring out the worst in those around her. I attended a couple of the DP rallys, Maria B.M. and the rest of the DP team were there. Maria was there, meticulously put together, fervidly cheering on Sarah,  Julian and the rest of the senior DP members, after their speeches.

I did have to wonder how much of it was just a political show.

I do believe that the romance has died between the Democratic Party and Maria Buncamper-Molanus, but the Democratic Party might have to suck it up, if they want to survive January’s  federal election.

Would Maria dare go rogue on Sarah? As a politico I would love to see that, but then again I’m a drama junkie. Maria going rogue would only damage the DP and Maria B.M.’s brand.

My solution for Sarah, Maria and the rest of the DP boys, would be to take a few method acting classes, practice your fake smile religiously, and come to the realization that you might not be able to stand each other, but you will have to put up a united front for your supporters as well as your detractors.

Every year it’s part of my job at PlayNetwork to come up with a list of top albums and overall assessment of music trends for the year. Below is my brief review of what I felt was a pretty landmark year for electronic music in the US and in general. Barring any incredible releases over the next month, these are my picks for the year. Keep in mind this list is strictly made up of albums; not EPs, 12’s or remixes (i.e 95% of the electronic music I purchased this year).

2009 in Review : Binary Pop, Warp’s Legacy, Dub Mutations and the Return of Sexy Dance Music

2009 has been an incredibly innovative year in relation to music production. Artists like Animal Collective, Fever Ray, Royksopp and Moderat have proven once and for all that digital beats and electronic sound design can appeal to a pop audience that otherwise wouldn’t find themselves listening to “electronic music”.

This year also marks the 20 year anniversary of the greatest electronic music label (arguably greatest label) of all time, Warp Records, which has had an exceptional year across the board with strong indie releases from Grizzly Bear and Maximo Park as well as strong releases from their more obscure electronic artists like Tim Exile and Clark. Warp’s 20th anniversary box set is not only one of the best reviewed collections of they year, it’s also a brilliant testament to the label’s vast catalog of ground breaking artists (i.e. Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Jamie Lidell, Nightmares on Wax, Prefuse 73, Autechre, Broadcast, Plaid, Battles, Squarepusher, etc).

In addition, 2009 witnessed the rise of Dubstep as a respected genre in the US through acclaimed UK labels like Hyperdub (Burial, Kode9, Joker, Zomby, Flying Lotus) and Tectonic (2562, Martyn, DJ Pinch, Benga) both of whom continue to blur the boundaries between Grime, Dub, West Coast Hip Hop and Detroit Techno. With the avid support of tastemakers like BBC Radio 1’s Mary Anne Hobbs and Low End Theory’s Daddy Kev (Alpha Pup Records) UK Dubstep and West Coast Glitch Hop / Hip Hop have both become quintessential styles on the electronic music frontline in the US. From Burning Man to this year’s Movement festival in Detroit, Dubstep and Glitch Hop have fully emerged in 2009 as a staple sound in North America.

Another emerging trend has been the Deep House and Tech House revival, which has been experiencing a resurgence the past few years as club-goers have tired of the heady, sterility of Minimal Techno and the frenetic, over the top sound of Electro House. Artists like Gui Boratto, Voodeux, Pezzner, Milton Jackson, Stimming, Mode D, Catz n Dogz, DJ T and Dixon have all helped in keeping underground dance music both sexy and musical.

Overall 2009 has been a phenomenal year for technologically driven music, proving that creativity is truly catching up with the tools used for musical expression in the digital age.

Thanksgiving must be in the air, because this month of November has been a  cornucopia of riches for those of you out there, unlike myself, that enjoy watching leaked sex tapes of famous or soon to be famous people.

 Shauna, of course, is speaking from experience, as her former boyfriend released her sex tape, on the eve of ex-husband Lorenzo Lamas and current family had premiered their own reality T.V. program on a major cable network. Shauna has offered to sit down with her over ‘tea’ so she could consult her one on one, sex tape producer to sex tape producer. 

Let’s see what Carrie decides to do…take the devils money, or cash in and blaze new trials as a christian porno actress. Today, singing star, actress, and all around sex goddess, Carmen Electra stepped up to the plate and has leaked her own private porno sex tape, but hers is not a solo affair. 

 What it does mean is that the search for it will on the internet will make her the queen of internet searches for a few days, which should help promote the sale of her upcoming movie or book release. Electra, 37, can be seen wearing nothing but black high heels, stockings, panties, a red bra and a diamond-studded choker in a new short posted on website NucleonForce.com.

The most interesting one out of any leaked sex tape that I have been forced to review as a ‘journalist’ comes from newcomers Miss Japan 2008 Miroko Mima and Miss Trinidad & Tobago Anya Ayoung-Chee who both met and competed in the 2008 Miss Universe pageant with Carrie Prejean. 

Do not be too curious, because why mess up a good gig over some prurient entertainment, unless of course, your job is to report on such news for a blog or other legitimate news reporting services.

I predict the two of them will be famous, but that Miss Trinidad and Tobago is flat-out beautiful. She will have an extensive career in front of the cameras, so do not be mad at her.

 I give this one 15 stars out of 10, and the leaked tape speaks for itself.

 It is being reported that the action was stolen off of her Miss Trinidad’s former boyfriend’s laptop, when he left it at a computer repair shop. That sounds to me like a lie, because we all know that most people delete their porn from their desktop before leaving it at a repair shop,….at least I do.

 I am obviously joking here with all of this, but it is amazing to me that there are so many high-profile people out there that film themselves having illicit sex. Carrie Prejean claims that she just wanted to give her boyfriend a gift, and I have heard that before many times from young girls.

I know when I bring gifts to an intimate female companion, I better show up with some flowers and merchandise if I plan on coming back. A sex tape will not cut it for the women I know, …but it would be great for them to make one and give it to me.

 I just would not be in it. Unfortunetly this does send out the wrong message to all the little girls out there that want to become celebrities. It seems as though that a ‘leaked’ sex tape is going to be mandatory for  young lady to rise to fame and popularity in today’s culture.

The viral nature of just such an exhibition has worked wonders for many of todays starlets and that might be a double-edged sword. 

I expect a lot of self righteous declarations of piousness to be espoused in reaction to this sexual exploitation in our culture, and I discourage any of my relatives to go down this path,so I do not have to be exposed to it.

 But, the reality of it is, is that it is not illegal if the parties are of age and consenting adults, it’s just inadvisable.

 I recommend a bit of discretion, but I do understand the pressure that we in Hollywood put on the female stars to stay relevant, and to be noticed.

If you are related to me, I suggest you make something eles for your boyfriend…

 Proceed with caution….as I call to book my one way ticket to Trinidad and Tobago with a layover in Japan!!!

It’s not the first time Annie teams up with a tour mate, think John Vanderslice and Andrew Bird(but it’s not a rare thing for Bird too). The two played a guitar only version of ‘The Party’ from St. Vincent’s latest album ‘Actor’.

Witam wszystkich!

W końcu udało mi się znaleźć odpowiednią ilość czasu na podzielenie się znalezionymi informacjami. Część z nich została już przedstawiona przez kolegów z innych zespołów, zarówno w treści wpisów na blogach, jak i w komentarzach do nich. Odsyłam zatem szczególnie do wypowiedzi  Piotra Ciecierskiego z zespołu zajmującego się sieciami optycznymi oraz Rafała Żukowskiego z grupy pracującej nad radiowymi sieciami NGN.

Ja natomiast chciałbym przywołać kilka przykładów migracji stacjonarnych sieci telekomunikacyjnych do sieci NGN. Pokrótce opiszę jak te procesy wyglądały w Wielkiej Brytanii, Chinach i Słowacji.

Na początek Wielka Brytania.

W 2004 r operator narodowy, BT, ogłosił plan migracji w kierunku sieci konwergentnej. Nową sieć nazwał siecią 21. wieku. Plan obejmował zbudowanie sieci NGN, przez zastępowanie sieci szkieletowej PSTN siecią IP opartą na architekturze systemu IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) w ciągu sześciu lat. Plan BT przewidywał budowę sieci IP/MPLS, konsolidację istniejącej infrastruktury NGN oraz rozbudowę węzłów MSANs (Multi Service Access Nodes) w celu świadczenia usług szerokopasmowych. Do końca 2005 r. szerokopasmowa sieć BT była w stanie obsługiwać 99,6% swoich abonentów [1]. Węzły MSANs obsługują także abonentów usług POTS (Plain Old Telephone Services), bez konieczności specjalnych modyfikacji wyposażeń w dostępie abonenckim. Operator BT przewidywał,  że do 2008 r. ponad 50% abonentów PSTN zostanie przeniesionych do sieci NGN. Czy się udało ? – tego niestety nie wiem. Może ktoś z Was posiada takie informacje ?

W 1998 r.  w tym kraju było 87,4 mln łączy abonenckich,  a w 2004 r. 299 mln!! [1] Mimo, że przyrost sieci szerokopasmowej wynosił 200% w skali roku, to w 2008 r. zaledwie 11% abonentów mieszkaniowych miało szerokopasmowy dostęp do Internetu. Podstawowym czynnikiem zmuszającym do modernizacji sieci w Chinach nie był na pewno wiek infrastruktury (10-15lat), a raczej  wzrost ekonomiczny kraju oraz wzrost potrzeb użytkowników, które spowodowały ‘wzrost ruchu’ w sieci. Z tego powodu China Telecom rozpoczął budowę sieci nakładkowej NGN.  ”W czerwcu 2003 r. operator Shanghai Telecom, będący filią operatora China Telecom, podpisał z firmą Alcatel kontrakt na metropolitalną sieć NGN. Kontrakt dotyczył instalacji w sieci miejskiej Szanghaju urządzenia softswitch, bram typu Media Gateway oraz urządzeń typu Litespan Multi-Service Access Gateways, zapewniających integrację głosu, danych oraz innych mediów opartych na bazie technologii ADSL i Ethernetu.”[1]

Będąca w bardzo złym stanie na początku lat 90tych XXw infrastruktura telekomunikacyjna Słowacji, była remontowana fragmentami z użyciem kabli światłowodowych, systemów SDH (transport) i central cyfrowych (komutacja). Do 2000 r. ponad 70% sieci PSTN było już siecią cyfrową.  Nie modernizowano jednak infrastruktury sieci na terenach wiejskich, mimo, że składała się z central elektromechanicznych. W takiej sytuacji duże problemy stwarzało zapewnienie odpowiedniej jakościpołączeń wychodzących. Tym bardziej, że “jeszcze w 2000 r. na 100 połączeń przypadało 28 błędnych”[1]. W 2004 r.  Slovak Telekom, bedący już praktycznie częścią Deutsche Telecom,  zawarł kontrakt z Alcatelem na zastąpienie fragmentów analogowych siecią następnej generacji! Tak! ST zdecydował się stworzyć infrastrukturę sieci NGN na terenach wiejskich! W ramach tego kontraktu zastąpiono 309 małych central analogowych, obsługujących w sumie 211 000 abonentów, jednym urządzeniem typu Alcatel 5020 softswitch [1]. Pominięcie etapu cyfrowej sieci PSTN pozwoliło zminimalizować długoterminowe koszty rozbudowy sieci.

I was always taught by my parents to respect my elders, and I do not think that is too much to ask.Larry King is obviously an elder, and throughout his illustrious career as a broadcaster, he has earned the respect of his peers, and has developed millions of fans in the process.

Larry King wrote the book on interviewing celebrities, and as old as he is, he still attracts legions of young followers.

On Wednesday, our favorite gay bashing solo sex starring Christian advocate for morality,ex-Miss California Carrie Prejean, willingly accepted an invitation to be a guest on his show, so that he could interview her about her latest newsworthy scandal, and to promote her book on how she has been victimized in the media, simply because her Christianity demands of her to hate gay Americans, which to her,and her delusional misguided Christian financial supporters, is a noble cause.

A local minister, Miles Mcpherson of The Rock church in San Diego, http://therocksandiego.org/, has been a high profile and visible cheerleader for this disturbed young woman, and he needs to cut his losses immediatley. The reality of Prejean and their relationship is a cautionary tale of bad intentions against humanity coming back to bite you.

She has absolutely no credibility as a Christian, and she clearly just wants to get paid.McPherson has foolishly sided with a devil, because his personal hatred for gay people, overshadows his duty to his parishoners to do a simple background check,and vet this person that he has put in front of the world as a representative of good traditional  God-like Christian values and morality.

I say he has a good excuse,because back in the day, he was a cocaine addict, and that drug has been proven to destroy brain cells, and they do not regenerate. Hopefully he has left all that behind him, but this is confusing.

His thousands of followers and fans of his brand of christianity, that professes hatred of people that do not share his religous edicts, and has solidly backed this train wreck of a beauty queen, should demand a fair and public accounting of any of his church financial assests that have been squandered on this lying sex star.

TMZ.com is reporting today, that the ex-boyfriend of Carrie Prejean, who she allegedly gifted him with her masterbation text download,has come out to tell the world that he was asked by her to lie about her actual age that she was, when she made the XXX video.

Some failed Christians have attempted to halt the distribution of the sex scene by constructing a lie about Carrie’s age at the time, which they say was 17, to make it a crime to view it, because she was underage when she produced it.

Some even have alluded to me that if I did get an opportunity to see it, then I could be brought up on charges that are reprehensible.

Shame on them, beause that was another lie that Carrie got over on you.Their motivation is not to advance Christian morality via Carrie, but it is to save face, and to cover-up their hipocrasy.She was a legal adult when the tape was produced.

On the Larry King show, she got all upset when Larry asked her why she settled her case for no money against the Pageant organization.

She answered Larry by telling him it was an innapropriate question, and then she took her mike off, and began scolding Larry.

She must have known that she is not worthy of being on any show, unless we can talk about the sex tape.Notice she had no problem bashing gay people, but,….when it came to her sexual preference, she was having no part of it.

I applaud Larry for his in depth reporting, and his unwilligness to have her control what questions he asked her. He would immediatley loose credibility with his audience if he did not ask the newsworthy questions.

My question to Miles and all the rest of you fake false Christians…at what point do you repent for your sin of unleashing this nutjob on the world.

I know she is cute, but isn’t your credibility with the Christian crowd destroyed, because it certainly should be, if all things in life were fair and equal.

Being fair and equal with all people in our world, including all of my gay friends and yours, is the last Christian value you are interested in following.
