Thus, it’s The Day After. To put it kindly, last night’s “performance” wasn’t visiting evoke a standing ovation, if you know what I mean.

Oh sure, she was pretty nice concerning the whole issue, however if she calls you back, it will be to work out if she left her cell phone in your automobile, not to request an encore.
Buy Viagra Online USA
Oh positive, everything is operating just fine now.

However how does a fellow guarantee that he’ll be able to rise to the occasion when things demands?

The solution is easy – Viagra.
Okay, currently we’ve answered the first question. Now we have a tendency to’ve got a new conundrum.

We tend to need to know where to buy Viagra online. The obvious answer is to go see your family gp. Surely your regular physician can be happy to write you a prescription for the magic blue pill.

But, since you’ll in all probability be seeing the local sawbones again, you may not want him to grasp that you just’re running for the shelter of Pfizer’s little helper. Thus, the “legit” route is out. That leaves us with the more adventurous avenues of the World Wide Web.
Buy Viagra Online USA
Simply checking the spam filter on any email program can cause you to believe that there are approximately 1,487 “safe, reliable, and 100% legitimate” brokers of medication, just sitting by their computers ready to ship you the little blue pills just as soon as you send them your credit card number.

Since you are able to browse this text, we tend to can safely assume you’re smart enough not to retort to any of these emails. The only thing that will get larger in a very hurry as a result of answering any of these notes is your mastercard balance.
A fast Google of the term “Viagra” (As a result of a quick Google is what we were once in the primary place, right?) turns up exactly 80,300,000 websites. I don’t grasp regarding you, however if I’m on the Net wanting for a pill to assist place a rocket in my pocket, I’m not willing to surf eighty million websites to seek out it. I need to understand where to shop for Viagra online, and I want to know now.

The first set of internet sites we have a tendency to will eliminate is the set that has the words “safe” or “real” within the title. Experience tells you that any site that feels the need to post in huge red letters that it is SAFE is in all probability not. Any “pills” garnered from these sites could indeed cause your naughty elements to grow – and flip green. Within the medical profession, this can be called – pardon the technical term – “swelling.” Another name for it would possibly be “infection.” Buying medication here will seemingly necessitate buying a lot of drugs from somewhere else.
If we eliminate all of the purely informational sites, such as Wikipedia and HowStuffWorks (if it worked, I wouldn’t want to buy Viagra online), we’re left with two sorts of sites. One type to avoid and one sort that can take usa where we need to go.
The sort to avoid typically contains the phrases “Rock” “Stiff” “Bone” or “Quick” within the title. Once more – quick isn’t imagined to be half of the deal. There is a subcategory of websites here that are based in Canada, Mexico, or alternative Central American countries. It’s a smart idea to avoid buying medicine from places where the equivalent of the Food and Drug Administration is a male who feeds things to a burro, a moose, or Michael Myers and then watches to work out if something dies or merely falls asleep.
If you won’t go see your family physician, which remains the safest, smartest issue to try and do, the subsequent best bet is to go to one in every of the websites that requires you to send your medical history to a physician for review. Upon that review, a physician will approve you for a prescription, and the net chemist can fill the prescription and send you your medication.
There are some things to look for so as to verify the legitimacy of these websites. Initial, the drugs can be shipped from inside the Usa, and also the Pfizer emblem can seem somewhere on the website. This guarantees that you are receiving the important drugs. The gp who grants the prescription should really need you to send your medical records. Short of an actual physical examination, this is often the closest factor to a legitimate medical procedure possible previous to dispensing drugs. Third, the website ought to provide secure transactions. This means any page where you enter mastercard or personal information ought to have an “https” protocol at the beginning of the net address. This can be commonplace for secure transactions over the Internet.
Thus, the following time your “get on my feet and go” has up and went, you’ll be ready for a very little chemical reinforcement. Simply remember, within the event of an erection lasting additional than four hours – create

Overall, I think this movie was definitely worth watching! I mean, it was the first time I sat through the closing credits. Plus, when the movie ended everyone gave the movie a standing ovation. It was fantastic! I love Michael Jackson. I think I’ve said that too much already. Hahahah.

Political speeches weren’t always about vocal audience reaction and applause. Now, however, one of the main ways that we show our appreciation and approval is with applause. Speeches are written with deliberate pauses to give the audience the opportunity to applaud partway along.

President Obama can hardly finish a sentence without the crowd breaking into applause. He can’t even blow his nose in public without being applauded for it. In fact, we often measure the success of a speaker by the round of applause that they receive at the end of their speech. The media jumps on it because it is such a tangible indicator of how the audience feels.

Applause is visible in other areas of life as well. When there’s turbulence in the air and the pilot of a plane manages to land it safely, the passengers will show their gratitude with applause. For long-anticipated movies, the hype that surrounds the film often leads to applause at the end of it (though this usually pertains only to opening-night showings at a movie theatre). Applause at the end of a stage theatre production is always expected, so to show even more appreciation, people do a standing ovation for the actors bowing on stage. Even this, however, has become increasingly more common, because of our habit of applauding over minute events.

One of the problems with applause is that it is used so frequently. The meaning of it has changed. It is expected; it is almost mandatory. In our society, if there is no applause, then something has gone seriously wrong with the rhetorician’s speech or performance. Sometimes, for example if an actor on stage forgets their lines, the audience sympathizes so much with the humiliation that the actor must be feeling that they applaud even louder to compensate. Thus it loses its “rewarding” aspect.

Applause is loud and easy to do. All it takes is the simple act of pressing one’s hands together with some measure of force and speed (though even a considerable amount of force and speed are not necessary, especially if there is a very large crowd of people). It’s a way for the audience to give back to the performer: applause signals agreements and support. It is interesting, then, to consider why we applaud when the performer clearly cannot see or hear us, such as in the movie theatre. In this case, we are not applauding for the performer. Instead, we are either applauding to assert our own position so that others can see what we think of the performance, or we applaud to show that we are a part of the appreciative group, when everyone around us is applauding.

It is rare that we will be in a group of people with everyone else applauding and we are not. The pressure causes us to start clapping, too. If we don’t clap, everyone wonders why we are not appreciating the same thing that they are. Because of this, applause is also an automatic response of our society. It is a way to identify with the group so that we are not separated from our peers. Applauding, and a lack of applause, are both measures of our values and identities as individuals and as a group.

Who has the longest standing ovation in the world?

80 minute standing ovation was the longest standing ovation that was ever recorded!
Imagine 101 curtain calls, 80 minutes of standing ovation and an encore after another solid!
That is exactly what the world famous tenor Placido Domingo took after his performance as the Moor of Venice in Othello in Vienna in July 1991 to 30, making him the longest standing ovations ever recorded!
Plácido Domingo on time:

“I do not know what to do, you know go out, and the audience is still there. And you say,” Well, what? “And you come back, and you get a bit more to come next time. And you say:” I hope they go. “No, they continue. But it was a great, great experience, very exciting.”

Plácido Domingo (born January 21, 1941) is a famous Spanish opera singer. Although he started his career as a baritone in zarzuelas, he retrained as a tenor and quickly became well known for a voice that was versatile, powerful and possessed of a sound and clear tone throughout its range, its repertoire includes roles in French (Faust, Weather), German (Lohengrin, Parsifal), Italian (IL Trivet, Don Carlo, Othello), and Russian (Pique Dame). In recent years, Domingo has turned also to work hand to perform. Also, he was appointed artistic director of two opera companies, primarily the Washington Opera and later the Los Angeles Opera.

A standing ovation is a form of applause when the audience members seated stand up while applauding. This is done on special occasions by an audience to show their approval is after extraordinary performances of particularly large Acclaim. In ancient Rome returning military commanders (such as Marcus Licinius Crassus’s defeat of Spartacus) whose victory has not quite fulfilled the requirements of a triumph, but were still worthy of praise were celebrated with cheers instead in ovo Latin, “I am”. Using the word in English to refer to sustained standing ovation data from at least 1831.
Standing ovations are considered to be a special honour. Often it is used at the entrance or departure of a speaker or performer, where the audience members will continue the ovation until the ovated person leaves or begins their speech. Usually, when a critical mass of a small fraction of the audience stands up (perhaps one-fifth), the entire audience becomes compelled to stand as well.
Do you think that this is a small standing ovation ?Will it be shorty outmatched buy other performers soon ?
YES / NO

CONVENTIONAL WISDOM

Change other’s minds

Debate

Compete

Prevail

Conventional views of influence: MY INFLUENCE

To be influential is to win over the minds, hearts, spirits, and effort of other people. Conventionally, our view of how to become influential is focused on developing out personal influence skills. Our emphasis is on persuading, convincing, advocationg, and winning the argument so we can get people on our side. While this approach to influencing others is effective, it is not the only approach – and very often not the best.

ABT INSIGHTS

Change your mind

Dialogue

Admire

Engage

ABT perspective on influence: OUR INFLUENCE

Forming robust networks pf committed relationships is the hallmark of ABT influence. With ABT, influence is mutual and reciprocal. With ABT you put the opinions, desires, interests, and passions of others on a par with your own. You make being influenced as important as being influential.

IT’S NOT JUST WHO YOU KNOW, IT’S HOW YOU KNOW THEM

You’ve often heard the adage “it’s who you know” that matters. Knowing the right people can certainly make a positive difference when it comes to getting into the best colleges or clubs, landing a plum job or a promotion, or scoring a good table at a hot restaurant. Having “good connections” does help make you more influential but it plays only a major role.

INFLUENCE IS A TWO-WAY STREET

Asset-Based Thinking helps you connect with “people in the know” more deeply and authentically. With ABT you embrace the fact that influence is a two-way street by acknowledging the assets you are giving and the assets you are getting in every interaction. This takes your ability to influence – your Influence Quotient - to a whole new level.

YOUR ABT INFLUENCE QUOTIENT

More people are drawn to you

You are drawn to more people

You recognize and celebrate others out loud

You persuade others and let others persuade you

Your relationships are mutually rewarding

Your “circle of influence” multiply

CIRCLE OF INFLUENCE

Expand them by making others the center of your attention:

With Asset-Based Thinking, you realize that how you know another person – how deeply, how respectfully, how truthfully – directly influences how they in turn know you. It spells the difference between fleeting attraction and loyal allegiance. With ABT you instinctively and inquisitively focus on others. You pay attention to how they “show up”. You probe and investigate the minds and hearts of everyone you encounter to get to know them for who they are.

LEAD WITH QUESTIONS, SEARCH FOR ASSETS:

What do they value? Believe in?

What are they thinking? Feeling?

What else do they want? Need? Aspire to?

What can I do to recognize them?

What can I offer them?

How can I serve them?

What can they offer to my cause?

Never doubt that a small band of committed citizens can changed the world. It’s the only thing that ever has.

MARGARET MEAD

MAKE ” EYE” – TO – “I” CONTACT

Among the tribes of Northern Natal in South Africa, there is a customary exchange when two peoples pass each other casually on the street:

Greeting – Sawu bona (“I am seen”)

Response - Sikhona (“I am here”)

The simple exchange reflects a profound truth: a person must be “seen” (acknowledged) to be fully present to another. When you truly see with your eyes the “I” of someone’s essence, that person feels valued.

Think of how often you interact with people and never actually look at them. At the dry cleaners, in the coffee shop, passing in the hallway – encounters are fleeting and people go unnoticed. You can, however, use these brief interactions as “practice fields” to hone your ABT skills for those situations that matter most.

Next time, really see the person

Why no benefit from the Natal Tradition of acknowledgement as a more powerful genuine way of greeting that person? Notice what the person is wearing, facial features, expressions, and mannerisms that are attractive and special. Allow yourself to be interested and curious about what there is to like or admire.

Stay open. Go beyond contact to “I” connection.

Recognition is the greatest motivator

GERARD C. EAKEDALE

Turn off the multitasking switch. Be Present

This isn’t easy in today’s world of 24-7 connectivity, text messaging, and Blackberry addictions. When you approach even a casual conversation with the intention of making an “Eye-toI” connection, the other person will almost always reciprocate. Mirroring the level of connection and interest offered is a natural human tendency. This is a basic, hard-wired asset you can count on.

Recent findins in social neuroscience reveal that face-to-face, eye-to-eye connections form a kind of physiological closed feedback loop.

When two people make meaningful, sustained eye contact during a conversation, the neural networks in the occipital frontal cortex (OFC) if each person’s brain begin to fire in synchrony. This is the neuro-physiological equivalent of having a rapport with and genuinely feeling connected to someone. In fact scientists have dubbed the neurons that mimic onr another “mirror neurons.” Your ability to influence increases exponentially when your brain physiology is in sync with another’s.

Socially intelligent leadership starts with being fully present and getting in sync. Once a leader is engaged the full panoply of social intelligence can come into play.

DANIEL GOLEMAN

LISTEN SOFTER

You have most likely heard the statement “Listen harder“. Teachers, parents, coaches, and mentors say this when they want you to pay closer attention and take a message in. You probably say it to yourself sometimes as a wayof focusing and blocking distraction. “Listening harder” implies narrowing your focus into an almost laser-like beam that zeros in on what a person is saying.

A more rewarding form of listening is to “Listen softer.” Soft listening implies showering your attention on someone in a way that illumincates the deeper significance of what is being said. To listen softer you must widen the lens of what catches your attention by listening with your eyes and heart. By listening softer the distance between listener and speaker fades. The soft listener’s awareness dissolves into the other person’s presence and you both hear and feel more.

Be a quick change artist:

In the award-winning off-Broadway play “No Child,” actress Nilaja Sun plays the part of many diverse characters: the school principal, teachers, a janitor, and rebellious teenagers from a public school in the Bronx. Like magic, Sun becomes a pregnant Latina schoolgirl, then fades seamlessly into the 60-year-old arthitic African American janitor, Joe.

She emerges next as a frightened, Russian-immigrant subsittute teacher right before your eyes. For over two hours, Nilaja Sun performs a monologue montage of voices, bodies, and personalities so distict from one another that her feat of becoming each character seems impossible. In rare reviews, Sun is referred to as a “quick change artist.”

Sun does all this by “listening softer.” So softly that she is able to penetrate the heart, mind, body, and soul of each person she portrays. She transcends the boundaries between herself and the other by evaporating the distinctions.

She lets go of who she is in favor of embodying the other.

“No Child” is an amazing example of the degree of empathy that is possible between people when you truly open yourself up.

Feeling the pain, passion, delight, and moods of another creates mutually empathetic feelings of freedom and safety. Each person feels so seen, so known, that no inhibition or hiding is required. Both people show up in full fashion. Resistance evaporates and permission to influence emerges.

GIVE TRUTH THE UPPER HAND

Influence requires truth. Truth deepens and enhances your influence.

Whether circumstances are positive or negative, whether the news is good or bad, people want the truth from you. Truth is often relative. Your “truth” may be different from mine. Remember, the truth is synonymous with your integrity. Once spoken it is powerful and profound.

With truth you can change minds, win confidence, and move people to action. People crave hearing the truth and knowing exactly what they are facing. Truth is the foundation of trust between leaders and followers, husbands and wives, friends and coworkers. Trust founded on the truth means “You can believe me” and “I can believe you.”

Seek not greatness, but seek truth and you will find both

HORACE MANN

Give truth a voice

When you speak the truth about how you feel and what you think, others see you more clearly. The more transparent you are, the more trustwothy and influential you become.

Start by emphasizing the truth about what you admire, like, and value.

Expressing what is truly good is the foundation for truth telling. In fact, when you tell the truth by expressing your appreciation, or celebrating a success out loud, or recognizing outstanding achievements, people become more open and receptive to you. They bask in the glory of your praise. You build trust and your power to influence fastest when you start emphasizing the truth about what you admire, like, and value.

My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.

DESMOND TUTU

EARN A STANDING OVATION

Bill Strickland is the founder of a Philadelphia-based culinary arts program for delinquent, traunt teenage boys. And does he know how to influence an audience! Every time he speaks, he gets a standing ovation (followed by big donations of time and money for his cause).

Why is bill Strickland so moving and motivating? How does he atract and compel people to his mighty causes? His stature? Maybe. (Bill is 6′6″ tall and in great shape.) His story? Sure. (He quit his day job to found his school and reclaim the lives of boys who grew up in his old neighborhood.) His motivation? Absolutely. (He broke the cycle of crime, drugs, and poverty for younder generations.) His sense of humor? Of course. (Like any great entertainer, Bill makes sure that the audience laughs hard.) And, something else… along with the laughs, Bill also helps them feel sadness, pride, surprise.

Assets Exposed = Ovations

Bill’s assets – stature, motivation and sense of humor – are keys to his impact and his ability to get audiences on their feet. They are important , but not enough to command the kind of standing ovations that Bill always gets.

So how does he do it? Bill opens himself up and lets people see his mighty cause in action. His transparency taps into what everyone in the audience desires – to care enough and do enough to make a difference. The exuberance of seeing how bill pursues his mighty cause lights a fire in each member of the audience.

Desire to have impact runs deep

So deep that it is sometimes silent, even asleep, in most people who are living their busy lives. Bill Strickland wakes up that desire. Through Bill, the audience reconnects with their own personal passion to make a positive impact. They rise and applaud what Bill has touched in themselves. That’s right, they are giving themselves a standing ovation.

Standing ovations celebrate the possibilities

Follow Bill Strickland’s lead. Make what you say and do to advance your mighty cause awaken other people’s desire to join you. People long to operate in the domain of what is larger, bigger, more far-reaching than the confines of their everyday life and work. When you tap that deeper stream of desire in those you seek to influence, perople will join you, volunteer their effort, and invest themselves.

Nothing happens by itself. It will all come your way once you understand that you have to make it come your way, by your own exertions.

BEN STEIN

ADMIRE SOMEONE

What you admire in someone, you have in yourself. It may be only a glimmer, but it is there. In fact, when a person’s talent, virtue, skill, or attitude strikes you as amazing, you can be sure it’s something you want more of. When you embrace this truth you are ready, willing, and able to incorporate the admirable qualities of others into your repertoire of assets.

What you see is what you want to be.

That’s why it’s so important to be on the lookout for how others lead and build followings. How do they:

Show up

Influence

Make their impact

ABT helkps in two imprtant ways. First, it teaches how to scan for what is amazing, incredible and wothwhile about leaders from all walks of life:

The crossing guard

The teacher

The general

The chef

The mother

The conductor

The valedictorian

The rabbi or priest

The quarterback

The nurse

Next, perhaps most important, you learn how to blend and integrate those qualities in yourself. Your asset inventory then transforms, expands, and deepens.

I have never been especially impressed by the heroics of people who are convinced they are about to change the world. I am more awed by those who struggle to make one small difference after another.

What exactly is beautiful?! Glamour Magazine, one of the nation’s leading beauty and fashion magazines is in an uproar over the semi-nude pictures of plus size model Lizzie Miller in it’s newly dropped September issue. A “plus-size” model by modeling industry standards even though she is a size 12 – 14.

For this post, I am going to get on my soapbox. This is very personal to me since I am a beautiful plus-size woman. I have gone up and down in my weight all of my life, also doing some so-called plus size modeling in my 20’s at size 10 – 12!

With obesity rates for US females ranking us 8th in the world, I am well aware of this problem. Is this good news? Heck no! Many of us are trying to adopt new healthy eating habits and incorporate exercise into our daily lives to live long and productive lives. But the reality, which is my reality and most of the women in the US today is that we are not a size 0,2, 4, 6 or even 10. The average size of the American woman is a size 14 in this country!

What I am truly tired of is the constant barrage of thin, thin women being made this country’s beauty symbols through popular beauty publications, television, movies, internet and print advertising. Too many of our young women who are not these thin model like people are becoming self-loathing, habitual dieters, diet pill popping, some even becoming anorexic and bulimic in their desperate attempts to become these unrealistic symbols of beauty!

The outcry that has resulted from Glamour Magazine’s pictorial of Lizzie Miller is a standing ovation from average sized women around the country. They are thrilled to see someone that looks like them and is happy in her own skin! Beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder but I say that Beauty is how you see yourself!

I applaud Glamour magazine for their bravery in rocking the status quo. To read Glamour Magazine’s blog post regarding Lizzie Miller’s pictorial, click on “Glamour”.

In keeping with this topic, Rene’John Designs will be featuring a future blog category called “Botticelli Brides”. This is a specialty section for brides with curves. A pictorial spread of beautiful curvaceous woman who are proud of themselves, who they are at whatever size they my presently be. This section will provide on-line and local resources for the shapely “Botticelli Bride”. Watch for it and Enjoy Beauty! (That’s you)

Since the controversial arrest of the astute Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Sgt. James Cr

Since the controversial arrest of the astute Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates Jr., Sgt. James Crowley has made friends with the spotlight. In his latest stint with the lights, camera and action, Crowley received a standing ovation from thousands of police officers Monday when he made the opening speech of a five-day Fraternal Order of Police convention.

According to the Associate Press, more than police officers stood and applauded Crowley when he spoke at the Long Beach Convention Center. When he wrapped up his opening statements, his fellow officers stood and approached him for pictures as he left the stage.

“The past month has been very difficult for my family, my friends and my colleagues back in Cambridge, and it’s no exaggeration to say that it wouldn’t be as easy for me to handle this without the support from the Fraternal Order of Police … and the support that the men and women who do this job have given me,” he said. “Thank you very much.”

Crowley arrested Gates on July 16 after he responded to a call from a woman who reported what appeared to be two men forcing the front door open. Gates said the door was jammed and he and his driver had to shove the door open.

He was arrested for disorderly conduct after Crowley made claims that Gates raised his voice. Gates called the event a case of racial profiling and demanded a apology. The officer, however, said he was simply following protocol when he responded to Gates “tumultuous behavior.”

It seems Crowley has become a bit of a superstar amongst his police comrades, while he receives accolades for doing everything any other officer would have done, right?

Step aside Susan Boyle, you have been outclassed!

Meet Kari Callen!

Did you notice at about 45 seconds into the video where she says that the reason she is doing this is to “test the theory about her not being talented”?

She said in a sentence why high-performers act the way they do.

WHY?

To test the boundaries of possibility. To push high-performance even higher. To set a personal record. To master an impossible vision. To change the world in a way that others can only criticize.

Kari got two standing ovations for her performance and she probably deserved a third. You may not get a standing ovation for what you do…. ever. You may never get recognized for testing your theory. But you will know…

And knowing that within YOU is the ability to change the world is the first step in making a difference.

What theories do you need to test?

Andy Lau, Jay Chou, Jang Hak Woo are names of singers who ever made concerts in this large outdoor venue.

To ensure the safety of the audiences, the mobilized Chinese police reached 3,200 officers.

By this, TVXQ as Asia number one group was confirmed once again.

The sequence of ‘HEY!’, ‘Aknyeo’, and ‘Rising Sun’ opened TVXQ’s concert. All songs included in the 4th album and also hit numbers varies from ‘ HUG’, ‘ Balloon ‘ to members’ solo stage were performed.

In total of 26 songs done perfectly, it’s certain that no one could resist the charm of TVXQ’s ‘MIROTIC’ which is already spread around to the rest audiences in the world.

Furthermore, all Chinese fans joined the read sea which is the symbol color of TVXQ.

The members’ individual stage were the concert’s main attraction as each solo stage potrayed different color of each member.

Along the concert, the members showed enthusiastic actions which was responsed passionately by the audiences. How the members and audiences were breathing together to live up the concert, was a real good charm of the performance.

I am pissed. I am not going to lie, I am sitting with a VB stubbie on my mouse pad, my shoes kicked

I am pissed.

I am not going to lie, I am sitting with a VB stubbie on my mouse pad, my shoes kicked off under the desk and I am, in both senses of the word, pissed.

At an evening where I expected more debate and speculation about the controversial Australian Building and Construction Commission, and to quote a delegate, have demonstrated that Labor cabinet not to be ashamed of their union roots. I saw two standing ovations for Kevin Rudd, someone whom has been rather vague on his allegance to the Australian labour movement.

Further, a resolution was passed condemning the Government for maintaining the construction commission, which has the power to jail workers for six months for refusing to respond to questioning. The ACTU argues correctly, that the commission contravenes international labour conventions and ALP policy. Yet this evening people stood tall and clapped K Rudd.

Perhaps I wouldn’t be so sour were it not for a personal and self indulgent issue. On this personal and self serving note, I ran into a person whom I worked with closely who was so incredibly rude. I would have more restraint if this colorless, volatile liquid not circulating through my body. I was taking photos of the conference and noticed a man who was a close friend several years ago. I greeted him with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He was talking to a another unionist. In the company of a friend who was in the media, I waited to be spoken to. I was ignored for about 5 minutes, standing beside him waiting for him to address me. After backs were turned, after silence ensued, the exchange was short and superficial.

I remember a friend telling me, no longer with us, who said political friends are just that: friends during politics. He said that I had to get used to this. But it makes me angry. Surely people can deconstruct relationships to a point that what they like about you isn’t about party platforms, factions or numbers. I don’t befriend people based on utility. Even people whom I don’t hold great affection for receive respect, of which from him I was not in receipt.

I would not blog about this except I’m rather intoxicated, and it’s honest and what the hell, lay it down for the record. I’m disappointed.

The unionists of Australia stood clapping for a man who allowed the those in the construction industry with fewer rights than alleged criminals and, quote “did not belong in any democracy” Sharon Burrows said. But still we stand for K Rudd and the most vocal the crowd became was in watching the State of Origin between courses, in the midst of Queensland Gov agencies being privatised and jobs on the line.

Jeff Lawrence, ACTU sec, said the union movement needed to “be strong and independent of the Labor Government”, and it would continue to ” strongly prosecute its case on new national occupational health and safety laws and the building and construction commission”. Yet the evidence tonight was left to a one or two outliers in a crowd who yelled their opinions, overwhelmed by the servile complaisance or deference, or political positioning of so many of the attendees in the union movement.

Look, quite frankly I am in no state to publish this post, but I am goint o anyway. I’m annoyed by sycophants and by platitudes. The minister for industrial relations is given the delegated power and responsibility to deal with the industrial issues she clearly hasn’t dealth with. However our prime minister presides over this cabinet. I still have friends in the QNU, QTU, QIEU and ASU when the moment Kevin Rudd became prime minister knew that union relations with the Labor federal parliament and cabinet would be difficult. So difficult under Rudd.

They spoke about it to me privately and campaigned for him publicly, Labor is the closest to an ally the unionist movement will ever befriend. They were disappointed Beazely lost the leadership, knew he was the better union man. I expected this attitude to be echoed throughout the movement. I understand war room vs. conference floor. I just didn’t expect the public display of despondency verging on flattery.

That’s all.

“Songs are what I listen to, almost to the exlusion of everything else. I don’t listen

“Songs are what I listen to, almost to the exlusion of everything else. I don’t listen to classical music or jazz very often, and when people ask me what music I like, I find it difficult to reply, because they usually want names of people, and I can only give them song titles. And mostly all I have to say about these songs is that I love them and want to sing along to them.” Nick Hornby (Songbook)

So here’s the deal. Every once in a long while, someone I know says to me “Oh you don’t know that song? You HAVE TO listen to it. It’s AMAZING.” Or something like that. And you know what? I love that. I love that they are so into this song that they want to share it (and with me. ME! They must really like me or something. Yay! Anyway….). And I really DO want to hear the song, even if I end up thinking it’s mediocre or worse. I am really into sharing music with people. I think a lot of this comes from being a teenager in the 80’s when my friends and I would lay on the floor of my bedroom, listening to the radio, waiting for a song to come on so we could record it. Remember how annoying it was when the DJ would talk over the beginning of a song you were trying to record? Aaargh. Anyway, we were 13 years old and we’d record a bunch of OH MY GOD THE BEST SONGS and then we’d pretend we were the DJ’s and we were at some sort of party. We’d announce the song coming up (I always used a British accent, it added some edge), hit “play” and then we’d all dance around like . . . well, like a bunch of 13-year-old girls. That may be what Heaven is going to be like for me, it was THAT fun.

I told you about the song I Want It All by Ben Mallott a while back; maybe you liked it and maybe you didn’t (okay, I actually find it damn near impossible that you didn’t like it, but it does take all kinds in this crazy world). I thought every so often I might tell you about another song I think is great. Sooooooo, today I’m telling you about this song. At the risk of insulting some of you, I’ll let you know you need to click on the little sideways triangle next to “play this track.” It’s called “Little Pieces” by Gomez. I don’t know much about it except that when I hear it, I want to turn it up so it’s really LOUD and dance around. Which just happens to be my main requirement for liking and wanting to share a song. That or if a song makes me cry. Oh, also if I’m slowing down on a run and a song comes on that gets me really moving again, I’ll like that song, too.

There’s also one other little tidbit about Little Pieces that made me a fan, and BIG KUDOS to anyone who can tell me what that little factoid might be. Notice I didn’t say big prizes because as my dear friend Jenny knows (Hi Jenny), last time I promised a prize in the form of an extra iPod I wasn’t using anymore, I went to package it up and mail it to her and realized that it had gone kaput and was no longer working. I felt so badly that I almost went out and bought Jenny a brand new iPod. Almost but didn’t (sorry Jenny). SO I’m offering big kudos nowadays rather than prizes. I’ll even applaud you. I will stand up right here at my desk and applaud you if you can guess the tidbit. In fact you know what? I’ll do that for you even if you can’t because we all need someone to cheer and whistle and clap for us every once in a while, just for being a part of the human race. And who hasn’t always wanted a standing ovation?

It all started during one of our courses on Human behaviour in February 2009. We were supposed to ta

It all started during one of our courses on Human behaviour in February 2009. We were supposed to take up a project that we had never done in our lives and that which would be deemed “out of our comfort zones”. I wanted to take up some project that would bring satisfaction to me and that would also satisfy the project objectives.

Brief description of the project

My walkabout was to organize a one day event at an Old age home in Manila, Philippines. I arranged for snacks – biscuits, juice and sweets – for the aged people (called lolos and lolas in the local language – Tagalog) and arranged for some “fun” activities. The fun activities included karaoke, aiming the balls into the basket, reverse counting, making pyramid with playing cards, etc.

Some key-learnings from my visit:

Smile wins hearts:

It doesn’t matter who you are to greet someone, you win hearts by your smiles. You smile at them and they return you abundance of happiness. They are so pure at heart as they’ve come out of the bitterness of the life and its experiences. They have transformed to pure, innocent souls because years of experience have told them what matters most in life. So, I understood what life was all about in the day that I spent at the old age home. So, this applies in the corporate world too. Smile a lot at people. Make people feel happy and important, was the key take-away for me.

Know how to connect with people:

Although I do not know Tagalog, I knew that the lolos and lolas would relate more to the event, if I spoke atleast a few words in the local language. So, I wrote down words such as “Ano po ang pangalan nila?”, “Kumusta po kayo?”, “Magandang hapon po”, “Kumain na po ba sila?”, etc. When I asked these questions, the inmates became very happy. They even responded and questioned in return. Thus, I felt, during a conversation, try to gauge the easiest way to communicate information and make best use of it (corporate world).

Relationships bring happiness and not the materialistic pursuits:

The irony is that most of our time in life we run for materialistic things without focusing on relationships. But then, I realized that it is not money that drives everything. It is the relationships that take you till the end. As soon as I started talking with them, I was called as a ‘Church father’ and a ‘Church brother’. They imagined me to be some divine person who has come to help them all. They were so happy when I took photographs with them. Most of them had their relations’ photos beside them and I could see how they valued their loved ones.

I could see one common thing among all of them. Although I could not understand Tagalog much (the local language), I knew every person in that old age home had stories to share, their life challenges, successes and pains. Each one there is a wealth of information, encyclopaedias of life’s struggles who have seen and experienced both good and bad in life. They just expect a smile, respect and attachment from the world and not sympathy. They wanted me to visit them regularly. I was atleast said thus, thousands of times: “You are such a wonderful person. Hope you come back regularly”.

So, what did I learn from this: Relationships bring happiness and not material pursuits (always).

All’s well that ends well

At the end of all this, I had to present to the class on what I had done. I had made a video that saluted my parents for what I’m today. Suddenly, at the end of the presentation, I saw that some people were moved to tears and that I was getting a standing ovation. I had never got such a rousing applause or appreciation. I always thought that such standing ovations are for people like Sachin Tendulkar (after scoring a century), for great orators and others. I was really moved that people really understood the value of parents. I also felt satisfied that my trip not only taught me an important lesson – that parents are the most precious gifts on earth – but also taught my class mates.

A month later, my professor wrote in Manila edition of Business World. Here is an excerpt on what he said:

“Among the most applauded initiatives was that made by Satheesh Kailasam, who organized a day of fun and games for the elderly wards at Golden Acres home for the aged. Satheesh, 24, worked as a senior business analyst after obtaining an engineering degree. With a slim budget of two thousand pesos, Satheesh brought so much happiness and laughter to about a hundred lolos and lolas who are now living separately from their families.

Many of his classmates emerged with moist eyes after viewing a video clip of his day at Golden Acres. Yogesh Yoshi wrote: “When I reflected on this, I realized that no matter how well I succeed [later in life], my parents have been the ones who always supported and encouraged me. This presentation made me think [about] what is important to me in life — money, career, or people close to my heart? From now onward, I would definitely think on similar lines while setting priorities and making key decisions in my life.”
