“I’m dying. It’s hurting real bad.” That is what Albert Pujols had to say after his most recent outing in the DH spot for the Angels. He has been feeling discomfort in his left foot and the Angels have removed him from the field, but will allow him to play through the pain as long as he would like. I really don’t like this decision made by the Angels’ office as the man who you signed to a multi-million dollar deal just last year is injured, but you don’t see the need to let him take some time off to recuperate? I understand Pujols wants to be tough and continue to help the team (although their 7-10 record already isn’t the greatest with him in the lineup), but as a man currently going over the peak of your career to the downside, I wouldn’t want to risk further injury. Although much older than Pujols, Derek Jeter comes to mind as a man currently plagued by setbacks of injuries as he was initially supposed to be in the Yankees lineup on Opening Day, but is now out until at least the All Star break. I really hope the Angels and Pujols decide to put him on the DL as he still has a decade of good to decent years left in him.

Mark Reynolds

In the offseason, the Indians seemed to be signing complete strangers to contracts for the 2013 year, however, one man that has been a great success is Mark Reynolds. In the past years, he had been the man who would hit 30 homeruns, but be hovering around the Mendoza line and breaking his own and Adam Dunn’s strikeout records in a season. However, thus far this year, he has retained his power while also hitting for average. He is close to the lead in homeruns and RBI’s in the American League while hitting a very surprising 0.298 average. Obviously, he will not continue this throughout the season, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended the year batting around 0.250-0.260 rather than 0.200-0.210. In a lowly AL Central division, the Indians are definitely still in the race. They can have a decent season only if their pitching gets a little better: Ubaldo Jimenez returns to old form, Justin Masterson continues his early success and Brett Myers gets healthy.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Remember back when I was bashing the Pirates for having one of the worst offenses in the league? Well they’re still not the greatest, but they have definitely turned around winning 7 of 10 while sweeping the division leaders, the Reds, and taking 3 out of 4 from the NL-leading Braves. Originally, it seemed to only be McCutchen and Starling Marte who could even hit it out of the infield, but now the whole lineup seems to be producing at least something. Marte has been a solid player thus far this year and has really come into his own. He is doing a phenomenal job in that leadoff spot, but one area where I would like to see him improve is in baserunning. He is near tops in the league in leadoff hits, so imagine if he gets a hit and easily steals second. You already have a runner in scoring position and it’s only the second batter of the game. He is an athletic guy and I hope he can incorporate that into his game soon. Pedro Alvarez FINALLY hit his first homerun of the year and followed it up with a monstrous second launch that almost landed in the Allegheny River. I still think he is an atrocious player that will be a major liability for the Pirates in the years to come, as he strikes out way too many times and will hover around the Mendoza line. They have put way too much effort into him and it is time to sell him high while he still has some potential. Unfortunately, the Pirates will never do that. Their biggest success though has been their pitching as A.J. Burnett and Wandy Rodriguez have been nearly flawless with decent outings from James McDonald and Jeff Locke. Just imagine if Francisco Liriano makes a huge comeback from his injury and Gerritt Cole makes a big impact following his inevitable promotion. The Pirates can finally break their record long streak of losing seasons and take advantage of a possible weak decision.

IPL 6: Day 21–Gayle’s Day in record books & Harmeet Singh also won MOM…

Hi…

Double header on a Tuesday, Not many would want it, Unless they are willing to see the fireworks of Chris Gayle.

First Game, Had one name to be written, Just CHRIS GAYLE… One man literally played against 11 Pune players and won the game hands down. Records kept tumbling as Gayle kept swinging his bat (all those tumbled records are listed below). Ballistic Gayle went on to score 175 runs in 66 balls, which had 13 fours, 17 sixes & 18 dot balls. Other played the second fiddle around him, RCB ended with the highest T20 score 263/5 in 20 overs. PWI played their 20 overs trying to reduce their deficit of defeat, and ended up scoring 133 runs, leaving them just sort of 130 runs from the target. A point to note, Gayle also picked 2 wickets in the only over he bowled.

Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match by 130 runs…

Second Game, After having a Power packed, you can’t eclipse the effort of calypso, So it was always a dull game, where people relived the moments of glory of Chris Gayle and in between there was a match between Delhi & Punjab. Delhi batted first, back to square one as they were in the tournament till the last game, lost wickets to poor shots and poor batting efforts to sum Delhi’s score of 120 in good batting track. KXIP started off the chase in a flyer and kept the chase going even though wickets are falling every now & then. But in the end they chased it with 3 full overs to spare.

Kings XI Punjab won the match by 5 wickets with 18 balls to spare…

Interesting Stats IPL 6 Day 21:

- Records tumbled as Man from Caribbean took a big page on the record book, Read what all he has rewritten in the books of record.

· Fastest Individual Fifty in IPL scored in 17 balls.

· Fastest Individual Century scored in a T20 international scored in 30 balls, bettering 34 balls century of Andrew Symonds and for IPL it is 37 ball century by Yusuf pathan.

· Longest Six scored which went 119 meters bettering 112 meters also by Gayle.

· First player to hit 150 sixes in IPL tournament.

· Best Opening Partnership for IPL ever, 167 runs bettering 163 runs between Dwayne Smith & Sachin Tendulkar.

· Fastest Team Hundred in IPL history scored in 7.5 overs.

· Most sixes hit (17) by any batsmen in a T20 international, Previous best was by Graham Napier for Essex against Sussex hitting 16 sixes.

· 175 runs scored is the highest score in a T20 International by an individual batsmen, he bettered 158 runs by Bredon McCullum in IPL season 1 against RCB.

· Highest total in a T20 International game bettering 260 scored by Srilanka against Kenya, and 246 scored by CSK against RR in IPL career.

· Gayle is the only player to have scored four centuries in IPL career.

· Gayle is also the only player who has scored most runs in a ground, he has scored 1220 runs in Chinnaswamy Stadium Bangalore, bettering Hamilton Masakadza scored 1202 runs in Harare in T20s

· 192 runs scored in Boundaries & Sixes is the highest ever in a T20 international.

· 154 runs out of 175 scored by Gayle came of boundaries & Sixes

· 21 sixes scored by RCB is the highest ever by any team in an IPL game.

- Chris Gayle also scored the 800^th Boundary of this season.

- RCB have won all the 6 games played in Home ground till today for this season.

- 130 runs victory by RCB is the second largest in the IPL history, first is by RCB who lost the match by 140 runs against KKR in the first season.

- This is third game in IPL won with a margin more than 100 runs.

- Irfan Pathan became the second all rounder to score 1000 runs & to pick 50 wickets in his IPL career.

IPL 6: Day 20– Aggressive Hussey floors Watto power…

Hi…

A Game of D’s, Dhoni Vs Dravid, Mass Vs Class… Always a treat to watch this combination for any cricket lover and definitely for me too…Dravid won the Toss and decided to Bat first, A simple one liner was the royals batting, Just Watson show all the way, Showed no mercy to any bowler ad he hardly worried about what length or line they bowled, Sheer display of Watto Powerhouse which allowed him to go past first century mark in this season of IPL. Binny and other Rajasthan players played around him to get to a score of 185 runs in 20 overs.

Chasing 185+ is always tough for any team and if one team could do with ease then it has to be CSK with the kind of batting line up they have, Only problem for them is Raina & Badrinath have not come to form yet. But it gave an opportunity today to the Later to get back his golden knick with bat, who scored his first six in this season IPL & first fifty of this season. Raina also empowered Hussey all the way who looked aggressive right from the word go and always kept the required run rate under control. At one stage when Dravid pulled a stunning run out & wickets of Jadeja + Dhoni trickled a small confusion in the CSK dugout, but Bravo ensured to clear the ropes comfortably once in the last over to get past the win line in style with a ball to spare…

Chennai Super Kings won the match by 5 wickets with 1 ball to spare…

Interesting Stats IPL 6 Day 20:

- Shane Watson scored the first century of this season of IPL; it is also the 25^th century for IPL tournament in all seasons.

- Watson’s 101 runs over shined Shewag’s 95* for the highest score for this season.

- Shane Watson’s Century is also the fourth one for a Rajasthan Royal Player.

- Out of 7 innings Murali Vijay is out for a single digit in 4 of them.

- 58 runs scored by CSK in the powerplay overs is the highest for them in this season.

- This season has been made to wait longest to get the first century (30 matches), previous season was the slowest which took 18 matches.

- This is the first time Rajasthan Royals have lost a match when they have scored more than 162 runs, their record stands 15 – 0 till today, as now it will be rewritten as 15-1.

IPL 6: Day 19–Shewag & Miller deliver Killer Blows…

Hi..

Double Header Sunday, Two important games for four teams involved…

First Game, Delhi take on Mumbai, Later yet to register themselves in the point table, having lost 6 games in a trot, certainly needed a turn around, if they have any thought of Play offs. Mumbai won the toss and decided to bat first, another change in opening partnership where Dwayne Smith walked out with Sachin, but later failed to deliver, followed a straight drive from Sachin and tickle from Umesh to see Dinesh Karthik’s back as he was backing up too far. Both Rohit & Sachin up the antics to stick a partnership 96 runs between them and few lusty blows from Pollard ensured Mumbai scored 161 in 20 overs. Delhi came out with a piece of advise from the Calypso legend Viv Richards who has joined as the mentor. Oh… Man… Now the whole world want to know what Viv has said… Both Shewag & Jayawardene came out all guns blazing and smoked Mumbai Indians bowling and stitched the highest partnership for this season to win it all hands down with 18 balls to spare. Where was this Delhi hiding all this days….? Man from Caribbean came to woke up the tigers i guess…

Delhi Daredevils won the match by 9 wickets with 18 balls to spare…

Second Game, Where most would not be interested PWI Vs KXIP, all would have expected a low scoring affair and not a big game of cricket. But to all surprise came the highest scoring game of this season. For the first time this season Batsmen have called the shots and not the bowlers. For Pune it was Uthappa, Finch, Yuvaraj & Luke Wright who massacred the KXIP bowlers and scored 185 runs. Later KXIP in chase looked almost out when they lost Skipper Gilly & Azhar Mahmood in the space of 7 balls, leaving 5/2 in 1.1 overs. Manan Vohra came together with Mandeep Singh to get a fifty partnership before throwing his wicket away, But David Miller 80*(41) made sure his gritty knock doesn’t go vain as he and Mandeep Singh 77*(58) scored the winning runs in the penultimate ball to clinch a thriller…

Kings XI Punjab won the match by 7 wickets with 1 ball to spare…

Interesting Stats IPL 6 Day 19:

- Praveen Kumar bowled the 15^th Maiden of this season.

- Both Praveen Kumar & Bhuvaneshwar Kumar now has taken 3 wickets in their first over in this season.

- 34 runs scored by Luke Wright in 10 balls is the highest by any player in IPL, previous best was by Albie Morkel who scored 28* in 10 balls.

- This is third time both Uthappa & Finch has stitched together a fifty partnership, highest by any team so far in this season.

- Out of 7 matches Pune has played, 5 times they have gone past 40 runs in powerplay over including today.

- Aaron Finch scored the 200^th Six of this tournament.

- Sachin Tendulkar became the 24^th Batsmen to reach 100 runs in this season of IPL.

- Rohit Sharma acored the 700^th Boundary of this season.

- Rohit Sharma scored his 18^th IPL half century; Only Gambhir is ahead of him scoring 19 IPL fifties.

- David Miller scored his maiden IPL fifty, his previous highest score was 34 runs against Mumbai Indians.

- Virender Shewag also scored the highest score by any individual for this season scoring 95*(57) bettering Virat Kohli’s 93*(47) against Sunrisers.
