Fuck the Ducks.  I hate everything this team stands for.  And it’s not just because I am a die hard Los Angeles Kings fan.  I hate the fact that Disney thought, “hey you know what would be absolutely fantastic?  Let’s take the rag tag, pee wee hockey team from our hit movie The Mighty Ducks and turn that into a professional hockey team in the NHL!  And you know what else?  We don’t even have to change the logo, we can totally keep the same logo the kids used in the movie because professional atheletes will love wearing this logo on their chest:”

This team is a joke.  Always has been and always will be.   I’m sorry, as much as you try to change your image, you will always be known as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in my eyes.  Pussies.  There will undoubtedly be some Ducks fans out there that will say I’m just bitter because the Ducks won a Stanley Cup before the Kings and to that I say, yeah I am, go fuck yourself.  That still doesn’t change the fact that your whole organization is the laughing stock of professional sports.  Even your announcers suck.  They are such fucking homers, they make me want to strangle a puppy.  If my mother called me and told me that Brian Hayward, the Ducks color commentator, was my long lost brother, I would be forced to carry out a murder/suicide, killing Hayward and then myself for the shame of being related to that fuckwad.

In a world where the Anaheim Ducks weren’t around to be the bane of my existence:

• One of my favorite childhood movies, The Mighty Ducks, wouldn’t elicit the Pavlovian response of me punching a baby in the face every time it’s on TV.
• Plenty of other, more deserving sports markets may have gotten a franchise over Anaheim.  Somehow I feel like hockey makes more sense in Seattle, Portland, Milwaukee, Hartford, I could go on…but Anaheim, really?
• The Kings would still have George Parros and his sweet mustache.

• Hockey fans wouldn’t have had to endure Chris Pronger’s consistently dirty playing in a Ducks jersey.  Prick.

I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see the Ducks in the cellar of the Western Conference.  I’ve had to sit and watch this team of douchebags make the playoffs year after year while the Kings haven’t made the playoffs since 2001-2002.  Well I believe the tide is changing my friends, but nevertheless, I still believe that Al Qaeda should target the Honda Center for a terrorist attack, wiping out the entire Ducks organization and their fans.  Oh wait, Al Qaeda wouldn’t do that because not enough fans attend Duck games…because nobody in the OC gives two shits about hockey.

But one has to have dreams right?

Jennifer Hudson,28, hasn’t stopped gushing over her son.

The Oscar winner and hit songstress showed off new photos of her nearly 4 month old son David, on Monday’s episode of the Oprah Winfrey show. Baby David was born on August 10th.

Hudson promises to make this first Christmas for baby David a memorable event,”…I’m going to go crazy”…He’s very aware but he is so young and it’s his first Christmas, so you have to go all out…”

She added….”I kind of want to get him his own Santa Claus and just have like a toy store in the house, full of thing”…

ABC has announced that Jennifer Hudson: I’ll Be Home For Christmas will air on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 8PM ET/PT.

Last night’s Lakers-Knicks battle at Staples Center was one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had as a fan, at least from a televised perspective.

For only the second time in their history, the Lakers utilized a simulcast (showing the game on both FSW and Prime Ticket) to bring viewers a near in-arena experience with the Courtside View experience – bringing the viewer literally thisclose to the game:

The Lakers won the game rather easily (‘Bench Mob’ shortcomings aside), 100-90, behind Kobe’s 34 points but from my seat that was an afterthought.

Aside from the rather overenthused halftime ‘reporting’ by Bill McDonald, the entire experience was a ‘Best Case Scenario’ for a Lakers fan. You are quite literally sitting Courtside, but from the comfort of the home sofa. The sounds of the game were highlighted from players’ sneakers to the natural crowd noise (it’s really amazing at how uninspired the Lakers crowds really are, even with Spike Lee & Stevie Wonder adjunct to Jack Nicholson) to the grunts and moans of the players to Lawrence Tanter’s baritone:

In short, it really enabled me to get into the game in more depth than I normally do. Though Joel Meyers & Stu Lantz are an entertaining, informative duo, it was really nice to FEEL the game from that unique perspective.

Here’s hoping that the powers that be at Fox/Prime choose to make this a semi-regular feature of the broadcasts in the future. Maybe even a Playoff game?

Come tutti sapete, lo scorso 2 ottobre i Kiss sono tornati alla ribalta con “Sonic Boom”, diciannovesimo album in studio che segue di ben undici anni il precedente “Psycho Circus”. Il disco, che ha debuttato al numero 2 della Billboard Top 200, è il primo dove compaiono Eric Singer (turnista di lusso, già con Alice Cooper e Avantasia) e Tommy Thayer (ex Black ’n Blue) al posto dei dimissionari Peter Criss e Ace Frehley, quest’ultimo autore di un album solista uscito di recente, “Anomaly”, che a detta di Metal Hammer UK non è malaccio.

Ma senza sminuire il valore di questo disco, sul quale non sono in grado di esprimermi, sappiamo bene che la “band più calda del mondo” gioca le sue carte principalmente sul palcoscenico, come sta dimostrando anche nel mastodontico tour mondiale che attualmente li vede alle prese con una cinquantina di date tra Stati Uniti e Canada. Al rientro dalla pausa estiva, i Kiss si sono esibiti alla Cobo Arena di Detroit, la prestigiosa venue dove nel lontano 1975 registrarono lo storico “Alive!”, e che la band ha voluto onorare con un doppio concerto in grande stile (che uscirà in dvd la prossima estate) prima dell’imminente demolizione del locale.

A proposito di live, in questi giorni sono state rese note le date del tour europeo di Simmons, Stanley e soci, che tra maggio e giugno del 2010 verranno a farsi una lunga passeggiata nel vecchio continente, toccando 16 nazioni, una delle quali – la Slovacchia – non ha mai ospitato un concerto dei Kiss. (Riuscite a crederci? Esiste un luogo dove i Kiss non hanno mai suonato!)

Il “Sonic Boom Over Europe: From The Beginning To The Boom” passerà in Italia per una sola data: martedì 18 maggio, al Mediolanum Forum di Assago (Milano). I biglietti saranno in vendita dalle ore 10 di venerdì sul circuito TicketOne e neanche a dirlo sono supereconomici: un posto numerato nella tribuna gold costa “appena” 90 euro (+ prevendita, of course), uno non numerato nel parterre o nel primo anello 65 euro e uno nel secondo anello 50 euro. E per noi milanesi non è neanche il caso di lamentarci, se pensiamo a quanto dovranno sborsare i numerosi fan che accorreranno da ogni angolo d’Italia. Ma suppongo che una buona parte degli incassi venga spesa per la parte pirotecnica dello show, se è vero, come scrive Classic Rock, che nella suddetta duegiorni di Detroit hanno fatto esplodere fuochi d’artificio per un valore di 50.000 dollari!

Il tour europeo prevede inoltre nuovi abiti di scena, una nuova setlist e un nuovo palco. «Ripercorreremo l’intera storia musicale della band», ha spiegato Paul Stanley, «su un palco che ci fa fare un passo da gigante nonostante i nostri tacchi da 20 centimetri. LOS ANGELES – A procuradora da cidade de Los Angeles, Carmem Trutanich, afirmou nesta segunda-feira, 16, que ainda espera obter o reembolso pelos US$ 3 milhões gastos pela municipalidade com o funeral de Michael Jackson. Apesar disso, um relatório afirma que não há lei que preveja esse tipo de ressarcimento.

O Comitê de Segurança Pública da cidade irá revisar nesta segunda-feira um relatório, segundo o qual Los Angeles gastou US$ 3,2 milhões na cerimônia realizada em julho no Staples Center, incluindo US$ 2 milhões em horas extras para policiais. O documento afirma também que o funeral deu um impulso de US$ 4 milhões para a economia local.

O relatório afirma que não havia determinação em julho prevendo que a proprietária do Staples Center, a AEG, reembolsasse a cidade. Apesar disso, a procuradora disse que buscará o dinheiro.

Después de una jornada en la que no hubo sorpresas, ya que Dallas, Atlanta, Boston, Orlando y Portland ganaron sus respectivos compromisos, las miradas se centran en la reaparición de Pau Gasol. El de Sant Boi ha estado varias semanas en el dique seco, y ahora vuelve a saltar al parqué para revitalizar el juego de su equipo.

Las expectativas creadas en torno a la figura de Pau son muy altas. Después de ser uno de los principales protagonistas del éxito cosechado la pasada temporada, los seguidores tienen muchas esperanzas puestas en él. Se supone que el español será el escudero de Bryant en la cancha, el hombre a quien pasar la bola en caso de que Kobe esté bien defendido o, simplemente, muy cansado para jugarse los tiros.

Pau vuelve al Staples Center en un partido que no será nada fácil. Los Chicago Bulls mantienen un balance positivo de seis victorias por cuatro derrotas, y están resultando ser el equipo peleón de la pasada temporada. Con J. Noah como máximo reboteador de la liga y un D. Rose que sigue creciendo, los angelinos tendrán que emplearse a fondo si quieren derrotar a los afamados Bulls.

En todo caso, para Gasol no dejará de ser un inicio; no hay que esperar de él grandes cosas de momento. Sin embargo, esta madrugada tiene la oportunidad de demostrar que quiere ser una referencia en los momentos complicados.

Last night I made my way downtown to the ridiculously over-the-top Staples Center to reach the Club Nokia Mezzanine Bar for I AM A LASER, a new monthly that seeks to unite a wide variety of urban gypsies in the quest for cultural expression on the edge: future sound, live art, and good times.

This area of Los Angeles is flat out stupid. There are so many lights you can probably see it from outer space, flashing TV screens eighty-five fucking feet high blare out mediated mania into the night and wild-eyed revelers run around everywhere yelling and laughing. It is LA’s answer to Times Square, but without all those claustrophobia-inducing high-rises trying to corralling the energy; after all, this city has enough moxie to set the freaking desert on fire and burn it down. Last night was the Downtown LA Art Walk so the streets were thick with crawlers and the parking was $25. Are you fucking kidding me?

Luckily a few blocks away the parking was only $5; I am pretty sure I can walk two blocks for $20. Entering off the street into the metal-detector, the front door cats were searching hardcore although it is funny what you can get away with if you just straight up tell them: Oh well I have ____ in my bag. “Okay, go in.”

Riding the elevator up, I asked the button-pusher what it was like inside the venue. “I don’t know,” he said. “I have never been out of the elevator.” Ever?

Well, I will tell you what Club Nokia Mezzanine Bar is like: it’s swanky as all hell. Curving walls slide down into cushy round seating areas stacked with velvet cushions, and there is plenty of room to wander around or fall down. Reds, blues, pinks, purples and silvers skate around the venue, a bar shilling $6 MGDs (not bad) lines one side and deep into the space rests the DJ stand with tight little dance floor, albeit with a few columns in the way (hey something’s gotta raise the roof besides our hands). It was one of the nicest clubs I have ever been in, and everyone was kind of looking around like, “shit this is fancy,” and brushing our shoulders off like we were Jay-Z or something.

Right after leaving the elevator is a good-sized outdoor smoking section with a fat view of the surrounding downtown area; however this being Swankland there are security people and video cameras watching your every puff, and you can’t actually get to the side of the balcony as they have it roped off, in case anybody gets too drunk and rowdy and tries to fall off.

Super cushy VIP booths line either side of the bar in the lengthwise venue, and in the first sunken area as you enter were the live artists from Think Space Gallery, who were both creating some really eye-pulling art. On the right a guy was airbrushing a face onto a piece of natural wood, and on the left my new friend John was doing somewhat of a figure drawing reminiscent of Basquiat with scrawled text and plenty of textured details. Like the edge of the balcony, the artist area was roped off lest the crowd decide to mutiny and go apeshit with the oil paints. It must happen a lot.

Playing on the many flat screen TVs around the venue was one of the trippiest movies I have ever seen, Holy Mountain, and the crowd consensus was “Man I am glad I am not on mushrooms right now with that crazy shit on.” Neat visuals and indeed lasers swept the room, and a giant black and white “I AM A LASER” graphic welcomed you at the door. This ain’t no fucking dive bar.

To the music: on arrival I wondered for a second if I was in the right club; I was expecting some beat music and instead was hearing “Milkshake” and “Push It.” The dance floor was grinding, however more than a few of us recoiled to the smoking area until R/D went on. “What the fuck is this?” people were asking me. Just wait, I said. It is about to get good.

Sure enough R/D came on and gave Club Nokia Mezzanine Bar a taste of sticky sounds the likes of which much of the crowd had never heard before. Although many of us were there for the music and knew what we were in for, there was a contingent who had wandered in after the Downtown LA Art Walk, just in for some booze and some beats. Boy did they get it. I LOVE SEEING THE FACES of people who are experiencing my kind of music for the first time ever. Intially they are a little confused, as the music doesn’t fit into any preexisting category in their heads. Then the “huh?” look in their eyes changes to a spark of excitement, and they start twitching a bit as the new sounds flood into their limbs. Finally they give in and just start freaking out on the dance floor beside me. Oh I love it. R/D makes and plays amazing music and I hope to see him out more often in LA.

Souleye was in the house last night, jumping around the room rapping, weaving in and out of the dance floor, giving random people high-fives, popping behind the DJ booth and in general adding quite a bit of positive energy to the night. I was stoked to see so many people having a great time together on the dance floor, and an MC who can uplift you with his rhymes AND his lyrics is always welcome in my head. Sometimes we need to be reminded that indeed we are all living a dream.

My friend Take aka Sweatson Klank was on next; if you don’t know who that is then go to his Myspace page and listen to his “Sleeping Bear” remix for Architeq, it is one of my favorite tracks this year. He is a regular performer and part of the gang at Low End Theory, and neither of us were too sure how his brain-bending no-limits beats would go over as we smoked outside together listening to “Push It.” The crowd definitely seemed a bit more electrohouse than experimental.

But maybe that was the whole point: lure in the crowd with a milkshake (it does bring all the boys to the yard) and then when they are dancing and drinking and having a good time, slowly evolve their musical brains by gradually progressing to richer and more experimental beats. I am not saying there is no value in “Milkshake,” God knows I’ve shaken my milkshake to that song before, but there is just such a vast ocean of electronic music, and the normal populace is exposed to maybe 1% of it. Let’s change that.

One of the goals of I AM A LASER is to unite people from different scenes with the love of live art and new beats, and to try to create a community atmosphere, to bring a little of the festie-feel into the big city. And it worked. There was a very diverse range of people there last night: beat purists, burners, club kids, art walkers, local producers and dancing freaks. It was refreshing to see the music I love landing on new ears and infecting new minds. I will be back.

Jose Calderon is starting to come around

And back out west the Raptors head. The boys start a four-game swing tonight against the Clippers at Staples Center — one they better take, because Phoenix, Denver and Utah loom to close things out and the chances of stealing a win in one of those cities are about as good as a Raptor guard checking an opposing player off the dribble. As always, the men at Raptors Republic have weighed in with an in-depth preview, which includes my NBA 2K10 simulation.

Even with their tough schedule to open the season, the Raptors have caught a share of breaks with teams missing some key players and coming off back-to-backs. The Clippers are the latest squad to face Toronto undermanned, with sophomore guard and second-leading scorer Eric Gordon (18.9 per) and 2009 top pick Blake Griffin sidelined. Renowned ugly man Chris Kaman has stepped up in Griffin’s absence (21.7 points and 9.6 boards), but he doesn’t exactly transform the Clips into a Western Conference power. They enter tonight 3-6 and coming off home losses to New Orleans and Oklahoma City.

As usual, the key for the Raptors is to D up or count on the Clippers to completely disappear in the second half, as Chicago did Wednesday at the ACC (though I’d say it was a combination of both that night). With Jose Calderon starting to click, it’s time to see Hedo Turkolgu step up and flash some of those late-game heroics that made him such a hot commodity this summer. That, and maybe a little production from Jarrett Jack and the bench crew.

The Raptors and Clippers tip tonight at 10:30 EST.

This is one most Raptors fans will remember quite vividly, but with a date against the Clippers Friday night, there’s never been a more appropriate time to pull it from the archives. From what I recall, this was one of a few game-winners Vince hit over the span of a few weeks back in early 2001. Ah, a great time to be a Raps fan. Little did we know how he’d do us in.

Also, on the subject of buzzer beaters to break the poor Clippers’ hearts at Staples Center, here’s a look back at T.J. Ford’s of a couple seasons ago. Personally, I’ll be happier if we wrap tomorrow’s game up by halftime and not let it get that point.

The new mantra for Kings fans is quickly becoming “Believe!”  Believe that this team’s success early in the season is nothing less than what we can expect for the remainder.  Believe that we are headed for the playoffs and oh, so much more.

Today, in a 1pm matinee, our boys face the Nashville Predators.  Nashville got hot after a rough start, winning 4 straight before falling to the Anaheim Ducks 4-0 in a game that may be credited as much to Jonas Hiller as Nashville’s inability to generate offense, especially on the powerplay.

While every game is important and certainly coaches and players will tell you that no opponent can be taken lightly, victory in a game like this after the “high” of beating the Penguins two nights ago can do much to maintain momentum. Young success doesn’t have the luxury of taking any days off and the best cure for a hangover coming off a big win is more wins – for winning is one of the few things in life in which, under every circumstance, more is better.

Lauren Conrad was back on the red carpet Friday, November 6, attending the SBE launch of Hyde Lounge at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  In typical Los Angeles style, once a club (like Hyde) loses its luster, either you wait a while and change the name of the venue, or wait a while and change the club.  It looks like Hyde is going through the latter process, keeping the name but being moved into the Staples Center.  The lounge overlooks the court and is perfect for viewing.

Lauren Conrad came out to support  Heidi’s former fake boss Sam Nazarian, head of SBE.  Lo Bosworth wasn’t far behind on the red carpet.  Lauren wore black liquid leggings with a simple white top, and her Givenchy heels.  Meanwhile, Lo missed the mark for us pairing a dark grey top with a black leather jacket and black jeans.  The jeggings don’t fit her well.  Plus, it’s hard to pull off dark grey and black without looking drab.

Update: Kyle Howard joined Lauren at the lounge, although they didn’t walk the carpet together.

Later Lauren’s bff Lo Bosworth showed up and the couple toned down their PDA’s. “Kyle was nuzzling Lauren on the neck and Lo looked like she really disapproved,” our source said.

Fresh from the folks at Onion News Network comes a tragic report. Apparently during a blowout loss to the Phoenix Suns a load bearing beam gives way sending the roof of the Staples Center to fall in on all the arenas occupants. If you haven’t checked out Onion News before, you probably should sometime soon. You know, so you wont be the only one missing the jokes. That all.
