The Internet has been abuzz with rumors and gossip about the sportsman, Tiger Woods and the state of his marriage to the former au-pair, Elin Nordegren (29 years old) who is the mother of his two kids, Sam and Charlie. Some have even concocted the conspiracy theory that the crash was a stunt to divert attention from damaging and scurrilous stories about to be printed in the American tabloid press.

Rumor mills even hinted that Tiger may have been in gay relationships and was about to be ‘outed’ by the press. A commentator on the BBC made a cryptic statement when he described Woods as very odd who had been engaging in a strange and bizarre manner for some time.The other woman involved in the saga has denied having an affair with the sportsman and maintains that her relationship with him was ‘platonic’.

This has not prevented Rachel Uchitel (34 years old) from selling her story to the National enquirer and the Star magazines who had alerted the world to Woods’s trangressions.The text messages she allegedly received from Woods sold for 500,000 dollars. The Wood’s saga merely strengthens the argument for a law on Privacy in America.

Wood’s mansion in Florida has been besieged and taken over by the tabloid press and the fact that his agents have issued a statement apologizing for his transgressions have not diminished the media interest in the matter. I would have thought that the man was entitled to some Privacy. What he chooses to do in his spare time is his business.

As I was on the elliptical this morning reading Astronomy magazine (for all of about 5 minutes before I had to switch to something my mind could really grasp – Star) it struck me – as it often does these days – how insignificant we all really are in the grand scheme of things.  So break that down even further to the worlds we live in every day – as defined by the people we interact with regularly, the media we’re exposed to, the places we visit and see.  Basically we get perspective on all of about .00000001% (not scientifically founded) of what’s going on out there.  The Social Media craze has helped broaden our horizons for sure.  It’s great to regularly connect with some of our HR colleagues abroad – see recent video, as an example, from Bill Boorman on HR Ringleader.  So I’d like to think we’re starting to share “best practices” and thought leadership across boarders.  Or are we?

I’ve had two international assignments in my career – one took me to Brussels, Belgium for a year-and-a-half and the other took me to India for a year.  As I reflect back, I was there as an American to bring the American way of business to a fledgling foreign operation.  While successful as an instigator, the local environment & culture ultimately took root – as it should – and helped morph those businesses into what they are today.  So I wonder what did I bring back from my global assignments that help me in my HR practice on home soil?

1. How we do things around here ain’t the only way to do it.
2. Using the old-fashioned form of employee interaction, group presentations, team gatherings, office events are often more effective than any fandangled new communication tool or technology.
3. Indian’s aren’t shy about discussing performance concerns – when someone isn’t up to the mark, they let you (and them) know it.  Feedback is more immediate and more constant…we need more of that around here too!
4. Employers make tough decisions even when those decisions may alienate their employees…employers aren’t “held hostage” by employees easily in developing economies.  I’d like to see a bit more thick skin in that regard on the US home front. 
5. “Breaking Bread” is sacred – everyone goes to lunch together every day…rarely, if ever, do people eat at their desks alone.  Lunch is an event.
6. Having a good time in the office – like really silly almost childish stuff – is important…and encouraged.

These are to some extent generalizations – and none of it is rocket science.  And that’s the point.  How do we capture the positive subtleties of global workplace environments and cultures and share them at home?  I’m curious: What have you learned from your global experiences, or from your peers and colleagues abroad, that you use in your HR practice today?

This month’s online Vanity Fair article about Kate Gosselin confirms something I’ve suspected all along: Both she and Jon are addicted to all of the attention.

I am embarrassed to admit I own almost every one of these issues. Sheesh.

And, I suppose, in some sort of sick way, it’s understandable: Since March of this year, Kate and her husband of extremely poor judgment have appeared on the cover of celebrity tabloids over 50 times (15 times each in In Touch Weekly and Star Magazine alone). Vanity Fair says that number is more than any other celebrity, Brangelina included.

Star Magazine editor Candace Trunzo points to those photos of Jon partying at a bar with college coeds in Pennsylvania as the beginning of the insanity.

“It was the beginning of this incredible phenomenon known as Jon and Kate Gosselin,” Trunzo tells Vanity Fair. “Everybody wanted to talk about them. They had become a real-life soap opera. The show was never as interesting as the two of them in real life.

“They were doomed to be exposed,” Trunzo continues, “because they put themselves out there in the first place. And now they’re addicted to the limelight.”

And are they ever. “The View,” the “Today” show, “Larry King Live,” “The Insider”… it’s endless.

Not surprisingly, the Jon and Kate scandal has drastically benefited these magazines, all of which have been suffering the effects of the slowed economy. Vanity Fair says that unlike other celebrity stories, the Gosselins are easy to produce, partly because the price of paparazzi shots of them run a lot less.

It also helps that Jon and Kate either don’t know how to control their image or don’t want to.

“Brad and Angelina try to be discreet,” explains In Touch Weekly editor Richard Spencer to Vanity Fair, “whereas Jon and Kate, they serve it daily to you on a platter.”

And if you had any doubt that Kate isn’t lapping up all this attention, check this out: During a shopping trip the Vanity Fair writer took with Kate to FAO Schwarz in New York City, a paparazzo sneaked photos of Kate as her purchases were rung up. He explains, “She’s a massive story at the moment.” When the Vanity Fair reporter relays that news to Kate, guess what her reply is?

“At the moment?”

This whole exploration of addiction to fame reminds me of what Kate said on the “Today” show a couple weeks back – about how her kids are upset that the TLC show isn’t taping.

“Over the weekend I told them that we’re not filming at this point,” she told Meredith Vieira. “And actually, times eight, there was wailing and sobbing. They love our crew, they love the interaction, they love the events. There is nothing harmful about it. They are angry.”

Based upon her statement, I’d argue the Aaden, Alexis, Hannah, Leah, Joel and Collin are addicted to the attention, too. And how could they not be? It makes perfect sense: Their parents probably pay more attention to them while the show is filming than at any other time. Plus, they have other people (the film crew) whom they can turn to when their parents are distracted.

Dr. Drew Pinsky should forget about celebrities addicted to drugs, alcohol and sex, and instead focus on those who are addicted to media attention. He’d have more clients than he’d know what to do with – and he’s already got 10 in Pennsylvania.

Putting a stop on the news of  sloppy marriage with her giant hubby Lamar Odom, Beautiful Khole Kardashian said they are getting along very well and both are very happy after marriage.Stiill it is not sure that both are legally married or not and according to a latest news by Star magazine both split because Odom refused to give a massage to Khole.

Khole on her blog said all the news regarding her breakup with khole are rubbish and both are living happily. Khole Kardashian and L.A Lakers star Lamar Odom married in September after dating for just one month. Khole is really annoyed with recent comments made by star magazine and said in her blog that all their comments are really absurd.

Lo Bosworth attended Star Magazine’s 5th Year Celebration on October 13th. She looks very chic in this sheer over-sized button down and black tights matched with a black skirt. Lo gets an A on this outfit.

Robert Pattinson managed to do so last Spring by finding himself in first position on USA Today’s Celebrity Heat Index, which measures media exposure. At 23, Robert is on every magazine covers since Twilight came out,last fall. Teen People claimed he was the new Jude Law. He was on the cover of Entertainment Weekly three times and has also appeared in more serious publications such as Vanity Fair, GQ, Rolling Stones and Interview. Some say he has a relationship with Megan Fox as well as with his Twilight partner, Kristen Stewart. Hugh Jackman said that he was a “really good actor and a great guy”. What more could you ask for? A long and prolific career like Jack Nicholson is his wish.

How do you analyze the last year?

It’s completely surreal, I was an unknown actor when I celebrated my 22nd birthday. Everything has changed in the last 12 months! I haven’t been able to pass a single night at home since last fall. I go from one hotel room to the other, frequently changing cities and countries, according to production or promotional needs of Twilight.

 What do you think of your idol status?

I think people confuse my vampire persona, Edward, with me. I’m far from being as sexy as him! (laughs). But I like the compliments I receive, even though I never know what to answer because it embarrasses me.

What has success changed for you?

I can’t move around as freely and I can’t go around alone anymore when I go somewhere where I can be recognized… But I sometimes manage to get by  incognito. Honestly, I can’t complain. I’ll be busy for the next two years.

Do you like to be rich and famous?

 What I like about  my recent fame is that it allows me to develop projects that I care about. For example, I’ll be in Bel Ami, an adaptation of Guy de Maupassant’s book. I’ll play a young man who manipulates powerful people to gain power and I’ll wear period costumes in Paris.

 What do you hate the most about your new life style?

Nobody has a manual on how to deal with the type of fame that came down on me by chance. I often find myself in crowds… I need bodyguards to escort me. It’s incredible! But I’d rather laugh about it, because I know I’m lucky. My goal is to last in this business. I have to work hard, because the current craze will fade. What matters to me, is that I’m able to accomplish myself in my personal life and my career.

 Do you have musical projects?

Not for the moment. By spending long months in LA, I realized that many young actors want to be singers and musicians. It’s a cliché I’d rather avoid. I love Van Morrison and I have a great time when I play music, but I keep it as a passion at the moment. Movies first!

Last questions: Are you in love?

No, and I don’t have time for a girlfriend. I jump from one plane to the next and change countries constantly. No girl would want to share her life with a guy who is permanently absent. At the moment I’m thinking about my career. Love will come later…or by surprise.

You probably know all of this stuff too considering it should be fairly common knowledge, but let’s review…

WARNING what you are about to read below is extremely pretentious.

1. NEVER trust a woman who claims that she “just can’t be friends with other females.” Or says things like “I just get along with men better.” Um no. This is not good. What she’s really saying: “I have a hard time being friends with other women because I am constantly trying to steal/sleep/flirt with their men.” 

2. NEVER trust a man who says: “I just get along better with chicks.” What his statement really means: “I’d rather hang out with ppl who I can have sex with” (gay men excluded from this generalization…obviously).

3. It’s the height of rudeness to view an Evite sent to you multiple times and never respond. Responding with yes or no is far more appropriate. Viewing it multiple times just make the organizer think you are waiting to see if anyone cooler is attending.

4. Family Guy got it right again…All hot chicks with a camera think they are photographers and all emotional faux-hawked dudes with a guitar think they’re Clapton, Vaughn, King, Young or one of the many greats they’ve never even listened to.

5. Candy corn contains nicotine.

6. If you’re going to get knocked up, try to go back to public high school. They have the most cost-effective daycare.

7. Heidi Montag is the worst thing to happen to music since Auto-tune.

8. Bragging about your veganism is just a fancy way for you to forget about all the other aspects of your life where you’re a complete and utter failure.

9. You must be a junior to shop in the junior’s section. 40-50 something divorcees, I’m talking to you!

10. I’ve been getting grey hairs popping up on my head since I was 22 years old. More proof of global warming (shout out to Joe Soucheray for borrowing his line).

11. Everyone on the Real World should read more than they binge drink. Us Weekly and/or Zombie Magazines are not books.

12. There’s a limit to the amount of times you can friend and then defriend someone on Facebook. 2 times ppl! It’s FaceLAW.

13. Constantly talking about/referring to bands that you think are “cool” or “underground” does not make you either of those things.

14. Dentists are car salesman with latex gloves and an H1N1 mask.

15. When is it appropriate to tell someone: “I don’t shut up, I grow up and when I look at you I throw up.”  I chose to during my year-end review at work. Not recommended.

16. If you drink 7 Mountain Dews a day and say, “Yuck” when someone offers you a glass of water, don’t be surprised when you get kidney stones.

It’s been confirmed that Justin and Jessica are couple-no-more.

I wonder if it had anything to do with the gossip surrounding a hot n’ sexy encounter between Rihanna and Justin Timberlake.

This is some juicy gossip.  Or is it just gossip?

Not according to tabloid mag, Star Magazine:

“Rihanna and Justin have been talking and texting on the phone nonstop since the VMAs,” a source tells Star. But before Rihanna totally gives in to the attraction, she wants to make sure she’s not his lady on the side. A friend reveals: “She asked him on the phone, ‘Are you still with Jessica?’ And he hinted that things were cooling off between them.”

“One time, Justin was joking about strippers. He said she needed to entertain him like that.” So Rihanna gave him an impromptu lap dance! “She likes to test the boundaries.”

Justin has made it clear he is 100 percent into Rihanna, and she equally feels the magnetic attraction, says a source. “She is a total tease and loves flirting with him. She digs him and wants to date him too!”

It seems Justin’s track record with the ladies has been rocky, to say the least.

Is Justin Timberlake just a man whore?  In the past 10 yrs he’s been a sidekick to some serious celebrities like Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz, Jessica Biel and now Rihanna.

OK, so I’m completely obsessed with A&E’s new series “Hoarders.”

Is it possible that even celebrities can be hoarders?

And after reading a summer issue of Star at the vet’s yesterday, I’m beginning to wonder if we will eventually see “Charlie’s Angels” star Kate Jackson on the show.

The magazine reports that a year after moving into the $2 million Santa Monica abode, Kate’s home has “deteriorated into a living hellhole filled with rat droppings, moldy food and heaps of debris.”

Ring a bell?

Star attributes its info to David Angelotti, a professional cleaner who claims Kate’s personal assistant hired him and others to help clean up the house – a feat which reportedly took two days. (All things considered, that’s a very quick turn-around, as “Hoarders” viewers can attest.)

“There is so much junk that we had to remove a bunch of stuff just to walk through it,” David tells Star. “It stank in there because there was so much garbage everywhere.”

David isn’t the only one talking. One of Kate’s anonymous neighbors has this to say: “Kate is very sweet, but there’s something a bit bizarre about her. She has so much clutter in her backyard, and the house is in shambles.”

David says that the home is in such bad shape (the Star article accompanied photos but they’re not included on the site) that 60-year-old Kate – who shares the home with her teenage son – asked if he and his crew would return again to help out.

“No one wanted to work there again,” he tells Star. “It was so depressing. She’s like a crazy recluse — it’s a real sad Hollywood story.”

“Hoarders” describes compulsive hoarding as “a mental disorder marked by an obsessive need to acquire and keep things, even if the items are worthless, hazardous, or unsanitary.” The show states that there are over 3 million hoarders.

As far as I can tell, this news about Kate hasn’t been reported elsewhere, so it may or may not be true. But given the secrecy and embarrassment hoarders tend to have about their living situations, who knows for certain?

A friend of Dean McDermott confessed to Star magazine that Dean’s marriage to Tori Spelling is a sham.  According to the friend, the couple’s off-camera life is far from that portrayed in their hit reality show, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood.

Dean’s friend Michael Olifiers adds, “There is no question Dean is with Tori for the money and the fame. Dean’s always been desperate to become famous. He craved being in the spotlight and Tori’s his ticket to that life.”

Dean’s pal claims that the charade will continue unitl the money stops rolling in, but once it stops, so will the marriage, as Dean doesn’t even find Tori physically attractive.  Michael says that Dean even once  joked that: ”She looks like a horse!”

According to a number of news sources, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein was found dead in his New York City apartment on Friday.  

Star Magazine reports a rep for the deejay said “The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear” but the mag expects it is “a drug-related death.”

Formerly the beau of Nicole Richie, DJ AM narrowly avoided death last September after a plan he shared with Blink 182’s drummer Travis Barker crashed.  

Twitter  is abuzz with condolences from celebrities and beyond.  A source tells Star that Richie is very distraught and has been crying nonstop since the news was broken to her.
