Station launcher keeps no secrets

Back in September, I mentioned a report by Tentonhammer that Sony is currently working on yet another Star Wars MMO. All we know about the title is that it is set in the Clone Wars universe, will be developed on the Free Realms engine, and is a casual browser based game that will likely have a freemium model (free portion with option for subscription/item mall). The above picture is the final evidence we needed, apart from an official announcement, that the game is indeed being worked on. There has yet to be an official statement by Sony Online Entertainment, mind you, although this slipup is a high indicator that an official announcement is on its way.

When Clone Wars is released, there will be three Star Wars MMOs on the market. Granted each title is likely playing to a different audience, I can’t help but get the feeling that one of these three titles is going to be pushed out of the market by the other two. If Star Wars Galaxies is any indicator, both the pre and post NGE versions, the Star Wars IP is one that has yet to be fully implemented in an MMO form, so the player actually feels that they are in the Star Wars universe, rather than a sci-fi shooter that looks suspiciously like Star Wars.

"Words can't describe my feelings for Dell"

Its becoming a time-honoured tradition in my household. Every year a laptop blows up, usually of the Dell variety. While the term “blow up” is probably a gross overstatement of what happened, it lands pretty close to the mark in concerns to how I feel on the issue. To date I have owned 5 Laptops in around 6-7 years..not a bad average. Admittedly Laptop technology saw a drastic rise and some of the items were fazed out through natural means…But not all.

As people can probably tell from the sheer barrage of posts in the last 2 days (what are we on now 6-7 posts?) I have gotten the wind back in my sails and actually doing something relative to the content of this blog (ok I will admit mild distractions from my wargaming blog).

What arises now though is a new problem. I have moved away from the “reliable” Windows-based machines and taken my first plunge into “reliable” Mac territory…

I ended up getting the October 09 version of the Macbook, a much smaller bit of kit then I am used too. Specs are 2.26 Core Duo, 4Gb Ram, 500gb HDD,  Nvidia 9400m (built-in?), Snow Leopard OSX. It really is a step down for me but since my gaming days are long gone (ending with a brief run on Aion) I doubt very much that I will ever need anything mobile/powerful.

So far it has been an uphill struggle, with multiple problems revolving around connectivity. When I first got the machine, I was able to use Safari, itunes etc do all the Apple type things you tend to do like flood your iphone with free Apps. But recently I have not been able to connect/download anything from itunes or the App store. The issue seems to be the router or Isp and so once again, just as something good happens, something bad that nullifies the good completely occurs to bring “balance”. This issue has recently spread to certain Anime figure websites and payment sites meaning I am heavily restricted on online purchasing. The same restrictions seem to apply to my iphone too creating double the frustration. Whats the point is having all this great stuff when you can’t use it for what it’s intended?!

On the plus side. The large HDD I invested in is paying for itself as I flood it with new figure photos, music and of course the back log of anime I have to watch. Only problem? VLC does not support 64bit Snow Leopard and they have no developers to work on it…Great, Told you it was an up hill struggle.

Undoubtedly readers have “felt” the Star Wars undertones and for good reason. After watching episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 2, I went ahead and ordered the Season 1 DVD box set to watch over the Christmas period.

"Making up for poor movie modifications?"

After watching episode 1 I can say that I was thoroughly impressed. Watching a “younger” Yoda carving the crap out of a droid battalion, was to say most pleasing. Some of the elements of this series remind me of Transformers the movie (Animated not the Megan porn Bay garbage) where there is complete unprecedented disregard of life! Episode two to three shows the merciless nature of General Grievous and has many a scene of Troopers being sucked into space to die a horrid death..sheer awesome. To date I have watched only the first 5 (disc 1) but if the quality remains consistent I will have a pretty good time watching the rest.

Worth checking out.

We’re a little behind the curve here, but have now just watched the first two episodes of Clone Wars Season 2

So far so good.

Though..the plot was a little thin. I mean come ON how could Bain walk out of the Jedi temple without someone sensing him in the Force? That was a bit of a stretch.

Beyond that, another decent coming of age episode for Ashoka and hey Bounty Hunters rock.

The new clone wars has a basic but very enjoyable formula for most shows that just works.

What I’m still really looking forward to seeing are the hints of darkness in Anakin that we have yet to see.

Este fin aproveché para bajar algunos demos en el 360: NHL 2010, Star Wars: Clone Wars Heroes, Wet y Brutal Legend. Definitivamente fue Brutal Legend quién me dejó con la mejor impresión.

Clone Wars es una aventura de plataforma un poco mareadora y quizá simple, creo que está enfocada más a niños y al target de la caricatura y los geeks y fans de SW un poco mayores quedamos un poco fuera. Aún así podría ser divertido de vez en cuando.

Wet es un juego mezcla de Mirror’s Edge y Max Pain con posibilidades de entretenimiento. Mujer asesina, con pistolas y espada, que corre y brinca por todos lados persiguiendo al malo y cuando dispara entra en modo “bullet time” que tan famoso hiciera el juego Max Pain. Divertido, disfrutable y me entretuvo.

NHL es Hockey, no hay más que decir, siempre será divertido jugar y ese tipo de juegos siempre entrega diversión al máximo. Hace ya años que no juego una temporada completa de Hockey en el Box así que podría considerar intentarlo.

El juego que sí se separó fue Brutal Legend. Hasta hace poco estaba un poco fuera de mi radar, sin embargo, me fue presumido por la gente de EA que conozco y al jugar el demo les tengo que dar la razón. Así que investigué un poco: El juego es desarrollado por Tim Schafer (conocen The Secret of Monkey Island? dénle las gracias a él. La historia suena muy interesante ademas de que, saber que el comediante Jack Black es parte del proyecto al prestar su voz eleva el interés. Y vaya a mi parecer será una delicia de juego jugar y creo que la historia no decepcionará. Eres un Roadie metalero que es transportado a otra dimensión con seres malvados sacados de portadas de discos de Heavy Metal y una bella rockera armada con espadas. Tú… tú tienes una gran hacha y una guitarra para causar terror en este mundo, además tu talento como roadie y el rock te permiten crear un potente HotRod para avanzar por estos niveles dando hachazos a diestra y siniestra. Les recomiendo mucho bajar el demo y probarlo.Además el soundtrack contará con más de 100 canciones de Metal de 75 bandas. El juego sale mañana me parece.

Yo la verdad ya quiero el juego y conocer la historia totalmente, no soy una persona muy rockera pero el concepto, el humor y el juego en general me han capturado y definitivamente lo jugaré.

Gameplay
One of the most anticipated uses of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck controller configuration in the history of the Wii gaming system, gameplay in Lightsaber Duels is all about introducing players into the civilized but deadly world of hand to hand Jedi combat techniques. That means no blasters here. As the game’s subtitle suggests, whether playing as a servant of the will of the Jedi Council or the Dark Side of the Force, players will wield a lightsaber in one hand and the power of the force in the other. This is where the Wii Remote and Nunchuck come in.

Far from requiring players to build up their skills and knowledge of the Force, the goal of the control scheme of Lightsaber Duels is actually designed to make even beginning gamers a force to be reckoned from the first duel they face. The Wii Remote controls your lightsaber through a series of tiered attacks. Left and right motions of the remote equate to light damage, up and down slashes represent medium damage and stabbing motions do maximum damage. The remote’s trigger provides a blocking mechanism, while the Nunchuck controls your Force powers. In addition, each character possesses unique combo abilities, but keeping with the simplicity of the control scheme all players need to do is memorize these simple combos to take advantage of their power.

Playable Characters

Se a preguiça deu o tom aos episódios da primeira temporada (por que acompanhar uma história sobre as Guerras Clônicas se já vimos como elas terminam?), a Lucasfilm parece estar cumprindo a promessa de deixar Clone Wars mais interessante e o melhor: parece estar focando tudo nos fãs hardcore mesmo. Nesse teaser acima, vemos Darth Sidious negociando com o novo personagem, Cad Bane (que promete ser um puta caçador de recompensas), enchendo a bola da classe e colocando assim mais um peão no jogo de xadrez contra os Jedi, além de ter como objetivo conseguir um Holocron, famoso objeto Jedi amplamente explorado no Universo Expandido da série.

Holocrons, Caçadores de Recompensa em alta. Como eu disse, parece que os fãs serão o foco nessa temporada. Para ter certeza disso, só espero a promessa de alguns braços e cabeças rolando em lutas de Sabre-de-luz.

The folks over at Hudson River Park keep calling this RiverFlicks for Kids, but we’re really into a bunch of these movies, so either the films are also for grown ups, or we just like kid stuff. Tonight’s kid flick is the animated adventure Star Wars: The Clone Wars. “Set in the time between episodes II & III in the Star Wars saga; Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker fight to keep the republic together against formidable odds.”

The Waking Edge: A Nightmare Play

The Puppet Folk Revival are Muppets-style puppets who play actual instruments and blend folk-rock and comedy (the group’s repertoire includes a cover of M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes”). Back home in Israel, the PFR even has its own talk show. BTW, they have over 1200 fans on Facebook… for real!
