And just for the sheer amount of it that I do, tf fanart is just going tohave a post to itself~ haha.

Lots of images below! Click on the thumbnails for a larger view~ c:

Skyfire! Oekaki done at Transoekaki

Perceptor from Transformers: Animated. I got the urge to draw him and did this in… Open Canvas I want to say. Anyway, magic floating arms, go! /snrk/

I… this was done in all of 20 seconds to cheer up a friend of mine. x’D It is honestly no more than what the file name says: stupid doodle.

Done in a class last Spring. As in, I tried to draw Perceptor from memory and ended up with this, which is 87% made up, and then kept doodling him that way for the rest of the day. Ahaha. ;;

Same class as above. :3

If not the same class, then one from about that period. Yeeah, supreme nerd-bot reigned in my noggin for quite some time.

So at one point over on Transoekaki, there was a sheep fad. I… I’m not even kidding, there was something like 7 pages of TF sheep. :’D It was pretty amazing. This was one of my contributions… I’m not sure where the others went. I’ll track them down eventually. x’D

Another oekaki, and this is actually really recent. I’m rather happy with it. :3

His profile is fun to draw.

These seriously were my math notes. Or well, one page of them. Ahahaha~

…Seekers in dresses. Yes. I… I blame Shiome. >>;;

Usually I paid close attention in Brit Lit, but this time my doodles got away with me. OTP, go. XD The Skyfire one was actually mimicking a scene we were talking about at the end of one of the books we’d read, so I wasn’t totally spaced out!

I remember watching two Discovery Channel documentaries at my parents’ house when I was drawing this, which is why it’s “2hrStar.” Huhu. I don’t remember what the documentaries were about… I think one of them was on the Apocalypse. Or something. /shrugs/

But yes, that’s it for this dump! :’D Also, layout change might commence. Again. I didn’t realize quite how narrow the main content area is. Or how wide my files are. Hurr.

Manufacturer: Four Star
Brand: Transformers Knock Off
Line: Transistors Robot
Accessories: Main Body x 1

Well it’s about that time again; time for me to post another Robot Toy Review from the Land of Misfit Toys. This time around I’d like to touch on something near and dear to my little Cybertronian spark: the Four Star Seeker knock offs. Officially released by Four Star under the “Transistor Robots” banner as Phantom F-15 Jet, they are one of the best Starsream knock offs I’ve ever come across.

This F-15 Phantom lands on the ground…
Converts to a robot…
Destroys the enemy…
And flies away

Code Name:
Phantom

-Box Art

One of the most unusual, and noticable, features of these jets are the re-molded wings and tail fins. When you look at the wings, you can see the original design of the Seeker jet wings inside of them with some extra molding. The tail fins however, really bear no resemblance to the originals; other than how they attach. Their pointed edges, and enlarged features give them a truly imposing look when compared to their official counterparts. If the Hasbro/Takara versions of these molds are called Seekers, there is absolutely nothing stopping these figures from falling into the category of Destroyers; these ain’t your daddy’s Seekers… well they are but he probably doesn’t know about them. Their more like that evil presence that you kind of sence when your alone in the dark but you just can’t seem to catch a glimpse of them to prove that they’re real, then again would you really want to.

These bots also sport a re-molded canopy over the cockpit along with added detail to the metal part of the torso that forms their bodies.

The crowning feature that really sets them apart from the original Starscream/Skywarp/Thundercracker mold are the nose cone and afterburners. Rather than taking the easy/cheap way out, Four Star took the typical rubber and plastic parts and recast them in chomed out metal. The chomed out goodness doesn’t stop there though, they also gave these guys a new set of missiles/weapons. Completely disregarding the Takara missile launchers, they gave them a set of double missiles for each side; designed to more accurately reflect the F-15 fighter jet they were based on… AND CHOMED THEM OUT TOO!

The plastic is a very high-grade commercial quality, nothing like the brittle stuff that many knock offs are made of today. The plastic itself is not quite of Takara quality, but is still a very sturdy and dependable material. In my own personal opinion I would place the plastic somewhere between the quality that Hasbro used in the 80’s and the kind of stuff that Tonka was using on their Go-Bots line during the same time.

I’ve spent the better part of the last year trying to hunt down as much information about these figures as I can. Admittedly there are not a lot of websites that focus on stuff like this, so the bulk of my information has come from collectors who have been kind enough to let me look at and use pictures of their private collections. For those of us who don’t just collect Transformers but also Knock Offs and Vintage Knock Offs, these are truly a rare find.

Information about these figures has been almost impossible to find. Evil King Macrocranios of from Please Save Me Robots did a great job of digging up some old newspaper adds on these and various other knock offs in his blog post entitled Four Star Stories OR:Vintage Space Toast Tour Houston-Space Toaster Cowboy Outlaws. Apparently they were predominantly sold in Drug Stores like Eckerds. I’ve also talked to a few collectors who claim to have gotten them from bigger retail stores like K-Mart during the 80’s (I have no doubt that they were probably available at large retail stores, but please note that I have yet to find anything to corroborate this). The apparent retail price on these ranged from $5.oo-$10.00, which is amazing considering how much I have seen them go for today.

Alax Bickmore of The Toy Archive had this to say about them:

This is the Four Star version of Takara’s F-15 Diaclone. Four Star produced this jet in black, white and red. The jet and robot have many unique detailing that Four Star added to it. The box itself is made of heavy cardboard and has styrofoam inserts. This box and toy are full marked by Four Star and dated, 1985. The box art is also unique to Four Star, but the lay out of the graphics is like Transformer packaging.

The toy itself has alot of new changes. The jet carries 2 missiles on each wing, which give it F-15 feeling (more than the Missile Launchers do!). Four Star also added on a new type of canopy and added subtle details to the body and wings. Also as you can see, Four Star completely sculpted their own new wings and tail fins. The stickers are completely different, and the piece actually also came with a Sticker Sheet.

While in robot mode, everything is the same for the Transformation. Four Star did change the feet to be largere and easier to stand. They also changed the face, which now resembles a Jetifre (VF-1S) head w/o the prongs. This piece is really tough to locate, and packaged…well…..its the first I have ever seen one.

-Alex Bickmore,
Toy Archive

Given the limited number of these figures to survive the 80’s and make it into the hands of adult collectors here in the 21st century it’s easy to understand how many details of this figure have been lost over time. As Alex stated, the transformation is identical to the original Generation 1 Starscream mold… on all but one variation that I’ve found. Yes that’s right… VARIATIONS! Toy Archive lists 3 color variations; Black, White, and Red. I’ve been unable to find any proof of a red variation (not to say they don’t exist; I just haven’t found one, talked to anyone who has one in their collection, or even talked to anyone who has lost an auction for one on any of the various auction sites. I haven’t given up on trying to locate one, as it would make a great addition to my collection and make me the envy of all the Vintage KO Collectors I know), so for now it just remains the toy collector equivalent of an Urban Legend (for now).

To date I’ve been able to track down and document five variations of this mold. While they’re not all in my personal collection, I have taken the time to verify all the information I’ve found with pictures and conversations with multiple collectors. Here they are in order of rarity, easiest to hardest to find:

Black: long feet with the “Jetfire face”

Black: short feet with a Starscream head

White: long feet with the “Jetfire face”

White: short feet with a starscream head

and the finale reveal… *drum roll please*… wait for it… wait for it…

Gray: with “Prowl arms”

For the moment I’m just going to discuss the White and Black variations as they are the most similar and can, for all intents and purposes, be grouped together. As mentioned, within the color variations there are head and feet variations also. One using the normal Starscream face and feet, while the other uses a re-mold of the typical Seeker head made to (crudely) resemble Jetfire’s face along with larger elongated feet. Here are a few side by side shots of the mold variations:

Head

Feet

The fifth variation, the gray, appears to have a very similar transformation to the others with exception of his arms; in robot mode the gray doesn’t have the typical Seeker arms, rather he has arms that more closely resemble those of Prowl. However once you closely examine the pictures of the jet mode you will quickly notice a few differences, mainly in the area where the arms hide at. You’ll notice that the area behind the cockpit is not split so that the arms simply swivel out, rather it appears to be a cover that folds down (in a similar manner as the canopy) to allow the nose cone to pass through during transformation. In addition to that, the area where the shoulder joint should be has been completely removed. As to exactly how the arms transform; I’m at a loss to explain (I’ve never had the good fortune to handle one of these in person). The gray version also came with an added accessory, a small gray gun for him to hold in his modded out Prowl arms.

Thanks to Blitzwing256 from TFW2005.com for this picture

NES under Xray. Pretty Tight So Anamanaguchi and Starscream came last night to play a show at Oberli

NES under Xray. Pretty Tight

So Anamanaguchi and Starscream came last night to play a show at Oberlin and fucking killed it. I was really honored to get to open for them and really had a great time. Turned out to be more people there then I expected and Anamanaguchi seemed to have really liked my set. Hopefully I’ll get to chill with them in New York when I’m there in January. And brunch with them afterward was really fun. Some really cool guys, definitely don’t miss any of their shows.

-J

Anamanaguchi are an 8-bit band from New York city composed of Peter Berkman – Guitar/NES, James DeVito – Bass, Luke Silas – Drums, Ary Warnaar – Guitar/GameBoy, all going to New York University if I’m not mistaken (at least some of them definitely do). They basically combine traditional rock band instruments with I guess what you could call a hacked NES and Gameboy (though from what I was told the gameboy just has a cartridge that does it). So it’s got those great 8 bit sounds.

Their show was fucking crazy, people were going nuts. I mean if you just go their myspace and listen to their music you’ll understand. Just really up beat stuff, really fun, and the band definitely embodies that light hearted feeling. I was dancing like crazy the whole time.

Helix Nebula – Anamanaguchi, their most famous song, or at least the most played on Myspace. They are supposed to be releasing a new album in the near future and are going on a summer tour, so look out for shows near you.

Get their Album here for free.

Anamanaguchi on Myspace
Anamanaguchi Blog (I stole the top picture from their blog)

Before Anamanaguchi was Starscream another New York based 8 bit band. Unlike Anamanaguchi, Starscream only has a gameboy and a drummer. In some ways this makes their music so much more raw. The band consists of Damon Hardjowirogo and George Stroud, both really cool guys ( I got to really get to know them at brunch when I saw with them).

Their live show was just fucking crazy (though a bit short). I stood on the side next to Pete from Anamanguchi and just marveled at them. Damon has such an amazing stage prescence and he just gets so into it. I just turned to Pete and was like (remember everybody I was sober) they’re incredible. He smiled and was like “yeah” and proceeded to tell me the whole story of how they met and started making this music.

These guys are gonna blow up soon, so watch out.

Well it looks like our boy Heero is back at it again, this time around he’s bringing us the WST (Worlds Smallest Transformers) version of G2 Starscream… AND G2 Ramjet.

G2 Starscream

Starscream had been damaged to the point of stasis lock when the Ark crashed on Earth for a second time. Megatron, apparently the only one to recover from the crash more or less unscathed, decided to revive Starscream. He would later question his own judgement in doing so, but in his defense, the only other Decepticons involved in the crash had been Shockwave and Galvatron (and Galvatron had walked away from the crash anyway), so his options for loyalty were slim.

Predictably, though, Starscream would indeed betray Megatron and the Decepticons once again, this time by giving Jhiaxus and his troops information that allowed them to take control of the Decepticon flagship Warworld. Starscream then doublecrossed Jhiaxus, stole the Creation Matrix (which Megatron had stolen from Prime earlier) and used its powers to merge himself with the Warworld, becoming an unstoppable force of destruction. As Optimus Prime and Megatron entered the possessed ship to try and stop him, Starscream exhibited a startling control over the physical nature of the vessel, turning the Warworld into an ever-shifting maze of horrors to torment the two leaders. But when they confronted him face-to-face, he found that the Matrix was having a disagreeable effect on his own mind. He found himself wanting to be, in his own words, “good”. He desperately gave the Matrix back to Prime in the hopes that the effect would be temporary. This reverted Starscream to his ordinary form, presumably severing his connection with the ship.

-TFWiki

G2 Ramjet

In the early days of the Decepticon offensive, Ramjet participated in the annihilation of the city-state known as Praxus and its inhabitants. At Megatron’s behest, Ramjet shielded an unwitting Autobot named Bluestreak from harm during the devastation, ensuring that one living survivor would live to tell the tale of the fall of Praxus…and the might of Megatron.

Ramjet was under the command of Shockwave in his assault on the Autobot stronghold in Iacon shortly after the death of Sentinel Prime and the rise of Optimus Prime. After Megatron disappeared in a space bridge accident with Optimus Prime, Ramjet came to serve under Shockwave.

After Shockwave was dethroned, Ramjet escaped capture by Autobot authorities and met with Shockwave’s remaining troops in the wastelands. They remained there until the Predacons overthrew Shockwave in the name of Megatron, and Ramjet and the Coneheads returned to his control.

After the Great Shutdown, he continued working for Shockwave as one of his top agents, and joined his expedition to Earth to forcibly collect the crews of the Ark and Nemesis. After Ultra Magnus arrived to take command of the team attempting to arrest the Optimus Prime’s Autobots, Ramjet disobeyed orders and made a foolhardy dash for the Ark, only to be cut down in a hail of autogun fire.

-TFWiki

The verdict is still out on rather or not Heero’s creations are considered knock offs, customs, or garage kit figures… this all depends on who you ask. I tend to think of them as pre-assembled garage kit figures. Regardless of how anyone categorizes them, he still remains a notable toy maker and deserving of respect among the collector community. Granted, he may not have a huge selection in his arsenal, but the stuff that he produces is consistent and the quality is always good.

Over the past year or so I’ve ordered several sets of his WST Seekers and have always been pleased with them. One thing that caught my attention, from the first time I ordered, is that he includes a resealable molded plastic tray and top with every figure. This set however goes a bit beyond his normal standards and also includes a miniature reproduction of Starscream and Ramjets instructions, serving as the proverbial cherry on the top to give that extra little bit of flair to this set and prove that he strives to put out a quality product.

The core of each figure is on par with the official Takara WST G1 Starscream, staying in scale with both WST Starscream and Thrust, but with added articulation that allows for a bit more pose ability when in bot mode. Most notably is the added hip articulation allowing you to pivot the legs slightly outward which in turn allows the wings to fold back properly; giving them a more realistic foot spacing while standing. Also Starscream’s tail fins have been modified from the Takara version; consisting of 2 separate pieces. This allows him to more closely mimic the original Generation 1, and subsequent Generation 2, transformation schemes.

The accessories on these figures are almost perfect miniature reproductions of the original G2 accessories included with the full-sized figures. The main differences being that the missiles don’t fire and that the sound boxes don’t have the electronics needed to make any noise; both are very reasonable concessions when considering the tiny size of these figures.

As a whole these are some solid figures, and the only lackluster feature that keeps them from being truly phenomenal is the tendency of the plastic to look slightly brown under normal lighting. This is easily overlooked and not that noticeable, especially considering the material that they are made of. The plastic itself is rather high quality and rather sturdy. While not the commercial quality plastic that most collectors are used to, it is a far cry from the low-grade material that is so commonly used on things like the Devastator knock offs so often found at discount stores here in the U.S.

While these items easily fall into a niche market consisting of WST Collectors, people who collect the less popular G2 line, or are Seeker Collectors, I highly recommend these figures. Even if your plastic crack habit doesn’t consist of the afore-mentioned flavors, they are unique and make a great conversation piece when showing off your collection.

I won’t profess to know too much about Transformers–I’ve always been a Batman fan and my knowledge of the DC Universe is generally my only area of full-on geek expertise. But if there’s one way to win me over to another fandom, it’s to put a cape on it. Which is exactly what’s been done with the two newest additions to our Takara Transformers collection. While looking for figures to post about, I read the words ‘crown’ and ‘cape’ and was already sold.

Frankly, though, I have to ask what the Cybertronian tailors are usually doing with their time because as I understand it, there aren’t a lot of occasions on which clothes are needed for the robots in disguise. But whatever the answer is, they’ve made some fine capes for these metal men and you can snag ‘em now over in the Transformers section of CmdStore.

Also new from Transformers, look out for new figures from this summer’s Transformers 2, some Generation 1 reissues (like the Insecticons 3-pack exclusive) and some new items for the Encore collection. Check ‘em all out!

When Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen came out in theators in the summer of 2009, it was widely criticized for having a plot that one could not follow or that didn’t make sense. Now that the movie is out on BluRay (or DVD), people have been able to watch it again.

So… are there plot holes? Or can they be explained?

SPOILER WARNING (if you haven’t watched the movie)

1. How come there were two pieces of the All Spark? I thought at the end of Transformers 1, Optimus Prime only pulled one shard from Megatron’s chest. In Revenge of the Fallen, the All Spark shard is the one protected in the military hide-out that Ravage (jaguar decepticon) and his Reed-Man bot steals. The other All Spark piece, referred to as the sliver, was found by Sam at home. It was a piece that was stuck to his wool hoodie from the first movie.

2. Why didn’t Sam Witwicky (Shia LeBeouf) use the All Spark sliver that he gave to Mikaela (Megan Fox) to revive Optimus Prime? In the first movie, we see that the All Spark was able to give Frenzy (the little guy who transformed into a CD player) his body back and give life to electronic machines/devices (cell phone, xbox, etc). Similarly in Revenge of the Fallen, we see the sliver gave life to small kitchen appliances like the cappaccino maker, phone, blender, etc. We never see the All Spark give life to a large machine. We know it didn’t bring back Bumblebee’s legs at the end of the first movie. We know the shard didn’t bring back Jazz to life. From these observations, the All Spark sliver or the All Spark shard do NOT have the ability to bring back a large transformer to life who was dead.

Yes, the sliver is used on Jetfire, but he was NOT dead. He was in some type of “stasis nap”. He mentions how without Energon, the transformers deterioate. He likely went in this “stasis nap” to preserve himself. The sliver re-awakened him.

2. How come Megatron was “revived” by an All Spark shard when it was the All Spark that “killed” him in the first movie? I’m confused. The full All Spark is too much power to be absorbed by a Transformer. Sam overloaded Megatron at the end of Transformers 1 by putting it into Megatron’s chest. It did knock Megatron out. However, whether he was dead or not is speculation. Our feeling is that Megatron was in some type of stasis-lock. “The Doctor”, a.k.a. Scapel (the little microscope decepticon), is obviously an expert on how Transformers work and the history of the symbols of the ancient Transformers. His knowledge of the All Spark was probably also superior to others. Put these facts together, and it’s no surprise he knew how to get Megatron out of the stasis-lock using parts (and possibly the “spark”) from another constructicon and the All Spark shard.

3. When the decepticons descended in the ocean, the Navy said there were 5 decepticons. At the bottom one of them was killed for parts (for Megatron’s revival), but when they ascended, the Navy said there were 6 decepticons. Isn’t 5 minus 1 plus 1 = 5? Most people forget that “The Doctor” came out of Ravage’s mouth at the bottom of the ocean. Therefore he was not detected when Ravage and the constructicons descended to the ocean. We can assume that he did show up on radar on the way back up. This accounts for 6.

4. How did the Helicopter guy (Blackout from Transformers 1) get revived? It’s not Blackout. He’s a little more white-ish and his name is Grindor. Yes, it could have been explained better. The proof lies in the toy made of the guy. Apparently it’s a clone of Blackout or decepticon of the same size who chose the same alt. mode as Blackout. (More on clones later on in this article…)

5. Why didn’t the Fallen show up earlier? First of all, he was old like Jetfire. You’ll notice that on the Nemesis (the crashed ship on Mars), the Fallen is attached to some stuff. He likely was resting trying to keep himself “healthy” due to the lack of Energon. Secondly, he was waiting for Optimus Prime to be killed since only a Prime could match up against him.

6. How come after the construction vehicles (constructicons) form Devastator, we see some of those same constructicons fighting individually in robot mode? How are they in two places at once? Also, how did Bonecrusher (from Transformers 1) get alive again and show up in the desert fighting? In Transformers lore, there were clones. In the original 80’s cartoon, there were clones of the decepticon jets Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker and there were insecticon clones. There were autobots with similar alt. modes too (Bumblebee and Cliffjumper, Sideswipe and Red Alert, Trailbreaker and Hoist, etc…). So, in Revenge of the Fallen, the multiple constructions must be because of clones. Same goes for the bot that looks just like Bonecrusher (alt. mode = military “buffalo”). More evidence of clones is how the Excavator decepticon (Demolisher) in the beginning of the movie (who was killed) is similar to the Excavator who starts Devastator’s transformation at the end of the movie (this Excavator is called “Scavenger” on the toy packaging).

7. Why are there decepticons that look kinda like Megatron near the end of the movie fighting against the US Military? These decepticons came from the Nemesis and had no need for an Earth alt. mode since their primary objective was to stop Sam from reaching Optimus Prime with the matrix and to steal the Matrix to use it for the machine (in the pyramid) that destroys the sun for Energon. You’ll recall that Megatron (in his arrogance) never had an Earth alt. mode either. Remember how in Transformers 1, Optimus, Jazz, and Ironhide look very similar until they scan Earth vehicles for their alt. mode. This proves that Transformers can look very similar in their “protoform” state before scanning an Earth vehicle. Furthermore, these decepticon no-name drones/clones are the “cannon fodder” that no movie viewer cares gets killed.

8. When Sam is trying to get the Matrix to Optimus’ body, why didn’t he just take Bumblebee in Camaro mode? He did… well, at first that was the plan. But then Starscream attacked them. Sam made a plan for Bumblebee to go off by himself as a decoy and the Twins to go off as other decoys. Meanwhile he and Mikaela went by foot — something the decepticons wouldn’t expect. He later had Bumblebee take his parents to safety, probably because he cared so much about them being safe. Probably more so than his own life, one could argue.

9. Why are there Transformers that talk “ghetto talk”? (The autobot twins) They are basically autobot kids. Meaning, they’re young like kids are. You know how kids/youth will talk in ways adults won’t. Same goes here with the autobot twins, Skids and Mudflap. Remember, in Transformers 1, Optimus Prime said the autobots learned Earth’s languages through the World Wide Web. Skids and Mudflap, being young, must have liked this “ghetto talk”.

10. Why are all three autobot female bikes called “Arcee”? The writers of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen orginally intended for the three “Arcee bikes” to combine together. You can see concept art on the 2nd Bonus DVD or BluRay disk. This plan was apparently a late scratch. Toys were made of (currently) two of the three bikes. The blue one was called Chromia (after a blue female G1 character) and the red one was called Arcee. The purple one is rumored to be called either Elita One or Flare-up.

11. The Matrix? A decepticon that transforms into a girl? Why are they ripping ideas from other movies? The Matrix was actually an essential part to the 80’s original cartoon. In the 1986 cartoon Transformers Movie, the Matrix of Leadership was passed on from Optimus Prime and eventually inherited by Rodimus Prime, a new leader. So… Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen did NOT steal from “The Matrix” (the movie). As far as the transformer whose alt. mode was the college girl (played by Isabel Lucas), that also is based on old Transformers lore. In the late 80’s, when Transformers cartoons stopped in America, Japan continued making Transformers Cartoons. In “Transformers: Super-God Masterforce” (1988), there were Transformers called Pretenders. These Pretenders “transformed” into a human-look-a-like mode. The Alice character in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was inspired from this.

12. Why couldn’t Bumblebee talk in Revenge of the Fallen? Wasn’t his voice working at the end of Transformers 1? Good question. Haven’t figured that out yet…

Some would argue that so many questions or the fact that some people have to watch the movie twice to figure it all out means it’s not a good movie. Did those same critics say the same thing about Mission Impossible (with Tom Cruise) or The Lord of the Rings? Many people had to watch those movies more than once or ask questions to others (like people who had read the Lord of the Rings books), but yet many enjoyed those movies. You be the judge with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen…
