It is with terrible sadness that yesterday, while the home was still being consumed by blazing fire, that I learned a Puppy, Starshine, had been trapped inside and died.

This little puppy just graduated from my Petco Puppy Class this past Wednesday with Pet Parent Betsy. She was so full of life, energy and smarts!

I got the call from another dog trainer friend, Barbara Darrow, who was going to work with her on Flyball and Dock Dogs and other Border Collie activities! Starshine, also called Star, was a red Border Collie. I was just getting ready to email pictures of her to Betsy, but hadn’t photoshopped them yet.

She will be greatly missed. I know Betsy lost her entire home, barely escaping with her life. Please pray for Betsy as she grieves the loss of her belongings and the loss of Star.

I think I have a fairly large doll collection or at least a fairly substantial one. I keep the grand majority of them housed in my computer nook, my computer nook is a small room off of the living room that is roughly the size of a prison cell. Please note that this is not the entirety of my doll collection as I have roughly half a dozen dolls out on loan/ at the customizers as we speak.

I have almost all of the released pullips/dals (I fell behind on the newest releases because of DDs ^^;) so they make up most of my collection..

I received an offline last week from one of our readers with the suggestion to check out the new Shabby Cat store. Sure, why not? Being an equal opportunity blogger, I headed right on over there to check things out.

Igår var det dags för sista kvällen på Starshine. Nostalgi i massor! Trots att det var ganska många år sedan vi var där sist, kändes det som om vi hade varit där för bara någon vecka sedan.

I am not dead or indeed gone, I just took a week away from SL—and have returned. I put this outfit together before taking my break, so I’m relieved to find that the Ornamental Life sale is still in effect. I grabbed this purple shirt there for 50% off—it’s definitely a sale to check out. I paired the shirt against a pair of black shirts from Iki (which come in two lengths and all layers, which makes them perfect for mixing and matching into other outfits. Wearing one under and one over the Ornamental Life shirt create a new and rather unusual neck/sleeve line. The jean shorts are from Cupcakes and the boots from Shiny Things. The necklace from Miriel adds a spark of matching color which keeps the outfit from appearing all black. I have a fondness for these sort of silky rich textures and dark shades against black, and when I can play with layers (jacket, shirt, undershirt, pants, and underpants layers were all used here) I love them even more.

More from the Bunny Hop hunt, which is full of some wonderful prizes: a dress from Elate, which (as always from the store) has beautiful vivid color and sharp detail, and a necklace from Magika. The dress look lovely on its own, but I couldn’t resist the temptation to layer it with some black for a slightly different, less springy look. I wore the dress it with boots from Shiny Things and a sweater from PixelDolls which, with the top of the dress, creates an unusual neckline which perfectly frames the necklace (and my tattoo). The hair is from ETD which, praise all, finally reopened today.

I’ve seen a couple of people wearing this dress while out on the hunt, and rightly so—it’s lovely. But that’s just one more reason that I never wear things straight out of the box. In part I’m just a control freak, but I also simply like to balance wearing current, popular items against the desire not to look just like everyone else. I love digging into my inventory for layering options or additions to make popular items unique again.

I’ve been in the market for a cropped sweater for a little while now, so when these sweaters from Silent Sparrow went on sale at Fantasma Plaza location (two colors for 100L), I took the plunge. I have two outfits using this sweater on the way; for the first I wore it in black against plenty of blue, just because I love that color combination. The shirt is from Cupcakes and the skirt from PixelDolls, and both items are some of the most useful clothes in my inventory—with the layer options and simple design, they are ideal for mixing and matching into new outfits. The bra beneath is from Winter Moon, the boots are from Shiny Things, and just peeking out under them are socks from Starshine. It brings me strange joy to wear something on every clothing layer as I did here, but more than that I like the layers of vivid blue contrasted against rich black.

E aqui começa um conto terpêutico. Posso escrever todas as coisas que rodam na minha cabeça 25 horas por dia. É que eu não sei parar de pensar. Os médicos já tentam medicar, a família, me desligar. Fazer oq, sou assim. Quero, aqui, exprimir até a última gota de idéias doces e azedas que puder.

Tenho 22 anos e acho que estou velha para jogar bola, virar a noite dançando ou jogando War. Acho que sou nova para ter filho e seguir uma carreira.  Moro em São Paulo, mas se pudesse, me mudaria pro interior. Agora, se eu pudesse sair do país, adoraria morar em Londres. Adoro frio e sonho com neve.

Já que não me consumei jornalista por falta de pura vontade (cara de pau), quero fazer um curso de gastromia e abrir um restaurante. Gosto de moda também. Um restaurante em cima, com varanda, e um bistrô em baixo. Quem sabe…

Namoro e adoro ele. Amo. Moro com pai, mãe, irmã e cachorro   em um apartamento de dois dormitórios na zona sul. No primeiro andar. Minha família é uma bagunça.

Tenho um lado alternativo que fala bem alto! All Star, camiseta branca e jeans surrado. Outro lado é pomposo, glamuroso, de vestido com laço e salto 18.
Rock, pop e eletrônico. Conheço buracos alternativos da noite paulista e os lugares mais agradáveis pra visitar acompanhado durante o dia. Adoro o cheiro das coisas mais simples da vida.

Começo a entender o tempo. Acho que já sei quem sou. Acho que já entendo meus medos.

Mamma Mia – Soundtrack

The earth says hello!

Piri Latte of the new store *starshine* dropped a lovely review pack on me, so let’s skip from cold late winter (where I live, at least) into summer for some warm-weather blue and white. I built an outfit around one of the Starshine shirts, pairing white to the white accents and going for a casual, warm-weather look. The pants are from Viva La Glam, the shoes are classic freebies from Lassitude & Ennui, and I even recolored my glasses white to match. The hair is a old style from Zero Style which, though sculptie-free and perhaps out-dated, is still one of my favorite hairstyles on the grid.

Starshine does socks, too! They look wonderful with a long shirt and a pair of panties, but I’m not quite brave enough to blog that just yet. Still, they are adorable and wonderfully done—just check out the (lack of) seams. Currently the Starshine is limited to just an array of these shirts and socks, but the quality is great and the prices are incredibly low (10-20L)—you should go check them out before Piri comes to her senses and hikes them up.

I also have a hot topic order made up of entirely of Joker and Harley Quinn items and two vinyls (Fallout Boy and My Chemical Romance) on the way . I just now bought a kitty hat for my in progress custom pullip Cheshire and a Zero plush from Nightmare before Christmas. The Zero plush was an unexpected find at the valley of the dolls.

Instrumental black metal… full of diseased guitar lines and agonizing atmosphere dwells on this ambitious and definitely unique/bizarre, 4 song CDr demo from the 2 piece Starshine. Thankfully this project possesses an actual drummer, giving the whole of this material a very organic aura for acidic guitar lines to eat away the listeners sanity and notions about what black metal is “supposed” to be. It has taken me several very tranced out listens to be ok with the fact that there aren’t any vocals on this release, which was initially a big hurdle for me to get over before fully embracing this body of work. U Amtey’s playing style is completely non conventional and his riffs quickly demonstrate that fact as he weaves these vicious guitar rituals that sound as if they arose from the mind of the clinically deranged. Infinitely dissonant and dense guitar lines build an immense amount of tension and just as you think that “this cannot get any thicker or more fucked up”, Amtey somehow introduces gentle harmonies that eventually claw their way out of the writhing pile of coherent, but unnerving distortion, to offer a new avenue of haunting musical deconstruction for us to attempt to wrap our mind around. At first listen, the overall delivery struck me as a Xasthur level of black metal, for the fuzzed out suicidal feelings are certainly at the core of this musical nightmare, but Starshine really prove themselves as being far more tormented and unique in the way they layer this music. Such a completely huge and ugly fucking sound is on display here, yet the bands unique use of melody and layered torment sets them far and away in an elite class of thinking mans black metal, that your average bedroom warrior simply cannot even fathom, let alone hang with creatively. Yes… I will remain steadfast with the opinion that vocals could only make this already menacing project even more so, I still get what they are trying, and have completely accomplished. Even thought this material isn’t something that I’m going to spin daily due to the overwhelming claustrophobic density on display, every time I put on this demo, I’m amazed and disturbed at what I’m hearing and I applaud Starshine for their brave innovation in a genre filled with faceless sheep. – Marty

Selle nädala kultuuriprogramm viis mind Londoni uusimat muuseumi uudistama. Mr.Ripley´s Maailma kummaliste asjade kogu, avati siin alles augusti lõpus ja oma ebatavalisusega intrigeeeris see end kaema. Muuseum oleks selle koha kohta küll liiast öelda, pigem ehk teemapark(mitte küll pargis, vaid Londoni südames Piccadillis). Saime Sirtzuga 2 for1 diili, misjärel meid lifti juhatati ning otse viiendale korrusele sõitma pandi. Samal ajal liftis mingid imelikud tulukesed ja hääled: „Prepare yourself for the adventure of your lifetime!!“ Mulle ei meeldi mingid imelikud hääled minuga liftis! Juba ootasin, et nüüd lastakse seinad ka ringi käima, kuid õnneks siiski sai enne välja. Eksponaate täis ruumi, kus peale meie polnud ainsamatki hingelist(olime olematute masside vältimiseks saabunud juba enne lõunat), küll aga hulgi kummalisi esemeid, vahakujusid, dinosauruseid, kolme peaga sigu – ühesõnaga nagu mingi ´madhouse´! Kui vanasti oli muuseum koht, täis passiivselt lebavaid asju, mistõttu see tänapäeva hüperaktiivset publikut enam eriti ei paelu, siis see koht oli muudetud nii ameerikalikult interaktiivseks, et pressis end vaatajale täiega peale, ning ausaltöeldes esialgset distantsi eelistavas eestlaslikus minus tekitas küll pigem kahtlustust. No pikapeale selgus, et me polnud seal siiski ainsad inimesed ja oma pealetükkivusele ja eklektilisusele vaatamata oli see ´muuseum´ siiski täitsa huvitav. Meie absoluutseks lemmikuks sai viimane atraktsioon – u 10m pikkune koridor, seintel ringiratast liikuva projektsiooniga, mis tekitas mulje liikuvast ruumist, kus ei saanud sirgelt kõndidagi! Veetsime seal oma 15min, justkui karussellil, justkui pilves, midagi tarbimata.

Õhtul pubis tööl tundus ühe kliendi nägu kahtlaselt tuttav. Ja teadagi, kuidas mul nende tuttavate nägudega lood on. Kui ta tuli õlut ostma, küsisin:

Idag ska vi till Tobbe, han fyllde 18 år i fredags o då hade han inte tid med oss

Jag kommer ihåg när jag fyllde 18år.  Det var en torsdag och jag gick såklart till Starshine! Där var jag varje torsdag fram till jag fyllde 20år sen var jag där varje lördag oxå. Där blev jag tillsammans med Andreas.

Maria min storasyster, man tyckte då att hon var så mycket äldre, men det skiljer bara 3 år tog först med mej på en barrunda.

Vi var på DG (Donna Gina) som det kallades då och jag sjöng såklart karaoke.

Ja, det var tider det…..

Som alla vet köpte kommunen Starshine förra året för att förhindra att Bandidos skulle lägga beslag på lokalen. Enligt mig bara ett smart sätt för säljarna att säga att Bandidos var intresserade så “erbjöd” man kommunen att köpa!

Nu vill Ystadbostäder riva fastigheten och bygga ett nytt 5 våningshus med bostäder. Tråkigt tycker jag! Det passar väl inte in i stadsbilden?

En dröm enligt mig hade varit att inrätta en sportbar på nedervåningen och sedan ha kontorslokaler på våning 2 och 3. Vilket företag hade inte velat ha sådana lokaler med fin utsikt över torget?

‘Sateliţii copiilor’, acesta-i numele pe care sînt tentat să-l dau unei ‘Porţi Stelare’ foarte concrete, cunoscută sub acronimul STARSHINE, prescurtarea de la Student-Tracked Atmospheric Research Satellite for Heuristic International Networking Experiment , ce aminteşte titlul unui cântec de mare succes lansat în anii şaptezeci în musicalul rock ‘Hair’, compus de William Oliver Swofford.

Proiectul STARSHINE, program educaţional eşalonat pe 11 ani, adresându-se copiilor de şcoală din toată lumea pentru a ajuta la construcţia unor sateliţi şi a învăţa despre cauzele naturale ce le modifică orbitele, a planificat cinci sateliţi, din care până acum au fost lansaţi numai trei. Unul dintre ei a şi ‘murit’, era vorba despre Starshine 1, instalat pe orbită pe data de 5 iunie 1999, la 387 kilometri deasupra Pământului, de misiunea STS-96 a navetei Discovery.

După opt luni şi jumătate, coborând pe o spirală, satelitul Starshine 1 a intrat în atmosfera Pământului , undeva deasupra Oceanului Atlantic, lângă ţărmul brazilian, arzând complet şi planificat la înălţimea de 80 km. Printr-o coincidenţă din care nu încercăm să desprindem vreo semnificaţie, moartea satelitului Starshine 1 s-a întâmplat doar la câteva zile după moartea autorului melodiei ‘Good morning, Starshine’.

‘Deci totul a început cu un eşec ?’, ar putea suna o întrebare grăbită. Nu, dimpotrivă, aceasta-i dovada unui succes. Nici un fel de resturi ale sateliţilor Starshine nu aveau voie să ajungă până la suprafaţa Pământului ; preţul cerut de companiile de asigurări pentru un asemenea risc era de 100 de milioane de dolari!

Într-adevăr, poate că numele Starshine nu este chiar cel mai grăitor pentru ilustrarea acestui program, titulatura revelatoare ar fi fost ‘proiectul stelei căzătoare’ (Project Falling Star) ; pentru că scopul fiecăruia dintre cei cinci sateliţi este o reintrare planificată şi spectaculoasă în atmosfera Pământului. După cum spunea fizicianul Max Born, de câte ori vezi o ’stea căzătoare ‘ trebuie să-ţi spui o dorinţă, iar aceasta se va împlini. Dorinţa autorilor proiectului, profesorul de astronautică Gil Moore şi soţia sa Phyllis, a fost de a folosi aceşti ’sateliţi ai copiilor’ la antrenarea elevilor din şcolile Pământului la studiul interacţiunii mecanice între un obiect orbital pe o traiectorie joasă şi atmosfera planetei noastre. Bineînţeles, satelitul Starshine 1 a avut şi defectele sale, ce nu au fost ascunse. De exemplu, el nu putea să se rotească în jurul axei sale, defect ce a fost remediat la următorul satelit pus pe orbită, Starshine 3. Deci numerotarea sateliţilor nu s-a făcut în ordinea cronologică a lansării lor.

Satelitul Starshine 3 a fost lansat dintr-un loc mirific prin puritatea şi sălbăticia naturii sale, insula Kodiak, situată la 250 km de Anchorage, capitala statului Alaska, ultimul ’stat frontieră’ american, lângă ţărmurile căruia înoată balenele, pe câmpiile căruia pasc bizonii şi aleargă caii sălbatici. Dintre toate cosmodroamele lumii, Kodiak este cel mai recent inaugurat; anterior misiunii Starshine 3, de pe Kodiak mai fuseseră lansate trei misiuni suborbitale, de fapt trei tiruri aproape normale ale unor rachete din dotarea forţelor aeriene americane. Lansarea lui Starshine 3 a suferit o serie de amânări, prima fiind provocată de atacul de la World Trade Center din 11 septembrie 2001, ducând la întreruperea legăturilor aeriene în SUA timp de câteva zile. Au urmat amânări produse de vremea nefavorabilă, de un radar care nu funcţiona, apoi de o puternică furtună solară. Abia pe 29 septembrie 2001, racheta Lockheed Martin Athena 1 a ridicat spre cer încărcătura ei din patru sateliţi, numiţi în comun Kodiak Star, iar individual: PICOSat, PCSat, Sapphire şi Starshine 3.

PICOSat era un satelit tehnologic demonstrativ, incorporand patru experimente, între care teste cu o baterie flexibilă din polimeri, precum şi folosirea GPS pentru a studia impacturile ionosferice asupra semnalelor din comunicaţii şi navigaţie. PCSat, prescurtarea de la Prototype Communications Satellite, a fost proiectat de studenţii de la U.S. Naval Academy pentru a fi utilizat ca releu de radioamatori. Sapphire reprezintă şi el un satelit studenţesc, destinat testării sensorilor pentru infraroşii în spaţiu ; satelitul are de asemenea o cameră digitală şi un sintetizator de voce pentru a converti mesaje de text în voce umană pe frecvenţe destinate radioamatorilor. În fine, Starshine 3 este un satelit al elevilor din 26 de ţări ce participă la proiect pe bază de voluntariat.Racheta Athena 1 a ajuns pe orbita prescrisă, la o oră şi cinci minute după lansare, unde a largat primii trei sateliţi, cei plătiţi de Departamentul Apărării, la 500 de mile deasupra Pământului. Şaisprezece minute mai târziu, racheta a coborât pe o traiectorie mai joasă, exact acolo unde-i ‘franjul’, ori marginea atmosferei terestre. Satelitul Starshine 3 a fost instalat pe orbita polară înclinată cu 67 de grade faţă de planul ecuatorului, la două ore şi zece minute după startul rachetei Athena 1. Satelitul Starshine 3 este echipat şi cu un mic radio-transmiţător. Semnalul său a fost captat prima oară de un radioamator de la staţiunea antarctică Palmer, care l -a contactat imediat pe directorul proiectului STARSHINE, după care un jubilant Gil Moore a anunţat succesul pe postul NASA TV.

Aşa cum am lăsat deja să se înţeleagă, ordinea sateliţilor din proiectul STARSHINE a fost 1 ; 3 ; 2. Aceasta s-a întâmplat datorită condiţionării instalării lui Starshine 2 de misiunea STS-108 a navetei Endeavour, cu un take -off amânat de nenumărate ori. În fine, pe 6 decembrie 2001 Endeavour şi-a început misiunea. În cala navetei se afla şi satelitul Starshine 2, construit înaintea lui Starshine 3. El a a fost primul minisatelit la care s-au aplicat învăţămintele deduse din lecţia oferită de Starshine 1 ; astfel, versiunea Starshine 2 a incorporat pentru prima oară un mecanism de rotire a satelitului în jurul unei axe trecând prin centrul său de greutate, folosind un jet de azot.

Proiectul STARSHINE antrenează participarea copiilor şcolari prin realizarea de piese funcţionale efectiv incorporate în sateliţi, precum şi prin urmărirea evoluţiei lor încet coborâtoare, dar spectaculoase, prin atmosferă. Care sunt piesele tehnologice pregătite de copii ? Nişte mici discuri de aluminiu , cu diametrul de un ţol, şlefuite până la, hai să nu -i zicem perfecţiune, căci ar însemna ceva de neatins, ci până la un maximum de putere reflectoare. Copiii sunt responsabili pentru şlefuirea acestor oglinzi de aluminiu ce sunt fixate apoi la exteriorul sateliţilor sferici Starshine . “Noi le dăm toate materialele de care au nevoie, iar ei le pregătesc până ce devin plane şi strălucitoare”, spune Gil Moore. Pentru primul satelit Starshine, Moore şi soţia lui Phyllis au depus o muncă herculeană la distribuirea kiturilor cu materiale şcolilor participante, apoi la colectarea oglinzilor finisate. Proiectul Starshine a permis copiilor de şcoală de pe tot globul să participe la pregătirea pieselor pentru sateliţii ‘Disco Ball’, cum au mai fost supranumiţi . Fiecare şcoală înscrisă la proiect a primit două discuri de aluminiu, diferite tipuri de paste şi lubricant pentru şlefuire, foi cu instrucţiuni şi o casetă video demonstrativă.

Copiii şcolilor participante la proiect au răspuns cu entuziasm: “Ideea de a lucra la o oglindă care va zbura pe o navă spaţială le-a stârnit interesul”, spunea un profesor de la o şcoală implicată ; “Putem atinge un obiect ce va pleca în cosmos”, declara impresionat de gândul acesta ‘trancendental’ unul dintre ei . “Punem oxid de aluminiu pe o placă de sticlă, pe care discul de aluminiu e supus unei deplasări în forma cifrei 8″, explica un alt copil mai puţin entuziasmat unui ziarist local ce se interesa de activităţile cu implicaţii spaţiale din şcoala lor. Dar intruziunea unui singur grăunte de praf între aluminiu şi sticlă poate strica totul. Menţinerea curăţeniei în timpul procesului de prelucrare şi atenţia intens focalizată pe fiecare detaliu sunt două aspecte importante ale pregătirii oglinzilor. Şlefuirea unei singure oglinzi la perfecţie necesită cinci ore ; în funcţie de şcoală, această activitate este efectuată de un singur elev, ori divizată într-o activitate de echipă, când fiecare copil are dreptul numai la 20 de minute de muncă. Pentru satelitul 1 s-au folosit 878 de oglinzi, 845 pentru minisatelitul 2, şi 1500 au fost lipite pe Starshine 3. Adunaţi, apoi mai puneţi un zero pentru aflarea numărului total de ore de muncă. Muncă brută ? Da, şi nu prea. Întrucât unitatea de optică geometrică aflată la adresa www.riverdeep.science îi învăţa pe elevi cum ‘lucrează’ oglinzile ; iar în timpul prelucrării le mai sunt prezentate, într-o formă uşor accesibilă, noţiuni de optică ondulatorie, folosirea ‘franjelor de interferenţă’ pentru testarea planeităţii oglinzilor , cu lumină aflată aproape la maximul sensibilităţii vizuale a ochiului omenesc, adică având lungimea de undă cam de o jumătate de micron. Ca să dea cele mai bune rezultate, oglinzile ’starshine’ au voie să se abată de la planeitate doar cu maximum 10 lungimi de undă, ceea face 50 de microni. Oglinzile au fost testate la Marshall Space Flight Center, găsindu-se o eroare maximă de două lungimi de undă, însă majoritatea nu se abăteau cu mai mult de o jumătate de lungime de undă de la ideal, adică oglinzile ieftine de metal pregătite de copii s-au dovedit la fel de bune ca nişte oglinzi mult mai scumpe de cristal.

Întrucât oglinzile urmau să zboare în atmosfera înaltă, cu foarte mult oxigen atomic acţionând ’sălbatic’ asupra metalului, ele au fost acoperite cu un strat protector din dioxid de siliciu. Oxigenul atomic provine din acţiunea razelor ultraviolete solare asupra oxigenului molecular. Fiind mai puţin densă decât oxigenul molecular, ‘atomica’ atmosferă înaltă a Pământului se umflă în vremea intensificării activităţii solare, când sunt expulzaţi protoni şi ultraviolete în exces. Activitatea solară e periodică, fiecare ciclu solar durează 11 ani, chiar pe această durată a fost gândit proiectul STARSHINE.

Răspunzând amortizării produse de atmosferă, orbita unui minisatelit Starshine îşi strânge mereu volutele, iar aceasta-i o indicaţie despre variaţia densităţii aerului la foarte mari înălţimi, acolo unde se află staţia ISS, care-i afectată şi ea de fenomen. La vizita din decembrie 2001 a navetei Endeavour, aceasta a îndeplinit şi funcţia de remorcher împingător, ridicând staţia orbitală cu 15 km.

Zburând pe orbita polară, satelitul Starshine 2, largat pe 16 decembrie 2001, este vizibil în lumina crepusculară, adică înainte de răsărit ori după apus, pentru orice observator terestru aflat între latitudinile de 62 de grade nord şi sud. Şcolile care participă la proiectul STARSHINE primesc instrucţiuni detaliate privind modul de observare a minisateliţilor cu oglinzi. Dar nici pentru eventualii outsideri, observarea şi participarea activă la program nu este interzisă. Poate că şi aici se ascunde o parte din frumuseţea programului, oricine se poate înscrie ‘din mers’. Mergeţi la un computer, intraţi pe internet, şi căutaţi www.heavens-above.com. Acolo trebuie să vă înregistraţi, ceea ce e gratuit şi nu implică riscuri. Lista ‘default’ a localităţilor de pe glob de unde se aşteaptă observatori este imensă. Dintr-un zel prea mare al celor care au alcătuit lista, Heavens Above.Com ne prezintă însă şi localităţi suplimentare, care nu există pe hartă. Astfel, situl respectiv îmi propunea să aleg între două Craiove, una pe coordonatele bine-cunoscute de mine, alta situată cu aproape două grade de latitudine mai la nord! Oricum, iată un sfat util pentru profesorii scolilor din Romania care vor să se înscrie acum la proiect: Aflaţi mai întâi coordonatele şcolii cu un GPS împrumutat, ori de pe o hartă obişnuită, printr-o interpolare ‘de bun-simţ’. Înscriind coordonatele pe situl arătat, puteţi afla exact orele la care vor putea fi observaţi minisateliţii elevilor, cu zece zile înainte, aşa că aveţi timp suficient pentru organizarea echipei de ‘observatori ai cerului’. Alături de rubricile zilei şi orei apar coordonatele cereşti ale satelitului, notate Alt., care înseamnă înălţimea unghiulară deasupra orizontului, şi Az., adică azimutul, exprimat pur şi simplu ca direcţie pe roza vânturilor. Datorită vizibilităţii crepusculare, înălţimea satelitului este cam de zece grade; pentru a vă face o idee despre ce înseamnă un grad, să spunem că aceasta este înălţimea unei persoane adulte, aflată în picioare la distanţa de 100 de metri de noi.

Traiectoria satelitului pe cerul crepuscular e trasată până la momentul intrării în umbra Pământului ; pe traiectorie sunt marcate cu liniuţe poziţiile după fiecare 15 secunde. Copiii ‘observatori’ vor fi învăţaţi mai întâi cum să surprindă mersul satelitului printre astre şi să-l poziţioneze pe harta cerească — trasă anterior la imprimantă — ‘personalizată’ a localităţii respective, la ora de observare. Ei mai au nevoie de cronometre digitale, există pe piaţă ceasuri electronice relativ ieftine ce au incorporată şi funcţia de cronometru. Când se vede primul flash al satelitului se porneşte cronometrul ; se numără apoi cinci flashuri, se opreşte cronometrul şi se citeşte rezultatul. Cifrele respective se vor trimite pe adresa gilmoore12@aol.com. Însă dacă vreţi să participaţi la un asemenea proiect începând chiar cu fabricarea oglinzilor, grăbiţi-vă! Căci NASA a aprobat deja transportul sateliţilor Starshine 4 şi 5 cu misiunea STS-114 din ianuarie 2003 a navetei. În noua misiune, un satelit va fi mai greu, altul mai uşor, amândoi având aceeaşi configuraţie externă. Vă amintiţi de Galileo Galilei şi de celebra experienţă cu ghiuleaua de tun şi glonţul de muschetă lăsate să cadă la acelaşi moment din vârful turnului din Pisa ? Legenda spunea că amândouă au ajuns la sol exact în acelaşi timp, iar pe baza ei s-a formulat echivalenţa dintre masa inerţială şi masa gravitaţională. Ei bine, legenda e falsă. Deoarece corpurile sunt influenţate în mod diferit de interacţiunea cu aerul. Într-un fel, misiunea lui Starshine 4 şi 5 ’speculează’ tocmai această abatere de la legendă. Astfel, prin trasarea mişcării celor doi sateliţi de mase diferite, se va putea afla cu o mai mare precizie densitatea atmosferei înalte a Pământului. O mulţime de resturi ale unor misiuni precedente se află chiar la înălţimile unde evoluează acum navetele şi staţia cosmică internaţională. Cunoaşterea densităţii atmosferei cu acurateţe mai mare va permite manevrarea mai bună a navetei spaţiale pentru evitarea ciocnirilor cu asemenea piese de mult uitate pe orbită.Titus Filipas

Vi är många som vuxit upp med Starshine på torsdagar och lördagar, minnena är många.

Jag minns alla förfester i en mattaffär på lilla östergatan Jag och min polare, låt oss kalla honom “mattan” Drack åtskilliga liter med Gaimers olde english cider i den affären! En liter cider och sedan bort till Starshine, fan vad kul vi hade!

Jag minns en torsdag för länge sedan när Janne kom fram till mig och en kompis i baren, han frågade mig: -du har väl inget stamkort? Nä, det hade jag ju inte. -Då är det på tiden att vi fixar det, sa han. Jäklar vad glad man blev! Nu kunde man ju komma in gratis!

Vad jag minns allra bäst från Starshinetiden är ju den 26 oktober 1996. Det var då som jag och Challe så att säga blev tillsammans, där mitt på dansgolvet fann vi varandra!

Ja, minnena är många men nu är det slut, musiken har tystnat, ölen är uppdrucken och publiken har hittat andra ställen att roa sig. Det är väl så livet är? Life goes on…
