I uprioritert rekkefølge vil jeg ta for meg hennes påstander først;

Er det slik at SVs grunnleggende filosofi dreier seg rundt ”out of sight, out of mind” – tankegangen?

Torkild Strandvik.

It takes an open mind to incorporate the lessons that Norway can teach the rest of the world about the value of women on corporate boards. Two years ago, most publicly-traded Norwegian boards themselves had to be forced by law to accept women in any sort of real numbers. Traditional feminists (if there is such a term!) who believe that men and women are not only equal but the same may be tempted to reject the positive differences between men and women that the Norwegian board members say they experience. And men in charge of corporations everywhere who have genuinely tried to on-board women and either 1) not found them, or 2) found them lacking will have to re-examine how well they actually tackled that task…

Just time for a quick update before my next phone-call. I have been working a lot on various decks looking at industry solutions that use or leverage WebSphere MQ and ESB solutions from IBM. A number of them, certainly in engineering industries such as Chemical and Petroleum, or Energy and Utilities, already use solutions like WebSphere Sensor Events or have the potential to use them in the future. And there are also clear benefits to other industries like Retail or distribution. All sorts really – at Impact I sat in a very good session talking about how Airbus uses RFID sensors to keep track of the parts of planes they are building. After all it is so easy to lose an Airbus A380…

We have referred to this as the Internet of Things. There is a great example of this from Andy Stanford-Clark and his house that Tweets. But the more I read about this, the more interesting I can see this getting. Clearly this requires some level of investment from businesses to leverage, but the greater the connectivity throughout their infrastructure, the more opportunities will arise. The economy today drives businesses to look to cut costs and drive growth. Extending connectivity through these devices and increasing business awareness truly looks to be transformative. I will look to give more examples and cover this more going forward

It’s official: Gazprom will take more partners for it’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) Shto

It’s official: Gazprom will take more partners for it’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) Shtokman project. Regular readers of this blog and our mother site, www.oilandgaseurasia.com, will be aware that our experts have long predicted Gazprom would likely take more partners to help it exploit the Shtokman gas field. First came the surprise news that French company Total would be awarded partnership status in Shtokman. Then came a series of official statements from the other potential partners, ConocoPhillips and the Norwegian company Norsk Hydro, that they would still be open to involvment despite Total’s award. Finally, last week, Gazprom slashed investment in Shtokman by more than half, highlighting their need for third party investment. And now, Gazprom chairman, Dmitry Medvedev, has told Reuters “co-participation in this project makes sense for Gazprom. There could be two models for this — it could be where our partners join the project as fully fledged participants in the equity of the joint company, or as … contractors which in my view … could create a little less stability in relations.”

We at Oil and Gas Eurasia feel it is likely that when Statoil and Norsk Hydro complete their merger in October, a deal between the new Norwegian company and Gazprom will be struck to bring to bear the new company’s deep water and Arctic expertise in the tough Barents Sea conditions of the Shtokman field.

ConocoPhilips, who, according to their CEO, have already been asked by Gazprom to re-enter talks on the Shtokman project, are another likely candidate due to the access and marketing power they can provide in the US market — the envisaged final destination for Shtokman’s LNG.

Regular readers of this blog will be aware that Oil and Gas Eurasia’s resident experts don’t think for one moment the Shtokman saga ended with Gazprom’s allocation of a 25% share in the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) project to French oil and gas firm, Total. And today, two news stories have emerged that seem to confirm this. First, various news agencies reported that Gazprom have made significant changes to their 2007 investment plan, including cutting the Shtokman Budget by more than half.

Second, Norsk Hydro, the Norwegian oil and gas company currently in the process of merging with Statoil, threw their hat back into the Shtokman ring, according to the Financial Times.

Norsk Hydro’s chief executive, Eivind Reiten, claimed in the Financial Times that there was still a chance for Norsk Hydro to get involved in Shtokman in spite of Gazprom’s choice of Total of France as its main development partner.

Of course, on its own, it may appear that Norsk Hydro are merely maintaining their position after ConocoPhillips made their own Shtokman statement recently. But combined with the Barents Observer report today that Gazprom have downscaled their Shtokman investment program from $671 Million to $265 million, Reiten’s statement takes on new significance.

According to the Barents observer, even before today’s investment plan announcement from Gazprom, there was wide spread skepticism the Russian energy leviathan would be able to bring the Shtokman project online by its target date of 2013. It is clear, especially in light of today’s news, that Gazprom needs investment, and, as reported by Oil and Gas Eurasia earlier this week, the kind of deep water, Arctic expertise that Statoil would be well placed to provide.

It seems clear that when Norsk Hydro’s merger with Statoil is completed in October there will be place for the new company, to be named StatoilHydro.
