A Casa de Cultura Laura Alvim em Ipanema, aqui no Rio, esconde uma boa grade de cursos. De vez em quando, ouvia falar que eles existiam. Depois de buscas sem sucesso no Google, tive que descobrir do jeito antigo: indo lá. E era verdade.

Fiz uma aula experimental. Pareceu excelente e bem dinâmico. O Ricardo Simões é definitivamente interessado em passar seu conhecimento intensamente e em desenvolver os alunos. Prometi voltar e ainda pretendo, mas vieram as tais férias que me tiraram da órbita e acabei não conseguindo ainda.

Oficina de Graffiti, com a Panmela Castro

Tag, throw-up, piece, wildstyle, 3D. Hiper realismo, personagens vetorizados e realistas, desenho e pintura.

Quartas, 18 às 20 h.

Talvez o único curso de graffiti atualmente na região, fiquei bem curioso e achei bacana esta arte já estar inserida no Laura Alvim.

Friday 20th November

My work on Friday was all around spray painting. I am really pleased with the outcomes from the spray painted work, some of it is finished and others I will now be working with more.

It is definitely best to just delve in and get creating. This leads you to realise what ideas have a good outcome to them, how your idea is actually realised, to have different work to experiment with and also new work and ideas get produced from it.

Now I have finished one piece and have some more to work with.

Em outubro deste ano realizei no Curso de Arquitetura e Urbanismo da Unileste – MG (Coronel Fabriciano) uma Palestra sobre azulejaria brasileira e, ainda, uma oficina sobre composições geométricas e padronagens através do stencil.

Foi gratificante conhecer uma escola tão interessada na boa formação de seus alunos e que apresenta condutas de ensino encantadoras. Além disso, foi um imenso prazer conhecer bons e cordiais professores. Agradeço por toda estrutura oferecida e pela excelente recepção.

Aproveitando a visita no Vale do Aço mineiro pude entrar em contato com a produção criativa local e ressalto a iniciativa da Banca de Design, em Ipatinga, uma loja de objetos de design criada dentro de um container.

On November 21^st,  Brooklynite Gallery celebrated the opening of “Go Get Your Shinebox”. This group show features over 100 works from artists all looking to answer the question of how to survive in these economic times by creating their own interpretation of a  “Survival Box.”  Brooklynite Gallery has commissioned some of their favorite established and emerging artist to take on this challenge and the responses are breathtaking. Artists such as Dain, Miss Bugs, PaperMonster, Anthony Lister, Ben Eine, Jace, Thundercut, Skewville, Ben Frost, Jon Burgerman, Specter, Know Hope, Kosbe, Gaia, Hush, and many more have all created a one of a kind box, each taking the concept of the show one step further. Art-el & Tunnadine Fine Art present ‘Advent’

Advent aims to provide a visual seasonal treat and bring an end to the period of expectant waiting, brightening up the festive season with a unique exhibition of new ideas and visual delights.

This show will bring you work from a wave of the galleries newer artists who present an aesthetic of visually challenging work, ranging from classic figurative portraiture to the grimy and still developing genre of the street. Although this show will be far removed from the usual urban/street art crew they are both primarily associated.

Selected from each gallery is a mix of local, international and national artists from as far afield as the USA, Portugal and Swansea!

High Renaissance, Fran, ill joseph, Joshua Barber, Leanne Ellis, Motorboy, Pedro Matos, Ria Hill, Simon Riley and Tom Hine.

The period of expectant waiting and preparation will cease and commence simultaneously at 7 p.m. on Friday 4th December at the newly discovered and delightful ‘2° Degrees Gallery’, a new creative space situated in Montpelier, in the heart of Bristol’s creative quarter.

‘Der Prenzlauer Berg sagt Man kann alles kaufen’ – Prenzlauer Berg says you can buy everything – comment on the development of the central districts of Berlin from alternative and low cost areas into posh expensive housing for the rich. In East Berlin, the city center used to be rather unpopular due to the decrepit state of the appartments. Since the reunification, houses have been restored and old tenants removed in order to make room for higher paying residents. Similarly, occupied houses in central areas are being evicted because the owners or buyers have plans to renovate them.

Took a supply trip to the big city (Ithaca) today for stencil materials and cigars and decided to bring my new stickies along for the ride. Unfortunately not all of them made it back. But thankfully I found them nice new homes all across collegetown and Cornell campus. Here’s a pic for ya hungry thieves out there needing proof.
Well let me tell ya, the proof is in the PUDDIN….

‘Danger’

The Green Gift Fair was this past weekend in Minneapolis.  What a great time!  I did not get to look around, I would have loved to have taken an hour or so, but it was still great!  I was so happy to see so many people both producing and supporting green products.  Environmental issues have always been big with me growing up in the age of Woodsy, Smokey and the crying Indian.  I got to try out my new booth set up and learned even more than I did the last two shows.

I would like to share a couple green artists that I really liked.

The first KM STITCHERY is recycled, reused, and ethical!

Sylvia Plath

She used hand cut stencils and repurposed clothing to make great creations.  She works with famous women of history, another love of mine.  Woman’s studies in college opened my eyes to these great women and what they did not only for women but for mankind.  She will take custom orders and is in many shops across the country.  Stop by and check out her work.

Next is Mirasol Farms

Sweet Earth Soap

They do organic soap, creams and other great skin care items.  The sample soap I got has the most wonderful aroma and is one of the most incredible soaps I have ever used.  I will be stopping by their shop to purchase more!

My booth while closer to what I am looking for, I am only making a few minor changes before my next show.  Most of the changes are going to come with my product lines.  I am excited!

Slings

I love my new sling set up.  The addition of the hanging lady really helped.  People would come over to check out the bags.  The only change I will be doing with this set up is putting the slings on a waterfall hook, I hope that will free up some more room.

Stockings

The rack a friend made me worked great for my stockings at this show.  We painted it green despite the outrage of my friend.  And found out at this show that I can make it look how ever we need.  This show it worked best with just the two rails.

Time to get back to work.  I am working on some big changes for my shops and product line.  I hope to have the shops back open late tonight early tomorrow with a big sale!

I took the advice (stole the idea?) of a friend who uses cut paper in her art and bought some of the Canson paper she uses to try for myself.  I believe the line is called Mi Tienes or something like that.  The paper worked well- it’s rich and strong- but it also dulls my blades faster than the thin origami paper, and it doesn’t have a white side on it, which is helpful for laying out your design.  I’d like to find some origami paper in single-color packs and large sizes so I could buy just what I need, but I haven’t seen anything like that in any stores I’ve checked.  It’ll probably have to be an online purchase.

Anyway, my first experimentation with the Canson paper is shown below.  The watercolor background is a place holder at the moment, until I make a background specifically for this piece.  I’m unhappy with the little leaf that goes off the edge of the lower right side of the piece, but I still consider all of this practice.  My mother wants something utilizing cut paper for Christmas, but she wants it to be more along the lines of 24″ x 36.”  This newest one is about 4″ x 8.”  We’ll see.

Here’s a gift bag worthy of royalty, in my humble opinion.  I am really pleased with the elegant simplicity of this stencil – and I am really pleased that Stampin’ Up!’s Decor Elements line has introduced stencils as a design option.  They’re easy, they’re fun, and they can be so much larger than stamps!

• Vintage Ornaments I Decor Elements Stencil
• Always Artichoke and Ruby Red Craft ink pads, Encore Gold ink pad
• Stampin’ Sponges
• Very Vanilla and Always Artichoke cardstock
• Purchased kraft bag, gold wire ribbon, and tissue

I used a sticky note to mask off the top of the ornament in order to make it a proper gold hanger.  This image is equally beautiful using Classic ink, with a softer, more vintage look.

I’m looking forward to stenciling some canvas bags with this image.

Just made these yesterday, simple but a good start I’d say.
