I think it’s time we all had a HAPPY MONDAY!!! Mondays often get kicked aside as a “bad” day, because it’s the start of the working week and many dread Mondays…I don’t normally like Mondays myself. However, why not change this attitude and make Mondays a GOOD day? Do something you love…or plan your week to be packed full of fun things…just do something to make yourself smile.

Har nämligen varit och vaccinerat mig idag för Svininfluensan. Har ni gjort det? Jag känner mig bara lite öm, så man knappt tänker på det. Ingen feber än så länge heller. Så det ska nog gå bra det här. Mådde nog mer illa innan. Jag var en av dom första in att ta en så kallad hälsodeklaration. Medans jag satt där och fyllde i, så började det välla in folk. Vilken hysteri det blev sen då! Folk var ju som galna. Ingen som helst organisation över huvudtaget. Men sedan lugnade dom ner sig lite. Som tur va. Allt som allt tog det ca 45 minuter. Stereophonics... Carrying on, sadly.

If you’re still buying Stereophonics albums can you please stop.  Yes ‘Word Gets Around’ and ‘Performance and Cocktails’ served up some solid sing-a-long-a-rock-n-roll for the summer festival months back in the late 90’s, but the Stereophonics haven’t released a single good album in over 10 years.

Yet somehow they are still releasing albums and selling out arenas all over the UK because someone is still listening to them.  And after a quick and painful listen of their latest release ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ I hope the eyes of those still faithful to the band, still buying their albums and seeing them live, will open widely and see clearly that they really are just utter shite.

She’s Alright is quite possibly the most impotent opening song I have ever heard in my entire life.  It’s more of a whimper than a song, and just when you think it may discover a pulse and kick it up a notch half way through, BAM, it doesn’t and it limps and trips to fill every second of it’s 3:26 existence with absolute audio-boredom.  And the worst thing is, this is the best song on the entire album.

Innocents attempts to sound bright and breezy are closer to boring and bland as it quickly becomes evident that the ‘Phonics are running out of both ideas and steam before your very ears.  It seems the band are taking the albums name quite literally as the entire album is calm yet sadly keeps carrying on.  A sentiment furthered with the “exquisite” I Got Your Number; “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8… I’ve got you’re number, You’re a fake”.  Really, Kelly Jones, this is the best you can do after being a professional songwriter for over 10 years?  Wow, just… wow.

‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ will do nothing to further the bands popularity or garner any new interest from anyone. The Stereophonics have always been an easy target for ridicule over the years, from both music snobs and the music media, and this album only adds more fuel to their fire, annd rightly so.  ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ really is the worst album I’ve heard all year, and by some distance too.

Formada em 1992 por Kelly Jones (vocal, guitarra, piano); Richard Jones (baixo); Stuart Cable(bateria). Originada em Carmarthenshire, País de Gales a banda faz parte do cenario britpop.

Formação e inicio: 1992-1996

Os Tres começaram a escrever e a tocar em clubes de trabalhadores masculinos trabalhando juntos, como uma banda cover de teenagers teenage conhecidos por “Tragic Love Company” ,um nome inspirado pelas suas bandas favoritas (Tragically Hip, Mother Love Bone e Bad Company; apesar de inicialmente serem conhecidos como “Blind Faith”, eles rapidamente mudaram o nome da banda apos terem descoberto que ja existia uma banda com esse nome em que Eric Clapton tocava. Mais tarde alteraram o nome para “The Stereophonics”.

Em Maio 1996 a banda assinou contracto com uma recem formada editora, V2. Apos o contracto, eles passaram a ser simplesmente os “Stereophonics”.

Premio BRITT e o percurso para a fama: 1997-2000

Em Agosto 1997,a banda lançou o seu primeiro album “Word Gets Around”, o qual alcançou 6ºlugar das tabelas britanicas e foi promovido por 5 singles.
Em Fevereiro 1998, a banda recebeu o premio BRIT de melhor “New Group”. Na mesma semana a banda re-lançou o single “Local Boy in the Photograph” o qual alcançou, a posição 14 das tabelas britanicas. O 1º album da banda, “Word Gets Around”, tambem foi “Gold” no reino unido devido a grande publicidade.
Em Novembro 1998, o single “The Bartender and the Thief”, do album “Performance and Cocktails”, foi lançado. Alcançou o 3ºlugar das tabelas britanicas. “Just Looking”, foi lançado a seguir e atingiu 4º lugar em Março 1999, no mesmo mes o novo album foi lançado,entrando no nº1 dos tabelas e em 3semanas foi platina. Tambem colaboraram com “sir Tom Jones” como cover da musica “Mama Told Me Not To Come”.

2001-2004:

A banda lançou o seu 3º album, “Just Enough Education to Perform” em Abril 2001. Este album incluia a muito criticada faixa “Mr. Writer”, a qual nao foi apreciada pela critica devido à sua letra. A musica causou controversia causando ma publicidade para a banda. Este album continha uma das mais famosas musicas, “Have a nice day” a qual chegou ao 5º lugar das tabelas britanicas.
2003 foi o ano de lançamento do 4º album, “You Gotta Go There to Come Back”. O baterista “Stuart Cable” saiu da banda devido a problemas de compromisso para com a banda. Cable que apresentava um programa de TV “Cable TV” sentia que a banda nunca progrediria. Por causa disto ele falhou inumeros ensaios e concertos. Foi substituido por o baterista “Javier Weyler”.

2005 ate hoje:

O 5º album , “Language. Sex. Violence. Other?” foi lançado em Março 2005; marcou as primeiras gravações com o novo baterista, “Javier Weyler”. A banda alcançou o hit numero 1 nas tabelas de singles, com o primeiro single “Dakota”. O segundo single do album, “Superman,” apesar de bem sucedido nao repetiu o sucesso de “Dakota”, chegando ao numero 13 das tabelas. Apos “Superman” veio “Devil”, a qual continha um video controverso e chegou ao numero 11. O album foi nomeado pelo premio “Pop Factory” no final do ano, perdeu para “Feeder’s Pushing the Senses”.

2006 viu o lançamento do 1º album “Live from Dakota”. Este album contem 2-discos que inclui 20 faixas dos 5 albums e tambem o melhor da tourne mundial 2005.

O ultimo album “Pull the Pin” foi lançado no Reino Unido a 15 Outubro de 2007, em conjunto com uma musica disponivel para download “Bank Holiday Monday”. Esta faixa ficou disponivel gratuitamente para quem encomendou bilhetes antecipados para os concertos da banda dese ano. O album foi escrito e gravado em Novembro 2007, mas so foi lançado em finais 2007. O album contem 12 musicas e alcançou o numero 1 das tabelas oficiais de albuns do Reino Unido. O single “My Friends” alcançou 32º lugar das tabelas inglesas, o seu menor exito desde “More Life in a Tramps Vest” do primeiro album. “Pull the Pin” foi tal como o seu antecessor, nomeado tambem para um premio “Pop Factory” e desta vez ganhou a categoria.

I heard this rumor that, once again, Santa is bringing a pair of Flogging Molly concert tickets to my husband for Christmas.  I certainly hope this rumor is true, Flogging Molly is fantastic live.

The Green 17 tour, is Flogging Molly’s annual (in it’s 6th year) St. Patrick’s Day tour.  This year, as in years past, the tour stops at Cleveland’s House of Blues. Unfortunately, the tour is only booked for one night in Cleveland.  I believe both shows were sold out last year.

Tickets went on sale, through Ticketmaster, yesterday (November 13th) at 10 am.  At 10:01, when I was finally able to log on, all reserved seating was already gone.  That really stinks.  I know that certain groups get preferential access to the “good seats” but really, come on.  And it also stinks that this year’s general admission tickets cost the same amount (to the penny) as last year’s reserved balcony seating.  Ouch!

But more importantly, back to the huge disappointment of being unable to even have a shot at reserved seats at the time that tickets officially go on sale.  How many tickets did Ticketmaster preferentially sell to their “partially owned” scalping company?  I like how, when I tried to buy reserved seat tickets for the the Pretenders last year, a link came up sending me to Ticketmaster’s scalping company, TicketsNow, which was selling reserved seats at $174 each!  What total nutter would pay $174 plus fees to see the Pretenders play that awful country-esque music that was their latest album and listen to Chrissie Hynde repeatedly curse out audience members for taking her picture? All I wanted to hear were the classics, which she interrupted by again yelling at the audience.  Oh Chrissie! Poor, poor Chrissie.  What a terrible time you had.  Those awful, awful people taking pictures of you.  How insulting!  You have my deepest apologies for the way my fellow concert-goers behaved.  The savages!

At least I wasn’t directly linked to that other company when trying to buy the reserved seats for this concert.  I actually had to look them up, forgot the company name.   Apparently, they have no reserved seats either.  (not that I would buy them, as I am still operating under the assumption that the rumor, of Santa buying a pair of tickets, is true.  also, the general admission tickets on TicketsNow are $59 to $72!  The concert is not yet sold out and tickets are only $29.50!)

While I was looking up a few things (mostly the name of the scalping site), I was again reminded of the cruelness of being a music fan in Cleveland now (as opposed to being one 20 years ago when Cleveland was such an important part of the music scene that every band played here!). Shit, now Cleveland is such a joke, the Rock Hall won’t even host it’s inauguration ceremonies here! Seriously? How is that acceptable? Ever? The taxpayers paid for that building, our citizens continue to support the “foundation” through patronage, attendance and donations, and we can’t even hold the ceremonies here? It’s a huge insult to the city and its people.  (Oops, sorry,  really, really sore topic). Even Pittsburgh gets my favorite bands, but we don’t.  Anyway, while I was looking at the scalping site, I saw that the Arctic Monkeys (ooh, love, love them) are still playing US dates.  But none of those dates are here.  They played Columbus and played that Mr. Small’s in Pittsburgh, but no Cleveland.  Big sad sigh.

Last year, out of only a few US dates, Stereophonics also was scheduled to play Mr. Small’s.  I even had tickets.  We drove all the way to that awful town of Milford, PA (which I swear is an even more depressing version of the city from the movie Silent Hill) and they cancelled! Cleveland has some very nice venues.  Our even have parking! And our streets are not frighteningly steep and brick paved.  And yet, we still don’t rank enough to get Arctic Monkeys and Stereophonics.  Again, big sad sigh.

Too bad Santa can’t make the Arctic Monkeys play Cleveland.

A cada dia tomando mais presença no espaço musical, o Stereophonics vai sendo inspiração para as novas bandas de britpop ou que tentam fazer um estilo mais original. Sem mais delongas, vamos aos conceitos e ao álbum mais ousado desta banda.

Conceito

Stereophonics é uma banda galesa e foi criada em 1992. Com seu estilo virado para o britpop,a banda é composta por Kelly Jones (País de Gales; vocal, guitarra, piano e compositor), Richard Jones (País de Gales; baixo e vocal de apoio) e Javier Weyler (Argentina; bateria e percursão).

O álbum Just Enough Education to Perform, feito em 2001, é um dos mais queridos pelos seus fãs (inclusive por Wayne Rooney, jogador do Manchester United, que até tatuou o nome do disco no braço) e um dos mais bem sucedidos desta banda. Além de ser um dos álbuns mais lentos, ele ainda tem uma pintada de folk e contry. Mas o ‘lento’ não é aquela coisa cansativa, pois a voz rouca e berrada de Kelly faz a música ser um algo inédito e prazeirosa de se ouvir.

Faixas do CD

1.Vegas Two Times (4:27) – Faixa de abertura. E que abertura. É umas das melhores música do disco. A guitarra é bem forte e a voz de Kelly no melhor estilo, bem rouca. Acordar com essa música de manhã é ter bom humor certo.

2. Lying in the Sun (4:31) – Kelly Jones sabe o que é fazer música. Essa faixa conta com a belíssima voz e guitarra de Jones, mas com a percursão de alto nível de Javier, deixando a música muito gostosa.

3. Mr. Writter (5:19) – Simplesmente o hino do disco e da banda. É muito difícil explicar essa música, já que ela tem muitos recursos, como piano, refrão ‘chiclete’, fora outras características. Que tal ouvirem e tirarem sus próprias conclusões?

4. Step on My Old Size Nines (3:59) – Música linda. Eu acho ela meio country, mas com aquele toque britpop, original do Stereophonics. Ela é bem diferente que as outras e tem muitas paradinhas que ressaltam a voz de Jones. Recomendo.

5. Have a Nice Day (3:29) – Música ao melhor estilo britpop. Vocal de apoio fazendo a parte grudenta, que mesmo que as pessoas não saibam a letra cantem a parte. Digamos que ela é uma música incansável de ouvir. Uma das melhores faixas do álbum.

6. Nice to Be Out (3:06) – Outra música com aquele temperinho de country e folk. Violão diferenciado com a voz de Kelly no seu estilo.

7. Handbags and Gladrags (4:46) – Faixa mais dramática e bonita do álbum. Ela foi single do Chris Farlowe, em 1967. Ótima regravação e ótima música. Vale a pena conferir.

8. Watch Them Fly Sundays (3:30) – Outra música bem britpop, mas com o violão bem solto. Esta faixa é uma das mais brisadas de todo o CD.

9. Everyday I Think of Money (3:22) – Faixa drámatica, coisa fácil com a voz rouca e berrada de Jones. Mas também tem uma parte bem alegre, que acaba cortando a ‘bad’ do começo. Ótima música.

10. Maybe (4:32) – Adoro o violão desta música. Bem ritmada e empolgante.  Vocal de apoio muito bom fazendo um ‘lálálá’.

11. Caravan Holiday (3:11) – Folk fazendo presença novamente, mas não em tanto peso quanto antes. Música maravilhosa, não tem muita descrição. Faixa para brisar, certeza.

12. Rooftop (6:15) – Se o CD começou bem, terminou com chave de ouro. Rooftop é uma das melhores música do álbum e uma das mais animadas. Ela é um pouco grande, mas o tempo passa rapidinho de tão boa que é.

Cheryl Cole, along with other music superstars Robbie Williams, Alexandra Burke, Alesha Dixon and The Stereophonics will take part in a special Help For The Hereos radio appeal for GMG Radio (a group owning various stations across the country including Real Radio, Smooth Radio, 106.1 Rock Radio and 96.3 Rock Radio).

The appeal centres around brave South Yorkshire soldier who suffered horrific injuries in Afghanistan is to be part of a star-studded charity appeal for his wounded colleagues on Tuesday.

Rifleman Craig Wood, from Doncaster, was blown up on patrol and lost both legs and a hand, aged just 18.

He will be telling his story for the Help For The Heroes charity which is setting up a network of recovery centres across the UK, providing practical, direct support for Britain’s wounded soldiers.

X Factor judge Simon Cowell and reformed 80s band Spandau Ballet will be guests on Chris Tarrant’s 9am to 11am show on the GMG Radio network.

Auction prizes include tickets for the X Factor, a visit to Jenson Button’s Brawn GP factory and the chance to have a personal performance of debut album Coming Home by new trio The Soldiers.

Chris Tarrant said: “Help for Heroes is a great charity doing a great job to help our injured service personnel and an excuse to team up with the guys at GMG to have some fun on the radio again.”
