Well after yesterdays dyslexia revelation (after writing yesterdays blog i discovered that i am in fact completely dyslexic).  Anyone who had the misfortune to read it should have done so with a certain degree of trepidation.  We successfully ruined a few careers (hopefully Keanu Reeves will not be on a screen near you for a long time).  And after a few negative messages sent to me as a result (i like to hope it was Keira Knightley’s mum).  Anyway today we are going to celebrate some of the best.  And I will give you my top 5 performances of the year so far.  This will be a tough selection based on my own thoughts of the things I liked (which is not a lot).

Lina Leandersson –  Let the right one in

FilmWipe fans (i know there are at least 2 of you out there) will be thrilled to see the gallant Swede make a return to the blog after her performance in possibly the best film of the year.  As previously mentioned she adds a warmth and a depth to a vampire who murders half of a neighbourhood.  And it is not a cringy Twilight way.  She is probably the best child actor for about 20 years, putting this idiots from High School Musical and the uneagerly awaited Fame to shame.

Penelope Cruz – Broken Embraces

Again anyone who has read this blog with any real care and attention will remember the praise lavished upon Cruz for her latest performance.  All i really need to say is that she probably put in the performance of the year.  Admittedly i rated the performance of her co-star Lluis Homar as  being higher.  However, in terms of this list she is the one who makes the cut.  To put it in simple terms she  makes the films work.

Peter Capaldi – In the loop

Wow.  Possibly the best performance of all time in a political film.  Peter Capaldi steals the show with his character Malcolm Tucker.  Every scene he was not in was instantly forgettable.  His rants at various members of the government were priceless.  The pure aggression with each word made you question if he would have a heart attack by the end of the film.  The character was so devious and intense he actually made Peter Mandelson look like Norman Wisdom. Sadly  in order to make a living Capaldi can be now seen in the horrible Torchwood.  Shame on the BBC.

Sharlto Copley – District 9

The best performance in action film so far this year.  as previously mentioned he does the best impression of Steve Carrel on the planet.  The first half feels like you have walked into the South African version of the office.  The second half is the best performance in an action film this decade.  He puts the likes of Toby Maguire and Robert Downey Jr. to shame with his believable and genuine performance.  He is spell binding throughout and commands the camera like a Hollywood leading man from the 1950’s.

Christopher Waltz – Inglorious Basterds

As you can tell i am not very comfortable when i am being nice about a film or an actor.  It is a bit like having my teeth pulled out by the cookie monster – frenzied without any direction.  However i come to the final entrant on my extensive list and it is Christopher Waltz.  His performance as the villain in Inglorious Basterds was probably the best in any Tarantino film to date.  He makes Samuel Jacksons poetic performance in Pulp Fiction seem like it had the finesse of Mr Blobby.  He devilishly waltz’s his way through the film creating a character who is both likeable and easy to hate.  He surely has become the standard that all other actors hope to match when they are playing cinematic villain.

Despicable Me est un film d’animation 3D réalisé par Pierre Coffin et Chris Renaud.

No será hasta el 9 de julio del 2010 que terminaremos de saber a ciencia cierta de qué va la trama. Bueno, ya sabemos algo, se trata de un villano con una mente maestra llamado Gru, interpretado por Steve Carrell, que tiene todas las herramientas, aptitudes, planes, hasta el ejercito y las armas listas para cometer el crimen más grande de la historia, robarse la luna.

Ya hemos en el trailer que sus fechorías son maravillosas y que, por lo visto, nada lo detiene; en realidad casi nada, excepto por tres pequeñas huerfanitas que vieron en él algo que nadie había visto antes, un papá.

Sigamos esperando por más trailers que esta peli animada se ve muy entretenida, bueno, viene del ojo experto de Chris Meledrandri, productor ejecutivo de la Era del Hielo 1 y 2, y the Horton y el Mundo de los Quién.

Diversão garantida!

Sucesso na televisão agora nos cinemas, como as adaptações da televisão para os telões tem sido mais constantes, o sucesso cuja parodia se inspirava nos filmes de espionagens e assumidamente originado através de 007, Agente 86 (O filme), conta a história do dedicado Max Smart (Steve Carell), um colunista pouco destacável no serviço super secreto CONTROL liderado por ”Chefe” (Alan Arkin), seu sonho e se tornar um agente assim como seu colega (Dwayne Johnson), um destacado e respeitado agente. Contudo, nunca passou no teste por ser muito bom no que faz atualmente, certo dia, quando a CONTROL e atacada por sua rival KAOS liderado por Singfield (Terence Stamp), o serviço secreto e obrigado a recrutar um espião que deve fazer parceria com a charmosa agente 99 (Anne Hathaway) e partir em uma missão para descobrir uma conspiração.

Dane-se a Control, dane-se a Kaos, e dane-se um pouco a conspiração pois em muitos momentos do filme, o que parece e que vamos apenas nos divertir com as supostas ocasiões, quero dizer que, em certos momentos você fica confuso com o objetivo dele pois muitas cenas destraem com as risadas, o que já e bom pois uma das intenções e fazer rir não é mesmo?!, nisso ele consegue fazer muito bem, a direção de Peter Segal e o roteiro de Tom J. Astle e Matt Ember resultam num dos filmes mais engraçados lançados ate agora (1 de janeiro a 20 de junho), e provavelmente no ano de 2008, digo que, em meio as situações inesperadas que pegam nossos agentes Max Smart 86 e a agente 99, já nos preparamos para rir, Steve Carell tem aquele dom de incorporar um personagem digamos ”otário”, digo isso no bom sentido, apesar de que, neste filme, seu papel parece ser bem esperto e forte diferente dos outros que ele faz, melhor dizendo, muitos que conhecem o ator ou não tem idéia da serie, vão pensar que o agente e burro, ele não e burro só e atrapalhado, e como suas trapalhadas vão agradar um bom publico pois e diversão do inicio ao fim.

O tom de aventura que não para e as ações perigosas envolvendo explosão deixam bem claro que o filme não pretende chegar ao ponto de Austin Powers que faz questão de chegar ate o ultimo ponto do exagero, claro, temos cenas bem mentirosas como a do avião onde Smart e a agente 99 fazem uma luta contra um mexicano enorme que também faz sua ponta na história. A trilha sonora sempre constante e retirada da serie, aquela tipo, tananana tananana tananana, tatada- lembro???, sim, essa mesmo^^, ela toca em diversos momentos do filme, o bom do roteiro e que todos os personagens se tornam comediantes, o que e difícil de fazer e que deve ter deixado todo o elenco feliz, contamos com a presença de (Masi Oka) ”o Hiro da série Heroes” como um atrapalhado nerd que também trabalha na Control, o veterano e sempre presente em longas de comédia (Terry Crews) ”Todo Mundo Odeia o Chris” também conta presença.

Diferente das atuais comedias, Agente 86 não apela para situações sexuais e piadas forçadas, tentando ser o mais natural possível o filme já se destaca dos demais, principalmente com as atuações de Steve Carell e Anne Hathaway (performance super sexy), ou melhor dizendo, todo o elenco…Gostei bastante pois já faz tempo que não vou ao cinema ver uma boa comedia, como tava com pouco dinheiro preferi ver Agente 86 ao invés de Cinturão Vermelho, e bom, não me arrependi já que com certeza não sairia com o bom humor que tava ao ver este filme.

Como todo filme tem um erro, sai do cinema tentando questionar o erro de Agente 86, confesso que não me custou muito já que, lembro de quase dormir no final do filme onde a ação e a rapidez das edições me deixaram meio cansado, melhor dizendo, me acostumei tanto em rir que, nos últimos 20 minutos quando a coisa fica ”meio” seria, eu meio que havia ficado sonolento, mas e no mesmo final onde a comedia volta a acontecer e tudo fica bem, claro, contando com um final bem clichê, mas isso não muda muita coisa, já que o filme cumpre sua missão e não desaponta.

Eu se fosse você corria lá para assistir o mais rápido possível, e daqueles filmes que quando acaba, você sai do cinema comentando e com um grande sorriso no rosto.

Foi anunciado hoje no site Variety que a apresentadora do programa G4 – “Attack of the Show” Olivia Munn está dentro do set de gravação. isso mesmo, a musa nerd mais freak de todos os tempos terá uma papel no elenco da produção de Jon Favreau ao lado do mestre Downey Jr.

É claro que nessa altura do campeonato, com o filme já em andamento, seu papel não será de tanta importância;  isso é fácil de deduzir. Mas seria Olivia Munn uma boa aquisição como atriz de cinema ou apenas uma jogatina pecuniária?

As notícias não param por aí não! A mega-geek-wonder-woman também foi convocada para atuar em “Date Night” ao lado dos protagonistas Tina Fey e Steve Carrell.

Teremos base da atuação de Munn nas telinhas em breve na comédia “The Slammin Salmon”  – então é só torcer por ela.

De uns anos pra cá eu me tornei meio fã da Oprah Winfrey. Comecei assistindo de vez em quando e, aos poucos, percebi porque ela não é tão famosa e milionária à toa. 1) Ela é muito simpática e irônica no bom sentido. 2) Ela sempre faz cara de séria e presta muito atenção nos entrevistados. 3) Ela abraça de verdade várias causas sociais. Acho que dava pra encher essa página de motivos, mas os principais são estes.

Às vezes, ela se perde. Ela, não, o programa. Um dia tava lá a mulher do Márcio Garcia, não-sei-o-que Santa Rosa. Ela estava lá ‘ilustrando’ um típica família brasileira. ‘My husband is the Brazilian Brad Pitt‘. That is what she said, como diria meu ídolo Michael Scott (Steve Carrel) no seriado The Office.

Foi ridículo, porque mansão com vista pra baía, motoristas, mil babás e academias em casa não são exatamente o raio-x da família brasileira. Se o programa fosse sobre cebs e pseudo cebs, ok. mas, não era; o contraponto da sra. Márcio Garcia era uma africana com mais de 20 filhos (que a Oprah ajuda, lógico!).

Isso era só um parênteses, porque na verdade, quero botar neste post umas frases que recebi ontem da minha amiga Carol Blasi (do Rocambole, no posto da Lagoa) que achei genial mesmo. Genial não, fundamental. Toda mulher deveria ler TODA SEMANA.

Vá lá, com vocês, as frases da Oprah:

-As pessoas não vão querer pisar em você, a menos que você se deite.

-Se um homem quer você, nada pode mantê-lo longe.

-Se ele não te quer, nada pode fazê-lo ficar.

-Pare de dar desculpas (de arranjar justificativas) para um homem e seu comportamento.

-Permita que sua intuição (ou espírito) te proteja das mágoas.

Tuve el dvd entre los que quería ver durante casi dos años y nunca me decidí. No tenía una idea clara de qué se trataba Littlle Miss Sunshine pues cada persona que la comenta decide extrañamente no hablar de la historia, del guión o de los personajes y no sé por qué.
Resulta ser una especie de roadmovie con final feliz. Una historia de machismo, familia y frustración.

De cierta forma de rendición. Un homenaje a todos los perdedores, desde los que nunca intentan superarse, los que lo intentan y no lo logran, los que no se dan cuenta e insisten y, finalmente, los que caen irremediablemente luego de haber sido “alguien”.
Perdedores sin más futuro que asumirlo y tratar de olvidar sus sueños.

Muy bien dirigida, todos los personajes tienen su historia y su proceso interno bien expuesto y claro… excepto la mujer. En el caso de la niña es el fracaso perdedor del que no sabe qué es lo que está sucediendo. El tío Frnak es el que ha caido de su pedestal y no logra afrontarlo, el padre el aspirante eterno, el viejo es quien nunca lo intentó (el mismo lo dice en el camino a nunguna parte). El hijo es el que descubre que por mucho que lo intente jamás lo logrará y la mujer… simplemnte la mujer es el adorno del pastel. Sin aspitaciones y sin frustración, observador de las desgracias y en permanente estado de sentir lástima.

No es una película muy larga, tampoco es de esas cambiar el mundo con par de frases cursi y personajes carismáticos y heroicos. Carece de esa pretensión tanto como carece de verdadera emotividad. Supongo que siempre habrá gente que se sienta identificado con algo y como todos somos perdedores en algún grado logró abrir esa puerta por la que pudo colarse con éxito en cuanto festival de cine hay.

In this day and age, in a World that thrives off of materialism, how can there be any room for spirituality? Even taking it to another level, how can there be any room for spirituality in Hollywood?

I’ll be the first to say that I don’t really have many celebrities as my role models. I know lots of people do, but can we honestly say there are lots of good role models in mainstream music for example? What about actors? We’ve experienced so much awesome talent over the years losing their own identity and falling into this corrupt and unclean environment that you fall into when you reach stardom. How many people can we say actually stay true to themselves, and not let the media influence them, but rather let themselves have profound influence over others? Can we honestly put blame on any of our youth for their rebeliousness when they have no one to look up to in a World that is seriously lacking in spirituality?

Enough questions. I actually spend alot of time thinking about this stuff, and have profound discussions with people on what we can do to create a safehaven for our young people, and to give them a chance to explore their own spirituality more. We all have a role in this society, and everyone should have  a chance to find out what their role is.

Oh yeah, isn’t this post about Rainn Wilson, Oprah…. and soulpancake? Well, I find Rainn Wilson to be one of those gems in Hollywood. If you don’t know Rainn Wilson by now then you quite frankly live under a rock. He plays Dwight Shrute on the hit series ‘The Office’. I read in one of his interviews that he says that Hollywood isn’t actually as bad as people make it out to be, and that there really is some awesome people out there. Well he does work with some of the funniest people on the planet (I’m so jealous, I want to work with Creed too).

Rainn, along with two of his friends have created a website called http://www.soulpancake.com. It’s an online community with a big vision. I can’t describe it as good as the website, so I’ve taken a bit from their ‘FAQ’ page:

 So I just watched the latest episode of The Office. A full hour just for Superbowl Sunday. I was drenched in tears from laughter. And if you’re a human, then you will be too. Here’s the intro:

I just saw Bruce Almighty again. It’s one of my favorite movies.

But what struck me most this last time I watched it was the ending. The homeless guy to the right is holding a sign that says something like “Amageddon outta here” and he slowly morphs into Morgan Freeman who is playing G-d. Such a simple scene, such a beautiful truth: we should see G-d in everyone we encounter. I know this but I have a hard time remembering…

Yesterday morning, I was talking to a guy at work that had been out with an injury for two weeks…and I wasn’t thinking about Bruce Almighty but my mind did that morph thing and I knew that for that second, I was looking into the eyes of G-d and it rattled me. It’s good to be rattled!

G-d speaks through the craziest things. Actually He really speaks through EVERYTHING, if we listen…

This is the funniest scene in the movie…

- Sérieux t’as acheté ce film ? En HD DVD Import US en plus ?!
- Fous-toi de ma gueule mais la qualité du transfert vidéo se voit vraiment ! Du Full HD !
- Non mais, je veux dire, c’est de la merde dans le fond ce truc.
- Absolument pas !
- Pfff…
- Okay on se le matte si tu me crois pas. Ca sera juste la troisième fois ce mois-ci mais tu vas voir à quel point tu as tort, homme de peu de foi.

Aussi aberrant que cela puisse paraître, de ma trentaine de HD DVD, aucun n’aura autant tourné dans mon lecteur que le seul et l’unique 40 ans toujours puceau. Allez comprendre pourquoi.

Un de meilleurs posters de tous les temps.

La vérité, c’est que je pensais que tout le monde avait déjà vu 40 Ans Toujours Puceau, enfin tous mes potes en tout cas. Il s’avère que non. Pour une raison qui me dépasse, le film dégage une mauvaise image de B movie un peu foireux. Peut être est-ce le pitch (ou le titre tant qu’à faire). Pourtant, merde ! C’est quand même le premier film de Steve Carrell, ancien correspondant star du DailyShow, acteur principal et atout lol de la série culte The Office. Quoi ? Ca ne passe pas en France ? Ah… oh… je comprends mieux. Sinon dans le film y’a aussi Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks, Jonas Hill, Paul Rudd et, ouais bon d’accord ils sont devenus célèbres suite à ce film. C’était aussi le premier film du réalisateur/scénariste Judd Apatow, qui accéda du même coup au rang de super star d’Hollywood, ce qui lui donna le droit de faire à peu près tout ce qu’il voulait. Au point qu’une comédie actuelle sur deux est limite produite par le bonhomme.

Non mais plus sérieusement, pourquoi c’est bien 40 Ans Toujours Puceau ? Déjà et surtout parce que ça prend pas son spectateur pour un con. Okay c’est souvent trash, mais les personnages sont entiers, tous attachants. Andy, le puceau, n’est pas victimisé que ça et, bien que geek, reste super adorable. Crap ! Mais en fait ce film est plus fin qu’il n’y paraît ! La preuve ultime, c’est que chaque sombre crétin qui m’a prétendu que c’était de la merde a fini conquis au fond de mon canapé. Et partager un film à la cool avec des buddies, y’a un peu rien de mieux dans la life (rappelons que je mets le DVD en pause si la fille avec qui je le regarde veut baiser, true story). Bien sûr 40 Ans Toujours Puceau n’est pas parfait. Avec ces deux heures trente il accuse quelques longueurs. Mais je dis ça, c’est peut être qu’à force de le voir toutes les semaines, il perd de son impact.

Bref, là où je veux en venir, c’est que si vous faites partie des non-croyants bouffis de préjugés, je vous mets au défi de regarder ce film sans passer un bon moment. Parce que c’est aussi ça The Best Place.

Demain on parlera de mon futur, enfin de mon futur métier et, par extension, mon futur stage !

This is not an actual movie review. I finally got around to watching the movie “Get Smart”. And I have to say that I’m impressed. For a Steve Carell movie, it’s not really what I expected. I definitely expected it to be a lot sillier. But they seemed to have found a good balance between silly and serious. Steve Carell’s character wasn’t a complete and total nitwit like I thought he’d be. And I definitely have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the scenes where Anne Hathaway wears that shiny little dress.

That’s about all I had to say, I’m drawing a blank so I’ll see you next time.

It looks like the Three Stooges are back. MGM is in the process of acquiring the film rights to the Stooges. The Three Stooges were showcased in shorts and features as early as 1933. Warner Brothers currently holds the rights to the Stooges and has had a project in development for years.

The most recent screenplay written by Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly is in current works and the Farrelly’s are also attached to direct. The story  provides an orgin for Larry, Moe and Curly. The targeted release date is Nov. 20, 2009.

The real mystery is with the cast. Who could they possibly find to portray these iconic characters? Maybe Will Ferrel as curly, Jack Black as Larry or possibly even Steve Carrel as Moe? I’m just throwing a few suggestions out there for you Hollywood.

Domingo passado foi a apresentação nos EUA do Emmy. Foi bacaninha. Mas tive a sensação de que só tinha meia dúzia de séries competindos pela premiação por causa da greve dos roteristas que prejudicou bastante a última temporada americana. Fiquei feliz pelo episódio da primeira parte do fim da quarta temporada de House tem levado um prêmio. Esse episódio é realmente F-O-D-A. Mas um dos melhores momentos do Emmy foi esse:

Este domingo o canal Sony (da TV paga) irá reprisar o Emmy com legendas! Se você não viu, veja!

Określenie parodia nabrało ostatnimi czasy w biznesie filmowym iście parszywego znaczenia, głownie dzięki Aaronowi Seltzerowi i jego pseudo-filmom takim jak Date movie, Meet The Spartans czy Disaster Movie. Tym razem, na szczęście, jest zupełnie inaczej. Get Smart był jednym z lepiej przyjętych, zarówno przez krytyków, jak i widzów (ponad 120$ w USA) filmie. I nie ma się czemu dziwić. Steve Carrell nadal w formie, ładnie wspiera go Anne Heathaway i Alan Arkin. Wszystko jest śmieszne, lekkie, stylizowane na lekko podrzędną komedyjkę klasy B (co tym bardziej działa na jej plus). Film ma jedno, jedyne zadanie – rozśmieszyć nas. I jak dla mnie, znakomicie się to mu udaje. Czuć w tym rękę Mela Brooksa (“Faceci w rajtuzach”) i Petera Segala (“50 Pierwszych Randek”, “Naga Broń 33 i 1/3″). Jeśli mamy ochotę się pośmiać, polecam, prawie dwie godziny mija bardzo szybko.

If you haven’t watched this movie, you have no idea what you are missing. 

The plot is rather simple: a father who is a failure at motivational speaking discovers that his daughter believes she has a great shot at winning the Little Miss Sunshine pageant.  Because of circumstances you’ll discover in the movie, the father, his wife, his wife’s brother (who recently attempted suicide, played by a surprisingly low-key Steve Carrel), his father (a drug user, but lovable nonetheless), his wife’s son (who has taken a vow of silence), and their young daughter load up in an old, decrepit van and make their way across the country, all in the hopes that they’ll be taking home the title of Little Miss Sunshine.

Of course, the family interaction is the heart of this movie, especially because we have several very complicated characters who only grow in their complexity as the movie progresses.  Sometimes this movie is gut-busting funny, sometimes it is heartbreaking, and that is what I love so much about it.

Again, I cannot recommend Little Miss Sunshine highly enough.

Anche se in estremo ritardo – il film è uscito quasi un mese fa, accumulandosi ad altre uscite importanti – merita comunque un commento il vincitore del Sydney Film Festival e uno dei film più acclamati del Sundance, Little Miss Sunshine. Il film, un prodotto indipendente e low budget, è l’opera prima di due coniugi (Jonathan Dayton e Valerie Faris) allenati alla regia con la realizzazione di videoclip e spot. Del tutto inaspettatamente, però, Little Miss Sunshine ha scalato le vette dei botteghini di tutto il mondo, diventando uno dei casi cinematografici dell’anno. Vedendo il film, la cosa non stupisce poi granché, perché la storia bizzarra e scalcagnata della famiglia Hoover è di quelle che non possono non piacere al grande pubblico. Questa immaginaria famiglia di Albuquerque in New Mexico ha infatti tutte le carte in regola per risultare simpatica e accattivante.

Sheryl è una moglie che a fatica tenta di rigovernare il caos che la circonda; suo marito Richard ha il mito del successo ma in realtà è il più classico dei falliti; i loro due figli – Olive e Dwayne – sono monomaniacali e apparentemente disadattati. Olive, che ha otto anni, vuole a tutti i costi partecipare al concorso di bellezza per bambine, “Little Miss Sunshine”, anche se non è esattamente una reginetta. Dwayne ha 15 anni e adora Nietzche. Odia però tutto il resto del mondo e ha fatto il voto del silenzio, così, semplicemente, non parla più. Per finire il quadretto, si aggiungono: il nonno, che vive con loro dopo essere stato cacciato da una casa di riposo perché si faceva di eroina e collezionava riviste pornografiche; e lo zio gay, docente universitario (è il massimo studioso americano di Proust) che ha appena tentato il suicidio. Insomma, nella famiglia Hoover tutto scorre tra follia e disagio a stento trattenuto, finchè Olive viene chiamata per la finale del concorso “Little Miss Sunshine”, in California. Ricevuta la notizia, la famiglia si mette in marcia, su uno scassatissimo furgone Wolkswagen giallo ed è facile immaginare, vista la combriccola, che ne capiteranno di tutti i colori.

Alcuni personaggi del film – primo tra tutti il nonno, ma anche Dwayne e lo zio gay – potrebbero essere usciti da uno dei primi lavori di Almodovar, mentre le situazioni che si snodano nel corso dell’opera seguono il più tipico copione del road movie tra amici, e il pensiero non può non andare anche a Sideways, che lo scorso anno ebbe lo stesso destino di questo Little Miss Sunshine. Il film tiene bene, manovrando con sapienza – ma anche senza stupire più di tanto – le varie suggestioni e i due temi principali. Ovvero: il mito del successo che ci vuole tutti perfetti, mentre siamo tutti molto più goffi, fragili e inadeguati delle false immagini che ci provengono dalla tv; l’importanza dei legami umani e famigliari, unica protezione possibile all’interno dell’insensata agonia del mondo. La famiglia Hoover, infatti, sembra fuori di mente, ma è molto più “famiglia” di tante altre falsamente normali. Tutti, in fondo si vogliono bene e tutti – a partire dai più piccoli – mantengono salda la propria spontaneità. Insomma, gli Hoover sono tutte belle persone. Little Miss Sunshine, fino ad un certo punto, sembra però soltanto un compito fatto bene, un film destinato a spettatori intelligenti ma che non osa più di tanto. Però, poi, alla fine c’è una scena che vale da sola il prezzo del biglietto e la visione del film. Quella del concorso di bellezza con le bambine-mostri, cloni delle modelle. E con la magnifica, incredibile e strepitosa esibizione di Olive. Una scena semplicemente da antologia, che non vi scorderete più e vi farà ridere per giorni.
