Primeiro tem declaração da Nelly Furtado que, prestes a lançar novo CD, atacou Madonna para, claro, ganhar um espacinho a mais na mídia:

“Eu não estou pronta para esse ajuste físico para ser vendável. Ao contrário de Madonna, não vou fazer Pilates o dia inteiro para retardar a deterioração do meu corpo. Eu prefiro sentar na cozinha, beber chá e comer biscoitos”, afirmou Nelly Furtado.

Segundo que o famoso fotógrafo Steven Klein publicou em seu site o vídeo demo de “Get Stupid”, de Madonna. A versão final, que foi exibida durante um intervalo da turnê “Sticky & Sweet”, fala sobre destruição do planeta, consciência ecológica e personalidades boas e más.

O clipe é fraco e não tem retoques digitais, mas pelo menos não tem aquela felicidade falsa de “Celebration“, que parece uma propaganda da C&A nos anos 90. Vejam do que estou falando:

La Madone semble être plus que jamais à la mode… Après avoir incarné l’égérie de Louis Vuitton pendant deux saisons consécutives, elle prête désormais ses traits au duo italien Dolce & Gabbana, sous l’objectif de Steven Klein. La nouvelle a été annoncée par Stefano Gabbana himself sur son twitter en les termes suivants : “La campagne avec Madonna est magnifique, mais je ne peux pas en dire plus!”. Il faudra attendre le printemps-été 2010 pour découvrir les photos de cette nouvelle collaboration !

After the now iconic ad campaigns for Louis Vuitton – SS2009 & FW 2009-10 -, the unbelievable stylish celebration video in Balmain, having previously worked with everyone from Gaultier to H&M, the ultimate fashion muse  is adding another campaign to her resume, landing a job as the face of Dolce & Gabbana for the Spring/Summer 2010 season.

The italian duo and the Queen of pop first met in the early nineties when they designed costumes for her ‘The Girlie Show’ tour, and most recently for her ‘Sticky and Sweet’ shows. They spoke out on their online magazine, Swide.com, to say: ”To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true.”

The collection was debuted at Milan Fashion Week last month and is heavily inspired by Sicilian heritage, which makes the singer the perfect choice. The campaign has already been shot by the amazing Steven Klein in New York, so hopefully we’ll get a glimpse soon. I cant’ wait.

THE THREE CENSORED “WARRIORS”

Went to the beach today and it was a very relaxing Sunday for a workaholic, being a magazine addict I grabbed a couple on my way out and devour the pages laying on a beach towel while waiting for some friends to grab some grub. I’ve seen the “Bondage Warriors” from the September 2009 issue of VOGUE HOMMES JAPAN magazine before and maybe because of my last entry “Pork, Jews and Porn: Censorship in Saudi Arabia” I realized the obvious irony of it all. The 30-page-spread, S&M-inspired story of male bondage photographed by the iconic image-maker Steven Klein and styled by the very talented Nicola Formichetti has 3 full frontal nude shots in 3 different pages that will never see the light of day. Whether its good for Christianity, Government of Japan, or the main artistic statement of “produce-full-frontal-nudes-of-men-and-make-it-look-like-it-was-published-in-Saudi-Arabia-with-the-red-marker-pen” concept, I’m underwhelmed to say the least.

BREAST VS PENIS

Klein (self-portraits on the left), an american photographer based in New York is one of my personal heroes when it comes to pushing the envelope in the world of fashion, as a young photographer,  I’m perplexed when Lady Gaga’s breast (as shown above) appeared in the same issue and it’s not censored since breasts have been fair game in fashion for a long time, and penis have popped-out here and there, and not in porn mags but in blue chip magazines and ad campaigns like “supermodels” Evandro Soldati (Ford NYC) and the latest Calvin Klein Model, Jamie Dornan’s (Select London) full frontal nude (as shown below) for Visionaire #52 photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Andres Velencoso Segura (Wilhelmina NYC) by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for Arena Homme Plus magazine, Alex for Hercules Magazine photographed by Paola Kudacki, and martial arts star Samuel de Cubber in full glory with his legs apart and yes with his penis visible for Yves Saint Laurent men’s fragrance M7 “eight years ago” in 2002 created by the American designer Tom Ford. In an interview Ford said: “Perfume is worn on the skin, so why hide the body? The M7 campaign is really pure… it’s a very academic nude.”

PULP OF AMERICA

Widely published from 1896 through the 1950s, PULP magazines pushed the envelope of sex, violence and gore in America. The inexpensive fiction magazines might be the granddaddy of all magazines in the business of “pushing envelopes” in american publication. Pulp magazines are a little over 1000 titles, including digests, one-shots and girly magazines. Things calmed down a little in the early 40’s when the Victorians got involved. The overt sadomasochism and racy sexual content got toned down considerably. Twenty one years later Steven Klein was born and like many other iconic fashion photographers being rebellious and controversial with their images they continued the legacy of the idea of “artistic rebellion”.

SELF-CONTRADICTION

In the book “Censoring sex: a historical journey through American media” by John E. Semonche, two quotes from the introduction pops up:

[A] sizable portion of the American public accepts censorship as an imagined “quick fix” solution to moral drift and other social ills… Fears of unbridled…sexuality, of a world without clear moral compass, and of the impact that a gigantic multimedia universe is having on our children, have contributed to the continued scapegoating of speech in America. (Marjorie Heins, 1998)

As a result of our ignorance, apathy, and fear, sex has to a great extent become by default the intellectual, moral and legal property of politicians, clerics, and ideologues. (John Heidenry, 1997)

As for me, the idea of pushing the envelope for the sake of art  to be pushed back by religion, government or self-contradiction is like re-living 1940’s again… in 2010, but thats only my two cents, I still love Mr. Klein regardless and my friends arrived with the paper bag of deliciousness from the nearby Deli. -Navo

MadonnaTribe has heard and can report more news about the new fashion campaign that Madonna will shoot with photographer Steven Klein next month for the new Dolce & Gabbana campaign.

The shooting date has now been set and it will take place on November 6th in New York City. Another fresh piece of news is about the campaign itself, because this now will be for the Women’s Collection of the Italian designer duo.

This is a picture of  Dutch model Lara Stone that appeared in a shoot styled by Carine Roitfield and shot by Steven Klein. It appeared in the October 2009 issue of Vogue Paris.

This editorial appeared in Vogue Paris last month and it sent waves through the fashion world. Many people voiced their outrage that in this day and age, images like this shouldn’t and wouldn’t be accepted. My thoughts on it are pretty simple. There are many beautiful and successful black models out there from Chanel Iman to Liya Kebede, Jourdan Dunn to Naomi Campbell that could be used in an editorial shoot like this rather than ‘blackening up’ a white model. PPQ used an all black model cast to showcase their Spring/Summer 2010 collection and in my opinion, they did not get nearly enough publicity and recognition as they should have. This ‘blackface’ debate (as the American’s call it) should’ve ended here. But thanks to America’s Next Top Model and V Magazine, it seems to be back. Blackface in its simplest terms is theatrical make-up used by white people to make them look like black people. It has seriously negative connotations that goes back to 19th century America when it was used to perpetuate negative racial stereotypes. Given that it has this history it seems in bad taste that it seems to be on the rise.

Tyra Banks, the queen of addressing controversy head on, seems to have landed herself in it, when she had her wannabe models made up in ‘blackface’ for a shoot in a sugar plantation on Hawaii on a recent episode of America’s Next Top Model (in America).

V Magazine has also jumped on the bandwagon and as they say three is a trend. The editorial shot by Mario Sorrenti, sees ‘blackface’ featuring with models, Sasha Pivovarova and Heidi Mount.

For me, fashion needs to be cutting edge and forward thinking at the very least,, to excite and inspire people and controversy is often not far off. However, there is always a line that should not be crossed and I think that the resurgence of ‘blackface’ is that line. It does not add anything to the images, it does not tell a story that anyone wants to hear so why use it when there are countless black models waiting to be booked?

El Black Face Fever que ahora tienen los editoriales de moda ha levantado controversia. Primero, vimos a la cotizada modelo Lara Stone (quien se queja de estar muy gorda), para la edición de Super Model de Vogue Francia, fotografiada por Steven Klein. A excepción de Lara en negro, que lucen espectaculares, no hay modelos asiáticas o negras. 

A esto le sigue el popular American Next Top Model, en el que Tyra Banks tiñó a sus chicas de negro para una de las sesiones de fotos de la competencia. Aunque muchos criticaron esta acción de Tyra, Ver en You Tube.

Ahora le tocó el turno a V Magazine, que para su edición de noviembre presenta un café con leche entre las modelos Sasha Pivorvarova en negro en oposición a Heidi Mount. Mario Sorrenti.

No podemos negar que estas imágenes lucen fabulosas, pero,¿no hubiese sido más fácil utilizar chicas negras reales, tan espectaculares como Arlenis Sosa, Chanel Imán o Sessile López?.Ejemplo, la edición de septiembre de I-D.

Steven Klein took a trip to South America this summer and photographed the whole issue of Electric Youth Magazine, hot doesn’t even begin to describe, as Klein flexes his usual mix of fetisch, violence and sex.

I znowu notka o “Vogue’u”. Ale tym razem o francuskiej edycji i od inszej strony.

Francuska organizacja antyrasistowska SOS Racisme dała w tym miesiącu znać o sobie światu oskarżając naczelną francuskiego “Vogue’a” Carine Roitfeld i fotografa Stevena Kleina o rasizm. Rzecz się rozchodzi o białą jak śnieg modelkę Larę Stonę, którą na potrzeby sesji ucharakteryzowano na czarnoskórą kobietę. Poniżej rzeczony “dowód zbrodni”:

Oczywiście samo oskarżenie wytoczone przez wyżej wymienioną instytucję ociera się o czysty absurd. Choćby dlatego, że zabiegi tego typu (malowanie białych na czarno i vice versa) w fotografii  stosowano już niezliczenie wiele razy, i  jakoś nikt nigdy o to się nie obrażał.  No dobra, może kiedyś, ale to było dawno i nieprawda. Najprawdopodobniej i tym razem nikt się tak naprawdę nie obraził, tylko ów “incydent” SOS Racisme wykorzystało tylko po to by o sobie przypomnieć.  Zamiast tropić “rasizm” w magazynach modowych (czasy dyskryminacji ciemnoskórych modelek były, ale minęły) powinni się skupić na realnych atakach na tle rasistowskim kierowanym przeciw ich rodakom na terenie samej Francji. No, ale sorry to za mało spektakularne jest.  A “Vogue” to w końcu ogólnoświatowa marka, pod którą niezależnie pod jakim kontekstem, można się choć na chwilę podpiąć.

W takim razie może powinniśmy brać z nich przykład, i w imieniu wszystkich białoskórych lasek powinnyśmy oskarżyć o rasizm koncern L’oreal o tę fotę reklamową z Beyonce:

No bo jak to tak, wybielili ciemnoskórą zamiast dać robotę jednej z nas?!

Tu z kolei, wszystkie Japonki powinny strzelić zbiorowego focha za to, że tak zbeszczeszczono takie dobro kulturowe, którym jest Geisha, pozwalając by udawała ją nieskośnooka modelka.

A po obejrzeniu tejże foty…

…wszystkich facetów powinien wziąć ogólnoświatowy wkurw za deprecjonowanie całego gatunku samczego pod postacią kobiety przywdzianej w typowo męskie odzienie.

A swoją drogą to ta już głośna sesja dla “Vogue’a” jest moim zdaniem średnio udana, tak samo jak i stylizacja, więc kto wie, czy sam fotograf nie stał za organizacją, która tę burzę wywołała. Ot tak dla lansu, i ot głupia puenta.

Madonna is set to be the new face of  the latest D&G Mens Campaign. The ad’s will be shot sometime next month by Steven Klein.

I will say that I am looking forward to seeing these pics, 1 because shes the face of a mens campaign?, 2 because D&G are one of my favorite mens designers and 3. after the stunning shots she provided Louis Vuitton with particularly in the first campaign, I have no doubts she will deliver with this.

A Vogue Italia deste mês trás em seu recheio a poderosa Daphne Guinness em um editorial maravilhoso clicado por Steven Klein. Ela é uma figura sob a qual se pode falar muitas coisas no que diz respeito a estilo e só para exemplificar, merecem destaque os seguntes pontos: Daphne é dona de uma enorme coleção de alta-costura, considera-se uma entusiasta dos looks armados (logo é apaixonada pelas criações de grifes como a Balenciaga), já foi considerada um style icon por Kate Moss (a qual já declarou, inclusive, que gostaria de ter um guarda-roupas igual ao dela).

Quer mais sobre a moça? Bom, só pra completar, ela é ex-mulher do bilionário grego Spyros Niarchos, mãe de três filhos e também herdeira de uma poderossísima família irlandesa. Fashionista como poucas, ocasionalmente posa como modelo para Steven Klein, de quem é amiga pessoal. Ufa! Esta é uma lista sem comentários, não?

Sobre as imagens para o editorial (algumas delas abaixo), apenas uma breve observação: Não sei se o make up ou o Photoshop é que estão carregados demais, mas a verdade é que Daphne e o modelo clicado ficaram com aspecto de bonecos de cera. Os rostos polidos e os cabelos super arrumados que o digam!
