34 year-old Steven Wiltshire is simply amazing. After being diagnosed with autism at a very early age, he began to evidence a hidden treasure which could have been easily lost in worry and disappointment. Rather than succumbing to circumstances, however, his ability to draw FROM MEMORY entire cityscapes of the world’s largest cities has been honed into a powerful, inspiring story.

1) DON’T NEGLECT THE DETAILS.  We are so accustomed to not “sweating the details,” we often forget to take note of details.  Steven flew around New York and studied the details, which, in part, is what distinguishes his art.

2) FOCUS ON YOUR STRENGTHS.  Steven is described in this video as both a “savant” and “developmentally disabled.”  Which do you think he focused on?  For that matter, it seems obvious that those key people in his life also chose to focus on one and not the other.  If you were Steven, which characteristic would you have focused on?  ”For as he thinks within himself, so is he,” Prov 23:7 (NASV)

3)  FIND INSPIRATION EVERYWHERE. Firetrucks, buildings, international cities.  Steven found inspiration everywhere he looked.  When you’re in the valley, enjoy the view of the mountain.

4)  TAKE JOY IN INSPIRING OTHERS. No explanation necessary.

Its really amazing how he can draw that detailed on such a large scale, all from his memory as well!.

British artist Stephen Wiltshire is known as the ‘human camera’ for being able to render images of entire cityscapes in uncanny detail after only viewing the real scenes once. Wiltshire’s abilities stem from his autism, but his pieces are no less stunning. Perhaps Wiltshire’s condition isn’t truly a disability, merely evidence that our species is still evolving.

Steven e un englez, nascut in 1974 si diagnosticat cu autism de mic copil, de la varsta de 3 ani. La varsta de 8 ani a inceput sa manifeste un neobisnuit talent pentru desen, iar la varsta de 9 ani a invatat sa vorbeasca. La 13 ani a fost prezentat intr-o emisiune BBC despre savantii autisti, iar in anii ce au urmat lucrarile lui au inceput sa fie afisate in tot felul de expozitii si a publicat numeroase carti.

In mai 2005, dupa o plimbare cu elicopterul deasupra Tokio-ului, a desenat o uimitoare panorama detaliata a orasului, pe o panza de 10 metri lungime. De atunci a mai desenat in acest mod (din memorie) si Roma, Hong Kong, Frankfurt si altele…

Nu stiu ce credeti voi, dar mie mi se pare uimitor omul asta. M-a lasat masca. Filmuletele vorbesc de la site, iar daca vreti sa aflati mai multe, vizitati site-ul lui oficial.

Yesterday, I was thinking of an adolescent young man (diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome) with whom I work and about how richly human and brilliant he is.  At the same time, I reminisced about how reciprocally warm and affectionate our relationship has been during the time we have known each other.

Later that night, thoughts about Steven Wiltshire (born 1974) came to mind.  Wiltshire is an accomplished architectural artist who has been diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder.  Wiltshire’s work has been the subject of many television documentaries; neurologist Oliver Sacks praised his artistic work in the chapter ‘Prodigies” in his book “An Anthropologist on Mars.“

Stephen Wiltshire’s published art books have included “Cities” (1989), “Floating Cities” (1991) and “Stephen Wiltshire’s American Dream” (1993).
