Sorry about the xkcd rip-off comic, I’m just kinda burned out on drawing in detail after Marxman and Engels, the Velocicopter, and the half-dozen sketches of Whale Heart Submarine in slightly different poses that I did for some reason. Normal UW! programming returning soon!

What happens when a stick-figure artist is asked to describe capitalism and vice versa? Look below. Have you ever considered hedonism as a system of government? I’m thinking Dionysus meets Holden Caulfield (“Catcher in the Rye” reference for non-literati) on the beaches of Hawaii. Complaints anyone? I think not.

I have an intense hatred of the popular webcomic xkcd.

It represents a failure in humor, relying on predictable set-ups and non-existent punchlines. This is “nerd humor”, apparently, a euphemism for “not funny”. A reference to maths or things on the internet does not instantly make stick figure drawings entertaining.

A blog has been dedicated to explaining each comic, another for detailing how much it sucks.

To spare you, my two main points are:

1. It isn’t funny (there are no “jokes” for want of a better word, or any attempts at challenging or engaging the audience).
2. The “art” sucks. Seriously. If you’re going to make a stick figure webcomic, at least have an interesting or unique sense of humor (see no. 1).

Lately there have been signs posted around the office on how to prevent spreading H1N1 – wash your hands, cover your cough, etc. There are two versions of the sign on my floor.

Hanky Stick Figure Guy Version 1:

I think this is the cutest little stick figure holding a hanky I’ve ever seen. He looks like he might say (in a British accent), “Oh, pardon me miss, please do accept my apologies for sneezing in your general direction.”  I want to squeeze his nose. But under the circumstances, I guess that would not be wise. I don’t want snotty hands. Speaking of hands OH MY GOD WHERE IS HIS HAND.

Hanky Stick Figure Guy Version 2:

Now, this guy? I dunno. He looks like he’s about to puke into his hanky and is really scared about it. And his hanky looks more like a piece of looseleaf paper than cloth. Also, he seems very surprised to find a hanky where his hand should be. BUT AT LEAST HE HAS HANDS. And a Gumby body. I think the Gumby body is what is freaking me out most.

I have a friend that really, really reminds me of the Hat Guy.

He had a hard time believing this, so we tried to find a list of all the hat guy comics compiled so he could read through them and decide whether or not I was right.
