(also published on IndieVisionMusic)

A friend and I recently caught up with Tommy, front man of Sleeping Giant, before one of their shows on the Winds of Plauge and Stick to Your Guns tour. A very clean cut, straightedge guy, he spoke about worship, ministry, and plans for a new album. It’s rather lengthy – but more than worth the read. After the interview, we were able to witness their incredibly energetic and powerful set. With determination and backing from fans both in and out of the church, Sleeping Giant shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

What type of devotional time do you keep on the road?
For me, every day I have a specific time when re I just hang out with God and talk bout stuff with him. Sometimes I’ll go out and run and come back and write down what I did during the day and take time with him that way. Every day for the most part we get together before everything to make sure everyone’s okay and pray together. It’s a daily thing for us. Sometimes it’s easier than others, sometimes it doesn’t happen. Everyone makes time for it in some way or another throughout the course of the day.

What is your opinion on the church’s current view of hardcore music?
I think we’ve just got to give the church a little time. I can remember, when I was a younger kid I came up in a pretty strict Christian house so music was a big deal to then. Music that was distorted and louder was said to have sounded evil. But now you can turn on about every Christian radio program and find dudes that have tattoos and playing music that was [] maybe ten years. So our heart in Sleeping Giant is to create music that is heavy and part of the scene, but then we also write music on purpose that’s worship-driven so that people can say, “oh I can sing that.” Just to write it so that the presence of God is in the sound. With any music, the church seems to be far behind and afraid of stuff on the front but then they eventually catch up. What wasn’t okay ten years ago is suddenly okay. I don’t mean that has a huge criticism but it’s just that what they had a problem with when I was younger is now a hip Christian thing. We need to be careful not to slam stuff, because god is the creator. The enemy wants to counterfeit stuff, but god made it. I wonder if the church would go back and see David dancing in his tent and think that it was demonic and weird. It’s not about how it sounds, it’s about the spirit behind it. We love the Lord and love to worship Him like this. There are people who are starting to recognize that.

Share a testimony that you’ve encountered while touring:
This kid from Portland came down to Facedown Fest. This kid had broken his wrist and walked out to the front of the show and the EMT told him that it was broke and he needed to go to the hospital. Three or four people from our church walked up to him and said, ‘Hey can we pray with you?’ He was an atheist and didn’t believe in God at all. He was like ‘Whatever, dudes.’ They laid their hands on him and he said it hurt real bad for a second and then all of a sudden it was healed. I got it on video – he went over to the EMT’s and it was healed.

We played Tulsa, Oklahoma last summer and in the middle of our set we were talking about God and this kid essentially manifested like a demon and started screaming and hit the floor. A bunch of people started praying for him and he was delivered.

So there are spiritual encounters that we see, but also more basic ones. Like when a person comes up in a Christian home and call themselves Christians, but seeing our set has really encouraged them to really have a relationship with God. I met a kid last night in New York who has a real heart for hardcore, and our music helped him to get clean in areas of his life and no h wants to reach out to kid who are struggling too. We played Toronto last summer and at that show, thirty or forty kids got saved. We do shows all the time – and when it’s good place, I’ll legitimately lead an invitation to get to know God.Last summer I honestly saw hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of kids become Christians at our shows. So there’s a whole gamut; we see supernatural stuff, we see normal stuff, and we see people who don’t agree with us. God can do the work; He just wants us to worship Him.

What’s your favorite song to play live?
“O Praise Him.” We’ve only played it a few times on this tour because we want to be respectful of what God’s doing or saying to us during our set. Sometimes it’s merely just a song for people and they don’t receive what we’re doing. So we want to partner with God. When we get to worship together and play “O Praise Him” live, it’s unreal. It’s the only time I feel like we really experience worship. It’s like, we’re done and just giving everything we have. That’s real worship – not saying ‘Hey God, I’m singing, I’m trying to raise my hands. ‘ We give everything and can feel Him move. That’s my favorite time ever.

It’s the type of thing where we want people to touch it or see it. Especially the Christian people that never get a chance to go as crazy as they want to because there’s something holding them back in church or whatever it might be. It’s something that we wanted to unlock in people. That’s what we get a lot – when there’s faith and freedom in a room. David jumped and danced and sang and I don’t get to see that very often. When we can dance in front of the Lord with all our might, that’s true worship. Religion tells people they have to try so hard to worship Him. We rest in Him, and He does the work. We’re really trying to believe that we don’t do that. If we just hang out with Him, He’ll do it. We enjoy worship so we worship and let God do what He’s going to do. When we try to make it happen, it never works. We can’t’ do it ourselves. It so takes him to make that happen. It takes God to love God.

Have you had opportunities to share your beliefs with the bands you’re currently on tour with?
We’ve given out Bibles to some people and had really good conversations. They’ve come to use with questions and curiosity. We witness by listening to Him and being like Him. We’ve been friends with Winds of Plague and Stick to Your Guns for a while. They just allowed us to come out with them – we were one of hundreds of bands that could have been on this tour.

When did you decide to make your band a ministry?
That’s just who I am. The think that set us apart from Christian bands, is that when we started no one ever said anything about God. I was essentially pasturing a church for people who don’t like church in California. Then some friends asked me to sing in their band. I told them that I would sing about God – I don’t care about anything else. So when we started, I was just sharing who I was. I was tired of seeing Christian people acting like they’re ashamed of who He is. I love Him, so these are songs about Him. It emboldened a lot of people [when we started]. If you’re going to be in a band don’t put God’s name eon it if you’re not going to act like a disciple.

Has the fact that you tour with secular bands ever raised questions within the church?
Okay, I’ll be honest. I think there’s a lot of surface level questions and conversations that church people have. But we don’t get approached with that kind of nonsense. I think God has a grace around us saying, ‘You guys are not going to worry about this ridiculous stuff.’ If we seek Him first, we’ll get everything else in the right order. All this stuff that’s illegitimate is all a non-issue. We always want to make the right move, so whenever we receive confirmation from God we pursue it. If He wants us on this tour, we’re going to go on this tour. We do totally want to bless and support the church, but there’s more work to do outside of the church as well.

What are your plans for a new album?
We’re starting to write stuff right now. We just started putting stuff together within the last couple of months. We’re just experimenting a lot and coming up with stuff that’s more in line with our DNA. God’s really been showing Eric some really cool stuff about worship. Like, worship should legitimately we what you would say to God – not talking about yourself or all these other things. He’ son the throne. If you’re literally sitting in heaven before Him, what are you going to say? That’s admiration; that’s worship. When he tells you to say something, then that’s declaration. We don’t just want to sing around Him and talk about ourselves.

Anything you would like to add?
Dude, I don’t even know. I think that Jesus isn’t one – dimensional. That’s something I get confronted with a lot. He is a real person and His life and everything He can offer you is so much bigger than anyone gives Him credit for. We tend to box Him up as, “Healer,” “King,” “Friend,” or “Judge.” But He’s entirely unsearchable. A lot of Christian bands, including us, can get pigeon-holed and then pigeonhole Him. He’ been everywhere and encountered everything. He’s the one who needs to be worshipped or just have someone sit and be silent. I want people to take more time to discover who He really is. I don’t want them simply to call Him their King, but to know. I’ve seen Him, I feel Him. It’s about relationship. I can talk to God – I can tell people what He likes and doesn’t like. For example, He doesn’t think I look good in profanity. He says, “I like you a lot, but when you speak like that you don’t look all that good to me.” It’s bridal – you want to know Him like someone you’re going to marry one day. The most important thing to us is that we can have a real relationship with God. I just think He’s hot, He’s good looking, He’s the King.

Last night, I don’t think I could have been happier. All the negativity within me was released

Last night, I don’t think I could have been happier. All the negativity within me was released. It has truly been the best day of my year so far. I don’t think the organizers could have put two better bands together in one show — Stick To Your Guns and Terror.

I vowed to myself that I would stage dive for the first time at this show during Stick To Your Guns, regardless of the dangers, regardless of how tough or intimidating the security guards were, regardless of the amount of people at the front to catch me when I landed. So during their song tonight’s entertainment (if I can remember correctly), whilst all three security guards were trying to get people to piss off from getting mic grabs, I put my mouthguard on and I slid under the railing and jumped up onto that fucking stage. Holy fuck. Adrenaline was racing all through my veins. I was so very afraid yet feeling so alive, I can’t even perfectly verbalize it. I didn’t know exactly what to do — do I jump off a speaker, or just run off the stage? Do I go run over the top of the security guards, or do I go for a different area? I made the best decision I could within the two and a half seconds I was on that stage and did a run up to a speaker and flew into the crowd with the biggest smile on my face.

One of my legs ended hitting some guy’s head, and as a result, my landing didn’t go as planned. I fell, landed on my left knee first, then chest, then chin. A couple of people helped me up and I just ran around, almost in tears of joy, back to my friend Kristy and just hugged her. I almost couldn’t even stand up straight. Kristy then went for a stage dive. First time she attempted to get under the railing, she wasn’t fast enough, but the second time, she ran and dived and landed safely. (Lucky.)

We were both absolutely ecstatic — we had always dreamed of doing something like that, and now, we ourselves have done it. That’s one thing we can tick off our summer to-do lists.

Weeks before this show however, I knew Jesse Barnett of Stick To Your Guns was vegan and I had planned to take a box of these chocolate vegan cookies I practically live off to give to him. I packed them in my bag and I had planned to give them to him if I had spotted him at the merch tables or something. However, when I was up on stage, Kristy threw the box up there and accidentally hit the guitarist. As she recalls, “he jittered like it was a bug or something.” Anyway, after Stick To Your Guns played and they were all slowly beginning to clean up, Jesse came down and high fived and shook hands with people. Then he came to Kristy and I, and he hugged us, although he was all sweaty. Actually, come to think of it, he was drenched in sweat, but I didn’t care. I asked him if he got the cookies and he said no, but he’ll definitely have a look for him. Jesse seems really sweet and like such a genuine guy — I wish I got to talk to him more.

If that didn’t make my night, seeing Martin Kirby again did. I knew he was working on the Terror tour, however I just assumed that he was only working on the Melbourne show. He remembered me from all the way back in July 2009, which made me feel pretty special. We didn’t talk for as long as I would have liked since he was busy, and also for the fact that my knee injury was so painful that I just had to leave the venue.

Overall, this has been, without a doubt, one of the best days of my year so far. I’m legitimately happy for once in an extremely long time.

In a world of destruction and liars, normality and “scene,” there are those few people that I have to give incredible props to. I give them all props for their originality, perseverance, passion and heart. If the world thought more like these people, expressed themselves as gracefully and had their drive to succeed and speak their mind, maybe we wouldn’t be stuck in this motionless moment.

All of these people are artists in their own way, let it be music, poetry, visual arts, etc. Some are trying to change the world, others are just speaking their mind. Some don’t speak at all except through their instruments. Enjoy.

Lowkey, Russian Circles, Fear Before, Tommy Twilite, Peter Smolenski, Ted Mikulski, Immortal Technique, Jacob Bannon, Stick To Your Guns, Remembering Never, Cage, Claudio Sanchez, Freight Street Gallery, Grayskul, Pia Sjolin Design, Converge, Sleep of Oldominion, Smoke of Oldominion

This list will constantly be updated, creating the perfect mix of idols for passionate artists.

1. Deathcore I am still befuddled as to why most bands labelling themselves as ‘deathcore

1. Deathcore
I am still befuddled as to why most bands labelling themselves as ‘deathcore’ think it is both creative and clever to write music that consists solely of 200BPM blastbeats commonly followed by either a 40BPM open chord chugga-chugga breakdown or an excessive sweep-picking interlude (possibly broken up by a few pinch harmonics). Yes, we know that your guitarist can shred and that your drummer can gravity blast at obscene tempos but this doesn’t mean you can write a song. Being dynamic does not just mean throwing a breakdown between blastbeats, so go buy yourselves a copy of ‘Calculating Infinity’ and learn how to write some proper technical tunes.
Bands to avoid: Whitechapel, Winds of Plague, Suicide Silence

2. Avenged Sevenfold
If there is a worse looking and sounding band than Avenged Sevenfold in music today I have yet to discover them (the closest I have come so far is Atreyu). Looking like Motley Crue in this day and age is not cool, neither is sounding like Linkin Park mating with Van Halen and having ridiculous stage names like ‘Sinister Gates’ has never been (nor will ever be) cool. In fact if Avenged Sevenfold were to suddenly begin dressing like GWAR and play only Nickleback covers my opinion of them would increase a thousandfold.
Bands to avoid: Avenged Sevenfold (duh)

3. Screamo/Electronica
Admittedly I can’t claim to despise all the bands currently flying this particular genre amalgamation flag on their respective Myspace pages but when it comes to eclectically mixed genres like this the electronica component is simply not an excuse for crap screamo and boring breakdowns. Screamo/electronica is like pancakes and bacon; sometimes the bacon is nice and crispy and the pancakes nice and fluffy (hello Enter Shikari) and othertimes the bacon is flaccid and flavourless and the pancakes are soggy and taste like balls (hello Horse The Band). Unfortunately this genre is overrun by pancakes that taste like balls and thus I am forced to include it on this list.
Bands to avoid: Horse The Band, skyeatsairplane

4. Excessively slow breakdowns
The same kind of kids that get excited about sludgy snails pace breakdowns are the same kind of kids that go to shows to get ‘br00tal’ in their Bring Me The Horizon t-shirts, get Hungry Jacks after and stick Coke cans in their stretcher holes until their mothers come and pick them up at 10:30. Not that I have a huge problem with these kids, but they will eventually get the idea into their heads to begin compiling lists of their ‘totes fav most brootal deathcore breakdowns eva!’ and begin posting these compilations on YouTube (accompanied by extremely amateur Powerpoint presentations featuring photos of circle pits), sparking comment from all their Myspace friends who are ordered to watch these pieces of art via spam bulletins with deceptive, hype-inducing headlines (eg. ‘OLI SYKES is totes GAY!). These comments will then lead to a kid with the word ‘RAWWWWRRR’ in their username getting ‘paid out’ by another kid with the word ‘BBLAAARRRGGGG’ in their username because they don’t know who The Faceless are and Mr RAWWWWRRR will quite publicly (again via Myspace bulletin) announce that he has begun cutting himself regularly and will eventually off himself entirely. And this is not on.
Bands to avoid: With Blood Comes Cleansing, Annotations Of An Autopsy, As Blood Runs Black

5. Gangsta fashion sense
Whilst I’m not a huge fan of cliche’ hardcore fashion (black Macbeths, black cut-offs, Comeback Kid t-shirt, fluoro coloured cap with the brim turned up) I am much less a fan of the gangsta dress style that has emerged from the current ’straight-up’ hardcore scene. It seems to me that as soon as you put on a baggy white shirt, flat brim Afends cap and get an X tattooed somewhere on your body you automatically begin thinking that everyone is talking smack about you (and your hood) and that your ‘Straight Edge Pride’ needs to be defended at every possible occasion (insert instance of four dudes with beards in said white shirts beating the crap out of one 16 year old kid in a Cradle Of Filth shirt because he was drinking a UDL outside a gig).
Bands to avoid: Deez Nutz, Bury Your Dead, Stick To Your Guns, Comeback Kid

6. Feedback as ‘art’
As with excessively slow breakdowns, music masked by fierce bursts of feedback is a fairly poor excuse for songwriting and is NOT art. I don’t care how many pseudo-Christian poems, images of Gothic statues or artfully-blurred live photos you put in your lyric booklet I won’t change my mind. References to the fact that you are ‘making music for the sake of music and you just want to make music for people like you and not be famous’ won’t change my mind either. If you want to make music for the sake of music keep it in your backyard shed so your Mum can tell you to shut up at 7pm every night and you can go sulk in your room and reassure yourself that you are a very misunderstood artist.
Bands to avoid: The Chariot

7. Songs that begin with a breakdown
A hardcore song starting with a breakdown is the equivalent of a gangster rap song starting with a ruff-riding beat constructed of gunshot samples. A hardcore song starting with a breakdown is like a U2 concert starting with Bono giving a speech about starving African children. A hardcore song starting with a breakdown is like a 70’s horror movie starting with a teenage couple having sex and then being killed by a masked madman when one of them goes outside to investigate a noise. For a genre that is supposed to be all about passion you would think that artists would care enough about their songs to at least try and write a vaguely original start to a song.
Bands to avoid: Johnny Truant, August Burns Red, Unearth

8. Pig squeals
Who the hell decided that it would be a good idea to substitute already hard to distinguish lyrics in death metal songs for actual animal noises? Will we soon be hearing other barnyard noises in place of actual singing (or growling, whichever way you look at it)? If you’re going to pig squeal instead of write lyrics why not get an actual pig to perform vocals for your band instead of you? These are the questions that perpetually plague me when I hear bands like Job For A Cowboy so if someone could pass these on to them that’d be really great.
Bands to avoid: Job For A Cowboy, All Shall Perish, Cannibal Corpse

9. Songs with ridiculously inane names
When I first listened to ‘Plagues’ by DWP, I was honestly expecting the first track to contain lyrics describing the adventures of some ‘Goats on A Boat’. I was quite disappointed when I found the song to be some rambling crap about ’searching for security in tragedy’ but I had hope for the rest of the album. Sadly I was just as disappointed with the rest of the songs as I was with the opening track. To collate my disappointments; I did not find out why I shouldn’t forget Number Three; pondered exactly why HTML Rulez Dood; wondered who this John was and why I had forgotten his name; got obnoxious when I was told not to Dink and Drance; attempted to spell Crap Without a C (and failed miserably); was confused about what This Song Is Called; felt weird meeting Reptar King Of The Ozone; submitted to the Scorpion Deathlock and discovered That Nickels Is (actually) Money Too and wondered why a user of Australian currency would ever give a crap.
Bands to avoid: The Devil Wears Prada, A Day To Remember

10. Band merch with maritime artwork
Whilst pirates are the rockstars of the ocean (and land) it doesn’t mean your cool because you include them in your t-shirt designs. You are not a pirate by association. At least Bring Me The Horizon have a piratey name and vaguely piratey songs (‘I Used To Make Out With Medusa’) but bands like As I Lay Dying have no excuse for trying to cash in on pirate coolness. Maybe if you were called As I Lay Drowning (In Davey Jones’ Locker) I might not have a problem with you putting an anchor and/or a shark on all of your shirts. There are so many different things you could possibly have on a metal shirt that haven’t been done yet (ie. I have yet to see a Telletubbie with a chainsaw) and would be ‘totz brOOtal’ (the Telletubbie again) that bands should really start using their thinking hats and putting some creative stuff on their t-shirts. I mean, deathmetal is pretty much a joke anyways and Cannibal Corpse can get away with actually calling an album ‘Kill’ so why can’t All Shall Perish put a friggin’ Telletubbie with a chainsaw on one of their t-shirts?
Bands to avoid: As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive, Bring Me The Horizon (etc etc etc)

I’m nothing more than your average 23 year old trying to get my life going. I currently work for a UPS Store in Washington State. It isn’t bad, the pay and hours are the only things that suck. I have my high school diploma. I’m debating on enlisting in either Coast Guard, Air Force, or Navy. I also have thought about being a reservist in those services. I have an interest in being a police officer, fire fighter, and something in the medical field.

I have made mistakes in life, who hasn’t. I don’t look back on those ‘mistakes’ and regret anything. You’re here in life to learn and experience different things and some of those things could be bad for you, people around you, that is how life is. I don’t do any drugs, I did experiment in my youth, who hasn’t? I drink socially, but I don’t mind getting totally trashed and enjoying myself.

I’m single at the moment, by choice mostly. I only seem to be attracted to Asians and Asian Islanders. Whites, blacks, Indians, and Spanish aren’t attracting to me. However, I wouldn’t turn any of those races down if her and I had common interests.

As far as music goes, I’ve been into some many different styles. When I was very young, I only listened to Guns ‘N Roses. As I grew up, I got into other forms of rock and eventually I changed my whole interest all together and got into rap/hip-hop. It was mostly that crap they play on the radio. I discovered underground hip-hop/rap by accident from Myspace when I was 17. At that time, I was listening to metal/hardcore and hip-hop/rap. It was pretty funny driving with me as I’d have bands like Lamb of God, Throwdown, MadBall, and As I Lay Dying along with Wu-Tang, MF DOOM, Blue Scholars, and Fort Minor on one CD. Now-a-days you can catch me listening to Deez Nuts, Lamb Of God, Stick To Your Guns, Son of Ran, Blue Scholars, Grips & Tonic, and Atmosphere.

I’m into Hondas. I drive a 94 Civic hatchback in frost white. It has work done to it, nothing special. Don’t think I’m like all those other kids with Hondas that slap a fart can on their stock exhaust piping and think I’m extremely fast and race on public roads. I use to be like that for the first month I had that car. But, I learned by reading from forums like Honda-Tech.com and Clubcivic.com that, with money, patience, and knowledge, you can make your econo, grocery getter into a very clean, fast, and reliable car. At the moment, my car is where I’d like to be besides some dings and a dent. Suspension is how I want it, motor on the other hand is my next step. I still won’t be the fastest, but I don’t care about going fast. How will anyone appreciate the work you’ve done when you’re blazing passed them? Much respect to those who do spend all their time and money into being clean and fast.

What you’ll be reading on this blog amongst millions of other blogs is my personal views on current events, past events, new products, and all other things. My style is aggressive and no-holds-barred. I don’t care if I offend people, if you get offended over what someone writes on the internet then you’re weak.

No I’m not talking about the metalcore band from Orange County, California. I’m talking

No I’m not talking about the metalcore band from Orange County, California. I’m talking about the idiom.

How old is the phrase?

Most people predict that the phrase was coined 300 years or so ago.

What does it actually mean?

It’s basically a term that comes into play when someone makes an effort to hold onto ones beliefs or position, often a position which may come under some criticism or persecution, or maybe a difficult outcome.

Where did it come from?

It most likely came from a soldier’s responsibility to stay at his post, or gun, and not run no matter how difficult the fighting became.

Why are you telling me this?

No it’s not just because I wanted to show you a picture of a squirrel with a gun, even though it is priceless.

I wanted to tell you what happened to me on the 102 bus on Friday. This is a bus I take four or five times a week, as it is the easiest way for me to get back down to my original abode. The journey is usually stress and incident free. But not this time.

The 102 looks just like that but not as eco-friendly.

We were cruising along fine until the bus’ brakes screeched and then it stopped, and then all the lights went off. We weren’t at a bus stop and we weren’t at traffic lights.

I always have my headphones in when I’m on public transport, thus I often am the last to find out about what’s going on. I looked around and saw the entire top deck of my bus in an utter state of confusion. People were shouting, getting up, running around it was quite a commotion. By now I decided to take my in-ear “can’t-hear-a-thing” headphones out.

There had been no announcement and no official instructions on what the passengers should do. But sure enough people began to get off the bus. By the time people saw another 102 bus behind us, there was a stampede to the door.

The bus was still stationary and by now it was just me and this short Irish bloke left. He asked me whether he thought we should get off. I said that I would ask the driver.

The driver was a clearly irritated Jamaican, who was by now shouting all sorts of expletives and trying to figure out why his bus had suddenly ground to a halt.

“Should we get off?” I asked politely and quietly.

“Ah doont nooo whas goin on doo ai? Steey on de bus muun!” He reassured me.

“So, I should stay on the bus?”

“Steey on de bus! Yoo ‘erd meh!”

I’m very good at doing what I’m told and instead of following the crowd, I stuck to my guns. I went back upstairs to tell the sweet paddy what the plan of action was, but before I could open my mouth he barged passed me and jumped onto the other 102 bus which had just driven by.

I began to think that perhaps my adhesivity to these fire-arms was not such a good idea. (Did I get away with that sentence?)

I was basically on a giant Taxi. I had the entire bus to myself! The only slight issue was that it wasn’t moving.

A few minutes passed by and I hesitantly got up and decided that this wasn’t a wise decision and that it was time to get off this broken down tin can.

“I should get off shouldn’t I? The bus is broken down.”

My frustrated chauffeur was still pulling all sorts of levers and pressing different red and yellow buttons in a desperate attempt to revive this dead bus.

“Steey on de bus! S’ookeey!”

VRRRUM! The engine roars into power. We were on our way. Of course, every bus stop we passed was empty, because the other 102 had picked all those passengers up 5 minutes earlier. Before long we overtook the other 102, and made it home before all those deserters.

I stuck to my guns. I succeeded. Woo!

Sadly, that fear came true. Booking agents gave the spot to Fayetteville hardcore metal act The Handshake Murders, officially closing the door on putting a Springfield band in front of a potentially huge and fanatical crowd.

Okay, enough bellyaching. It’s silver lining time: THM round out a four-band lineup arguably as good as the Unearth/Emmure/Born of Osiris/Impending Doom show at Remmington’s Downtown a few weeks ago. To recap, The Handshake Murders will open for My Children My Bride and Stick To Your Guns with Parkway Drive as the headliner. Maybe local metal players won’t get to be onstage, but they have even more reasons to be in the crowd.

Getting My Children My Bride back for a follow-up show two months after playing Springfield February 24 is pretty cool, but done before–Forever Endeavor scored similar back-to-back shows last year with Murder By Death, for example–but Stick To Your Guns? And Parkway Drive?! Parkway Drive!!! We even break out the rarely used multiple-exclamation point for this. We weren’t in attendace the last time PD came to Springfield, but we’ve heard things… amazing things. This has all the potential of being the hard-rock must-see of 2009. We’ve got a whole lot more about it after the break.

Here’s the full breakdown, courtesy of Dan Magnum at Forever Endeavor Productions:

PARKWAY DRIVE
STICK TO YOUR GUNS
MY CHILDREN MY BRIDE
LOCAL BAND TBA
APRIL 17
OUTLAND BALLROOM
DOORS @ 5:30
TICKETS $14 DAY OF SHOW
ALL AGES

Five-thirty, DeRosh? Are you kidding?! That’s, like, a happy-hour show! Yes, perhaps so, but there’s a reason: The Ballroom is double-booked that night, and Remmington’s Downtown is devoted to Jah Roots’s 420 Fest. Since this is an all-ages show, it would have an earlier start time anyway, so it was bumped up a bit to accommodate both concerts coming in the room that night.

In case you need more motivation to leap out of your chair with glee, here’s a little vid to fire you up. Peep the crowd in this one:
