So this is a re-purposed USPS sticker on a re-purposed stop sign… kinda cool. Unless of course that stop sign was still performing an important function. Safety first peeps!

I do like this message though… the handcuffs are “ignorance,” and the key to unlock them “education.”

It’s graffiti week here at Oaktown Art, and here is your next installment…

I’ve been wanting to feature these works for some time now, but kept hoping I would find another one to add to the mix.

Here’s the first one I found… a wheat paste on the same abandoned building as the lovely mural “May Peace Prevail on Earth” across the street from Ghost Town Farm.

I found the next two in the Rockridge / Temescal area. This one seems to be painted right on the sidewalk.

And then another huge wheat paste…

And this one is the true stunner. How in the heck did they do this?! If anyone has any thoughts, please send my way.

I love this campaign… it’s so simple, and yet you can’t help but wonder, and question, and think. If you’ve seen more of these around, please send locations… I’d love to go snap ‘em.

One of the things I got done last week was to create a series of product using my photo, Forest Sun Rays in the Snow #32. A snow covered branch creates an arch, with ferns hanging from its moss covered bark, across a tree lined path toward the summit of this hill in the woods of Rainier Oregon. Beyond the forest the sky shines crystal blue in the early morning light.

Reduce packaging, reduce waste!

Last week i created a series of product on zazzle based on my photo, Early Morning Sun Rays #19. The early morning sun beams its rays from the azure winter sky through the leafless maples to the cedars and forest below. The sky is a pristine light blue with a hint of thin white clouds in the background. Darkened outlines of bare branches in the foreground and cedar trees in the background provide stark contrast with the early morning sun. As the rays travel from the sun through the forest, several large sunspots a of lighter and darker red radiate from the sun. One small green sunspot floats like a small orb in the midst of the trees.

Took a supply trip to the big city (Ithaca) today for stencil materials and cigars and decided to bring my new stickies along for the ride. Unfortunately not all of them made it back. But thankfully I found them nice new homes all across collegetown and Cornell campus. Here’s a pic for ya hungry thieves out there needing proof.

One of the projects completed last week was a series of products on zazzle which feature my photgraph,  Sunrise Over the Columbia River #4. The Columbia River shines radiantly in the sunrise as it flows tranquilly towards the pacific ocean bordered by dark silhouettes of evergreen trees standing like sentinels on the Oregon shore and mist shrouded mountains beyond in Washington.

The suggestion for today was to try and save water and electricity by remembering to turn off the light switch, a power point, a tap, etc. Because we forget these things the book suggests making stickers to place next to a light switch for example.

This is a somewhat simple solution to a possibly costly memory issue, in that forgetting to flick a switch/turn off a tap costs money by way of the bill, as well as costing more in terms of environmental costs.

I have found myself being far more efficient in these areas in the last little while and hardly ever forget to turn off a light when not needed, turn off a tap when brushing teeth, etc. It did however take a lot of self-discipline and I can see how stickers/post-it’s, etc, can be handy for some people.

EXILE Gallery’s first exhibit opened in Belleville Friday night when they began posting bits of statements 1 through 11 of the B-Ville Manifesto along rue Piat and rue de Belleville in Paris.

Posting sequentially, statement 11 fell in front of a butcher shop. “Cities grind and like enormous sausage makers produce their wares. Soon it will be our turns. Cruelty is not worth the effort. Stars are lost on the beach.”

The label was actually stuck to a post a few feet away from the shop.
