This week’s stitch of the TAST2012 challenge by SharonB is Italian border stitch. I had worked a few

This week’s stitch of the TAST2012 challenge by SharonB is Italian border stitch. I had worked a few samples of this stitch during the previous TAST challenge. This time around, I wanted to work this stitch combining it with other stitches. Initially I am starting with some variations of this stitch, which were not worked before.
The sampler-

42.italian border stitch2 sampler1

The details-
1. In the first row, the stitch is worked at an angle, which is not distinctly clear, because of the twisting of the thread. In the second row, the starting point of the second stitch is the midpoint of the first stitch, makes this line more compact.

42,itbost2-1

2. the basic stitch is worked at different lengths, and this is alternated and repeated throughout the first row. The varying length of the stitches are worked to form a pattern in the second row.

42.itbost2-2

3.The stitches are worked diagonally in the first row, and they are worked horizontally in the second row.

42.itbost2-3

4. two lines of Italian border stitch are worked together in two ways in these rows.

At last I started working on 32nd week’s stitch of the TAST 2012 challenge by SharonB – Cast on stitch.
This stitch is really tough, I had zero control over the tension, working, placement on these stitch attempts. With no idea forthcoming for the stitch sampler, I took an easy way to work this stitch with other stitches, One way to practice this stitch.
The stitch practice sessions resulted in this-

32.caston stitch sampler

The details-
1. While working the first three, I had no idea what was going on! The next few are combined with chain stitch, fly stitch and oyster stitches.

3. Cast on stitches worked with Algerian eye stitch, and then, two experiments of cast on stitches were bravely attempted

Details-
7.detached chain stitches are worked on the longer stitches in the first row. This stitch is whipped with copper thread in the second row.

41.knlost2-7

8. after adding beads to the knotted loop stitch in the first row, and with the chain stitch curve ,the stitch is worked horizontally to form a leaf pattern .

41.knlost2-8

9. the same stitch variation as leaf patterns continue and are worked with herringbone stitch and stem stitch in the first two rows. I tried bringing the needle four or five times out from the same hole ,this working as fan is repeated as line stitch in the last row.

41.knlost2-9

I was surprised by the variation worked in the last row. the knots produce a braided effect, which makes the stitch more decorative.

Though an easy stitch, the knots had to be fixed to make them neat. Most of the time I did not care to do that, so my stitches are not uniform. This is still a lovely stitch which gives scope for experiments.

This week’s stitch of the TAST2012 stitch challenge by SharonB is knotted loop stitch. I had worked this samples of this stitch during earlier TAST challenge, but forgot about it.
When I started working on this stitch, decided to check the earlier TAST challenge folder, it was all there! And done with the same cone thread too!
After laughing at my absentmindedness, thought of working this stitch with other stitches. I could work only a few rows. The sampler looks like this now-

41.knotted loop stitch2-sampler1

The details-
1.knotted loop stitch is worked over a line of Cretan stitch in the first row. individual knotted loop stitches with running stitch is the experiment in the second row. Individual knotted loop stitches done as a square and fly stitches are worked on both sides in the third row.

I was wary of up and down buttonhole stitch earlier, but when it was part of this challenge, I learnt the technique of the stitch. This technique proved useful to work this hedebo stitch. Still, it is a time consuming stitch. I worked a few more variations of this stitch and wrapped up this stitch sampler.
The second part of the sampler-

40.beaded hedebo stitch sampler2

The details-
5. The hedebo stitches are worked with a bead in between in the first row, and this group is repeated to form a seam
The cross stitches are worked in one[dark pink] thread and the hedebo stitches are worked in green thread in the second row, to see this distinction, the beads are worked over the hedebo stitches.
Single hedebo stitch with two beads is worked between two hedebo stitches in the third row.

40.behedst-5

It was interesting to learn a new stitch and try the variations. Though not an easy stitch, it looks quite decorative and will surely enhance any embroidery work. Choosing the right needle and thread are very important. I enjoyed working on this sampler,
Now, I need to catch up on those missed stitches.

I worked a few more variations of this stitch today.
The details-
4. In the first row, the cross stitches are worked normally and the hedebo stitches are worked in two directions.
Pink Pearl beads are attached to the hedebo stitches in the second row.
Two lines of beaded hedebo stitches are worked facing each other and a line of herringbone stitch is worked between them on the third row.

The 40th week stitch of the TAST 2012 challenge by SharonB is beaded hedebo stitch. I have not done this stitch before. When it was part of the earlier TAST challenge, I skipped over it, thinking it was too complicated. This time I cannot repeat the same thing. So started learning it. Worked this stitch with cone thread on even weave fabric. The thread was thick and it required a big needle, the beads were added after working the stitches.
Today I worked four lines on the sampler cloth-

40.beaded hedebo stitch sampler1

The details-
1. I tried this stitch in this first row, I don’t know why the stitch keeps curling! [maybe too much tension?]

40.behedst-1

2. Alternate stitches are worked on square crosses, which narrows them a little bit.

40.behedst-2

3. Two hedebo stitches are worked together in the first row, and wide stitches are worked with three beads in between in the second row.

Hope I get more ideas for variations . This stitch takes some time to work though!

The details-
4. The stitch is worked horizontally in the first row, and the tying stitch is done on top, instead of the centre .
Combining sheaf stitch with other stitches, detached chain stitches are worked between sheaf stitches in the second row, a line of chain stitch is worked over sheaf stitch line in the third row, and herring bone stitch and Cretan stitch are worked over sheaf stitch variation in the fourth row.

35.shst-4

5. in the first row, straight stitches are worked in two colours and tied in threes . sheaf stitch is worked in two colours in the second row.

6. The straight stitches are worked in V-shape and are tied down in the first row, I like this version. Green stitches are tied with pink pearl beads to form sheaf stitches in the second row.

As mentioned on my last post, this was an easy stitch to work. This looks similar to butterfly chain stitch, but the tying chain and the continuous stitching are absent on this stitch. This can be used as isolated stitch .

Maybe, I ‘ll start to work on 40th week stitch and then get back to the other missed stitches.

the details-
7. Still in the process of combining this stitch with other stitches, the first row is a combination of buttonhole stitch and knotted buttonhole stitch, and bullion knots and French knots are worked over the knotted buttonhole stitches. The second row is the combination of this stitch with detached chain stitch.

39.knbhlst-7

8. The first row is unsuccessful combination of feather stitch variation and knotted buttonhole. In the second row, this stitch is combined with chevron stitch. The third one, two rows of knotted buttonhole stitches worked together.

39.knbhlst-8

9.The first row is worked with bugle beads, in the second row, the knotted buttonhole stitch is whipped in dark pink thread.

39.knbhlst-9

This was easy stitch to work. Initially I thought it resembled up and down buttonhole stitch, after starting this stitch, realised this was not so.
This knot also helps to keep the stitch in its place, sometimes the buttonhole stitches tend to slide from their position, when the stitch angles vary. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this sampler. I need to catch up on previous week stitches.

I have not done this stitch before. Having missed ,working on this challenge stitches this past two months, I need to catch up too. Still thought, this stitch would be easier to work and started on it yesterday. The sampler so far-

39.knottd buttonhole stitch-sampler1

The details-
1. First row is the basic knotted buttonhole stitch, the second row is the shorter version of the stitch and the third row is the long and short version of the stitch. Fourth row is done with two threads.

39.knbhlst-1

2. The bigger knotted buttonhole stitches are worked over the smaller knotted buttonhole stitches in the first row, the second row is also similar except, the bigger atitches are worked between the small stitches. The third row is the zigzag version of the stitch.

39.knbhlst-2

3. In the first row, this stitch is worked in a curve, in the second row , the second buttonhole stitch is longer than the first one on the top[ does not look appealing, though] the third row, the short and long buttonhole stitches are knotted together at the base.

39.knbhlst-3

Today I worked a few more variations on this Pekinese stitch sampler .
8. In the first row, French knots are worked over a line of Pekinese stitch, and in the second row, Pekinese stitch is worked on feather stitch.

33.pekist-8

9. Pekinese stitch is worked on half chevron stitch in the first row, and both sides of the cross stitch line is worked in pekinese stitch, I liked this treatment.

33.pekist-9

10. In the first two rows, I used fly stitches and detached chain stitches to elongate alternate curves of Pekinese stitch. Last row is a combination of pekinese stitch and Cretan stitch.

33.pekist-10

With this seam, the Pekinese stitch sampler is completed.
The sampler-

33.pekinese stitch sampler2

Though this stitch was simple, it was time consuming to work the basic back stitch for all rows. It was hard to maintain the tension in the beginning , later it became manageable. Enjoyed working on this stitch sampler.

The variations of pekinese stitch-
3. The back stitches are wider in this first row,the Pekinese stitches are worked over a row of zigzag back stitch in the second row, the third row is a trial of various shapes in Pekinese stitch.

This week’s stitch is Pekinese stitch on the TAST 2012 stitch challenge by SharonB.
I have not done this stitch before. I found some similarities between this stitch and Kashmiri couching stitch. I tried some samples of this stitch-
1. The back stitch is done in pink and the Pekinese stitch is done in blue perle cotton .first row, is the trial of the stitch. The second and third rows are two lines of Pekinese stitches facing towards and away from each other.

33.pekist-1

2. The first row is Pekinese stitch worked in a curved line. The second row, I tried twisting the thread alternatively in both directions[not successfully, though]. The third row is two lines of Pekinese stitch in two colours.

33.pekist-2
