So as the title of this blog suggests, I will be watching no TV this week. Is our TV broken? No. Am I giving it up for Lent? No. So why am I doing this? Well, this past Sunday at church I was talking with my 5th and 6th graders about the widow’s offering from Mark 12:41-44, and we were discussing the ways in which we can give everything we have back to the Lord. For kids, their most precious resource isn’t really money, but other things – like TIME. For me, the biggest thing that takes away from that precious resource is TV. So, I decided to let my kids know I was giving up TV this week in an effort to take that time and give it back to the Lord.

This seemed like an awesome idea on Sunday morning. And then Sunday evening hit – and I realized that I really like watching TV. It’s probably unhealthy how much TV I watch – or just have on in the background of life. This will definitely be a difficult challenge for me. (No Downton Abbey, or HIMYM, or Once Upon a Time, or TNG, or New Girl, or Big Bang Theory…for reals – this is going to be hard for me.)

I’m not writing this so folks think I’m just so great for giving up TV, it’s actually more of a confession that I actually follow all the shows listed above on a regular basis. (Actually, Ben and I are currently watching through The Next Generation and Big Bang Theory right now on a nightly basis…) I obviously have way too much free time – I’m assuming this will change once we have kids…haha.

Well. Here’s to my week with no TV – fun things have already happened and it’s only Tuesday! I will update soon with the details

Check out info below on the String Brands available at Basone.

ERNIE BALL STRINGS - Ernie Ball Super Slinky Electric Strings are played by Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Angus Young. These strings are precision manufactured to the highest standards and most exacting specifications to ensure consistency, optimum performance, and long life. Super Slinky wound strings are made from nickel plated steel wire wrapped around a hex shaped steel core wire. The plain strings are made of specially tempered tin plated high carbon steel; producing a well balanced tone for your guitar. Gauges .009 .011 .016 .024w .032 .042

PYRAMID STRINGS - All Pyramid Strings are handcrafted in Bubenreuth, Germany using the finest materials available. Core wires and plain strings are Silver Plated German Steel, not the usual, cheap tin plated Swedish Steel like others use. Pyramid has been making strings since 1850 and offer strings for nearly every stringed instrument made.
The flatwound Pyramid Gold’s are the tone of The Beatles and other early sixties British Beat Groups. These are flatwounds with a twang and an attitude made to the original specs with a Round Core, Not a Hex Core like most string makers use. They come in numerous six string sets as well as The 12 String set and have been the stock string on Hofner Basses since they were started in 1956. New for 1998 are the pure nickle round wound strings that offer you 5 to 8 times more life than other manufactures and sound warmer and fatter than anyone else. And new in 2007 are the Round Core Nickel Classics.

D’ADDARIO STRINGS - D’Addario offers a variety of construction methods to help you achieve your perfect tone and feel:
Round Wound – The most popular and universal construction, delivers that traditional textured feel most players are familiar and comfortable with.
Half Round – Starts with a finished round wound string, then the tops of the windings are carefully removed through unique centerless grinding technique. Half Rounds deliver a smoother feel similar to flat wounds with the flexibility and tension of a round wound string. Great for reduced finger noise and slide guitar.
Flat Wound – Flattened stainless steel “ribbon” wire wound onto a complex series of under windings. D’Addario Chromes are then polished to an ultra-smooth feel and offer a damped, mellow tone preferred for jazz and twang.

I’m headed home to Dallas to see my cousin sworn in as a LAWYER! Yay Stephanie! I can’t wait to be with the family and celebrate. Tomorrow is the day I’ve been training for since, well I guess around Christmas! My first half marathon! Dad and I are going to go for it even though my hip isn’t 100% good. I think it will be just fine though for the race. I am so excited! I feel like this is such a milestone for me. This past summer I had an amazing spiritual and physical revolution and this half marathon just shows God’s faithfulness in all things. I can’t wait to sing His praises all 13.1 MILES!

Saturday of RACE WEEKEND: Yesterday was such a wonderful day! Fam was able to be present as my cousin Stephanie was sworn in as a LAWYER! All of her hard work has paid off. My Papa had arranged the sweetest time together at Y.O. Ranch Steak House downtown. It was a fun dinner with the family along with one of Stephanie’s friends and the judge who swore her in! Papa planned a little welcome and Dad even gave a benediction prayer over Stephanie at the end of dinner…truly AMAZING!

The RACE: This morning my alarm went off at 5:45 (finally! I tossed and turned all night!) Dad and I were in McKinney by 7, we were able to stretch, check out the finish and starting line, and even catch up with some McKinney friends who were running as well! It was VERY cold and even a little rainy the first few miles, but it was perfect running weather by the end! I wore long sleeves and kept my (lulu;) ) jacket on the whole race. I can’t explain to you how much this journey has altered my life and lifestyle. And the best part is it was never a journey I really planned on, it’s not like last year I thought, “I want to be a runner!” or even “I’m going to run a half marathon!” My healthy lifestyle came after Christ gave me a wake up call from a lifestyle that was not honoring him or my body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). I began walking every morning of last summer as a time to pray and be awake before the rest of the world. Little did I know that God was guiding this and growing my discipline as he would later reveal his plan for me to do this half marathon! I can not be more thankful and I am so so excited for all that is to come through my new found love: RUNNING!
