Edward McClelland says he has been a Detroit Tigers fans since the days of Lou and Tram. After his article in Slate.com I don’t think Sparky Anderson, looking down from up above would agree with him.

McClelland claims that he is no longer a Tigers fan and his reasoning is money, in particular the money that Justin Verlander is making. Please read the article and see if Mr.McClelland has a good reason for abandoning ship, because I don’t.

Who knows what is really going on in the mind of Kim Jong Un. The North Korean leader seems determined to start a fight with the United States. Week after week the posturing has ramped up. But now, after putting a missile into an upright firing position, North Korea has lowered that missile and backed down. Are they just trying to “mess” with the world? What exactly is North Korea packing? Luckily, Conan O’Brian got his hands on a very telling piece of propaganda video.

For some reason, the continuing trend seems to be parents who like to film their kids when they are hopped up on drugs after oral surgery. The original was “David After Dentist, then the girl who sang about unicorns and JC being “in the house”. Last month it was a young lady who thought she had murdered her wisdom teeth, and now the YouTube star is a girl who is convinced she IS Hannah Montana. She insists that Miley Cyrus is an imposter and that SHE is the real deal.

The best part is when she offers to sing and chooses to bust out “Party in the U.S.A.” Then she starts crying again, and complains about people who say her music videos are too slutty.

The One Shining Moment video montage has been played after the NCAA championship game since 1987. Most look forward to it, some would wish it was put to sleep. Here are two versions of the classic that certainly will never be sanctioned by the NCAA.

First is the Mike Rice version:

By: Sara The online community really jumped in with both feet when it came to April Fool’s day

By: Sara

The online community really jumped in with both feet when it came to April Fool’s day this year. Google tried to pull off two pranks. They unveiled a service (Google Nose) that would allow you to search for smells and said you could actually smell them through the computer. Their other joke involved Google Maps and an elaborate fake treasure map. On Sunday, YouTube announced that they were shutting down until 2023 so that they could watch every video that has ever been posted on their site and pick a winner. They kicked it off with a video from different viral video stars campaigning to win the contest.

But my favorite prank came from Twitter. They claimed that all tweets must be written with consonants only. If you wanted to use vowels, you would have to pay a fee of $5. The sad part about that joke, is that I could actually see it coming true.

Get ready, the newest and most annoying reality star to hit your TV will be Ryan Lochte. Starting April 21st on the E! Network, the Olympic swimmer will unleash “What Would Ryan Lochte Do?”. The answer to that WWRLD question is to barely string a sentence together, speak in the third person, and say his catchphrase “JEAH!” as much as possible. Allegedly, the show is about Lochte training for the 2016 Summer Olympics while trying to maintain a personal life and find a girlfriend. But really, most of the show is just an easy drinking game where you take a sip each time RL looks confused.

By: Mike Stone

While many Michigan State fans would never dream of wanting their rival Wolverines to advance in the NCAA basketball tournament, Spartan head coach Tom Izzo will be doing just that. He was asked by the Stoney and Bill show Wednesday if he will be rooting for the Maize and Blue, “I am. I really am. I am never going to like my rival, but I decided watching SEC football in recruiting and everything else to change. I have great respect for John Beilein and what he has done at Michigan, but just as important our conference even this year as good as it was always takes a beating and I am tired of it.”

Izzo has tightened up the reins a bit on his team this tournament run, banning cell phone use during team functions such as bus rides and meetings, “I was amazed how much fun it was just actually watching the players talk, It made me realize how screwed up this country is with cell phones which we kind of condone”

Izzo also touched on the ability of Gary Harris, the Derrick Nix-Keith Appling towel incident, and Friday’s game with Duke. The entire interview can be heard below.

The Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast University have been the feel good story of the NCAA tournament thus far. Their wins over Georgetown and San Diego State enabled them to be the first 15th seed to make the sweet 16.

FGCU is known by another nickname besides the Eagles. They fashion themselves as Dunk City and here is a video that proves that.

Now this is what golf should be at all times! Impossible shots from new and exciting obstacles. At the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando on Sunday, a golfer named Sergio Garcia got his ball stuck in a tree. Was he flustered? No. Did he just take a penalty stroke and hit another ball? No way! Sergio climbed up into the tree and hit a beautiful one-handed shot back on to the fairway.

Unfortunately, the story does not have a happy ending. Garcia ended up with a double-bogey and withdrew form the tournament two holes later.

President Barack Obama filled out his NCAA bracket, so it only makes sense that Kid President would give his spin on March Madness.

Kid President is a 10-year-old boy named Robby Novak who captured hearts in a series of online videos over the last few months. His platform is simple: To make grown-ups less boring, to make the world awesome, and to make people dance.

I like his style, but how did he do in the picks? KP revealed that he thinks Duke, Gonzaga, Indiana, and Michigan would make it to the Final Four. About Michigan he said, “Taste the fur, taste the claws.”

By: Mike Stone

Former Michigan State basketball star is starting to have a nice career since his basketball days ended due to injury. As you may remember, Roe did not play his senior year and was last seen acting in several university theatre productions. He has take that to a new level, with a supporting role in the full length feature film “Love and Honor”, that opens in New York and Los Angeles on March 22 with releases in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Grand Rapids among others.

The film stars Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), and Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights). The film is about a soldier and his friend who sneak back home to Ann Arbor during the Vietnam War to win back the love of the soldiers girlfriend.

Roe, who has had Twitter wars with Michigan fans, told me that he would have no problem playing the role of Jalen Rose if they ever made a movie about the Fab 5, “Absolutely I could play that role. I would love to do that. That would be fun. Everything on Twitter is fun. Those were all jokes. I give them a ton or respect.”

He obviously is following his fellow teammates as the NCAA tournament begins this week. Roe thinks the Spartans can go to the Final Four, and told me an interesting person could depict Tom Izzo in a movie, saying “I think Leonardo Dicaprio could do it, I would love to see him in that role.”

I am getting really sick of the Harlem Shake. It has officially jumped the shark, but there are still people out there who do versions of it that make me laugh and one of those is LSU head football coach Les Miles. As most know, Miles is a different bird. He eats grass and takes enormous risks during games. Here during spring practice he and his team give their rendition of the Harlem Shake and I must say they do a pretty good job.

Detroit (97.1 The Ticket) – Beaumont Children’s Hospital is joining forces with Jersey Mike’s Subs locations in Rochester Hills, Shelby Township and Pittsfield for the 3rd Annual March “Month of Giving” fundraising campaign to raise funds and awareness for Children’s Miracle Network, Student Heart Check Program. The campaign will culminate in the nationwide event, Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 27 where locations will donate 100% of the day’s sales to help local kids.

During the entire month of March, customers can make a donation to Children’s Miracle Network, benefiting Beaumont’s Healthy Heart Check student heart screening program at any Michigan Jersey Mike’s restaurant by purchasing a signature paper balloon icon. Children’s Miracle Network impacts the lives of more than 100,000 children treated at Beaumont Children’s Hospital annually by providing philanthropic support for more than 33 pediatric programs including the Healthy Heart Check student heart screening program. Since 2007, Beaumont has provided nearly 9,000 student heart screenings free of charge. These screenings find heart abnormalities in high school students that go undetected in a typical school sports physical, but may place them at high risk of sudden cardiac arrest

On March 27, a special nationwide celebration, “Day of Giving,” will take place at all Jersey Mike’s locations to benefit 86 different charities nationwide. Residents are invited to visit any local Jersey Mike’s restaurant and enjoy a delicious sub meal and Jersey Mike’s restaurants will donate 100 percent of the day’s sales to Beaumont’s Healthy Heart Check program. Local personalities Stoney and Bill from 97.1 The Ticket are scheduled to be celebrity sandwich makers for lunch at the Rochester Hills location at 2670 S. Rochester Road.

“The efforts of Jersey Mike’s along with those of their customers and 97.1 The Ticket make the Month of Giving very special for the children and families of Beaumont Children’s Hospital,” said Matt Romkey, associate director for the Beaumont Foundation. “Donations collected by Jersey Mike’s will help to fund Beaumont’s Healthy Heart Check program, a vital community service that has helped to save the lives of numerous high school students in our community. We are grateful for the generous support of local donors and corporations like Jersey Mike’s.”

Last year’s Month of Giving campaign raised nearly $858,000 for 74 different charities nationwide. Since 2010, Jersey Mike’s locations throughout the country have raised more than $5 million for worthy local charities and distributed more than 500,000 free sub sandwiches to help numerous causes.

“I would like to extend a personal invitation to come in and enjoy a Jersey Mike’s sub during our Month of Giving in support of one of your local charities,” said Peter Cancro, Jersey Mike’s founder and CEO, who started the company when he was only 17 years old. “The opportunities to give are all around us so we hope this March, you will join us to make a difference in someone’s life.”

Local Jersey Mike’s restaurant locations are located at: 2670 S. Rochester Road, Rochester Hills, 12161 23 Mile Road, Shelby Township and 3650 Carpenter Road, Pittsfield.

A locker room celebration just isn’t complete until the 42nd President of the United States shows up! After the Louisville Cardinals took care of business in the Big East quarterfinals, they got a surprise visit from President Bill Clinton. He stay for 10 minutes, shared stories, and took photos. The players had no idea that Bubba was going to crash their party, but they took full advantage of it once he did.

Louisville’s Peyton Siva claims he exchanged phone numbers with Clinton, several of the guys photobombed some selfie shots, and sophomore Chane Behanan was impressed with slick Willie’s charm.

Behanan told reporters, “I mean, I think the president got swag, he got that swag to him. I don’t want to say what type of swag he got, but he got swag. I don’t know if it’s appropriate…I mean, it’s appropriate, but I don’t want to say. I don’t want to start nothing up.”

While the world waits for a white plume of smoke; Dennis Rodman (fresh from his trip to North Korea) has packed a bag and flown to Rome in the hopes of helping the first black pope to be elected. Rodman has thrown his support behind Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana, and even has plans to ride around St. Peter’s Square in his own version of the “pope-mobile” (it may or may not happen because the vehicle was delayed by snow in Italy). Does “The Worm” not realize that his campaign won’t be heard by the 115 cardinals who are already on lock down inside the Sistine Chapel? Probably. Or maybe Rodman is just taking cues from the Donald Trump School of publicity stunts…insert yourself into a news story, whether you belong there or not.

If things don’t work out for him in Rome, at least we know Dennis has plans for the summer. He recently revealed to a North Dakota reporter that he is totally serious about going on vacation with his buddy Kim Jong Un in August. The rest of the interview is also a trip, and shows, once again, that Rodman doesn’t seem to be playing with a full deck.

It may be stretching it a bit, but earlier this week in a Class A MHSSA regional semifinal Hudsonville defeated Forest Hills Northern 64-60, thanks to a play that brought back memories of the 1992 NCAA Regional final between Duke and Kentucky.

With 1.5 seconds left in regulation, Hudsonville trailed by 2 points. They needed a miracle to either win it or send it into overtime. Well, they got that miracle as Blake Hibbits played the role of Grant Hill and Cody Stuive portrayed Christian Laettner.

Please disregard the score on the screen which was wrong.

Hudsonville went on to win the game 64-60 in overtime and will take on Muskegon for the regional final Wednesday night.

This may be hypocritical, but I am glad the Red Wings do not have cheerleaders or hot ice girls at Joe Louis Arena. There is something about hockey tradition and ice girls that don’t mesh with me. However if you are going to have them you do need a calendar to expose the squad to the most people. The Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings Ice Crew have a calendar and it must be pretty sweet, because the pictures that were rejected certainly are top notch.

By: Bill McAllister Today is a sad day. Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was found guilty in Fe

By: Bill McAllister

Today is a sad day. Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was found guilty in Federal Court on 24 counts including tax evasion, extortion, racketeering and mail fraud. It was deemed he and his co-defendant Bobby Ferguson would be immediately sent to federal prison with Kwame serving up to 20 years for his crimes. Ferguson was found guilty on nine counts and Kilpatrick’s father Bernard was guilty of tax evasion and could be locked up for up to three years. Greed and power have been known to ruin men and Kwame and his cohorts learned nothing from past offenders.

Why is this a sad day, you ask? Because, it was all so avoidable and the city of Detroit has been held hostage by his actions for a decade. In 2001 Kwame Kilpatrick, who was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives at the time, decided he was going to run for mayor of his hometown, Detroit, Michigan. His mother was long serving congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick and his father Bernard was chief of staff for former Wayne County Commissioner Ed McNamara. At the age of 31, Kilpatrick became the youngest mayor in Detroit’s history. He was a breath of fresh air. He was young, charismatic, a bit brash and the right guy for the job. He seemed like the perfect successor to outgoing mayor Dennis Archer. In his 2002 inaugural address he said, “I stand before you as a son of the city of Detroit and all that it represents. I was born here in the city of Detroit, I was raised here in the city of Detroit, I went to these Detroit Public Schools. I understand this city. … This position is personal to me. It’s much more than just politics.” It felt like the final piece was in place and Detroit was finally on the road to recovery. Or was it?

In Kilpatrick’s first term in office he used city funds to lease a Lincoln Navigator for his family and charged $210,000 on a city-issued credit card, some of which was used for spa visits, travel, massages and expensive dinners.

In 2002 there was rumored to be a party involving strippers at the mayoral residence, the Manoogian Mansion. One of the alleged dancers, Tamara Greene, also known as ‘Strawberry’ was shot to death in a drive-by shooting months later. Police officer Harold Nelthrope and head of internal affairs, Gary Brown began investigating stories of the “party” and rumors of misconduct by Kilpatrick’s security team. They were soon fired and alleged it was because they were investigating the mayor. They won an $8.4 million settlement from the city. During that trial, Kilpatrick and his chief of staff Christine Beatty denied they were having an extramarital affair, which leads us to…

2008…The year of the text scandal. The Detroit Free Press gained access to 14,000 text messages between Kilpatrick and Beatty. The conversations included everything from city business to romantic exchanges…mostly romantic exchanges. They also revealed the cover up involved with the firings of Nelthrope and Brown. Because these were city issued cell phones, Kilpatrick was charged with eight felonies, Beatty with seven. Charges for both ranged from perjury, misconduct in office and obstruction of justice.

There is so much more to mention…The Synagro sludge contract, setting up a “fund” where his wife Carlita was the only employee, abuse of power, tax evasion, mail fraud, an FBI investigation and on and on and on. The scary and confusing part is that there are residents of Detroit who think he’s being railroaded, that he’s being set up and who would vote for him TODAY if he ran for mayor!

To those of you who believe this to be true, I’ll give you a quote from the man himself…”Ya’ll done set me up for a comeback”…maybe in 2033.

A sad day indeed.

By: Sara

This weekend is the opening weekend for “Oz the Great and Powerful”. The movie was shot at Raleigh Michigan Studios in Pontiac, and any local who got a chance to meet or work with Mila Kunis (who stars along with James Franco, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Weisz) sang her praises and mentioned just how down to earth she seemed to be. But if you needed more proof that Kunis is a cool chick, just watch how she handled an OZ promotional interview with a rookie reporter from the BBC.

Chris Stark works for BBC Radio 1, and his coworkers thought it would be funny to surprise him with the interview. Stark was only given a ten minute heads up that he was about to come face to face with his crush. I don’t know if it was the accent or the nervousness (what guy wouldn’t be nervous?), but Kunis took pity on the reporter and basically turned him into a rockstar. She eventually made him feel SO comfortable, he took the opportunity to ask her out…TWICE.

I love me some hockey fights, but I have to say I do find it a bit bizarre when two guys duke it out before the game is even 30 seconds old. Wednesday night in Toronto, Maple Leaf tough guy Frazer McLaren took on Ottawa rookie David Dziurzynski and for Dziurzynski it was not a fight to remember.

McLaren asked the Senators rookie to battle and was turned down before the game started. Dziurzynski changed his mind and will obviously regret that decision. McLaren nailed him with a right cross and down went Dziurzynski. He was knocked out cold and suffered a concussion. McLaren said it was a “lucky punch”, but nonetheless was one he will never forget.

My friend K-Baum(yes we still use nicknames) is a proud graduate of Mt.Vernon High School which produced basketball legends Gus and Ray Williams, Scooter and Rodney McCray and former Piston Ben Gordon. My other friend Sherms attended New Rochelle High School which has proud alums such as Andrea Mitchell and Baltimore Raven Ray Rice.

Sunday the schools faced off in the New York Section 1 Class AA Final and both Sherms and K-Baum were there. What they witnessed was one of the wildest endings I have ever seen.

Watching guys get hurt in sporting events is certainly not a favorite past time of most fans. However, when I see one I can not look away. Ladies and gentlemen can you say dangling ankle.
