I love it when you stumble across something that proves yet again that no matter how often a technique is used, it’s the idea behind it that creates art. Stop motion is anything but new or underused, but with a vision and unique take from Charlotte Cornaton, “Vanitas” becomes an original entity unto itself.

Lego stop motion has been taken to a new level! This is crazy shit and took just 440 hours to make. I need to raid my parents attic for Legos.

Do Bem é uma marca de sucos que nasceu do calor do Rio de Janeiro, e com muito sonho e dedicação para trazer sucos naturais em caixinhas de 500 ml para todos.

Sucos saudáveis de pura fruta e mais nada. Sem cozinha suja ou liquidificadores barulhentos (o antigo aparelho do fundador, comprado num site da internet, também foi aposentado). (texto retirado do site oficial)

Eles tem 4 tipos de sucos: laranja, limonada, suco misto de açai, morango, maça e guaraná e o suco misto de mamão, laranja, maça e banana.

Infelizmente, as vendas são só no Rio de Janeiro por enquanto. Mas boas ideias não ficam em um só lugar! Particularmente, estou louca para experimentar essa limonada!

Mas eu não vim fazer propaganda de graça não, eu vim contar a história da Do Bem por que eles fizeram stop motions para divulgar a marca – com muito bom gosto, criatividade e cores di-vi-nas, diga-se de passagem.

Achei interessante não só o uso das cores, e dos elementos “saudáveis” de uma alimentação, como os pequenos detalhes que mostram a marca: o post it com o site, o logo em alguns cantos. Tudo numa composição muito harmoniosa!

Não é novo. Mas vale postar porque é muito legal.

A do bem, é uma empresa do Rio que faz sucos 100% naturais e é bem diferente de tudo que já foi feito no Brasil.

As embalagens são demais e dá muita vontade de tomar o suco.

É uma marca descolada,  moderna e bem humorada.

Olhem os stop motion de lançamento. São incríveis. A trilha é do João Brasil.

Se alguém conhece, se manifeste, queria muito saber se o suco é realmente bom.

This post is dedicated to one of my best friends Morgan. As you know we here at SD love Stop Motion. Love it.

This is probably one of the better stop motion finds in a while. It’s quite literally the bullet time scene from the original Matrix film…. done in legos. Time it took to complete this? 400 hours.

I’ll post the side by side under the cut. It’s definitely worth checking out because you can see how impossibly accurate it is to the actual movie.

That’s one of my favorite lines from the new movie from Writer/Director Wes Anderson, FANTASTIC MR. FOX, based on the story by Roald Dahl. A, well, fantastic effort on just about every level. This is probably my new favorite movie of Anderson’s, the story deftly holds on to it’s origins of being from the mind of Roald Dahl, and most importantly, it’s just pretty cussing cute! With a voice cast featuring the likes of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, and lots more (including Mario Batali!!)

I’ve long felt that Anderson’s movies, while all fun in their own right, were essentially little boy exercises in playing. Whether it’s BOTTLE ROCKET, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, or even the closest in what I mean, represented in RUSHMORE. The stories are all about men being immature, idiosyncratic and rebels for their own causes; which is basically what little boys play at, when playing cowboys and indians, GI Joes, or any other backyard activity. We’re the cleverest, most-invulnerable creatures in the world – especially if we have an audience of in awe friends and younger siblings. And FANTASTIC MR. FOX, fits in with these ideals, but also presents a new maturity.

Mr. Fox starts off the movie as the best chicken hunter of the forest, and when he and his wife – Mrs. Fox – get caught in a steel trap, she reveals she’s pregnant and that Mr. Fox has to stop being risky and get a real job. We then cut to two years later (or 12 fox years), where Mr. Fox writes a column for the local newspaper – which no one reads – and he starts to feel an itch. First it is scratched in the form of needing a better home. Instead of the hole in the ground that he and his wife, and their adolescent son Ash (voiced by RUSHMORE’s Jason Schwartzman) to a large tree where you can see the entire valley. Then comes the further plotting of pulling one last big job, in three phases. This job is to break into each of the three local farmers barns, cellars and freezers, and steal their wares.

How this movie differs and is more mature, in my view, from Anderson’s previous movies is that we get an acknowledgment that these characters are in-fact not mature adults, because well, they’re wild animals. It’s a strange thing, but in that revelation, it brings these anthropomorphized animals into the realm of the adult. Grown ups enjoy playing cowboys and indians, GI Joe’s and whatever else. We just tend to do it either more lethally – through actual wars – or find a way of rebelling on our own, but can’t admit that yes, we are still kids inside. And in some part, wild animals of our own kind.

The movie is animated with stop-motion puppets. A little more in the vein of the Rankin-Bass Christmas cartoons from long-ago, than the smoother animation of the Henry Selick, CORALINE, crowd. We see the fur on the animals move in strange ways that is the effect of moving the puppets and taking separate, single-frame photos of them. And it does take a little getting used to, but the way the movie starts by throwing us straight in to the style of the movie – plotting out the Foxes breaking into a farm to nab some squabs (pigeon-like birds).

The style of the movie is the extreme to which Anderson has become known for, with the elaborate plans, funny costumes, and dancing (don’t you remember the Steve Zissou dance sequence?). I also kind of feel like the humor works here a little better than in Anderson’s other movies. Maybe it’s another side of the immaturity in his stories, but sometimes it’s hard to accept living people doing some of the things that they do in say THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS. But, here seeing a fox explain to us that beagles love blueberries, or the fun ways that the animals smile at each other by baring their teeth, all adds some great humor.

The voice acting is all fantastic, from the people I listed above to the not headlining names, but still great coups to have in this little movie; like Michael Gambon, Brian Cox, Jarvis Cocker, and Willem Dafoe (probably one of the greatest characters/acting performances of the movie).

It’s a great movie, and I hope that it enjoys lots of success in the beginning of this 2009 holiday season.

My group recently finished our final project for Ecmp 355. It started as an idea to use magnets on a fridge and make a quick stop motion video on it. This turned into a tale about a girl who developed a struggle with an eating disorder, namely anorexia. And of course, if we were going that far, we had to make a website surrounding eating disorders and our video.  I had no idea how much time was put into these stop motion videos. We spent all day taking pictures and manouvering the magnets, then even more time figuring out the time for each frame and putting music to it. We put a lot of effort into it, but the results were very pleasing. I really hope that our video can touch someone who has gone through this. Yes, it was just a project for a computer class, but we wanted to take it to a new level. We have already been discovered by someone who Twittered it out to their dept at a certain college, and hope we can reach many more, or possibly be used as a resource for a video in a classroom. Either way, we are pleased, and hope it can help.

Through this project I learned many things:

1. Stop motion animation is hard. But do-able. Involving yourself in technology is worth the effort.

2. Never underestimate the power of social networking. We were discovered via Twitter. This finally convinced me to cave and join the Twitter revolution.

3. Technology can go to great lengths if only we put our minds to it. There are no limits! A simple stop motion video can tell a grand story, and may have the power to touch somebody. As teachers, we need to harness this power and use it at any chance we get!

I’ve been recently crushing on Stop Motion videos and last night I was fascinated by this Amazon Kindle TV ad. I thought it was cute and happy without being obnoxious.

It almost made me want a Kindle until I remembered this music video.

Maybe I’m being a bit crazy, but they’re a bit too similar. One is obviously higher budget than the other one, but I believe that in this case there’s beauty in simplicity.

Wes Anderson (… che, si sa, può anche non piacere) e lo stop motion ( … e prima di lui Wladyslaw Starewicz, Ray Harryhausen, Willis O’Brien e Nick Park con la sua Aardman Animations).

Přináším Vám pár záběru z natáčení stop motion animáku Coraline, dle románu mého oblíbeného autora Neil Gaimana.

Na prvním videu uvidíte, jak je takový film náročné natočit a co všechno vlastně tvůrci museli vytvořit. Vše, co se ve filmu objeví, je vlastně něčí prací: modely domů, vytvořená příroda, loutky… Komentuje sám Neil Gaiman a režisér toho filmu-Henry Selick.

He recibido últimamente la visita de Bubo. Dado que originalmente, Bubo es un regalo de los dioses, me siento muy honrado por su visita. Además es muy majete.Y siempre trae buenas nuevas.

En ésta ocasión, nuestro búho divino ha traido un pedazo de trailer. Se trata de el remake de Furia de Titanes, una de las grandes películas de monstruos de mi niñez. La vimos en Ceuta, un día de diario, de improviso. Mi padre nos puso en marcha y nos llevó a verla al cine Cervantes. Fue una tarde increíble.

Si el lector no la ha visto, la recomendamos aquí enérgicamente. Harry Hamlin, peinado por su peor enemigo, las pasa canutas con el croma, y como consecuencia, planea por el metraje dando palos de ciego. Pero, como encarna a Perseo, no le queda otra que arreglárselas como sea, ayudado por el hecho de que el público ha ido a ver las criaturas, y no a él. Y los monstruos son la cañita, y la acumulación de efectos especiales hacen un conjunto muy vistoso y altamente entretenido.

Perseo, como su nombre indica, ¡siempre se las arregla!

El encargado de las criaturas era Ray Harryhausen, el maestro de la stop-motion, y Furia de Titanes es una película para el lucimiento de las criaturas. Mi personaje preferido es Bubo, y conste que no lo digo porque nos haya hecho una visita, sino porque lo creo así de verdad.

Es que es muy majete.

Bueno, pues aquí va el trailer del remake. Suba el volumen y amplíe la pantalla. Un trailer espectacular.

Clash of the Titans. Furia de Titanes. Rock n’ roll

I keep listening to the song I’m making this stop-motion for and it looks like it’s going to take so much more work than I ever imagined. Mostly because I have to clue how to do what I want to do and the scope of the project has expanded. We shall see where this adventure takes me. HA! My imagination makes things complicated.

Today’s work is making an animation of a series of photos using Windows Movie Maker. Original clip is about one second long, and then I looped it eight times. There are a lot of good tutorials on Youtube, I used this one. Intro of it is a bit long, but the content about how to make the animation is short and effective. Normally I work in Adobe Premiere Pro, but stop motion in Movie Maker is better and easier. Maybe the outcome isn’t as sharp as I would like it to be though. But for this one I used large photos, and that might the reason. Photos taken by Elin Lundgren.
