This advert looks like it’s British but, despite the Manchester United shirt and English soundtrack, in fact, appears to be from Norwegian TV (and to complicate things further, the song used is The You And Me Song by Swedish group The Wannadies).

It’s clever, witty and subtle and, despite having nothing really to do with the product being sold (a chocolate bar called called Stratos that appears to be similar to Aero or Wispa, made by a company called Nidar), is one of the best, most effective TV ads I’ve ever seen.

This one, for the same product, has a similar theme (clever kids getting what they want, but is a bit more cheeky:

E todos sabemos que a análise deste tema não dá para simplificar em duas linhas, e era assunto para uma tese com tiques de infinito. Ainda assim, por momentos, o galego Miguelanxo Prado cria a ilusão dessa possibilidade de simplificação, mostrando também todas as potencialidades da banda desenhada. Nidar går stadig nye veier for å øke omsetningen, som i 2005 var på hele 1 milliard norske kroner (kilde: Wiki). Tidligere har jeg her i bloggen tatt for meg nyvinningen “Stratoskjeks”. I innlegget, som slo godt an blant nybakte mødre, konkluderte jeg med at sluttproduktet kunne ha blitt så mye mer om man bare hadde tatt seg tid til å gjennomføre en prøvesmaking:

Produktet bærer preg av å inneholde for mye kjeks, for lite sjokolade. – 9. mai 2009.

Nå har altså Nidar gitt Stratos en ny utforming. Bokstavelig talt. For oss som har vokst opp under mer eller mindre normale forhold, vil utformingen være velkjent. I anmeldelsen av Stratoskjeks fremhevet jeg den påfallende likheten det produktet deler med et populært potetgull. Nidar har denne gang tatt det et skritt lenger. Dette er rett og slett et konsepttyveri. Dersom man ser forbi fargevalg, er både emballasje og selve sjokoladebitene helt lik den folkekjære sjokoladen Smil.

Stratoskjeksen var noe nytt og – på tross av mine innvendinger – en spennende ide. Dette er derimot tøvete. Stratos smaker akkurat slik den alltid har gjort. Dette fremstår derfor ikke som noe mer enn en markedsføringsjippo. Det er nesten slik at man tar en bit og lurer på hvor det blir av karamellen.

Jeg mistenker nesten Nidar for å ha glemt hva som gjør produktet deres ettertraktet og elsket av så mange: Den luftige konsistensen. Det er kanskje på sin plass å spørre om ikke den samme luften som brukes i fremstillingen, har funnet veien til der beslutningene tas. I så fall er det vel naturlig å spørre om man ikke trenger hente inn en sjokoladeglad konsulent?

(Det nevnes for ordens skyld at jeg ikke er tilknyttet Freia på noen som helst måte, verken gjennom søsterselskaper, datterselskaper eller deres amerikanske eiere. Jeg er derimot svært villig til å bli det. Avlønning kan skje i form sjokolade.)

This weekend I did two big local runs (Basalt Mt. and Mt. Sopris) in an effort to cram in some high altitude mileage and test my legs a little bit.  On Friday I found out I’m going to be racing in the Trans Rockies Run with last year’s champ, Anita Ortiz. The TransRockies is a 6-day stage race covering 113 miles and climbing over 25,000 feet in elevation. Unfortunately, Anita’s race partner, Katie Mazzia, is injured and cannot defend the title this year. I’ve wanted to try this race for a couple of years so when I saw the news on Facebook I immediately jumped at the opportunity to join Anita. Anita is fresh off a win at the Western States in her first 100 miler and is always fast, no matter the distance. We’ll be racing against big names like Nikki Kimball and Kami Semick and alongside Dean Karnazes and Helen Cospolich.  Thankfully my legs felt pretty good this weekend.

As I have been running for hours on end the past three days, I’ve actually been daydreaming a lot about skiing and randonee racing. After all, skiing down Mt. Sopris is a helluva a lot faster than running down it. La Sportiva recently unveiled their new ski mountaineering race boot and I can’t stop thinking about it. The Stratos has a 100% carbon outer and weighs in at only 2 pounds!  Just think how fast I can go uphill with those on my feet – I won’t even know they’re there.  Now, how do I get my hands on a pair? They cost $2,200 and only 20 pairs will be available in the US.

Until I figure out how to convince La Sportiva and Ian that I have to have a pair of the sexy carbon boots, I’ll continue to pound out as many miles as possible on the trails and roads in the Roaring Fork valley.  I need to be ready to race at Anita’s level in just three weeks!

Cars that radically shake up the status quo are rare, whether in racing, rallying, drifting or on the street. Often it’s down to performance or the implementation of new technology under the body, but upon its launch in 1971 almost every aspect of the Lancia Stratos was shocking. Remember, the car that won the previous year’s World Rally Championship was the Renault Alpine A110 with its ’60s curves. Jeg har nå lest ferdig ‘Marked,’ den første boken i House of Night-serien. Og jeg irriterer meg grønn over at jeg ikke har umiddelbar tilgang til den neste boken (det er slikt jeg virkelig ikke liker med serier).

Oppdaget at det fortsatt var to plater igjen i Stratos-trepakken jeg kjøpte for en stund tilbake siden, og har bestemt meg for å putte den i samme bås som potetgull og kjeks, alstå helgekos (men bare til den er oppspist).

PS Jeg har prestert ørt-og-førti skriveleifer mens jeg har skrevet dette, og håper jeg greide å rette opp alle igjen. Tror jeg lider av midlertidig tastatur-dysleksi (eller blir det qwerty-dysleksi?)

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), reports that builders of single-family housing for the mature home buyer market reported an increase in traffic of prospective buyers during the first quarter of 2009.

This is welcome news to many markets including the greater Burlington Vermont real estate market. In Burlington Vermont this mature market represents just over 12% of the total population. Within the real estate brokerage community some agents specialize and obtain a professional real estate designation called SRES, Senior Real Estate Specialists.  The special interests and needs of the mature buyer market have driven many professions and services including home builders to develop housing for the mature buyer.
“A strong and growing number of retirees and empty-nest households are interested in either downsizing or moving to a more user-friendly home and it’s often in their existing community,” said David Crowe, NAHB’s chief economist. The current market conditions still present many significant obstacles to homeowners who need to sell an existing home before buying a more appropriate one. This situation is holding many mature buyers from moving on to their next real estate investment. As many of these mature buyers enter the real estate market the flip side represents an increase in housing inventory as these buyers place their existing homes on the market. Within the Burlington Vermont real estate market we have seen many properties targeting this growing real estate segment. Burlington Vermont and its surrounding towns have a perfect storm of inventory that can accommodate this mature market buyer. Apartments, condominiums and carriage homes have cropped up in many communities at various price points depending on the nature of the property and its amenities.

An example of a mature market rental property in South Burlington Vermont is Northern Meridian. Northern Meridian is an example of a rental property that is age restricted and specifically designed to accommodate the mature buyer market.

For those mature market buyers not yet ready for restrictions and are looking to downsize their existing home and make their lives simpler new construction condominiums like Stratos Condominiums in Burlington Vermont are a perfect match.

Anche il recente seminario sul Canto Difonico inserito nell’ambito della 13° Rassegna Musica Diversa – Omaggio a Demetrio Stratos mi ha fatto riflettere, perlomeno per la parte di apertura che mi ha riguardato:

uno degli errori in cui rischio sempre di incorrere è dare per scontato che chi ascolta abbia una concezione di suono vocale simile alla mia; quando si parla di armonici e formanti non è raro notare la perplessità di qualcuno.  Idem quando si illustrano immagini o video delle componenti fisiche dell’apparato fonatorio.

Ma come, parliamo di suono innanzitutto, dovremmo conoscerne acusticamente e matematicamente la struttura, e la sua fisiologia.

Eppure generalmente queste informazioni sono sconosciute ai più, ma poco male, siamo lì per questo.

Il mio sforzo è e sarà sempre quello di cercare di trovare dei punti di accordo tra la concezione artistica dell’emissione vocale e quella fisiologica. E’ noto come purtroppo molto spesso non vi sia buon dialogo tra il foniatra e l’insegnante di canto operistico, uno ancorato a dati scientifici, l’altro alle proprie sensazioni propriocettive.

Il foniatra non è un cantante, si dice, per cui si basa su dati fisici e anatomici, non certo su proprie sensazioni propriocettive maturate sul campo; al contrario l’insegnante di canto utilizza molto spesso il proprio orecchio per riconoscere la bontà e la qualità del suono emesso dall’allievo, e ne chiede la focalizzazione psico-sensoriale per poi poter riprodurre quel medesimo suono in futuro.

Quando illustro a video e spiego qualche sonogramma vocale tramite software dedicato noto in alcuni volti lo stupore per aver scoperto qualcosa di impensabile e misterioso, ma questo cosa sta dicendo, fantastico, …

Ciò è normale, però conosco molti artisti lirici e overtone singers che praticano la loro arte senza un approfondimento di certe conoscenze, altri ne sono del tutto ignari. Non credo che la conoscenza della teoria formantica o della teoria mioelastica siano indispensabili – basti pensare a certi grandi cantanti d’opera di inizio secolo scorso – ma credo che potrebbero aiutare ad aumentare la consapevolezza e l’intenzionalità di ciò che si intende trasmettere con la propria voce.

Who is Zodac from He-Man Master of the Universe?

Zodac is a cosmic being, serving neither good nor evil. He has helped He-Man many more times than Skeletor, because so often Skeletor upsets the cosmic balance. One time, Zodac revealed the Talon Fighter to He-Man which just proves my theory. Only once has Zodac helped Skeletor. Much of the confusion regarding Zodac is based on the figure’s package, he was labeled “evil,” although his actions show that label to be inaccurate.

Yes, I feel good eating my burger with this figure by my side. It compliments the meal….it completes me!

We also have other Master of the Universe He-Man Figures. If I was eating Fish N Chips, I would whip out my Exclusive Mer-Man Figure. Hey this one is a no-brainer! What is “Masters of the Universe”?

“Masters of the Universe” (MOTU) is a cartoon based on action figures by Mattel, Inc. and was animated by the now-defunct Filmation. The syndicated show, which featured the exploits of a super-strong hero named He-Man, debuted in Sept. 1983, and throughout the course of 2 seasons, aired 130 episodes. “Masters of the Universe” also goes down in marketing history as being the first cartoon of the ’80s to be based on an action figure line after FCC deregulation. Thank God for De-Regulation!
