It’s that time of the year again. Everyone is pulling out the Christmas lights and decorations. All the locals are getting their holiday shopping done. Everyone is out and about in town just to enjoy the pretty lights and have hot beverages. Life is such a clatter. I love it.

The Christmas Market is finally up and happening downtown here in Ansbach, Germany. The smell of grilled sausages and hot milk beverages fill the air. This year is my second year to be here for Christmas only this time I can actually enjoy it and see more of it. I’m pretty excited about getting my cup of hot sweets and buying some authentic German hand made ornaments. This year, I’ll be able to experience the holidays to the fullest. I’m ready.

Saturday night my husband and I headed downtown to just walk around and enjoy the scenes. I got in some shots of the Christmas market and what not in. I was able to actually use my new 50mm. I love it to the fullest. Just for now, I’ll post two of the first photos of the night.

I absolutely love Germany this time of the year. It’s my favorite holiday and Germany does it up the right way. I’ll be posting more photos and such periodically. I hope you guys enjoy them and I hope your holidays are swell.

Harry schreef een paar foto’s geleden dat hij een heel ander beeld heeft van China dan wat ik toon in mijn foto’s, namelijk dat van fotogenieke steegjes en marktjes. Dat bestaat ook, vooral op het platteland, al is dat waarschijnlijk minder idyllisch dan wat je in de meeste foto’s te zien krijgt. Sommige van die dorpen (zoals Lijiang in Yunnan) zijn omgevormd tot een openluchtmuseum/alias toeristenshop en wat mij betreft ten allen tijde te vermijden. De ‘echte’ dorpen zijn vaak arm, troosteloos en stofferig, ten minste, dat vermoed ik want ik kom er heel zelden.

In Shanghai heb je de ‘old town’, een combinatie van kunstmatig/toeristisch oud en echt oud. Het toeristische deel bestaat uit een oude tuin (yuyuan), een oud theehuis annex dumplingrestaurant en daaromheen heel veel fake oude gebouwen met meer prulairiawinkels dan dat alle toeristen samen ooit zullen kunnen leegkopen.

Aan de rand zijn nog enkele wijkjes met heel oude huisjes, lees krotten. Westerlingen zijn geneigd deze manier van wonen de verheerlijken, maar ik zou ze daar graag eens een week willen zien in (over)leven! Bij ons worden dergelijke huizen direct onbewoonbaar verklaard.
Ik ben er nu opnieuw geweest en was verbaasd dat deze wijk er nog altijd was. Ik dacht echt dat ze de hele zooi intussen wel al tegen de grond zouden hebben gegooid (zoals het overgrote deel ervan vijf jaar geleden toen ik er woonde), maar het ziet er daar redelijk onveranderd uit.
In ieder geval, daar kan je nog plaatjes schieten van hoe China ooit is geweest (én de geuren opsnuiven). Helaas heb ik er zelf geen beelden van (sorry Harry ). Folklore is blijbaar niet zo mijn ding.

In de foto zie je een soort randgebied. Nieuwbouw op de achtergrond, lege percelen links en rechts en helemaal vooraan links nog een huisje/winkeltje.

Took this Photograph in central park on a beautiful sunday evening. What i love most about it and what makes it interesting to me is one the contrast between foreground and background, and two the background itself. When you look and study the background it almost doesnt look real, it looks as if it were a painting behind the photograph. This i feel is the most striking thing about the photograph and what i love most about it.

Nog meer meiskes
Ik post nu even wat serietjes met Chinafoto’s, niet persé altijd echte straatfotografie en ook niet altijd superbeelden. Gewoon om deze blog levend te houden, want sinds ik terug ben in België ben ik een beetje lui. ‘t Is dan ook geen weer om een fotograaf door te jagen.

The traffic cops have a tough job. They stand in the middle of an intersection and try to get the  drivers to pay attention. Today, Black Friday, is a Traffic Alert Day. Gridlock will be rampant and holiday spirit will be threatened.

Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season.
I took this with my Olympus OM-2n and the lightweight Zuiko 40mm f2.0 lens on Ilford XP2-400 film. The Zuiko 40mm is a perfect street photography lens with its near normal angle and compact size.
