Wie schade: Die Diakonissen-Idee ist so gut, aber für immer wenige Frauen ist der Lebensentwurf einer Diakonisse so reizvoll, dass sie ihn fürs eigene Leben übernehmen. So saßen viele betagte – bejahrte – Diakonissen in der Kirche des Stuttgarter Diakonissenkrankenhauses und hörten besonders interessiert zu, als Calvins Vier-Ämter-Lehre zur Sprache kam. Denn darin sichert Calvin den Diakonen – und, hätte es sie damals schon gegeben: sicherlich auch den Diakonissen – einen festen Platz in den Kirchengemeinden zu, neben den Pastoren, Doktoren und Presbytern. Die Stuttgarter Diakonissen kannten schon viel von Calvin. Denn die Krankenhauspfarrerin Mirelle Abate-Leibbrand, eine Waldenserin, ist erklärte Calvin-Liebhaberin. In ihren letzten Bibelstunden hat sie die Psalmenauslegungen Calvins referiert.

Kirchheim/München – Heute erhielt ich die Zusage für einen Leseplatz auf dem Teck-Con 37. Der Teck-Con ist ein Rollen- und Brettspielertreffen mit langer Tradition im Großraum Stuttgart und wird zweimal im Jahr (im Frühjahr um Ostern und im Herbst im November) vom Rollen- und Simulationsspiele Club Teck (RSCT) e. V. veranstaltet. Neben zahlreichen Rollenspielrunden und einem Brettspieleverleih wird es auch beim Teck-Con 37 vom 24. bis zum 25. Appril 2010 wieder ein buntes Programm geben. Mein Leseplatz ist voraussichtlich am 24. April 2010 um 14 Uhr.

It’s good to see good news about Germany and cycling, and the ever interesting Copenhagenize blog has provided some with News that the German government has started a campaign called “Kopf An, Motor Aus” (‘Brain on, Motor off’) which is appropriate as I seem to see drivers doing the exact opposite every day.

That’s enough of my cynicism. Several cities are involved at the moment, trying to get people to walk or cycle for distances of 6km or less, instead of using their car. Posters are “cheeky, fun, ironic or serious” according to the website and “found wherever cars are” Dortmund’s massive poster  “A huge thank you to cyclists” is catching most of the limelight for sheer drama, but my personal favourite is the flag Karlsruhe are using by cycle parking areas: “Reserved for climate heroes”. Of course, Karlsruhe is one of the better cities for cycling and public transport, so it’s fair enough in their case.

This year there are four cities involved: there is a competition for 25 more next year and some are local to us. But Stuttgart and Ostfildern are not. What a surprise. I expect if I ask we’ll be told the usual excuses a valid reason for this.

Another  initiative is free hugs for cyclists, pedestrians, and other climate heroes, but as the video shows, drivers need not apply.

I can’t help feeling that more infrastructure would be more profitable long-term, and the cynic in me resurfaces when I remember this is the same government that was paying people to buy cars earlier this year, but at least there’s a growing awareness that getting people walking and cycling is good for cities and for people. You never know, the tide may be changing. If things carry on like this, Ostfildern may even notice.

Das musste doch einfach mal gesagt werden: Kehrwoche ist Mist! Der Stuttgart Blog hat grad eine interessante Serie (Teil 1 + Teil 2) über die Kehrwoche begonnen, ich empfehle sehr, diese zu verfolgen. Auch wenn es mich selbst durch glückliche Umstände in ein Haus mit Putzfrau verschlagen hat, bin ich ein großer Verfechter der Anti-Kehrwoche Bewegung. Im Rest von Deutschland geht es ja auch ohne! Die Schwaben sind schon ein komisches Völkchen.

Stuttgart is the capital city of arguably Germany’s most pro-American and economically strongest state or “Länder,” Baden-Wuerttemberg.  But even Baden-Wuerttemberg, home of Porsche, Daimler, SAP AG and European Command, recognizes a higher power, a strengthening political and economic capital.  No, not Berlin…but Brussels, nicknamed the “Capital of Europe.”

Last week, I spent two days in Brussels attending two European Union conferences “EU Smart Power” and “Energy Security” and got the chance to visit with my counterparts at the EU Military Staff. 

Baden-Wuerttemberg , home of the business-savvy Swabians, attaches such importance to the political and economic might of the EU in Brussels, that they even have their own “embassy” there, representing their “Länder” interests to the EU(and not trusting just Berlin to do so). I know this because sitting next to me among the 300 participants at the “EU Smart Power” conference was a representative from the Baden-Wuerttemberg mission to the EU.

This was an important week in the EU’s development as a world power, as the leaders of the 27 member states met the day after our conference to select the first EU President and EU Foreign Minister. 

So, why is this important to us at EUCOM?  Like Baden-Wuerttemberg, we may not want to leave dealing with the EU exclusively to Washington, D.C.  We may want to more “smartly” engage with and understand the EU via our mission there.

After all, the EU consists of 27 of the 51 nations of the EUCOM area of responsibility, our key allies and partners, along with 23 of the 27 nations also being NATO members.  These are the same nations that we are engaging with through our Theater Security Cooperation and Building Partner Capacity efforts.  We encourage their support to the International Security Assistance Force, better known as ISAF, through a whole of government approach. 

Much as EUCOM has endeavored over the years to better understand the NATO Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe staff with periodic exchanges, I recommend that it is now also appropriate to outreach to the Brussels through the U.S. mission to the EU.

Because the EU is an economic smart power and interagency giant while still a military midget despite 10 years of European Security and Defense Policy, I think this outreach should be interagency-focused. The Interagency Partnering Directorate here at EUCOM has a mandate from our commander, Admiral Jim Stavridis to partner with International Organizations and I believe our directorate should initiate this partnering.

We should begin by meeting with U.S. Team Brussels. This team consists of players well known to EUCOM, but it also comprises an entity that we should endeavor to know better, the U.S. Mission to the EU.  This “embassy” will receive a new Ambassador before the end of the year.  Once the Ambassador is in place, leading the interagency-strong country team, we should meet.  I’m thinking of a visit by Admiral Stavridis with select members of his staff and key interagency representatives traveling to Brussels in early 2010 timeframe. 

This would be a chance for “Team USA in Europe,” comprised of the EUCOM staff; U.S. Missions to EU and NATO and the Joint Chiefs of Staff representative to NATO; to gather, to listen to each other and to coordinate a Whole of Government Approach.  This would include interagency partners at EUCOM (USAID, Department of State, Immigration and Customs Enforcement); partners at EU (Department of Homeland Security, Drug Enforcement Agency, ICE, USAID) as well as the NATO partners (FEMA, DOS).

Just as this past week has been an historic one for the EU, it should also be a motivational time for EUCOM to recognize the growing clout of the EU and to outreach to it, engage it, and understand it via ‘U.S. Team Brussels.’  Talk about “smart power!”

Erstes Treffen des “DSF”

Angemeldet hatten sich ja schon recht Viele, aber abzüglich Derer, die dann doch verhindert sein würden, kämen wir dann vielleicht auf eine Teilnehmerzahl um die 20 Personen-dachten wir.
Falsch gedacht und weit gefehlt; denn als wir beim Kirchturmleuten um punkt 19 Uhr am Veranstaltungsort vorbei fuhren um einen Parkplatz zusuchen, drängten sich dort schon ca. 20 Personen um die Eingangstür. Nachdem ich dann auch das Lokal betrat, eröffnete mir die Wirtin, dass es Probleme mit der Essensversorgung gibt.
Da unser Treffen an dem Ruhetag des Lokals stattfand, war eine verkleinerte Speisekarte abgesprochen. Die Wirtin hatte für diesen Tag eine Aushilfskraft gebucht, die aber kurzfristig absagte. Stattdessen wurde eine ungeübte Servicekraft herbei zitiert. Dieses hatte zur Folge dass die Wirtin die Küche komplett alleine bedienen musste und für die Essensversorgung ein Plan B erstellt wurde. Das bedeute, es gab nur ein Gericht nämlich Putengeschnetzeltes für Alle und ein reichhaltiges Salatbüfett. Nach dem Motto “all you can eat” bzw. bis alles leer ist. Ich denke mal, ich kann hier ruhig unterstellen, dass alle satt geworden sind. Zumal Einige sich um Mitternacht noch des Buffetts bedienen konnten. Durch den Plan B verschob sich leider der Anfang der eigentlichen aktiven Zeit um eine Stunde.
So dass um 21 Uhr das große Tischerücken begann.
Zu diesem Zeitpunkt, waren dann auch alle Teilnehmer eingetroffen und es waren sage und schreibe 40 an der Zahl incl. eines Hundes . Natürlich stieg auch bei der Wirtin und Ihrer Aushilfe die Spannung, auf das was da nun noch weiter geschehen wird.
Ganz nebenbei fragte sie mich “Was geschieht nun”?
Worauf ich antwortete: “Jetzt fesseln wir uns”
Meine Auskunft nahm sie für eine ältere Dame südländischer Herkunft doch recht gelassen auf. Ich merkte dass wir den Rücken frei haben für das was wir vorhatten.
Nachdem Einige mit dem Fesseln begonnen haben zeigte sie sogar Interesse, blieb hier und dort stehen und brachte ihre Bewunderung für die Schönheit der Fesselungen zum Ausdruck.
Nachdem es mit 39 Teilnehmern doch recht voll und eng wurde, blieb natürlich der eine oder andere kleine Unfall nicht aus. So wurde z.B. eine helle Jacke von der Aushilfe in ein stylisches Colabraun gefärbt; allerdings konterten wir recht schnell und warfe dafür ein Tischchen mit einem Blumentopf um.

Da es ja Wochentag war begannen gegen 22:30 Uhr die ersten Teilnehmer uns zu verlassen. Natürlich gab es auch bei uns den sogenannten “Harten Kern” der bis Mitternacht durchhielt und wohl nur aus Mitleid mit der Wirtin das Feld räumte.

Resümierend können wir wohl sagen, dass wir trotz der zu erwartenden Unwägbarkeiten einen schönen Abend verbracht haben und das Baby gut auf den Weg gebracht haben.

Das “Literarische Wohnzimmer” bzw. “Junge AutorInnen” Projekt

 des Kulturzentrum Merlin Stuttgart  in Zusammenarbeit mit dem maringo Verlags , der Stadt Stuttgart und der Stadtbibliothek Heilbronn hat sich das Ziel gesetzt,  regelmäßig  junge AutorInnen aus allen deutschsprachigen Ländern nach Stuttgart zu besonderen Lesungen nach Stuttgart und Heilbronn einzuladen.

Entwickelt wurde die Idee des ”Literarischen Wohnzimmers” zusammen mit dem Kulturverein des Merlin e.V.

Junge Literatur, junge Autorinnen und Autoren, mit einer am Alltag orientierten Sprache und dem Lebensgefühl einer gesellschaftlichen Gruppe, die zwischen Adoleszenz und Familiengründung steht, sind zu Gast im neuen Literarischen Wohnzimmer im Merlin. Zwischen Couchtisch, Stehlampe und Poptapete werden die Gäste im Gespräch vorgestellt und lesen aus ihren Werken. Die Wohnzimmerband „Kehrwoche“ sorgt für den musikalischen Rahmen. Gastgeber und Moderator des Abends ist Ingo Klopfer (get Shorties Lesebühne und maringo-Verlag).

Das Projket “Junge AutorInnen” ist ein Folgekonzept in Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadtbibliothek Heilbronn auch hier soll eine Lesung  in gemütlicher Atmosphäre entstehen. Eine literarisch unterhaltsame Veranstaltung mit Gesprächen und Leseblöcken, moderiert von Ingo Klopfer.

Das Konzept sieht vor, möglichst zwei AutorInnen als Gäste, so dass abwechslung und Vielfalt garantiert sind. Die Veranstaltungen finden dann an zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Tagen statt. Jeden zweiten Monat (seit März 2009) am letzten Sonntag in Stuttgart und am darauf folgenden Montag in Heilbronn.

This week’s Champions League games will go a long way in deciding the final spots in the knockout stage.  Liverpool need a miracle, namely they need to beat Debrecen and they need some Lyon (who’s already in) to beat Fiorentina.  If Fiorentina wins or draws either of their final two games, Liverpool is out.  The Reds will be without Fernando Torres, who’s still battling a groin injury.  Fellow striker Ryan Babel also picked up an injury in the draw with Manchester City this weekend. Defending champion Barcelona finds themselves in a similar boat.  They need to beat Inter Milan at home to keep their chances at advancing alive.  Barca will likely be without Lionel Messi due to injury.  Several players are also ill with the H1N1 virus.

Hoje o post é sobre um lugar de “paz”.

Outro dia resolvi caminhar por ai e onde vou parar? Num cemitério!

Eu já disse aqui que tenho pânico de cemitério, mas como o troço ‘parou’ no meu caminho, dei uma de ‘macho’ rsrs e resolvi entrar, e ainda fotografar! Que vcs conferem no decorrer do post.

O nome do dito é Hoppenlaufriedhof, e é o mais antigo cemitério de Stuttgart, localizado no centro próximo da universidade, na verdade do lado. Quem almoça no RU pode ver o cemitério. E muitos alunos vão sentar la no cemitério (tem uns bancos lá) pra fazer lanche ou pausa. (Será que não tem lugar melhor?)
Foi fundado em 1626 e funcionou até aprox. 1880. Tem uma parte lá (pequena) dedicada só a judeus (este tem como ultimo enterro 1882). As três fotos abaixo são da parte judia, o resto não.

Dai lá por 1961 resolveram fazer do cemitério (que esta em guias turisticos daqui) um parque… pois é… lá é até bonitinho… com muitas árvores, ruazinhas, banquinhos…e claro os túmulos datados lá de 1600-1880. Mas pela primeira vez na vida eu não tive medo, tanto que voltei lá de novo sozinha (a primeira vez minha colega de aula tava junto) pra fazer outras fotos. O lugar é bonito, pois os tumulos parecem pedras de enfeites, ou sei lá…claro tem cruzes e tal (menos na parte judia óbvio), mas não parece bem um cemitério, desses cheios q me assustam hahaha.

Mas claro que não é por isso que vou sair por ai passeando em cemitérios e tirando foto, esse foi o único… ah não já fui no Cemitério da Recoleta em Buenos Aires e tirei um monte de fotos também, mas depois me custaram noites mal dormidas… mas isso é outra história, aquele cemitério é diferente hahaha. Enfim, não me convidem e evitem ir comigo em lugares assim, é fiasco certo! E se passarem por um, e eu estiver junto e não ver o cemitério, não me avisem!!!

E fora aquele ar de mistério, tudo antigo lá, outono, árvores secando, muitas folhas no chão, silêncio, um ventinho sinistro, e muitos mas muitos esquilos velozes por lá rsrs.
Li tambem que muitas urnas estão vazias pois trocaram pra outro cemitério, o que me ajudou a ter coragem de voltar lá hahaha.

Esse cemitério é entre a universidade de Stuttgart (campus centro) e a Liederhalle (lugar de músico), então torna-se meio que caminho. O tempo inteiro tem gente cruzando o lugar pra ir de um lugar pra outro, é praticamente uma “rua comum” rsrs. Tirei foto dessa turminha ai atalhando com as professoras.

Aqui da pra ler mais (site) e até saber os famosinhos da epoca que “moram” lá.

ps: pra variar falei nisso, agora to eu meio com medinho …odeio essa sensação, mas pra n dizer q é besteira minha tentei ir lá sozinha e fui hahaha.

ps2: pena que não tinha neblina e tempo feio, só tinha ventão sinistro… assim as fotos ficariam mais assustadoras hahaha e eu provavelmente mais cagada, tá! Foi bom assim hahaha

Can Torres Lift Liverpool To Victory?

We are ever nearing the end of the round robin phase of this year’s Champions League, and with the 5th matchday on the horizon, the story has yet to be fully written.

In Group E top dogs Lyon will face off against similarly high flying Fiorentina in a battle for top of the heap, while struggling Liverpool will take on Debrecen from Hungary, a team that has secured zero points to date in round robin play. Predictions: Lyon to dump Fiorentina. Liverpool to win… even they cant screw this one up.

The closest of all of the groups, Group F’s teams are separated by no more than two points from top to bottom. This week will see European champion Barcelona face off against Italian champion Inter Milan, in a match that may once again pit the teams traded strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Samuel Eto’o against each other. Dynamo Kiev will play a Rubin Kazan team that has surprised everybody except for the small but mighty Russian squad themselves. Predictions: Inter and Barca to tie. Rubin Kazan to win.

Sevilla has already qualified for the next round of play, though all three other teams have a mathematical chance of joining their Spanish counterpart as the second spot in Group G is up for the taking. Unirea Urziceni will have it toughest as they will go against a top Sevilla team, though due to qualification may have the best draw as they will unlikely face the full fury of the Spanish side. Stuttgart an Rangers will face off in what is sure to be a fierce battle and an excellent match, as both teams will need wins to give them a chance to make it to the Round of 16. Predictions Sevilla and Stuttgart to win.

In Group H it’s not quite all said and done, Arsenal requires one point to ensure qualification into the next round. That being said, they will be facing a Standard Liege team who got out to a quick start in their last meeting (though ultimately in a loosing cause) and who will be looking to capitalize early again in their desperate search for points. Olympiacos, on 6 points will face an AZ Alkmaar team that is looking nothing like the side that took the Dutch Eredivisie by storm last season. Alkmaar is in poor shape with only 2 points but still harbours a slight chance of moving forward in the competition. Prediction: Arsenal and AZ Alkmaar to win.

Rubin Kazan : Dynamo Kiew (18.30 Uhr)
Klima dürfte diesmal kein Heimvorteil für den russischen Meister sein, der unter der Woche mit Finanzproblemen von sich reden machte. Auch der Vorteil des Underdogs fällt für Kazan weg. Dennoch sind die Russen stark. Kiew kann aber dagegen halten. Ein unattraktives Spiel zur Einstimmung auf den Gruppenkracher. Denn dank der Zeitverschiebung wissen die Kontrahenten im Camp Nou über den Ausgang der Partie schon im Vorfeld bescheid.

FC Barcelona : Inter Mailand (20.45 Uhr)
Barca steht mit dem Rücken zur Wand. Die Katalanen brauchen mindestens vier Punkte aus den letzten beiden Spielen gegen Inter und in Kiew. Wichtig wäre ein Heimsieg gegen den italienischen Meister, damit im ungemütlichen Kiew ein Unentschieden reicht. In der Champions League läuft es für die Blaugrana noch nicht rund. Aber Mourinhos Inter ist keineswegs ein unschlagbarer Gegner. Doch da den Italienern ein Punkt reicht, um die Qualifikation für das Achtelfinale  im Heimspiel gegen Kazan fest zu machen, wird es eine Abwehrschlacht im Camp Nou. Das Spiel dürfte maßgeblich vom vorherigen Ergebnis aus Kazan beeinflusst werden.

Gruppe E:
Debrecen VSC : FC Liverpool
Liverpool steht schon vor dem Jahreswechsel vor den Trümmern der Saison. In der Liga glauben wohl nur die hartgesottensten Kopites an das Ende der 19-jährigen Durststrecke ohne Meisterschaft. Mit Steve Gerrard geht es zum ungarischen Meister, Fernando Torres fällt jedoch mit einer Adduktoren-Verletzung aus. Dennoch: Pflichtsieg für die Reds, die zwar in katastrophaler Form sind. Debrecen aber hat noch keinen Punkt in dieser Champions League Saison geholt.

AC Florenz : Olympique Lyon
Auf der Insel wird man auch nach Italien schauen. Gewinnt die Fiorentina ihr Heimspiel, war es das für Liverpool. Lyon ist bereits qualifiziert und muss dennoch mindestens punkten. Das ist sicherlich denkbar, doch in der Praxis könnten die Franzosen die letzten fünf Prozent Einsatz vermissen lassen. Vielleicht scheidet also mal wieder ein englisches Team in der Vorrunde aus.

Gruppe G:
Glasgow Rangers : VfB Stuttgart
Die Rangers sind noch desolater als der VfB, doch die Hoffnung für Stuttgart ist gering. Das Tief in dem die Schwaben stecken ist zu groß, als das man auf eine Leistungsexplosion hoffen könnte. Dabei wäre es so leicht weiterzukommen. Ein Sieg in Glasgow, ein Sieg gegen Urziceni und schon stünde der Meister von 2007 im Achtelfinale. Der Geist ist willig, das Fleisch jedoch schwach.

Unirea Urziceni : FC Sevilla
Sevila ist schon qualifiziert, die Reise nach Rumänien für die Südeuropäer unangenehm. Das typische Champions League Vorrundenspiel, wo der Favorit aus katastrophalem osteuropäischen Rasen müde agiert und der Außenseiter wacker kämpft.

Gruppe H:
AZ Alkmaar : Olympiakos Piräus
Ein Spiel zum Abgewöhnen. Die Griechen können mit einem Sieg bei den schwachen Holländern den Einzug in das Achtelfinale klarmachen. Ein starker Erfolg in einer schwachen Gruppe.

Arsenal London : Standard Lüttich
Die Gunners sind in starker Form, ein Punkt reicht zur Qualifikation fürs Achtelfinale. Keine Zweifel für die Wenger-Elf, die auch in der Liga in überragender Form ist.
