Game of Love - Spring 2013 Look Book

The inspiration for our second look book came from a desire to combine both the romantic and industrial tones of the collection. With Valentine’s Day approaching, we wanted to show Found’s sentimental element, yet put an edgier spin on it. Deciding to steer away from a wedding look, we settled on a game night for our theme. Using the loft of the Found warehouse space as our backdrop, we used an abundance of candles and a few softer pieces to bring out the romantic tones. I just love how the varying textures of wood and metal create a unique setting to display the collection. My Endless Love: Awards Season Glamour.

It’s been a dull, rainy day here, and I’ve had lots of pattern cutting to do, which has given me plenty of time to watch the Oscars. I have to tell you though, don’t remember too many of the lucky winners because, as usual, I was too busy looking at all the pretty dresses.

I love awards season fashion. I love seeing the gents all suited up because, let’s face it, nothing is as sexy as a man in a suit. Nothing. But the ladies are why I watch. Seeing gorgeous women swanning along the Red Carpet looking like princesses always excites me. I love seeing what they decided was ‘it’ this year, and watching my favourites get it just right.

I don’t love the cattiness of ‘worst dressed lists’ and snide comments about who ‘got it wrong’. Celebrities may choose to be famous, but nobody chooses, or deserves, to be attacked simply because their idea of style is different to someone else’s…unless you think Mullet perms are ok. So I’m not going to share any of the train wrecks with you. Instead, here’s my top three Oscars looks for 2013:

Naomi Watts looked stunning (as usual) in this Giorgio Armani Prive gown. I love the slightly Art Deco-ness of it…and the copious amounts of sparkles.

Jessica Chastain was a walking Oscars statuette. Another Armani Prive frock, this little number was classic glamour, and looked stunning with her red lips and gorgeous titian curls.

Proving waifish white girls aren’t the only ones who can shine in a gown, Octavia Spencer looked every bit the princess in her custom Tadashi Shoji. I love it.

And remember how I was saying kindness is stylish? Well, so is chivalry. I cheered a little when Hugh Jackman came to Jennifer Lawrence’s rescue after she tripped on the stairs.

Can the man be any more divine?

I know a few people planning weddings right now, and they all seem to characterize their wedding-planning experience as “stressful,” which makes me a bit sad. While I won’t say my wedding planning was without a moment of stress, I would say overall it was “fun” – much more fun than stressful.

Fashion Friday: Of Ruffles and Re-imaginings.

I’ve decided Friday needed a new look, so I’ve overhauled it a bit. I’ll still be posting regular run-downs on my favourite fashion stores, but I also want to discuss other fun fashion bits and pieces.

So, henceforth, Friday will be dubbed Fashion Friday. Simple, but to the point (and a hella lot easier than the whole Dress Me Up…saga).

Tonight, a fashion frustration for you.

This was one of the first ever things I pinned, many moons ago when I first started using Pinterest:

I’ve always meant to search for a full image of this dress, but just never seemed to get around to it. Tonight I did. Bitter disappointment:

With all the love I have for the skirt of this dress, the top was like an arrow to my heart. I had imagined the ruffles to continue up the skirt before petering out at a sweetheart bodice. This top is not at all what I had expected.

But hey, it’s Dior. He probably knows fashion better than me, right?

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovers! I was lucky enough (and very honoured) to be asked to guest post on One Good Thing yesterday, as part of Wabi’s week-long tribute to love. I talked about love, and felt the love come right back at me. It was awesome.

Truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of V-Day. In or out of a relationship, to me, it feels like a staged display of affection. Working yesterday evening, my feelings were only compounded—a bunch of people getting in early with their V-Day flowers, and all but one claiming, “if I don’t get her/him something, I’ll be in trouble”. Why, because you chose not to follow the trend? Isn’t that a bit sad?

Personally, I’d much rather receive flowers (or chocolates, or jewellery, or shoes), because my man happened to be thinking about me, not because the whole world has dictated that if he’s doesn’t get me something he doesn’t love me. But hey, that’s just me.

In saying that, I do love love. So today’s thematic is ultimately dedicated to all things love. Like these kitties, who prove that it doesn’t matter if you’re black or white:

Eeeek! So thrilled to say that my wedding gown has finally come in! I got a call last week that my dress is HERE! And I have my first scheduled fitting for this weekend! I probably should have been eating healthier and working out more but maybe this will be just the inspiration I need. I cannot wait to see it! Since I cannot post photos of my beautiful gown on here (yet), I decided to post some inspiration for “The Day-Of” details. We lost power for a few hours last night, right around the time I was sitting down to write my post. I meant to get back to it—I swear—but my bed looked so comfy, and my battery was already flat, and…I was too lazy to be bothered.

If you are not a Pintrest member, sign up to receive an invite and while you are waiting for your invitation, start looking at blogs such as:

Again, one of the best places to collect your ideas is Pintrest. In addition, you still want to ensure that you are organized. If you like to write, you may think about getting a wedding binder. If you are more digital, then you may want to check out apps such as Wedding 911 by The Knot, Wedding Budget or Brides Genius 2.0

I share a lot of things I love with all of you. In fact, this blog is pretty much dedicated to things I love. Tonight’s not too different—I’m still talking about something I love—but it’s also something that talks about someone else’s loves.

Ah Yes...Planning A Wedding...

Every wedding photographer knows that when that big day rolls around…you’re guna get a little nervous. Even the very best of us have admitted so. I think a lot of us thrive on that feeling. That nervous excitement that never really settles until you’re finally sitting in front of a vendor meal. Despite any stressful situations, hectic moments, or crazy guests…there’s one huge difference between those of us that shoot weddings and those of us who are planning our own weddings: planning your own wedding starts the day after your engaged and doesn’t end until you’ve sent out every “thank you” card.

I recently got engaged, as you all know. And knowing that I’m going to have a busy year ahead of me, I’ve been trying to get as much done as possible. It’s so much easier said than done. I can’t believe how many little details there are to planning wedding!! Location, start time, flowers, outfits, shoes, jewelry, food, guest list (OOHHH the guest list), linens, drinks, and all the little details in between. And that small list of To Do’s is merely the beginning.

I would so much rather be shooting my wedding than planning it. I guess that’s why I’m a photographer and not a coordinator/planner. That being said I feel I’ve don’t pretty well so far. I hired a cake artist, bought a wedding gown (YAYY!!), chose a florist, secured the venue, chose a menu, made a wedding website, and designed the save the date’s and invites. Oh! And got a photographer. BUT there’s stilllll sssoooooo muccchhhhh lefffttt to dooooooo.

I’ve been getting my inspiration from various sources such as Style Me Pretty, Wedding Chicks, and wedding magazines (I love Pacific Weddings Magazine…sooo much pretty!!) This one stylized shoot is what got my inspiration station going. Jose Villa shot it (he’s one of my faves!) so it’s obviously drool worthy. Here’s one of the images:

I’m trying to not give away too many specifics cause I want our guests to be surprised Hopefully things will start to come together sooner or later. I can’t believe it’s only 9 months away!! WOOHOO!!! This year is either going to fly by and I’m going to be all, “Whoooaaaa November 1!” Orrrr this year will crawwwlll by and I’ll be more like, “Commmeee onnnn November 1…” Either way I’m getting married, so let the countdown begin.
