We are looking at two of the most dominating alpha males in the music industry.Both very successful in their music careers and both are amazing dancers. It’s hard to even compare these two, they are similar in so many ways but yet so different.

Some people say Usher has seen better days and that Chris Brown is not only his successor but is better.Most music lovers born in the  80’s  would remember how Usher himself took the world by storm with his hit debut song “You make me wanna” displaying his slick dance moves.

Chris Brown has a greater spectrum of energetic dance moves which seems to attract they eyes of the much younger generation. Usher has grown quite a bit and exuberates a gentlemen like swagger. 

Oh Hell!!….you guys decide Neyo and JT on the list t00.

Plaid has been all over the fashion pages this season….

And…I’ve really not seen it done any better than our wonderful friends, 3JWorkshop and For love & Liberty.

No matter what the trend…they add a twisted classic vibe that is so irresistable.    Here is a favorite in this gray-black plaid blazer with their notorious embroidery that distinguishes them from the rest.

I would so put this piece with a great little black dress….a ruffled top and jeans….or layered with one of the new infinity scarves and jeans.

For casual attitude …pair with a great tee and some of the new oxidized and black metal jewelry.

This pad inspires me to get my degree and start my daily grind to succeed. Just the thought of having a place like this to come home to  is like a dream come true. Some people are given wealth but most people  earn it. The intent of this design was to create a party suite with a modern, airy, Miami feel.Laid-out like a party lounge, a solid-surface DJ table in “Milk Glass” foregrounds the second most noticeable feature: a wall of turntables and jam boxes framed in LED-lit alcoves. The primary challenge was a demanding timeline, having been hired late in the construction process.

Without a doubt, the best clothing store in the country that defines the best bang for your buck idea is the GAP.  No other retailer rivals the GAP in its products quality, style, and price.  Every time I am in a GAP store, I am tempted to buy something.  Not because I necessarily need anything, but because the temptation of a tight product at such a low price is hard to find.  Particularly, the GAP has awesome T-shirts, V-neck sweaters, and their new denim is great – but there is a lot more.

GAP was struggling some years ago, but they brought this new creative director in from Ralph Lauren or somewhere (I can’t really remember), but either way, he has done a great job and GAP’s success has shown his ability. 

If you want to be thrifty on your clothing, yet still care how you look, concentrate on purchasing  much of your casual clothes from the Gap.  A majority of their product is great stuff.

Is it just me, or should Carol Hannah have won Project Runway? Please, don’t get me wrong. I completely understand and appreciate Irana’s collection & the strong female persona behind it. While the character that inspired her look is not unique; her use of pleating and approach with other details certainly was. However, some of the looks felt way more like costumes (especially when paired with those felt helmets).  I don’t think the over all offering appeals to as many women as it could How many of those pieces would sell to people whose job doesn’t involve tabloids.

Carol Hannah’s collection on the other hand, had me at ‘hello’. Her first look was amazing. I could see a version of that dress at any length and in many colors. It had so much personality. And as impressed as I was by her first look, the rest of her show did not disappoint. The judges said she lost points because her collection “lacked a connective thread”. I disagree. I think the connective element is the fashionable  real women who would buy and wear those pieces.

One thing is for sure, this season was full of promising talent. I also liked the surprise of a “thirteenth look” request for the final three contestants.  Maybe lifetime has a little fashion bug up their sleeve after all.

What a great way to start off the holiday season. I am forever on the “Not a VIP” list that I was unable to get tickets to the local fashion show to raise money for the City of Gloucester (born and raised baby).  Our local, and super amazing vintage consignment shop, Banana’s, threw an amazing show this past weekend. The dress was “creative black tie” and how fab is everyone!  I heard the show was great.  Next year!

It’s so difficult to explain my love/hate relationship with the house of Chanel. I mean, there’s no denying it: mad props for the likes of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, who singlehandedly created a legacy for herself based on her self-taught designs and absolute drive for perfection. (My god, her designs were beautiful and classy.) And ever since then, her staple tweed jackets and suits have been twisted and turned for a variety of outfits, looks, and fashions. Chanel, as beautiful and wonderful and glamorous as y’are darlin’, sometimes I just have to wonder what the heck was Karl Lagerfeld thinking? I try to go into reviews as unbiased as I can, but with a name like Chanel, the standards are high and it’s rather easy to fall short sometimes. For this Spring collection, I get the vibe that Lagerfeld was channeling the 60’s.  Don’t get me wrong, some outfits I absolutely adore and would die for; but some, well some are just… not working to me.  (Note: the backdrop that the farmhouse setting gives is just marvelous. So much so, that some of the designs are rather drowned out, as opposed to emphasized like I think they meant it to be.) Below are a few favorites and few not-favorites. What do you beautifuls think?

Collette Dinnigan;

Starting off dark, then becoming light before closing with dark, Collete Dinnigan’s Spring collection is a thing to behold! It gives one a sense of optimism, the feeling that dark times will always pass. Not only are the sheer fabrics free and flowing, the outfits look rather comfortable. I think I need to find myself a pair of those sheer black tights.  The only no-no? The clearly visible boobies under the sheer fabrics; the effect is rather crude and detracts from the overall design.

So to end this rather lengthy blog (I apologize profusely) on Karl Lagerfeld and Collette Dinnigan, I tip my hat off to you my good people, for a noticeable Spring 2010 collection!

So the American Music Awards hit the air last night and everyone is still buzzing about it.

Adam Lambert’s performance? Just… wow.

But would people have been so shocked if a raunchy female performer – say a Janet or even a Rihanna, did the same thing? Food for thought, eh?

Speaking of Rihanna, her performance outfit was… pretty risque. We’re getting to expect that from Ri-ri, so really the question should be – where does this rank among her more out-there outfits?

Her red carpet outfit – a black and white Marchesa from their spring 2010 line and her red-eyed makeup was pushing the fashion envelope too, which is to be expected. Not sure if we like it as much as her triumphant Glamour awards couture dress but we appreciate the effort.

Islandista Alicia Keys kept it sparkly and sexy in a blue patterned mini from Giorgio Armani’s spring 2010 line. Our only quibble – Alicia got some big, old volleyball/hockey player girl legs! We observed this from as far back as last year’s BET awards and Alicia just seems to be getting thicker and thicker so maybe a short dress with a split might not have been the best choice – she juuussst about gets away with it.

J. Lo looked hot outfit wise both on the red carpet and after her… dramatic (poor t’ing) performance.

We especially loved her feather-skirted dress but what was up with her wet, dragged back hair? It looked like she came out the shower with it – not very award show worthy.

And Leona Lewis is sticking with queen of punk Vivienne Westwood and her black pleather creations for the foreseeable future, debuting a short version of the dress that wowed us a while back. I think we can let it rest now Le-le…

As our weather only now begins to dip into below zero temperatures, it gets me thinking about cute leisure outfits on a lazy Sunday afternoon.  Canadians kill it when it comes to warmwear, especially when dressing for snowy weather. What can I say?  We’re on our A game always. 

Underneath that down parka and tightly wrapped scarf is a casually chic outfit, layered with luxurious texture. And on our tooties, the best indoor/outdoor footwear for climbing snowbanks and dancing our living rooms on a bearskin rug. *haha*  During this time leading up to the holidays, it’s always fun to have friends over for a warm mug of spicy apple cider, decorate sugar cookies and listen to Wham’s “Last Christmas” (I gave you my heart and the very next day, you gave it away.  This year to save me from tears, I’ll give it to someone special…) on repeat.

Here are my current slipper obsessions for Winter Leisure/Chalet Chic Fashion.  Oh yes, there is such a thing!

• Cable knit leggings or slipper socks – ‘Tis very Ralph Lauren meets Whistler ski bunny.  My sister and I had a ten minute discussion on cable knit leggings.  How sweet are these in pale pink or a winter white?  I also adore the giant wool, cable knit slipper socks with pom-poms.  Slap a pom-pom on anything and it’s ‘Adorable!’

• Mukluk moccasins – On the 3rd floor of the Bata Shoe Museum, there is an exhibit devoted entirely to Native Indian footwear.  The plethora of styles can be seen on stylish feet all across this fair city – from fringed lace up booties, to fur trimmed suede and beaded Minnetonkas and Mongolian hair space boots.  Wild I say. Wild.

Mukluk Moccasins: Loving the turquoise embroidery and fur balls. Makes me want to catch my dinner.

• Fair Isle – You know grandma’s home made sweaters and socks you receive as stocking stuffers?  Fun fact:  This is the Fair Isle print which is named after the island in Northern Scotland where the knit pattern originated.  The print has taken on new and exciting colour combinations which will ignite any slipper fetish.

And because I couldn’t help myself, a final slipper to keep you warm at night and make you dream of sherpa and log-burning fireplaces.  Makes you want to book a week at the chalet, doesn’t it?

Mischief, mischief, mischief!

What mischief have I, or should I say we, been up to? Well venturing into yet another aspect of this, our Second Lives(tm)! This time, under the banner of “T&T Designs and Consulting (2009) (c)”, husband and wife team Takeshi and Tempest Kiama have added their experience in SL’s fashion industry, and their RL artistic ability, and brought about the first line of their ‘body business’.

Gentlemen! This one’s for you!

Owners Tempest Hennesy and Takeshi Kiama have had a, combined, experience of six plus years in the Second Life(tm) fashion industry.  Combined with their real world artistic abilities, and the invaluable advice of Ohren Beck of I.N.X.X., each shape has been painstakingly created to be proportionally balanced and  as realistic as SL will allow.

With the philosophy that, compared to the standard building, Second Life metrics are a bit off, these shapes may appear exceedingly tall but when, for example, compared to the door frame of the average prefab home, they are perfectly ‘normal’.

The older I get, the more my taste in jewellery is changing.

Once upon a time, I used to go for the flashy, in-your-face designs – you know, the ones that you could see from 100 metres down the street.  The bigger and bolder, the better!

Now ( as I approach my ’40’s *gasp* ;P ) my jewellery has become much more understated. 

Simplicity is key.  Less is more.

I still love the unusual – you just have to look at my Urban Chic and Copper Bangles – to see that.  Simple doesn’t have to be boring. 

So, what does your jewellery style say about you?

2009 marks the first Christmas period where I have not worked in retail.  Although I am mostly grateful for this (since Christmas is a stressful time of year to be serving behind the counter, or generally to be doing anything), it did mean that I wasn’t really bombarded with the Christmas decorations and music that usually go up in stores in October, and therefore was not reminded to start organising my gifts and purchases until about last week, when I thought “Shit, it’s mid-November and I have not bought ANY presents.” In the last week or so I’ve started redressing that balance, and I’m starting to get a move on with it.  I have the added motivation of Gucci earrings.

Don’t be fooled by this fairly crude picture – the earrings are delicate and beautiful, just the right balance of style and elegance, neither masculine nor feminine.  Just… lovely.  A wonderful upgrade from my Armani Earrings (and who knows, maybe it’ll inspire a sequel song on my next album!).  However, this wonderful upgrade costs £240 (they are white gold and Gucci… and it will raise my fashion game) so I have therefore made a pact with myself that I will not buy them until my Christmas shopping is done.  There are a couple of reasons for this.

1. It’s kinda selfish to just keep buying things for myself when tis the season to give.  I love buying presents for other people, and I don’t feel guilty spending money on other people!
2. If I spend £240 on earrings, then it is possible (knowing myself) that I might physically run out of money before I manage to get everyone’s presents.  Which again, is kinda selfish when I could easily wait for the earrings a little bit longer.  It’s not like I don’t have anything satisfactory to wear in my ears for the time being!

So I am sticking to my pact. I also have the added incentive of getting my Christmas shopping done before December the 11th, because that is the date of our Christmas party for uni, and I would quite like to wear my new earrings to this Christmas party. Because then I will feel extra-special.

Anyways, this post isn’t meant to be about my Gucci earrings.  It is about Christmas shopping, and the fact that it feels almost strange for me not to be working in retail during this period, since it’s something I’ve done for the past 8 years.  I don’t miss the incessant Christmas music in shops, and I don’t miss the cranky customers nor the constant target-monitoring.  However, I enjoy the busy feeling going into the shops, and the excitement of everyone buying gifts for people they love – whether people get cranky about it at the till or not, I like the idea that everyone is trying to please someone else.  I don’t give to receive – I give to hopefully make people happy at Christmas with a gift that shows how much I appreciate them, and also that I have considered their personality and found them something appropriate.  In that sense, I am more a subscriber to the commercial meaning of Christmas than the religious meaning of Christmas (as long as it’s done with love and friendship as the primary agenda, rather than showboating, there’s nothing wrong IMO with buying someone a gift to show your appreciation of them).
