I woke up today knowing that the world would be white with snow and I was dreading it because winter + me = sad.

But when I got in my car and turned on my music the song Islands on the Coast by Band of Horses came on and that song is so darn happy that suddenly I was struck with the beauty of the world around me. The sun glinted off of the snow making everything glitter and the sky was a perfect blue after a bout of gray, gloomy days. Any song could have come on and my mood could have been totally different, but because Islands on the Coast is so exultant it made me look at my wintry world with excitement. Life is made up of small miracles and this was one of them. Here’s a link to the song. If you’ve never listened to Band of Horses you are in for something amazing.

So my mom complained that all my outfits are too young and trendy and she wanted me to make an outfit for her so here it is. I would definitely tie the sweater so you take full advantage of the folds. Also I love the idea that this skirt is a shaping skirt. Shaping tights don’t seem very effective a lot of the time but a skirt seems like it would be better. The outfit is more expensive then I would like but my mom can afford it so I wasn’t too strict with the price point of these items. Love you, Momma!

Thanksgiving is a time when we’re supposed to think about the things in our life that we’re thankful for but this is something that I try to do on a regular basis because I find that it helps to stave off my crazy. As a result of this frequent pondering of just how blessed my life is, my list of things I’m grateful for is extremely long. So for this post I’m just going to give you the highlights.

I’m grateful for my toothbrush, my pillow, my bed, pandora.com, my house and my car. I’m grateful for unexpected kindness, for friendly people, for the way the internet brings the people and things that I love together, for the fact that snow always melts and for the jolt of joy that a new pair of shoes always gives. I’m grateful for books and movies and tv shows that sweep me up and take me out of myself for awhile. I’m grateful for my country, my faith, and my education. And most especially, I’m grateful for my family. I’m grateful for them for a million reasons but here are just a few: I’m grateful for my family because they truly offer unconditional love, because we get each others sense of humor and laugh until our bodies hurt, because they would do anything for me and I would do anything for them, and because I know that no matter how bad things get I will always have them in my life.

Another thing I’m grateful for is the fact that tights have made a comeback, so here is an outfit with a beautiful pair of tights from Urban Outfitters. Also, I’ve been thinking a lot about layering skirts. Unfortunately the trend right now is for skirts and dresses to be crazy short and since that is neither pleasing to me aesthetically or in accordance with the doctrine of my religion I’ve come to the conclusion that layering skirts of different lengths would be a fantastic way of staying current and modest. Because I don’t have the time or money to make a whole array of layering skirts (like layering tees with cool trims and in different colors) I will just fantasize about it here on my blog. We are Getting ready for Christmas.. anxiety inducing as always! So much planning goes into one sad, anti-climactic day. I love Christmas (excuse me, the holidays), always have. Well actually, it’s more the season that I love.. could live without the day. This year I have planned to purchase the Nintendo wii along with wii fit plus… and Animal crossing! This should according to my calculations make for a pretty fulfilling Christmas. Animal crossing is a game that was probably designed for 5 year olds but me and my 32 years of ‘maturity’ find a great deal of satisfaction in it. Its like a mini vacation. This is a game where nothing can go wrong.. to sum up: its impossible to die! (my kind of game). Fishing, fruit picking, clothes making and furniture shopping. Perfection.

I would also like to take this opportunity to tell you that this coming Sunday, November 29th, We are going to be ‘out and about’… I will announce where and why closer to the end of the week

If you didn’t know New Moon was released last week you must have been on another planet! Twi-mania is everywhere and it’s a seriously hot topic in my office. Well the Edward Vs Jacob issue is certainly discussed at every opportunity! And with the stars of the film appearing in every magazine under the sun it’s hard to not get talking about the fashion too. (Check out how gorgeous Ashley Green, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone and Kellan Lutz look in December Glamour).

On the Kristen Stewart front its been a little hit and miss. I’m not gonna start on the hair – surely there was something a hairdresser could have done with her Joan Jett mullet but anyway! She’s a gorgeous girl; a bit alternative, likes the rock chick look but finds the whole celeb thing a bit awkward – but that’s cool. This outfit however was not.

What the hell was she thinking? What was her stylist thinking? I know, I know it’s Proenza Schouler but it just isn’t a good look on her! She looks so much edgier in these more body-con numbers and the more feminine shapes are so much more flattering! Get its sorted Kristen.

I believe at my very core that there is more to image that meets the eye and what your style says about you is a intimate journey of self-discovery.

Style has been in my blood since I was a young girl, I dressed to suit my mood and my personality. I wore what made me happy and insisted on being different.

Authentic style is a look that is all your own. It is your way to express yourself through your own combination of tastes, desires, passions, inspirations and lifestyle. It’s unfortunate that in today’s world, many people are influenced by society, media, trends and celebrities and as a result all look the same! Part of my style process is embracing your essence and history. Everyone has a story, where you grew up, how your parents influenced you, what your budget was and now is and how you have evolved as a person over the years.

When your authentically styled you feel it in every bone in your body, you stand tall and feel exhilarated when you walk out your front door in the morning. By exposing yourself to all kinds of influences and dressing with an open mind, you will both discover new things that will inspire you to change and embrace the parts of yourself you already love. Building your Style (a.k.a Self) Confidence is good for your soul.

I’m not a certified image consultant and I did not go to school for it. Like I mentioned early image and style are two very distinct things. One I believe to be superficial and the other I deem to be authentic. I’m an expert in Style because it’s been the one constant in my life from a very early age, I went to school for Fashion to pursue my passion but like a lot of people I let society dictate the direction of my life and ended up in Marketing. Now I’m determined to do what makes me happy and what comes naturally to me and that is working with amazing women to bring out their true beauty in an authentic and inspiring way.

My only interest is being me.

I created a  website for a very talented freelance stylist based in Cape Town, called Karen Wieffering. Minimal design was used as to place emphasis on the beautiful photography and the work of the stylist. Usually, I avoid coding sites myself, as I prefer to leave that to the professionals, but for smaller jobs like these, I do have to get stuck into the development side of things. My laced skort.

I met this stylist a few months back. He had some cute clothes on racks for sale. Me and my bestfriend scoured through them taking the potentials out and weighing the pieces of clothing against our bodies and looking for each others apporval. I’m crazy for skorts and there was this cute skort (skirt+shorts=skort) I had my eye on, but the price was pretty hefty and the waist 2 sizes too large. I closed in on the stylist and asked if he had a smaller one and he replied no, but the one I was holding could fit me. Hmmm, I thought. I told him that I did not like it hanging 0.5 inches above my crotch and that it would be better if I wore it as a highwaisted skort. He told me, “If you want to be in style, you have to dress up to date, and low-waisted is up to date.” That bold statement totally caught us of guard, but then fashion is subjective, still, got me and my bestfriend steering clear from him. The skort? Left it on the rack for another girl to buy.I’ll come back 2 seasons later … maybe.

I have had a rockin’ weekend. On Friday I was graced with the best Thrice performance I’ve seen thus far, Saturday was spent with my brother, some friends, and my cousin Nate, and now Real Salt Lake takes the MLS cup!!! To honor the men who made my weekend the best I’ve had in a long while I decided to style an outfit for the big boys. I will go more into the awesomeness of my weekend in later posts so keep checking the blog if you want to know more.

This sweater, can I just say, is drool worthy. It almost makes me wish I had a boyfriend so I could dress him in it. Almost. And the shoes are super rad, the perfect balance of edgy without being so out there that you look like you’re trying too hard. For those of you who think that v-neck sweaters should be worn with crew neck tees, I promise you that this is a myth. Men’s fashion is all about the details and doubling up on the v-necks is one detail that totally works.

I recently had yet another chance to travel to Sydney and stay for a while whilst working. Sydney’s weather didn’t treat me too well but apart from that, it was a good time had by all, I shopped, partied, hung out with friends and family, explored new places, met some amazing new friends, and set some awesome things up that you’ll see in the future. Aside from all that I got two days of shoots in for the lovely Asia Power’s 2009/2010 summer capsule range of which you’ll see the finals for within the next few days…
