Thanks to everyone who came out on Wednesday night to celebrate the first installment of our revamped “Drinking Liberally!” If you missed the boat, make sure you mark your calendars now for the next one, which will be Wednesday, December 16th (we’re aiming for the third Wednesday of each month).

Sub Zero was a great host, Gubernatorial candidate Ethan Berkowitz stopped by and gave a talk on the importance of spreading broadband internet to rural Alaskans, and the crowd braved the weather and offered a relaxing night full of conversation, laughs, and brew. I had an outstanding time and actually managed to drink a bit too liberally, which caught up with me today. Probably a good thing that it’s only once a month!

Caso naum tenha a menor idéia sobre o que esse doido, que aqui escreve, se refere, continue lendo tb, afinal se você está aqui é pq naum tem PN melhor pra fazer agora, não é mesmo!? E aposto que irá se divertir…

O principal sucesso do Mortal Kombat na década de 90 não se deu apenas pela boa jogabilidade do console (o que inclui rancar o coração ou a cabeça de seu adversário, queimá-lo vivo, ou o explodir, dentre outros), lançado originalmente para Super Nintendo (ê saudades!), mas principalmente pelo realismo dos gráficos! Tudo isso graças à estratégia inovadora da Midway de utilizar Atores Reais (é isso mesmo!) e não apenas aqueles personagens tortos, computadorizados e, consequentemente, escrotos (quem já jogou Oscar sabe exatamente do que estou me referindo).

Quando a Midway resolveu fazer o jogo e anunciou a procura por profissionais de perfil atlético e com bom domínio de artes marciais para interpretarem os personagens, houve mais inscrições que o bbb e ídolos, juntos! Confiram alguns testes que o blog Amor Com Humor teve acesso exclusivo e lhes trazem em primeira mão, mostrando o quão árduo foi o processo de escolha!

Que tal conhecermos agora alguns dos escolhidos?! Começarei por um dos principais personagens: Sub-Zero, o homem de gelo! Interpretado pelo modelo, fisiculturista, personal trainer, ex-policial e ator (o que o google naum faz, não?!) John Turk, que também caracterizou demais personagens do jogo, como Shang Tsung, Sub-Zero Clássico, Scorpion, Reptile, Smoke, Rain, Ermac, Noob Saibot e Chameleon!

De acordo com o site Mortal Kombat Secrets (www.mksecrets.net), de onde as imagens foram tiradas, para os personagens que utilizavam o mesmo modelo de roupa, variando apenas a cor, a vestimenta era única, ou seja, esse vermelho são-paulino que o John usa na foto acima, e todo o truque era realizado no computador.

Demais atores também merecem destaque, dentre eles, Lia Montelongo (Sindel e Sareena), John Parrish (Jax Briggs) e Richard Divizio (Kano, Baraka, Kabal, Quan Chi).

Na segunda fileira, mas não menos importantes, Sal Divita (Nightwolf, Cyrax, Sektor e Cyber-Smoke), Tony Marquez (Kung Lao) e Brian Glynn (Shao Kahn).

Ocupando a terceira e última fileira, só as meninas, iniciando pela boneca de borracha (sim, os 4 braços não eram reais! kkkkkk) Sheeva, Becky Gable (Mileena, Kitana, Jade e Khameleon) e Kerri Hoskins (musa da Playboy e Sonya Blade).

Agora que já foram apresentados, que tal um pouco de ação?!

Recently, I had the honor of being invited to my first blogger event. Debbie Schaeffer, president of Mrs. G TV & Appliances located on Route 1 in Lawrencelle, NJ, along with Hilary Morris, president of H. Morris Solutions, LLC as her assistant, kicked off the Mrs. G’s VIB (very important blogger) Series, which was sponsored by Mrs. G’s and Electrolux . This gathering enabled the invited bloggers to network, tour the showroom, and watch presentations and demos of selected Electroux products.

I met both @DebbieSchaeffer and @MrsMoNJ (Hilary Morris) on Twitter a while back. They are both local business owners, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet them in person, as well as the other bloggers from the tri-state area.

I haven’t been in the store for two years, and had forgotten they had the interior renovated, so when I walked in, my breath was taken away by the changes. The typical 2,000 sq. ft. appliance row showroom had been transformed into a gorgeous, updated space of several kitchen vignettes on the entrance side. Seeing things in a home-like setting certainly helps you envision how a piece would look in your own home, as opposed to looking at them lined up like soldiers. This is certainly not the setting my grandmother had to shop for an oven.

The mix of colors, textures and 21st century design, was most impressive! Beautiful wood cabinetry mixed with stainless steel, granite and tumbled marble is just an example of what was displayed. She has re-invented the family business, founded by her grandmother, “Mrs G” along with her grandfather almost 75 years ago. There is a section in the back called “The Living Kitchen”, which is like a store within the store due to the space allotted for it, and it is filled with Wolf and Sub-Zero products in a sleek, modern environment intended for the design-oriented luxury market no doubt. I was salivating as I walked through it to the conference room. This is a place where serious home cooks just want to roll up their sleeves, and get creative. All of my friends who have come over for a five-course meal, ask me if all the kitchen gadgets I have make a difference in the outcome of the meal. I usually tell them while winking, it’s the talent of the cook that matters most. In reality, appliances do greatly effect the outcome, e.g. the taste of freezer burn can be avoided, dairy and produce stay fresher, and cook times can be shortened. Not that my kitchen is shabby, but honey, have you seen my photos?

After a chance to meet and greet all attending, and a nice welcome, we walked over to the video room, and I was dazzled by the variety of flat panel TVs. Debbie informed us how home entertainment is changing with TVs & Blu-Ray DVD players having the capability to display web content. Right up my alley: Pandora Radio, Netflix, YouTube and more, all on the BIG screen. This technology is becoming more mainstream, not just for geeks like me connecting a laptop to my HDTV! Then there was a brief showing of a television show in which Mrs. G’s was one of the businesses highlighted, explaining the history of the establishment owned by three generations. After viewing it, of course, I was lured to the new 82″ Mitsubishi 3-D DLP that was on display showing the family film Coraline in 3-D. I hope no one noticed me drooling. I put on the special battery operated 3-D glasses, and it was just as good as watching it in the theater! I’ve been wanting to buy an LED back-lit screen, but this was bigger than my 65″ Mitsubishi rear projection model, and I DO have space for it! Besides, the price was just a bit higher than what I paid for my HDTV eight years ago! Hmmm?

Two representitives were present from Electrolux. First, Joe Visicaro, explained the features and advantages of their washers and dryers, including the benefits of steam, how they have the largest capacity, and quickest wash and dry times in their class, and how you can program their washing machines to clean a specific type of stain.

Then we walked over to Leigh Donadieu for a demonstartion of a convection oven and induction cooktop. She is also a chef, and served us a delicious lunch cooked on the premises using the working appliances. I love kitchen gadgets, and in recent years, large appliances have stepped up to the level of home computers. They are very intelligent. Ovens can do everything except knead your dough to bake the perfect baguette, and refrigerators can flash freeze your food to avoid freezer burn.

After lunch, I spoke with Debbie, who explained how she had her employees re-trained to be the most informative staff with the utmost customer service. They have a great mix of products for all budgets, including products that work well with a “green” lifestyle, the most competitive prices by being a part of a buying organization, which brings the combined purchasing power of thousands of retailers, AND they price match any competitor’s advertisement! This is a winning business plan! Actually, it’s a win-win situation for both retailer and consumer! If you live in New Jersey or Eastern Pennsylvania, I highly recommend contacting Mrs. G’s before making any appliance or television purchase. A trip to this fabulous showroom is well worth it!

Another of the most frequently asked questions in our stores is “What is the maximum CFM I can have on my hood/over-the-range (OTR) microwave before I have to look into a make-up air system?”

The answer is 300 CFM, but why (other than it’s Minnesota code)?

Faber Rangehood’s blog answered that question, plus offered a good explanation of the misunderstood CFM.

Also, a situation of negative pressure could also occur when too much air is pulled out of the home and it is not replaced by air from the outside. In today’s construction the homes are becoming more and more air tight and when too much air is pulled out of a home, you need to sometimes “make up” for that lost air by pumping outside air into the home. In colder climates this is a huge issue, in most parts of Canada there are laws in place about maximum cfm’s before a make up air system has to be installed (typically 300 cfm is the threshold).

Rumor mill blog Appliance Advisor reported that Sub-Zero and Wolf ditched their carbon- and platinum-finish lines, along with several handle options. I previously blogged about the distinctive look of carbon.

Energy Star Appliances May Not All Be Efficient, Audit Finds

The New York Times reported an internal audit conducted by the Deparment of Energy concluded the Energy Star program needed tighter tracking of appliance manufacturers using the energy-efficient label.

Some believe this wakeup call will lead to tighter standards and perhaps will supply the push needed to create a “super star” program IDing the top 5% of energy-efficient appliances.

Warners’ Stellian, in cooperation with Minnesota Greenstar, already promotes distinction of appliance energy use by tiers.

Minnesota to get $5 million for rebates on appliances

Details are still being hashed out by the Minnesota DOE on the $5 million “dollars for diswashers” Energy Star-rated appliance rebate program, funded by federal stimulus program.

Our own operations director/co-owner Robert Warner helped advise the team responsible for state’s plans for the money (which appliances if replaced would make the biggest energy dent, etc.)

The program, which is expected to begin in March, has yet to receive approval, but it probably look something like this:

• $200 for refrigerators/washers
• $150 for dishwashers
• $100 for freezers

The program limits one appliance rebate per household, meaning about 25,000 households will get a rebate.

Some say the months-away start will delay appliance purchase, but with the energy savings lost in waiting several months to purchase (see Energy Star’s savings calculator) and the current low prices characteristic of this season, buying now could be an even better deal — with less-crowded showrooms

I would be outrageously lying if I said that the reason that I haven’t been updating the blog properly is because I’ve been snowed under with work. As a very honest fellow, I will tell you the truth, which is that I really haven’t thought of anything that has really motivate me to write something, to be honest! I’m thinking of doing an album review of The Saturdays new album, Wordshaker shortly, but only when I can be bothered to get my dictionary out to find out how many words there are for AMAZING! As well as not really having any inspiration to write, I’ve also been out quite a lot over the past 3 weeks, so that hasn’t really helped.

So that is pretty much my first 3 weeks in pictures! Or at least the first three weeks of nights out. However, there was one night at Route again in Fresher’s week where I forgot to take my camera, so no glorious pictures from that yet, unfortunately! So I have been a fairly busy (drunk) person! Not been out yet this week. I was going to go out on Monday, because it was a special Pop night at SubZero, which I’m always going to be a fan of, but I couldn’t be bothered.

So what have you been up to recently? I should stop writing and go and do some reading for lectures tomorrow. If you have read this, even if I have no idea who you are, please comment! I do get quite a lot of views, although not as many as I used to, but only ever get the same two wonderful people commenting! I guess two is better than none…

Selfridges is a regular stop on my lunchtime route when I’m at work – in the name of fashion features research, but more just to admire the food hall and add to new jewels and gadgets to my Wonder Room wishlist.

So, with an hour or two to languish away, I headed down the Ultra Lounge to sample the finest ice cream available to humanity at The Icecreamists’ punk-luxe, guerilla ice cream installation.

The Icecreamists have reclaimed ice cream from weepy, Bridget Jones drudgery and made it seriously sexy, with decadent flavours and extravagant frozen cocktails in a luxurious boutique parlour.  The ‘installation’ is decked out like the backstage area of the ultimate glam rock concert with black PVC sofas, a silver banqueting table and small stage with splashes of hot pink.  The decor gives a nod to Stephen Sprouse’s punky neon graffiti and there is even a souped up icecream van driven by HRH herself!

We tried a scoop of the Axl Rose-Water ice cream – a pastel pink concoction of rose water, vanilla and dried rose petals.  The ice cream is based on traditional artisan gelato methods, using less fat and less air than American versions, making it smoother, healthier and more flavoursome.

The flavours are classics remixed with crazy names like Obamarama (milk chocolate, funnily enough), Gingiana Jones (Asian spiced ginger), Glastonberry and The Molotoffee Cocktail.  They’re not cheap at £4.99 a tub, but it was the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted, out of Italy, anyway!

But if you want more Heston Blumenthal-style molecular bells and whistles, there’s God Save the Cream – a cryogenic ‘reverse’ flambee cocktail created at your table and served at a ridiculously cold -196 degrees.  Or, save your lips from frostbite with the Sex Pistol ice cream cocktail that promises to get you going with natural stimulants, absinthe ice cream and a shot of absinthe in a pink water pistol.

Pamiętacie automaty? Te maszyny do gier, wielkością dorównujące niejednej lodówce, czasy świetności mają już za sobą. W nowym stuleciu ich zastosowanie najczęściej znajduje odbicie w hazardowych sitwach, tych wypolerowanych jak i takich gdzie dym tanich papierosów zastępuje azot. Niezależnie od miejsca programy automatów do gier ograniczają się do jednorękich bandziorów i tego typu cytrynowych historii. A przecież na wyciągnięcie ręki czasy, w których automaty do gier stanowiły idealną alternatywę dla drogich PC-tów czy wypróbowanych Pegasusów.

Z początkiem lat 90-tych rekordy popularności na rzeczonych maszynach tłukła przede wszystkim słynna bijatyka Street Fighter, ale już w 1992 roku na wszelkie automaty w kraju i na świecie pojawiła się gra utrzymana w podobnej konwencji, ale taka, która miała zawojować świat. Mowa o Mortal Kombat, który zresztą na PC-ty pojawił się rok później.

Intryga Czarnoksiężnika

W historii Mortal Kombat dużo namieszał potężny czarnoksiężnik Shang Tsung. Ten poplecznik wielkiego imperatora Shao Khana za jeden z najważniejszych celów postawił sobie opanowanie ziemi. Do jego realizacji potrzebne mu było dziesięć zwycięstw w legendarnym turnieju Mortal Kombat. Shang Tsung wspierany przez pół-człowieka pół-smoka z rasy Shokan niepokonanego od pięciuset lat Goro, wygrał już dziewięć turniejów, a kolejny miał być decydującym dla losów świata.

Do takiego obrotu sprawy nie mógł dopuścić opiekun Królestwa Ziemi, bóg błyskawic lord Rayden. Zatem zebrał on całkiem silną ekipę wojowników, którzy mieli walczyć na arenach jednego z najważniejszych w historii Mortal Kombat.

Ciekawe, że fabuła tej gry posłużyła za bazę do filmu kinowego z 1995 roku.

Bohaterowie pierwszego turnieju

W pierwszym Mortalu do czynienia mamy z dziesięcioma postaciami, z czego siedem z nich będzie do wyboru dla gracza.

Poza wspomnianym wcześniej bogiem przeładowań atmosferycznych, do wyboru będziemy mieli jeszcze Johnny’ego Cage’a, ponoć całkiem przyzwoitego aktora i (bisowane) ponoć zupełnie niezłego wojownika. Cage nieustannie posądzany o markowanie swoich ciosów i filmowe rozmaślenie postanowił położyć kres tym opiom i udowodnić, że potrafi całkiem nieźle się bić.

Inne przesłanki do stawienia się na turniejowej arenie ma Liu Kang. Ten chiński mnich z Shaolin, prowadzony przez swojego mentora lorda Raydena stanowi przykład najczystszych intencji i najlepszej jakości bohatera do walki ze złem. W filmie w jego poczynania wkrada się motyw zemsty, ale przyjmijmy, że w grze kieruje się on wyłącznie szlachetnymi przesłankami ku zbawieniu świata.

Do wyboru będziemy mieli także Sonyę Blade, cycatą agentka z sił specjalnych USA i OIA (Międzynarodowe Biuro Śledcze). W grze tylko fragmentarycznie jest przedstawione jak nienawidzi ona Kano. Oczywiście na deskach turnieju Mortal Kombat nie mogło zabraknąć i jego. Ten stalowo-czerwonooki bondziorno z organizacji Black Dragon tylko czeka na solidną ucztę jaką byłoby popuszczenie komuś krwi.

Obowiązkowe jest wypróbowanie w bojach dwóch wojowników zaprzyjaźnionych inaczej. Mowa o Scorpionie i o Sub Zero. Ci dwaj ninja należą do wrogich sobie klanów, a ich historia skrzyżowała się kilkukrotnie nie tylko na turnieju, ale i gdy Scorpion otrzymał zlecenie zlikwidowania Sub Zero.

Wśród bohaterów, którymi nie będziemy mogli pokierować, ale za to którzy będą mogli nam nakopać do tyłka, są oczywiście Shang Tsung, Goro oraz jaszczur Reptile, przedstawiony w stroju zielonego ninja.

Klimat do mordobicia

Jak to na bijatyki przystało wylewa się tutaj morze krwi i z racji daty premiery pierwszy Mortal Kombat stanowił swego czasu jedną z najbardziej krwawych gier. Nie chodzi nawet o  to, że przy każdym ciosie z naszego przeciwnika efektownie odpada mięso, ale spore wrażenie robią tutaj tzw. ciosy kończące, znane szerzej jako fatality, w które wyposażony jest każdy z naszych bohaterów.

Poza unikatowymi dla każdej postaci fatalites trzeba też wspomnieć o ich, również w większości przypadków unikatowych ciosach i kombosach,  które gdy umiejętnie wyciśniemy określony ciąg klawiszy wyglądają naprawdę efektownie (m.in. słynne już “baju-paba-de” Raydena czy harpun z ręki Scorpiona).

W tej rzeźni aby wypróbować nasze umiejętności przyjdzie nam stoczyć wiele pojedynków. Poprowadzą one do ostatecznych przeciwników – Goro i  Shang Tsunga. Gra oferuje do dyspozycji łącznie dziesięć aren, na których będziemy toczyć nasze boje. Mnie osobiście zawsze zachwycała pełna kości i mroku nora Goro.

Nasze walki będziemy rozgrywać w dwóch trybach – jednoosobowym i dwuosobowym. W pierwszym poza pojedynkami z przeciwnikiem prowadzonym przez komputer pojawiają się również zadania specjalne, w których dane nam będzie rozwalenie rzędu desek czy stali. W drugim trybie mamy możliwość rywalizacji z kolegą przy jednym komputerze.

Mortal Kombat szesnaście lat później

Dość powiedzieć, że w dniu premiery oprawa graficzna pierwszego Mortala uznawana była za rewelacyjną. Grafika była szczegółowa, a animacje płynne i sprawne.

Wyłącznie na plus wypowiadano się także o świetnych efektach dźwiękowych (oczywiście w midi), wyjątkowo realistycznie oddających klimat walki. Kryją się za tym odgłosy wydawane przez konkretnych bohaterów dostosowane do aktualnych wydarzeń na arenie. Tak więc oto kiedy sprezentujemy cios w szlachetne miejsce np. Kano, to ów nikczemnik potrafi bardzo mocno zawyć z bólu, a kiedy Rayden wykonuje swoje najbardziej znane kombo z jego ust wydobywa się naprawdę konkretna porcja okrzyków. Mała rzecz, a jednak cieszy.

Naturalne jest, że okiem gracza a.d. 2009 Mortal Kombat stanowi wyłącznie relikt przeszłości, a przetaczane powyżej cechy mogą co najwyżej wywoływać porcję uśmiechu, ale – używając klasycznego pytania – kto by się tym przejmował?

Every Mortal Kombat Fatality

Like the title says, someone has put together every Mortal Kombat fatality in to a six minute video.

Not for those who can’t stomach pixelated unrealistic video game death and gore.

 

Neste feriado tivemos um dia de Sol “magavilhoso” em Indaiá. E como eu tenho uma namorada linda, eu me divirto com alguns clicks!! E o resultado ta aqui pra todo mundo ver… rs

É Booooooaaaaa… eu sei!

I remember once many years ago (the actual date slips my mind though my brother seems to remember as well) that it snowed on a Halloween. Well that was in Western Canada. Aside from the myths, it isn’t always sub-zero temperatures and snowy landscapes. Never had I witnessed snow in the middle of summer or snow all year round. It was forever etched into my brain that Halloween was the earliest snowfall we had ever received.

Well yesterday we were visiting Hop Lop so Smilla could release all the built up energy inside her since she has been spending lots of time inside and not as much outside now that it is getting cold. We were just about to leave when I noticed that it was snowing! Wow. Snow in the middle of October. What a surprise. I knew it was getting cold and I thought that if it was going to snow on any day in October I thought it was going to be the day before (Sunday) because it was sub-zero all day and yesterday was actually quite warm. It snowed all afternoon and evening though that disgusting wet snow that didn’t stick to the ground. But it was snow anyways!

Before retiring for the night I checked outside and there wasn’t a sign of snow. Falling or fallen. I was a little worried that my expectations had been shot down. But in the morning the reality was that snow had eventually fallen secretly and we were left with a thin white blanket.

This could be a sign of a very long winter!

This won’t give you any indication of the game, but it sure is funny to watch my first playthrough of the game.

The controls for the game are so hard, why have a BUTTON to turn around?
