Este piloto nunca dejará de sorprendernos. La última, coger su Subaru Impreza STI, sustituir los neumáticos por unas orugas parecidas a las de una moto de nieve y lanzarse a hacer lo que más le gusta, derrapar. El resultado no es tan espectacular como el de sus hazañas anteriores, pero merece la pena verlo.

Y esta vez se atreve con un Subaru Impreza STI con… ¡orugas! Desde luego que no le gana nadie a la hora de crear campañas publicitarias para la empresa de la que es co-fundador, DC Shoes.

Este Impreza STI desarrolla 400 CV y, como hemos dicho, sustituye los neumáticos por las orugas. Dice el piloto de rallies –y showman–

que el TRAX STI “combina dos de mis cosas favoritas en la vida: pilotar un coche de rally en la nieve y hacer snowboard en el campo”.

Today I took the time to look through some old car magazines. Nothing too old mind you, but there were some from as far back as 2002. In the automotive magazine landscape, that is like a billion years old; especially when the magazine in question no longer exists. The magazine that I was flipping through is an old copy of Sport Compact Car that I own. I never had a subscription to the magazine and I never really had much interest in the publication because when that particular magazine was published, I wasn’t even old enough to drive a car. What attracted me to that issue was the picture on the front of the magazine. It is of a 2002 Subaru STi. This was the new boy; the one that just came out and was only available (still) on the other side of the pond. Sure we had finally gotten our grubby little hands on the WRX, but the STi still eluded us. I was fascinated by this car because it was WR Blue and had those beautiful V7 gold wheels on it. It also helped that the car sported a 2.0 liter engine pushing out 276 horsepower and about the same amount of torque. I became interested in Subarus after watching World Rally on television. My favorite car was the Impreza with its wings and gold wheels and outlandish paint and graphics and that hood scoop. I have named this blog after a saying from one of their championship winning drivers as well. Colin McRae had a saying, “If in doubt…flat out.” And he lived up to that. I got a little off track there I guess, but what I wanted to say was that the magazine was a good one. I guess I am sad that it went away and I know there is a whole market for these types of magazines, but Sport Compact Car had a long history of giving great tech articles on Acura performance parts and other tuner type things. It wasn’t the magazine for those who liked things like Jeep Wrangler accessories, or custom poker chips or even Bell motorcycle helmets (not that there is anything wrong with those who like them) but it didn’t have to be either. I should have purchased more of these magazines now, seeing as I own a Subaru now, but its too late. Sport Compact Car, you will be missed by me.

Sportowe kompakty to ciekawe pojazdy. Oczywiście, jeśli nie są to zaszpachlowane Golfy z olbrzymimi naklejkami GTI. Takie wehikuły stwarzają zagrożenie już samym wyglądem. Inaczej jest jeśli mówimy o prawdziwych niewielkich sportowcach. Auta pokroju Golfa GTI, Focusa RS, czy nie produkowanej już Corolli TS powodują emocje. W tym segmencie Francuzi oferują Megane R26. Sportowy, trzydrzwiowy hatchback, którym śmiga między innymi Fernando Alonso jest w stanie stawić czoła rywalom. 230 konna maszyna z charakterystycznym tyłem jest ciekawą propozycją. Szczególnie, jeśli mamy do dyspozycji wyścigową wersję Megane R26.R Jest to niemal ten sam samochód, który widujemy na ulicach. Jedyna różnica polega na znacznym odchudzeniu francuza. Auto straciło 123 kilogramy po usunięciu tylniej kanapy, klimatyzacji, wyciszenia i jeszcze kilku bajerów nieprzydatnych na torze. W zamian samochód zyskał dobrą klatkę bezpieczeństwa, profesjonalne kubełki od Sabelt oraz supermocny, wszak tytanowy układ wydechowy. Z zewnątrz odznacza się pokrywa silnika wykonana z włókna węglowego.

Odciążone Megane śmiga po torach bijąc swych konkurentów. Nawet Focus RS z supertechnologią przenoszenia napędu na przednią oś został rozgromiony na słynnym SILVERSTONE. Czas okrążenia Renówki wyniósł 2:19,4 sekundy. Także na innych torach: Bedford Autodrome (West Circuit), Millbrook Ford, a nawet Subaru Impreza STI (type UK) musiały obejść się smakiem. Czyżby Francuzi chcieli udowodnić, że ich samochody nie są tylko komfortowe, ale i szybkie przez duże S?

Miguel Ángel Revilla, presidente de la comunidad cántabra -y un crack bajo mi punto de vista-, asistirá esta tarde a la presentación del equipo Subaru Rally Team Spain. El acto tendrá lugar a las 19.00 horas en los ‘Jardínes de Viares’ de la localidad de Suances.

El señor Revilla estará acompañado por Enrique García Ojeda, director y piloto del Subaru Rally Team Spain. No sé si Miguel Ángel Revilla probará alguno de los vehículos, pero si lo hace es probable que cambie la comodidad del taxi por la sensación de seguridad que transmite una persona que sepa dominar el arte del contravolante de manera casi celestial.

Al evento acudirán otras autoridades como el consejero de Turismo, Cultura y Deporte, Francisco Javier López Marcano, representantes de la Federación Española de Automovilismo, de Subaru España y patrocinadores del equipo.

Subaru Rally Team Spain jugará sus bazas en los Campeonatos de España de Asfalto y Tierra. Detrás de los volantes se situarán Enrique García Ojeda, Mario Ceballos (ambos pilotos de asfalto) y Brice Tirabassi (piloto de tierra). Para esta temporada, los pilotos contarán con tres Subaru Impreza STI del grupo N fabricados exclusivamente para el equipo por Prodrive.
