It is easy to use and you can achieve quick results. The question to you here today, you're tired, not with the life you want and desire for yourself? If yes, then read this article with a positive open.

One of the most important steps to help you success in your life is in knowledge is the magic word that happened to all this is, right where you are. Too often people think that they are making them happy, or correct answers are elsewhere. This is somewherebeside himself. They tend to think to just go along day by day, that something will come and give them what they want in life. That's just not how it happens.

Here are some steps you can take to help you with your personal power, after what you go in life.

Believe in yourself, but that seems so fundamentally important to your self-esteem. If you are feeling good about ourselves, you will have this unstoppable force. You're a good person with unlimited powerable to achieve something you achieve your sights.

Mirror exercise – take the time every day to look at himself in the mirror and even some compliments, you say you are lovable valuable, smart, you're something special. You are someone important. You are someone that matters. You are someone who can make a difference. Now ask yourself, what I really want for myself in life? What would make me happy?

Write a list of at least 25 things that youwant before you waste your time on this earth does not end. Then make a plan and start taking action to achieve goals. Then as you reach them they keep motivated to get everything completed on your list at the beginning.

On Wed night The Venue at Melrose Arch was abuzz with excited final year design students awaiting the outcome of the Sappi thinkahead Student Portfolio Awards for 2009.

These awards, started in 2002, are directed solely at graduating communication design students, giving them a chance to showcase their work to creative directors looking for upcoming talent!

After scrumptious little cocktails and a browse of the gallery displaying the finalists’ work we took our seats in the auditorium. The students represented 11 design schools with North West University emerging as the top institution for 2009. The big winner of the evening was Emarie Gouws of North West University who received a Platinum award.

Thank you to Sarah Beswick, event coordinator and Graham Foote, Sappi Marketing Manager for making us so welcome.

Best wishes to all the graduates in their future careers.

As if I won’t already have enough things I want to do and time I want to spend with family, a friend and I are starting our own little novel challenge, just between the two of us. My friend believes they can easily outwin me. The terms of the contract so far state 20,000 words to be written in a ten day period. This time around its not quantity, but a focus on quality. Not sure why we are doing this, but why not? Should be interesting. Today while I was wandering around I came upon my idea for my novel. I feel like I have these ‘jolts of inspiration’. An idea or story route appears in my mind. The same goes for my nano novel. I’m sitting there and suddenly I go “AHHH, oh my god”. I get a crazed look on my face and whoever is nearby gets to hear my latest idea. I’m really starting to like these flashes of inspiration, I truly hope they continue well after this month is over.

I received my sparkpeople gear in the mail today! I am uber excited. I have the monthly calendar and a sparkpeople mug, all courtesy of the $20 gift certificate I received for pre-ordering The Spark by Chris Downie. Wow, how weird. Two of the things I love the most in the world were started by men with the name Chris. And I realized the other day that three of my really close friends names also start with the letter C. Maybe there is something to it, I will have to investigate.

Okay so I admit I am not 100% happy with my body. What woman is? Even though I try to think positive and feel grateful for everything my body allows me to do, I just can’t shake the memory of three years ago when I weighed 20 pounds less and felt amazing. I want that again. The only thing is I don’t know if that’s the best for my body. Just as my body is changing, so is my hair. It used to be relatively straight to wavy. Now it is all out curly again. I haven’t had hair like this for at least four to five years, maybe longer. But it was a welcome change, not as much styling required when damp hair will take its own shape and form in the morning.

Alright I am off to get cracking on Word. I think my fingers are going to give up soon, ah that feeling of pain must be nanoing!! My technique today has been to set a time limit and a word count that I must reach. It really helps to have someone tell you that you MUST do it or that there will be a consequence of not meeting this mini-goal. Next time you see me (tomorrow) I will be well past 40k. And then the finish line is so close. I would truly like to finish the competition by November 28, 2009. Nothing like finishing early!

Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek. - Mario Andretti

A recap on some important messages.

One of the great benefits of being a team of authors is that we, too, are learning from each other. So on that theme I wanted to review some of the Posts that have been written by my fellow authors as a reminder of some powerful motivational ideas.

Sir Ranulph Fiennes

When asked about his approach to climbing Everest at the third attempt in May 2009 and, at age 65, the oldest Briton to do so, he captured the full spirit of separating actions from goals when he said:

Plod forever! Don’t expect to get there. Don’t think there is going to be a top to this mountain. Just plod forever!

Watch the video.

Ann Daniels

The personal strengths that I have used to achieve my Polar goals are no different to the strengths that people need to meet the challenges that they face at work, especially during this time of economic turmoil. People need to be focused, committed, resilient and able to perform at their optimum.

The truth is that if you had asked me what my strengths were before I embarked on my adventures I would have had difficulty naming any. Like many people, I had several self-limiting beliefs and low expectations.

That all changed when I was given an opportunity to become part of a female relay team going to the North Pole. I had many doubts but I suddenly realised I could do many things – and I did.

By the way, in case you are waiting for the “dogs” connection, there isn’t one: she does not use dogs. She and her team mates “man haul” everything on sleds that weigh up to 250 lbs, including over jagged pressure ridges of ice up to 30ft high.

She walks, skis and (wait for it…) swims to the poles!

In the following interview, she reveals a variety of aspects of her exploration:

Benjamin Zander

Just put aside an hour and watch the video. You are worth the investment of one small hour.

The title of the Post comes from Zander’s powerful presentation. Video quality not so good (but good enough) but messages highly motivational. It really is worth watching – and passing on to others.

Tim Smit

Likewise watch Tim’s presentation to the British Institute of Directors.

Now closer to home …
Jon Lavin

Jon, one of our authors, specialises in personal development especially within business:

Jon’s success is his understanding of people and how they are in relationship with each other. This requires that people are able to self-reflect and be willing to examine behaviours that are no longer fit for purpose. Many life problems originate from the difficulties we create through our own behaviours and then inflict them onto other people.

By bringing this realisation into our everyday lives, it becomes possible to create desired change which has the potential to have a huge impact. With this change can come a freedom from old patterns and a choice to be how we want to be. This clearly can have a powerful and positive influence on business performance where managers and teams actively participate in this type of personal development. In the current business climate, the importance of this has become even more apparent as companies cut staff and expect more from fewer people.

And still staying close to home …
Sherry Jarrell

Sherry is another author. Just see how important words were to her:

My brother was now in graduate school in Chicago, and he and I were talking on the phone one night. Ours was an awkward relationship, particularly in person. It was much easier to talk on the phone or write letters. Less personal maybe. More safe.

The fact that we didn’t speak often and weren’t warm and comfortable in person made his comment to me all the more unexpected and memorable and, as it turns out, life-altering. I was telling him about some academic articles I had studied in class. The articles were about economics and regulation, and were so intellectually challenging but accessible and clear. They were written by Sam Peltzman and George Stigler. My brother said to me, “Sherry, both of those men are professors here at the University of Chicago. You should think about applying to the Ph.D. program. I can see you going here. You can do it!”

All of us, without exception, have to fight those demons in our minds that make us want to give up (resignation) or blame our circumstances on things external to us (anger). But as Dr David Hawkins once wrote, “You can’t give away what you don’t own.” If we ‘own’ a willingness to change, to find opportunities (possibilities), to smile, to be grateful, to embrace the world and all the other attributes demonstrated in this Post then You CAN do it.

I Kings 19:11-13 (NLT)

“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And a voice said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Everyone has an opinion. Even those people who choose not to openly share their thoughts and convictions concerning life have them. It is not uncommon for others to freely share their experience and knowledge to aid a friend, acquaintance, and sometimes even an absolute stranger in making it through a challenging circumstance. God’s most solid Christians have moments of uncertainty when the outside counsel of others seem appropriate only to create thunderous roars of endless banter. The storm that is created in one’s mind dulls all reasonable thinking as anxiety and fear rise up from the enemy. The endless chatter rattles the mind until a proverbial earthquake effect is created shattering all that was once firmly grounded as truth. The burning fire of man’s inspection and dissection of life created by the tinder of a sin-based assessment threatens to overtake the controlled-burning of the Holy Spirit. The question even becomes unclear in the dust and rubble of doubt. Hiding away in hopes of disappearing, you hear it. It’s different from the other voices. It is quiet and still. The gentleness breaks your heart in a new way as the comforting peace of God sweeps over you! It’s Him, It’s the Lord! He hasn’t forgotten you! He has just been waiting on His Turn to be heard! Are you listening?

Elijah was on a “mountaintop” of ministry when he suddenly found himself hiding from his enemies in a cave. How did that happen? His head reeling with the warnings of the people, his faith was now completely buried in the rubble of the words of others. All well meaning, yet not necessarily accurate in assessment! It was true that there were threats against his life. Elijah and the prophets were making headway for God. But in these warnings, fear and doubt was harbored and now this mighty man of God was cowering in a cave high on a mountain. In his solitude, God came forward to be heard. He asked His Child, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” See God didn’t tell him to go there, to hide and to relent. God did not tell him to be scared and retreat. The Lord never once introduced the notion of death to Elijah. But the enemy did through the words of others. My friend, the enemy of your soul is using the same tactics today that he did that day in the life of Elijah. God’s promise for you is alive and well. The Truth that your God spoke directly into your heart is not subject to the opinion of others. His purpose is clear in your mind because it is in the care of the Holy Spirit until the time of readiness. Others will not understand no matter how inclined they may be to think so. Your greatest purpose is revealed in one-on-one communication with God. Don’t let the words of others steal your victory today! God is whispering to you! Forget the noise! He is peaceful and sweet in His Great Love for you and will not add to the pressure but dismiss it completely!

Ezekiel 3:22-23 (NLT)

Then the Lord took hold of me and said, “Get up and go out into the valley, and I will speak to you there.” So I got up and went, and there I saw the glory of the Lord, just as I had seen in my first vision by the Kebar River. And I fell face down on the ground.

Is God calling you to the valley today? If it has become impossible to think in the midst of clamoring opinions, rattling insights, and pounding pressure, it is definitely time to turn off the noise and listen for your Father! The Lord will speak directly to you concerning any and every situation if you will just separate yourself from the noise. His Voice is quiet and peaceful and His Words are truth! They will make your path straight and open His Kingdom to you right now, right here. When you do this, you will see the Glory of God! Your answer will be clear and certain! Peace will be yours! Purpose fulfilled and Promises revealed! Listen, Jesus is calling you to the valley. He wants to speak to you today!

Relax … (takes a deep breath before you read this)

Author unknown:

An interesting reflection: Slow Down Culture………

It’s been 18 years since I joined Volvo, a Swedish company. Working for them has proven to be an interesting experience. Any project here takes 2 years to be finalized, even if the idea is simple and brilliant. It’s a rule.

Globalize processes have caused in us (all over the world) a general sense of searching for immediate results. Therefore, we have come to possess a need to see immediate results. This contrasts greatly with the slow movements of the Swedish. They, on the other hand, debate, debate, debate, hold x quantity of meetings and work with a slowdown scheme. At the end, this always yields better results.

Said in another words:

1. Sweden is about the size of San Pablo, a state in Brazil.

2. Sweden has 2 million inhabitants.

3. Stockholm has 500,000 people.

4. Volvo, Escania, Ericsson, Electrolux, Nokia are some of its renowned companies. Volvo supplies the NASA.

The first time I was in Sweden, one of my colleagues picked me up at the hotel every morning. It was September, bit cold and snowy. We would arrive early at the company and he would park far away from the entrance (2000 employees drive their car to work). The first day, I didn’t say anything, either the second or third. One morning I asked, “Do you have a fixed parking space? I’ve noticed we park far from the entrance even when there are no other cars in the lot.” To which he replied, “Since we’re here early we’ll have time to walk, and whoever gets in late will be late and need a place closer to the door. Don’t you think so?” Imagine my face.

Nowadays, there’s a movement in Europe named Slow Food. This movement establishes that people should eat and drink slowly, with enough time to taste their food, spend time with the family, friends, without rushing. Slow Food is against its counterpart: the spirit of Fast Food and what it stands for as a lifestyle. Slow Food is the basis for a bigger movement called Slow Europe, as mentioned by Business Week. Basically, the movement questions the sense of “hurry” and “craziness” generated by globalization, fuelled by the desire of “having in quantity” (life status) versus “having with quality”, “life quality” or the quality of being”.

French people, even though they work only 35 hours per week, are more productive than Americans or British. Germans have established 29 hour workweeks and have seen their productivity been driven up by 20%. This slow attitude has brought forth the US’s attention, pupils of the fast and the “do it now!“. This no-rush attitude doesn’t represent doing less or having a lower productivity. It means working and doing things with greater quality, perfection, with more attention to detail and less stress. It means reducing rejects and wastage. It means re-establishing family values, friends, free and leisure time. Taking the “now”, present and concrete, versus the “global”, undefined and anonymous future. It means taking humans’ essential values, the simplicity of living. It stands for a less coercive work environment, more happy, lighter and more productive where humans enjoy doing what they know best how to do.

It’s time to stop and think on how companies need to develop serious quality with no-rush that will increase productivity and the quality of products and services, without losing the essence of spirit.

In the movie, Scent of a Woman, there’s a scene where Al Pacino asks a girl to dance and she replies, “I can’t, my boyfriend will be here any minute now“. To which Al responds, “A life is lived in an instant“. Then they dance to a tango.

Many of us live our lives running behind time, but we only reach it when we die of a heart attack or in a car accident rushing to be on time. Others are so anxious of living the future that they forget to live the present, which is the only time that truly exists. We all have equal time throughout the world. No one has more or less. The difference lies in how each one of us does with our time. We need to live each moment.

As John Lennon said, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans“.

Congratulations for reading till the end of this message. There are many who will have stopped in the middle so as not to waste time in this globalized world.

Upon entering the theater I felt nerves and anticipation coursing through my body. I expected to cry

Upon entering the theater I felt nerves and anticipation coursing through my body. I expected to cry. I expected to feel anger and helplessness. I did, indeed, feel all of those emotions; but, I also felt more emotions than I expected inspired by the people around me and their comments. The experience of watching Precious has likely strengthened my resolve to tell my story. Not because anyone can do it if Precious did it, but, because, it will be my red scarf handed down to the little girl who feels all alone in the world.

Prior to viewing this movie, I read tweets from people who refused to see it, from those who saw it and were deeply touched, and from those who opined on the gross amount of racial stereotypes. Of those who refused to see it, many found fault based on the previous work of the people responsible for bringing the film to the big screen: Lee Daniels, Tyler Perry, and Oprah Winfrey. Words and phrases such as “coonery” and “typical black girl from the ghetto” were common in their complaints. Of those who saw it and were unimpressed, this tweet speaks volumes: “Whoeva suggest anyone too see this movie “precious” need to kill urself….dis givs black familys a bad look smh.” Please don’t listen to this person. I could cry peeling back the layers of disillusionment and incongruity present in that one allegorical onion. What came first: Precious or the Black Family?

This movie was adapted for film by Lee Daniels based on the novel “Push” by Sapphire. It is a first person narrative dictated to us by Clarice “Precious” Jones. Walking through the streets of Harlem with a scowl on her face and the weight of years of sexual, physical, and verbal abuse on her shoulders, she tells us the story of her life in such a manner that it prompted one viewer behind me to say, “This is realistic. I like it.” A concise and accurate statement, it is the reason to see the movie.

In the afore-mentioned tweet we see a common model for behavior in (Black) families. What goes on in the house, stays in the house; and, this is a thread that runs throughout the movie, as well. From the outset, we see Precious avoiding the truth and refusing to tell her story, petrified that her mom would kill her. Meanwhile, her mom continues to call her a fat ass, tells her that she’s a dummy, education won’t help her, she’s a nobody, and she should rely on a welfare check to get by in life. These are the racial stereotypes that people are afraid to see. They don’t want people to know what is said in their homes. Well, maybe what is said should change. It’s just a theory. A theory that “Precious” is attempting to make a practice.

In one form or another everyone can relate to her story. We have all either been the abuser or the one abused in some way. Other comments heard around me include: “Is that really how big she is?” “She looks like a boy. She looks like Eminem.” “Y’all ain’t right.” The second comment was directed to Mariah Carey’s performance as a social worker. Without her glamorous hair and makeup team, Mariah looked like an average woman, but it prompted someone to call her a boy. Worse, her friends laughed and made other jokes about her appearance, causing one girl (the only big girl in the group) to casually denounce their behavior. It is this casual accusatory tone that encourages the abuse. It is not seen as something that is really bad behavior. If she were to leave the theater and discontinue the friendship, she would be blamed for taking herself too seriously. “It’s just a joke” they might say. Well, Precious didn’t take it as a joke when she smacked her classmate for calling her fat.

The tagline for the movie is: “Life is hard. Life is short. Life is painful. Life is rich. Life is….Precious.” Does it have to be this way, though? We’re so busy preparing each other for the “real world” that we forget to take care of each other. We forget to love. We forget to be the models of good behavior that we actually seek in others. Life is not some made up entity that comes out of nowhere to do us harm. Life is people. We are the creators of Life. If our lives are so rich and precious, why do we choose to de-value it?

The subject of my 100th post is a man who is nearly 100 years old, the great basketball coach John W

The subject of my 100th post is a man who is nearly 100 years old, the great basketball coach John Wooden. Wooden established records that will never be broken. In 10 of the last 12 years he coached, his UCLA teams won the NCAA title. During one stretch, they won a remarkable 88 games.

In his 80s, long after retiring, Coach Wooden took on a new trade, author. He has written books on his life, coaching, and a very important topic to job seekers and career managers: success.

The website TED features experts from many fields discussing their projects and passions. Wooden is featured in a section on “inspiration” (click here for the video). He often seems a throw back to the 19th century, citing poets who haven’t been taught in schools since he was a child in the 1920s. Even so, behind words that sometimes sound dated, there is a very relevant plan that anyone can use to be successful (or more successful).

In the 1930s, Wooden crafted a one sentence definition of success that he still advocates today: “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you are capable.”

This sentence is not nearly as simple as it seems. Wooden is not just saying, “Do your best.” We all tell ourselves we have done our best. But how many of us have “peace of mind?” How many of us feel a “self satisfaction” from our work? Wooden offers us a road map through his “pyramid of success.” Here we see how this great man defined and practiced a way of life that not only let him be a great coach, but a great thinker. Wooden wrote his first book in 1997. Over the last 12 years, he has produced 10 books, including this year’s Coach Wooden’s Game Plan for Success. Not bad for someone in his nineties.

For John Wooden, success does not mean always winning. It means preparing to play the right way: having values, practicing skills, and – most importantly – pursing goals with faith and patience.

We as job seekers and career managers can learn much from this man and his passion for success. I’ll close with my favorite saying from Coach Wooden: “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”

With Christmas creeping up on us faster than an electric shaver on Chad Kroeger, everyone is talking about holiday traditions. My family has some awesome stuff going on under this category, but I’m not feeling the Christmas-y vibe just yet, and I don’t think that not buying my brother a birthday present counts as a “family tradition”, or a tradition at all, though I have been going strong for at least 10 years, minus last year, when I accidentally found my heart at the LCBO and put together a Jägerbomb-making kit for the fucker. So. I’m going to blog about a toilet instead (naturally).

The toilet has been funny for about a week. When you tried to flush it, it would kind of half-ass the job (no pun intended!), like a piece-of-crap junk car trying to start on a winter morning, kind of whirl around a little bit, but require you to physically stand over it and hold down the handle to get everything down. Not acceptable! My brother attempted fixing it (I made him, since I swore he was the one who broke it in the first place, which I really cannot confirm) but failed. The next time I flushed, the bowl started to overflow. So you know what I did? I took off the lid, played around with the different gross components, and fixed it myself. Properly. That thing’s flushing like a brand new sports car now.

So, I learned two things:

1. If you want something done right, do it yourself.
2. I am awesome. Because I can fix a toilet.

I felt totally full of myself for at least a good day afterward.

The end.

In an era where technology is revolutionising the media, it helps to be known as the ‘king of blogs’. Csaba Balogh has never looked back since launching his journalistic career on the world wide web. Now editor of several web journals and one of Hungary’s best known bloggers, he warns newspapers and magazines must embrace digital technology to survive.

In 2007, Balogh sent an email to the chief editor of a news website, Hir6, saying that he would willingly write articles for them. To show he was serious, he invited the editor of Hir6 to visit his blogs. Within weeks he was working for the website and, in recognition of his technical skills, was made online director.

Balogh decided to be a journalist following a visit to the leading radio station in his hometown of Bekescsaba, Hungary. ‘It was a coincidence totally,’ he said. The event had been organised by his mother because teenage Balogh seemed to like telephoning radio stations to request songs, etc and she thought it would be interesting for him to see how things are going in a bigger studio. Once in the studio, the presenter of a youth magazine asked him if he wanted to go back on a Sunday to see how it was made. When he went back, the presenter told him ten minutes before the end of the line-up to do a presentation himself. ‘I wasn`t nervous at all as I didn`t have time to intercept what was going on,’ he said. Later he was offered him a job at the station.

In 2003, he joined the communications department at the University of Szeged. At that time he did not have a conception as everything interested him. ‘I would say that I either didn`t have an exact idea or I had/have a lot,’ he said.

As blogging was becoming to be in the focus at the time, Balogh started one with some friends. Blogter.hu, the biggest Hungarian blog provider at the time, has put his second or third writing on the front page as the leading article. He got encouraged by this and continued blogging and also success continued to accompany his efforts. ‘One that cannot break through with the help of the internet does certainly not know his stuff,’ he said. Balogh claims that the easiest way to success is through the internet as there is sudden feedback and viewers ‘might respond quicker then you leave the dashboard of your blog.’

The Hungarian talent also states that blogs are the future of journalism, rather than being a threat for the industry. ‘It is exactly the internet why journalism has a future. The same crew could publish with the help of a different medium’. However, he admits that journalism as we knew it, is not that important nowadays as public communications, i.e.: news gathering sites and blogging, of course. He sees the importance of journalists in their relationships, acquaintances in the industry, politics and social life. Balogh also has a slightly different view of the crisis of print journalism. According to him it is not only print, but online journalism as well, that is in critical situation: ‘I think the one who thinks that it is only print journalism that’s in crisis as a medium, is wrong,’ he said. The reason, he thinks, is that people prefer articles with subjective and more frank style and those that have video and sound material as well.

When asked about the credit crunch Balogh said: ‘Because of it a lot of media jobs have been cut but it also makes the companies to economize. However, that it doesn`t matter if they do, I still welcome those who are good professionals because there aren`t too many.’

Mr Balogh enjoys the freedom he has as a journalist with no specific working hours; he is an editor, writer, and content-developing advisor for http://oroscafe.hu, and http://mobilport.hu. Although he is looking forward to teaching next year, he said: ‘ Being a good journalist cannot be taught. Someone is either good or not.’

A smile is a curve that sets everything right.

Smile the moment you wake up in the morning ………………………

Develop the habit of setting a tone of happiness for the day by smiling as soon as you wake up each morning.

Smiling gets your face in the mood to be happy.

As you smile thank God for watching you all night. Then, smile at the thought that God will be present throughout the day and help you with every crisis, challenge or obstacle.

Smile to remember of at least one good thing that happened the day before. Smile at the thought of all the opportunities and blessings that await you during the day. Smile at the very fact that you are alive and smiling. And as you smile, ask for God’s grace to give you away your five smiles to others before retiring for the night.

Life is like a mirror, we get the best results when we smile at it. Have you ever seen a smiling face that was not beautiful? A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks – no one is never fully dressed without a smile. So wear a smile, one size fits all.!!!

“When we exist without thought or thanksgiving we are not men, but beasts.”M.F.K. Fisher (1908–1992) -

It is our ability to reflect on our success, our failure and that which we are thankful for which often determines our ability to truly enjoy life.

It is even greater when we can verbalize those reflections to our friends and family. When you verbalize a thought and engage in the act of sharing, you are not only making a commitment to you yourself, you are showing humility and openness. You are inviting others to be a part of your success.

Be thankful for those who have helped you along the way and be sure to let them know what they have done and the impact it has made. Share your thanks with authenticity and humility. Today is the day of reflection.

Lastly, take a few minutes and thank yourself. Make a list of your accomplishments over the last year. What are you most proud of? These moments should be acknowledged and celebrated by you.

I wish the best the Thanksgiving Holiday and am thankful for the support you have given me.

All the best,

Ideas are the seeds from which all greatness grows. Every book and every company started from the spark of an idea. Ideas come on their own time and in their own way. Those who understand this principle find a sure path to success.

The key to benefiting from ideas is to capture them. You need to write them down in a place where you can review them and use them when the time is right. In his audio book “Capturing Million Dollar Ideas,” Richard Paul Evans recommends keeping and “idea journal” with you at all times so you can capture ideas as they come. This is important because you can never control or predict when ideas will come. He further discusses five things to know about your ideas:

Your life if the sum of your ideas.

Ideas are like butterflies, they come at any time and they appear unannounced, flittering through your mind as if to find capture. Creating a place to capture the ideas seems to attract them, and in greater number. “A discovery is an accident meeting a prepared mind.”

Ideas, no matter how brilliant, have a very short shelf life.

You may not understand how big an idea is until later; some ideas need to age like cheese and wine to come to value. In come cases, you need to grow before you realize just how big a concept is.

Ideas beget other ideas.

Remember, ideas come on their own time. When ideas come to you, write them down.

—
The Product Management Perspective: Ideas are the fuel for great products. The difficulty for many product managers is capturing ideas and filtering the potentially great ones from the not so good. That topic deserves its own post (or perhaps its own book). The key point here is that you, as the PM, capture the ideas that come to you regardless of the source. The more ideas you capture the more likely you are to get the perfect new product or feature. Many times ideas will seem silly or absolutely unobtainable; write them down anyway. Over time circumstances change, technology improves and opportunities appear that you do not expect. The more ideas you have captured the better prepared you will be to develop your ideas into the next great product.

Sometimes, you just need to be wrong.

I operate on some pretty simple philosophies, one of which is:

I rarely learn anything from success (I did it *right*? – cool)… so growing means I must fail. And, if I really want to learn, I must embrace it.

TO be clear, I don’t seek failure, nor am I particularly thrilled when it occurs. I actually very much like success… a lot. I mean: A. LOT. However, when I have unsuccessfully achieved the success I had anticipated, I remind myself that this is a “learning moment” and am buoyed by the premise of new and exciting knowledge that I expect to glean from examining the details of it. In a way, this allows me to turn every failure into some form of “forensic success.” Kind of a CSI/Unsuccessful Victims Unit – without the murder.

These days, I spend real energy explaining this concept to small business entrepreneurs because without a clear explanation to reveal its basic logic, I suspect it sounds pretty defeatist. In truth, it’s exactly the opposite. In large part, learning new lessons by embracing failure begins with losing the fear of being WRONG – which can be an incredibly empowering experience. For me, that first step started almost two decades ago in France, when I had the great opportunity to be at a dinner party with David Ogilvy, who is considered one of the great leaders in advertising. While everyone else at the table spoke operational French, I did not. They all made wonderful efforts to speak in a mixture of French and English, for my sake. However, as the night wore on and the wine poured out, their ability to maintain this graciousness quickly diminished into French gibberish and, near dessert, I was getting desperate for some form of inclusion.

In retrospect, I must admit that I was also pretty well socially-lubricated by the spirits, or else I doubt I would’ve had the courage to pick up my glass and move to an empty seat next to the Great Ogilvy. Flushed by the wine and crazy from the marzipan sweets, I spent a few minutes gushing and introducing myself repeatedly, finally giving him my business card. He took it all in stride – I doubt that I was the first or last to make an ass of myself at his doorstep – and at some point, I even worked up the nerve to ask him my favorite “celebrity” question, as it always elicits an interesting response, “What would you tell your kids about success, if you could only give them one bit of advice?”

Without missing a beat, he reached into his jacket and pulled out a pen and scribbled something on the back of my card, handing it back to me face-up, with his writing hidden. As he did so, he looked me straight in the eye. “Whenever you are in passionate disagreement with someone whose opinion you respect,” he said, “And, you are positive you are right and cannot understand how they could be so damned wrong – read this card.” Putting his pen away, he continued, “If you do that, you will always find the way to communicate. Communicating is success.” With that, he drained his glass and I could tell I was dismissed. I gushed a bit more, shook his hand like it was a car-jack and I was away.

Floating back to my seat before reading what he had written on my card, it took me several moments to decipher his chicken-scratch by candle-light. When I did, it hit me like hammer and I went immediately sober, as I knew I’d be telling this story for the rest of my life.

It said, simply, “maybe, they’re right.”

I knew instantly that, for these words to be truly meaningful, I’d have to acknowledge that – in spite of conviction, passion and my aggressive personality – I’d have to consider that I am WRONG, even when I KNOW I’m RIGHT. And, “wrong” equates to “failure”… doesn’t it? How in the world could failing help me succeed? I’ve thought about this a lot, since then. As a result, I’ve since come to believe that the right and wrong of a thing isn’t as important as getting the maximum experience out of it. And, while both “right and “success” most often simply reinforce the stuff I already knew, being WRONG and FAILING always leads me down paths I may never have considered… even when I turn out to be “right,” after all.

Sometimes it can be confusing as to the right kind of action for a loved one. In our feelings of love for someone else we can become confused what to do. In order to make an ‘inner’ decision it is important to detach from the personality/physical self of another. When we think of love on the physical self level instead of the higher plane level it can form a very limiting bond between you and the person you are confused about. The only responsibility that you have is to yourself because if you take responsibility for another it becomes limiting for everyone involved. You can release the situation to the Universe knowing an answer of ease will come in return. Once you release it, see it as taken care and keep moving forward in your own life. Another will only have release in their own life according to where they are in their own thoughts. They are choosing their experience…not you. You can continue to create your own life and release any feelings that may hinder you. They are responsible for changing their circumstances, not you. Just be loving and accepting of who they are. They don’t need fixing. They are creating their life and even though it may not be what they (or you) want, accept the ‘being’ they are within.

A wonderful day full of turkey and all the trimmings! We have more family coming in today so we have a houseful! Guess I better get into the kitchen and cook breakfast. Have a wonderful day!

Today Mom and Dad celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary. It’s such a big day that our entire nation decided to honor them by having Thanksgiving on the same day, and not to be out done, Jerry Jones got involved and is hosting a Cowboys football game so that Dad can really have the perfect afternoon! (LOL) Yes, it truly is an anniversary to be thankful for!

Yesterday I had the privilege of watching Dad sign the anniversary card he gave Mom. I took a picture of the envelope so you could see his personalized message. Amazing how a few minutes and a few thoughts can turn a blank piece of paper into a treasure.

Here is Mom opening and reading the card.

What are you thankful for today? Take a few minutes and make a phone call or send a note to a friend or loved one and let them know what they mean to you.

Many people are Embracing their Struggles today, and for them a little extra love and encouragement from you might make all of the difference. We have some good friends, Michael and Brenda Pink, who are going through a health struggle right now. Would you remember Brenda in your prayers?

Thanks everyone from making this blog one of the most fulfilling things I do! If you want to leave Mom and Dad a happy anniversary greeting, just comment below and I will make sure they get it.
