REGIONAL GAS LEASES MAPPED

A new map depicting gas leases in counties adjoining Pike County, PA was recently presented to the Pike County Planning Commission by assistant county planning director Mike Mrozinski. The map is a collaborative effort by Wayne, Pike, and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Sullivan counties in New York, Sussex County in New Jersey, Common Waters and the Upper Delaware River Roundtable. The map aims to offer a regional view of the Upper Delaware watershed by identifying locations of leased parcels, as well as rivers, lakes and streams, but is not yet ready for public release.

THE CANADIAN PRESS

EDMONTON — With the puck nestled in the net and the crowd at Rexall Place roaring, Patrick O’Sullivan threw his arms in the air and looked skyward in a goal celebration that seemed equal parts relief and elation.

There was plenty of both to go around Wednesday as O’Sullivan scored just his second goal in 14 games to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a come-from-behind 6-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

O’Sullivan’s third-period winner snapped a four-game losing streak as the Oilers overcame a 4-2 deficit to open a five-game homestand with the kind of victory than can turn a season on a dime.

O’Sullivan and the Oilers could use some of that.

“It was 5-4 Oilers. That’s what I was thinking,” said O’Sullivan, asked about his animated celebration. “It was a game where we were down and had to come back. We haven’t done that as much as we’d like this season.

“It was a big goal, at home, too. On the road, you can’t really celebrate as much. Generally, for me, I don’t really celebrate much when I do score.”

While it wasn’t the way coach Pat Quinn drew it up, the win sends the Oilers into a game with the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday feeling a lot better about themselves after a 2-8-2 stretch.

Likewise O’Sullivan, who has struggled mightily to find his scoring touch since joining Edmonton at the trade deadline last March — his winner was just his fourth goal of this season and sixth in 41 games since coming over from the Los Angeles Kings.

“You want to contribute,” O’Sullivan said. “It’s more about that than me scoring.

“It’s a business. When things aren’t going well, there’s going to be people who are unhappy. This is serious. This isn’t for fun here, you know? It’s a job for us. When you win, you’re able to have fun at your job.”

O’Sullivan, 24, jumped on a loose puck pushed into the slot by Gilbert Brule and snapped it behind Colorado’s Peter Budaj. It capped a rally that saw the Oilers escape a fifth straight loss with four straight goals, by Sam Gagner, Ryan Potulny, O’Sullivan and Ales Hemsky, into an empty net.

“Sometimes when you’re playing good games, you don’t win,” said defenceman Steve Staios. “If you continue to play the right way, things will fall into place.

“We faced a little bit of adversity. There’s some nights where you maybe start to feel sorry for yourself and you pack it in. We, as a team, showed some resilience. Over a long season, those types of signs are what you’re looking for in building a good team. That’s a good step forward for us.”

After a 6-2-1 start, the Oilers hit the skids, in large part because of a flu bug that hit hard in combination with injuries to Staios, Sheldon Souray, Shawn Horcoff, Fernando Pisani, Ryan Stone, J.F. Jacques and Denis Grebeshkov.

Putting that 2-8-2 stretch behind and clawing back into a Western Conference playoff position is the challenge. Quinn hopes Wednesday is a start, but knows one gritty win doesn’t constitute a turnaround.

“What I seem to find right now is we take those little victories and get a little bit of self-satisfaction,” Quinn said. “I’ve said this before, we’re not mentally tough enough to get through those periods where we bend but don’t break. We’re breaking, and we’ve got to get to where we bend because it happens to every hockey team.”

At 9-10-3 for 21 points, the Oilers face a difficult stretch in which they complete this homestand against Chicago, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Jose before playing six straight games on the road.

“You’re always looking for something to build on that has a positive nature,” Quinn said. “When you’re a coach, a lot of times it’s easy to point to the negatives. You say, ‘We can’t do this any more,’ but you’ve also got to say, ‘Here’s where we did do it right.’ We’ve got to continue that.”

Notes: Captain Ethan Moreau, knocked out of Wednesday’s game in the second period by an unpenalized elbow to the jaw by Colorado’s Ryan Wilson, was experiencing headaches and dizziness Thursday and didn’t skate … Mike Comrie, in and out of the lineup with what was believed to be the effects of the flu complicated by asthma, has been diagnosed with mononucleosis.

Oilers’ Comrie struck by mononucleosisCopa del Rey round-up

• MARIO featuring Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett – “Break up” (I choose this song although it may be too street for some tastes…but the combination of flows made for an engaging journey into downtempo Rhythm & Beats aka R&B)
• Mary Mary featuring Kierra (KiKi) Sheard – “God In Me”
• Trey Songz featuring Drake – “Successful” (People like this dude Drake right now and Trey finally got some hits out this year beyond New York and ATL…This was a good second place mention)

ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR

• Michael Jackson

Since there weren’t any choices, it goes to Michael. It goes to him not because he was the best this year but because he died this year, let’s keep it real. This music industry is so politically inclined they couldn’t just say we are giving MJ the accolades we haven’t given out of guilt…maybe if more of us were supportive and loving toward one of the greatest to ever do it then maybe the people closer to him would have done more to protect and take care of him.

Looking forward to seeing who actually wins! Maybe the industry can take notes from the AMAs by giving awards based on sales and not politics since sales mean PEOPLE chose the winners! *Pardon me Grammys* but the voters are not necessarily in tune with the music…I’ll get on their case in another blog coming soon!

The Downtown Fashion Walk has been gaining a bit of momentum here in LA over the past few months. After launching in September, this fledgling event had a wobbly start with low attendance and a lack of direction. To be fair, it’s always tough to spearhead a new project, and I applaud the effort. I do everything I can to support my neighborhood from promoting to event coverage. It’s nice to see everyone’s hard work beginning to pay off a bit.

While Fashion Walk is far from brilliant, this month held a few more actual happenings than in months past. The usual map was passed around with the same boutiques doing nothing new, but The Alexandria Hotel kicked it up a notch by hosting a fashion show for Maggy Barry. Admission was open to the public and there were quite a few people on hand to check things out.

The format of the show was something they seem to have borrowed from Box Eight Studios. Instead of traditional runway style, there was a live photo shoot of the collection. So all of the pieces from the Spring/Summer 2010 collection were paraded in front of the camera, and an all-too cliche’ looking “fashion photographer” shot thousands of images. Normally I am very amiable with other photographers and I love to support others in my field. But when you’re a chubby middle aged man wearing a scarf and sunglasses inside WHILE you’re shooting, sagging your cargo pants with your big belly hanging out the front I feel comfortable shaking my head at your silliness. Guy was a bit too over the top for my taste with his Blow Up-esque methodology.

The atmosphere was fun, and I noticed quite a few people dressed in their finest fashion attire happy to be parading around at the show. Lots of fun styling, music and some hard to see visuals. Sushi was going around on trays carried by topless models provided by Naked Catering.

Here are some images from the evening.

WEST HAM fans have backed David Sullivan’s plan to take control at Upton Park.

Sullivan has promised to plough in £40million if he is allowed to run the club his way and Icelandic owners Straumur continue to honour their £120m debt.

Straumur are considering the take-it-or-leave-it offer. But Gordon Thrower, who runs Hammers fans’ website Knees Up Mother Brown, believes it is a good idea.

He said: “We need someone in charge other than Straumur. At the moment we are simply an asset waiting to be flogged.

“I have more money in my pocket than Straumur are willing to invest in the club right now.

“Like most fans, I’d have no problem with Sullivan taking over – if we didn’t end up stagnating like Birmingham.

“We’d also want assurances that his money would only be used to invest in the club and not help pay off the debts.

“We need someone who can take us to the next level where we are challenging regularly for a European spot. Sullivan could help us do that.

“It seems like the perfect solution for fans but I’m not sure the banks would see it that way.

“We have a lot of debt and I am not sure the banks would let someone come in and spend money on other things.

“Also, would Straumur’s creditors be so understanding about writing off half of their only meaningful asset?”

The Raptors are heading home and it’s not a moment too soon. Chris Bosh and the boys wrapped up a four-game trip tonight, falling 104-91 in Utah — their third straight loss after taking the opener against the Clippers last Friday.

This one had blowout written all over it early, as the Raptors started the way they finished Tuesday in Denver, falling behind by 18 in the first quarter. Bosh and Marco Belinelli helped Toronto claw its way back in, cutting the lead to one early in the fourth before the wheels fell off for the second straight night. Bosh finished with 32 points and 17 rebounds and Belinelli had his fourth straight double digit effort off the bench, scoring 19 on 7-of-14 shooting.

The most notable difference in this one was the point guard play. Jose Calderon wasn’t himself of late, going 4-of-14 and finishing with two assists and two turnovers. His counterpart, Deron Williams, ran all over him, scoring 22 and adding nine dimes. Carlos Boozer added 22 and 18 boards for the Jazz and Andrei Kirilenko had 20 points off the bench while sporting a fresh “new lesbian” hairstyle, as my man Sully Sullivan would say.

Another loss, but at least one that signals the end of hellish trip out west. After playing seven of the last eight on the road, the Raptors are home to face Miami Friday in the first of three at the ACC.

Read more: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2734836/Sullivan-I-want-Hammers-for-free.html#ixzz0XCqrgU8n

The former Birmingham City supremo stepped in with an astonishing take-it-or-leave-it offer to the Hammers’ cash-strapped owners.

Sullivan desperately wants to rescue his boyhood idols – but is not willing to shell out for a club that is sinking underneath crippling debts of at least £120million.

So he has told West Ham’s Icelandic owners Straumur he is willing to invest around £40m of his own money to help re-build the club – so long as they ship out and leave him in charge.

An insider explained: “Mr Sullivan is deadly serious about wanting to rescue the club.

“But West Ham’s debts are frightening and nobody in their right mind would take on such a nightmare.

“So he’s come up with an ingenious plan.

“He basically told Straumur: ‘I’ll turn this club round, I’ll make it profitable and healthy but only if you give me a 50 per cent stake right now and leave me to run the ship with my people’.

“He then wants Straumur to disappear and leave him to turn the club around.

“They’d still be responsible for the debt but he’d inject £40m re-building West Ham.

“None of that money would be wasted on re-paying bad debts.

“There is no room for negotiation. If they reject his plan he’ll look elsewhere.”

I like Andrew Sullivan. I really do. He’s a conservative, but much more in the Tory tradition

I like Andrew Sullivan. I really do. He’s a conservative, but much more in the Tory tradition than the current crop of lunatic tea-baggers out there who call themselves conservatives. I don’t agree with him on everything, but he is a good writer and entertaining.

Sadly, like all of us, he has his blind spots. His particular blind spots seem to mostly center around his religion (Catholic). He’s caught a bit of flack for it lately and seemed to feel the need to provide defense for religion.

One form of this defense is an article he posted up today talking about his experience running into a shoe shiner at the airport in Waco. The shiner was an older black man, in his sixties, roughly, who’d lived in Waco all his life and experienced the segregation and inequalities.

From the article:

I asked him how he survived. “Prayer,” he instantly replied. “I just prayed. We all prayed. We’re Christians and we prayed. Couldn’t have got through it without prayer. And prayer for them too.”

He meant, prayer for those who tormented him.

Sullivan accepts that as a good and touching statement and I suppose that it is, if you ignore the fact that the only reason this man had to deal with racism and torment like this was because of slavery. Slavery that was endorsed by the Bible and backed up by Sullivan’s Catholic Church.

To be fair to Sully he doesn’t buy into everything the Church says, and at times seems close to making a leap or two away from the Church, but he still doesn’t understand that for all the good religion brings into the world, it still brings in more suffering and pain. Yes, Martin Luther King, Jr, was a good man and the civil rights movement used religion to help free the people, but it was freeing them from a legacy of slavery backed up by religion. Yes, the Catholic Church helps the poor and hungry in Africa, but it keeps them poor and hungry by telling them not to use condoms or other forms of birth control.

I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

What, if anything, will happen to Jon Carnevale?

Carnevale threw a dangerous hit on Sarnia Sting defenseman Brent Sullivan at the six minute mark of the first period, prompting Slovak import Miroslav Preisinger to drop the gloves with the Ottawa 67s, forward.

Carnevale had to answer the bell in the second period as well, this time with rough and tumble forward Brett Appio.

The hit didn’t leave Sullivan any worse for wear. No stretcher. No separated shoulder. No shifts missed.

But the hit is sure to get a rise out of hockey followers in the wake of a season (and subsequently junior career-ending) suspension to Michael Liambas, a consequence of the non-illegal hit on 16-year-old Ben Fanelli of the Kitchener Rangers. Fanelli suffered a fractured skull and orbital bone.

OHL commissioner David Branch’s reaction was swift and harsh. Liambas will never suit up again for his Erie Otters.

“In the purest sense nobody is saying the hit was illegal, but it is our opinion the distance he traveled and the speed at which he chose to travel at did not demonstrate sufficient respect,” Branch said in a release.

It appears as though Carnevale didn’t demonstrate sufficient respect when hitting Sullivan, either. Some would go so far as to argue Carnevale’s hit on Sullivan was more malicious than that of Liambas on Fanelli. At worst, one would have to consider the hits on par.

But Sullivan didn’t get seriously injured.

And Branch likely wont address the hit.

My take on it is that it is enabling an industry to operate that is not compatible with protecting our environment.” Grimaldi also called on the DEC to give full disclosure as to the compilation of the SGEIS including “where the information came from and who was consulted” in creating the document. She also had documentation of an ecosystem having been destroyed on the border of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, by the chemicals used in the fracturing process.

An old-school columnist can write 800 brilliant words analyzing or commenting on, say, a new think-t

An old-school columnist can write 800 brilliant words analyzing or commenting on, say, a new think-tank report or scientific survey. But in reading it on paper, you have to take the columnist’s presentation of the material on faith, or be convinced by a brief quotation (which can always be misleading out of context). Online, a hyperlink to the original source transforms the experience. Yes, a few sentences of bloggy spin may not be as satisfying as a full column, but the ability to read the primary material instantly—in as careful or shallow a fashion as you choose—can add much greater context than anything on paper. Even a blogger’s chosen pull quote, unlike a columnist’s, can be effortlessly checked against the original. Now this innovation, pre-dating blogs but popularized by them, is increasingly central to mainstream journalism.

A successful blog therefore has to balance itself between a writer’s own take on the world and others. Some bloggers collect, or “aggregate,” other bloggers’ posts with dozens of quick links and minimalist opinion topspin: Glenn Reynolds at Instapundit does this for the right-of-center; Duncan Black at Eschaton does it for the left. Others are more eclectic, or aggregate links in a particular niche, or cater to a settled and knowledgeable reader base. A “blogroll” is an indicator of whom you respect enough to keep in your galaxy. For many years, I kept my reading and linking habits to a relatively small coterie of fellow political bloggers. In today’s blogosphere, to do this is to embrace marginality. I’ve since added links to religious blogs and literary ones and scientific ones and just plain weird ones. As the blogosphere has expanded beyond anyone’s capacity to absorb it, I’ve needed an assistant and interns to scour the Web for links and stories and photographs to respond to and think about. It’s a difficult balance, between your own interests and obsessions, and the knowledge, insight, and wit of others—but an immensely rich one. There are times, in fact, when a blogger feels less like a writer than an online disc jockey, mixing samples of tunes and generating new melodies through mashups while also making his own music. He is both artist and producer—and the beat always goes on.

Bron: Why I blog, Andrew Sullivan
http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200811/andrew-sullivan-why-i-blog

Alles is mogelijk. Je krijgt onbeperkte vrijheid die je volledig zelf kan invullen… Op mijn blog probeer ik ook zoveel mogelijk verschillende media te gebruiken om zo beter mijn gedachten over te brengen of juist een discussie te starten.
