10 Lessons Learned From Summer Lax 2011

1.Powernaps = Life Never underestimate the energy gained from a 30 minute sleep before going out after a day of games.

2.Never Say No Summer lax tournaments are about experiences and fun, probably even more so than the lacrosse, and this ensures it!

3.Expect First,Ask Questions Later Dementia induced damage killed our Rave Tent 1.0 at Bluesfest, don’t fall into the same trap.

4.Cards and Drinking Games These are massively important for long train journeys or days when its raining and people are bored.

5.Bring Lots and LOTS of Socks and Boxers You will got through them like crazy, bring way more than you expect to need. Accidents do happen, even though we don’t like to admit it.

6.House Boat > Apartment > Hostel Hostels are the easy option, but not the best option. House Boats in Amsterdam are amazing, much more space and freedom. If there are enough people in your party, then they are just as cheap as hostels.

7.Rollercoaster of Emotions You will live a rollercoaster of hatred and love. Expect it. Embrace it.

8.Streaking Wins You Friends JB will forever go down in history as “That Irish guy who streaked!”. More people should streak at lacrosse tournaments.

9.Dont Abuse Womens Referees Some people love to support women’s lacrosse. Some people love it so much that they get carried away and abuse the referees. They can even, get so carried away that they will continue to hurl abuse at the women’s referees in front of the head women’s referee and be asked to leave. Don’t do this. Ever.

10.Never Funnel/Beer Bong Your Own Hat Just a general bad idea.

AZ Girls Lacrosse announces summer ball

Your daughter can keep her stick skills sharp over the coming off-season, as AZ Girls Lacrosse, or AZGL, is announcing a new summer league.

Summer Ball begins on July 7 and runs through August 4, with leagues for under-15, under-16 (rising seniors) and 2011 high schools grads/post-collegiate players. The format of the league is similar to AZGL’s Fall Ball — teams will play a game a week with no practices. Game times are at night to beat the heat, and play will be at the brand new Salt River Fields facilities at Talking Stick in Scottsdale. Here’s some more information from the website:

• Cost: $85 (includes jersey)

• Where: Salt River Fields

• When: Every Thursday July 7- Aug. 4

• How to register: There are two registrations depending on your child’s age. If your daughter is in fifth through 12th grades or just graduated high school, you register here. If your daughter graduated high school in 2010, is in college currently, or post-collegiate, she will register here. There are only a limited number of spots available so it will be first come, first serve.

Game Times

U15 and Younger 7:30-9pm

U16 – Rising Seniors 8:30-10pm

High school grads-post-collegiate 8:30-10pm
