Here’s another batch of JE songs from the famous JE group NewS!

NewS consists of 9 members before debut, 8 members in debut, and 6 members in present. Interesting? I guess so. Composed of leader Yamashita Tomohisa (YamaPi), Masuda Takahisa, Koyama Keiichiro, Tegoshi Yuya, and Shigeaki Kato NewS is leading the jpop boy groups to another level. About how the members decresed in numbers, the other 3 members were Takahiro Moriuchi, Uchi Hiroki, and Kusano Hironori.

Before they debuted NewS was formed to be a volleyball support group and it wasn’t said that they would debut. NewS released their first pre-debut album named “NEWSニッポン” (NEWSNippon/NEWSJapan). Days prior to actually debuting member Takahiro Moriuchi, now known as Taka, dropped out from the group and the agency for educational reasons. Taka is now a member of the jrock group ONE OK ROCK. 2005 when Uchi was suspended for underaged drinking and 2006 when Kusano was accused of the same crime causing the actual group’s 6 month hiatus. NewS came back in 2007 with a concert tour to thank the fans for waiting for them with 6 members.

I forgot about how much adjustment most parrots need when moving to a warm weather place like Florida. My birds came from Saipan, which is pretty much like Florida but maybe more humid? Not sure. It’s pretty close…

I make sure that my parrots have plenty of water in the summer because it gets so darn hot, that even their water gets warm sometimes and I don’t know about them, but I know I hate drinking warm water. So it’s important to keep it cool for them and try to put it in the shade. I have a huge bowl I will fill and put at the bottom of their aviaries just in case it’s extra hot out.

I also try to keep a spray bottle handy to be able to mist them down if they start looking over heated. In aviaries it’s super important to have lots of water, and lots of shade so the bird isn’t forced to be in direct sunlight. You can also give fruit during the day because it gives the bird extra hydration from the juices in the fruit.

Other than that getting used to the new weather stage, my birds have done great here in Florida and are able to stay outside year round. They love the rain, and the fact that it rains every day really helps them cool down.

By the way, don’t forget to fall back one hour tonight. Unless you are lucky enough to live in Arizona or Hawaii. Or you are feeling particularly rebellious and want to extend summer time indefinitely! Do I sense a grassroots movement starting?

It’s over.  The  2009 baseball season has ended.  The last pitch has been thrown.

Well technically, there’s still the remainder of the ALCS and the World Series. For serious Reds fans, however, it was over when the regular season ended.

Not only did our season end, but George Grande, the Reds long time TV broadcaster, announced that his tenure, that began in 1993, would also be ending.  His career with the Reds was over.  He would not be returning in 2010.  Bummer.

With the end of baseball season comes the end of summer.  The Bible talks about “summer” coming to an end.

In the eighth chapter of the Book of Jeremiah we hear the Lord lamenting the fact that judgement has to fall on His own people for their continued disobedience.  And then suddenly in verse 20 we hear the collective voice of God’s people cry out that “the harvest  is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved!”

Mournfully they acknowledge that they have allowed a “season of grace”, an opportunity to receive God’s forgiveness and then His restoration, to pass foolishly by.

God would give them another opportunity but it would be at the end of 70 long years of captivity and humiliation.  “Summer-time” 2009 has come and gone.  Eternity will be a long hard winter.  But maybe there’s yet an opportunity.  Don’t let it  slip away.

Nothing like taking some time off to relax and let loose a bit.

Imagine having the opportunity to take a year to do whatever you wanted (Well, there are typically economic constraints). That’s exactly what my wife and I are doing this school year. I have to admit that I am enjoying the relatively stress free lifestyle. We all know how stressful being principal of a school can be. We are sharpening our saws.

I left Mont’Kiara in June and my family and I have been on vacation ever since. We’ve traveled around the United States to reconnect with family and friends. Aside from spending quality time with the family we’re using this time for our children to learn about life in the United States. We’ve been overseas for nine years to the kids have never lived here (aside from summer vacation).

We have completed the first phase of the trip and now we are settling in to spend the year living in Emerald Isle, NC. My wife and I plan to work on our new action plan. Our four focus areas are based on Covey’s four assumptions for life.

“For the body – assume you’ve had a heart attack; now live accordingly.

For the mind – assume that the half-life of your profession is two years; now prepare accordingly.

For the heart – assume that everything that you say about another, they can overhear; now speak accordingly.

For the spirit – assume you have a one-on-one visit with your Creator every quarter; now live accordingly.”

For the mind I plan to immerse myself building skills and knowledge that will help me lead for the future. I plan to work on several projects and expand my personal learning community. For someone who thrives on learning, this is going to be exciting.

So, I’m done with vacation and now ready actively participate online.

This summer I am working on getting through my list of books to read. It’s a good thing that my summer has been extended because I was way behind. Fortunately I was in the middle of Disrupting Class by Christensen, Horn and Johnson when I saw Scott McLeod’s presentation at NECC. Scott’s presentation got my into the spirit and the book really pushed my thinking on the role of technology in education. For years I have promoted the integration of technology into the classroom while the authors of Disrupting Class are now telling me that, “Teachers have implemented computers in the most common-sense way- to sustain their existing practices and pedogogies rather than displace them.” and that the real disruption will be with software-delivered instruction. There’s even a section entitled, “Cramming Computers in Schools”.

Sure, I’ve complained that too many educators “don’t get it”, “that it’s not happening fast enough, that the majority of uses of technology in the classroom is lame, and that we have to keep pushing this change in instructional tools. What has kept me going is that I have witnessed classrooms where the tools are making a difference in student learning.  My vision for schools was soundly based on the integration model and I truly believed that progress was essential and possible.

Christensen, Horn and Johnson are now laying out a new paradigm that is forcing me to step outside my comfort zone. They describe an educational system where…

• the classrooms are virtual and students are guided by software that is tailored to learning styles.
• the feedback to students will be immediate and they will not move ahead unless they have mastered the topic.
• the pace will be determined by the student’s needs
• the role of teachers will be to coach their students (many more students) during the various stages of learning.
• schools are organized, not geographically, but by students’ individual learning styles.

Can this really be true? Are companies like leArnin3.com and ALEKS on the cutting edge? Do I need to stop chanting the integration model mantra and start plugging software options?

I am going to seriously begin looking at how I can use their suggestions for school leaders.

“Use the right tools to introduce change….negotiation toward radical change simply won’t work.”

“Solve it (problems) by facilitating disruption.”

“each school should have one person – whose sole job is to implement online courses.”

“Don’t place artificial limits on what students can take online or what teachers can build online either…”

                                             A Plea, and a Prayer,,,

At the head of the hollow, in fair West Virginia ,sat Grandma’s house, neath a giant hickory tree,

A humble little dwelling, with chickens and a garden, a grape arbor, and her precious plum trees,

On each side of her house, her children built homes, so her grandchildren, always were near,

She raised food and flowers, and was the heart of her ‘clan’, surrounded, by all she held dear,

Her eyes touched our hearts, so we’d settle the fight, none could bear to hurt Grandma, that way,

Those words were oft spoken, and we’d try to oblige, but the meaning, of her words passed us by,

“Play pretty children”, was a mystery to us all, but her demeanor, made us give it a try,

It was many years later, before her sweet words, were finally understood, by me,

About the same time, my two darling daughters, were old enough, to disagree,

“Play pretty children”,slipped from my lips, and I at last understood, the mystery,

It’s a plea and a prayer, from the ‘ Heart ‘ of the clan, that the children, all live peacefully,

With each passing year, the depth of those words, lay heavy, on this Grandmas heart,

So I’ve shared them with you, so you may agree too, this plea, and this prayer to impart.
