Hi everyone, I have a reason to share another post with you and its another blissful moment which strikes the right cord in my life.

We(Nachi, Peri and me) were dazed to witness a mail from Sandra Davis, Technical Engineer, Sun Microsystems Inc. stating that she absolutely LOVED our paper on ‘Enhancing portable Environment using Cloud and Grid’ and has asked us to keep the good work on and write more about Technology. Sandra has also quoted that

I absolutely LOVE the article on cloud computing! It is easy to understand and really sparked my interest to learn more about this technology! I would like to see more articles written by you.

The words from Sandra Davis has impelled us and we are proud that we have done something which has been useful for someone who is gaining knowledge out of it. When we finished implementing our project we received flak reviews and i wrote it in my previous post ‘Efforts in Vain’ where i would have mentioned about how hard it was to get such a review from people who doesn’t know what Cloud Computing and Grid Computing deserves.

Some people hurled our project by just saying this has been already implemented by someone else. We thought our 4 months efforts were in vain, but now we are elated about the mail sent by Sandra. Thus Cloud and Grid kept our hopes alive!

Cloud and Grid Rocks!!

El Rey brought me (after our debates and me acting like a child) to Low Yat to buy myself a netbook. A small 10 inch portable PC enough to run word-related programs.
Well to me, it is not that important to get the latest technology (although it’ll be nice to have) because all I’m using it for is to surf the net, talk on MSN and just keep writing. Also, it’s small and lightweight enough to carry around in my handbag so I dont have to bring another bulky laptop bag everywhere I go.

So far, it’s been great and that I have no trouble with the small QWERTY keyboard. Although, I might have to get used to the small backspace and Enter buttons on the sides. I always miss those.

So I’m trying to download Open Office from Sun Microsystems for FREE so I don’t have to buy Microsoft Word etc. Open Office is 100% compatible with Microsoft Word and can do everything that Word can do and more!

And I got the go ahead to adopt another cat! This is for the company of Puddie. IK, you owe us so much, if you’re reading this. So study harder!

Win – WIn – Win situation for me.

Also just to let you guys know that I have the best husband ever. EEEEVVVEEERRRR…

Thanks babe!

Ups… siapa tuh? Eh, ternyata pak Pos, bawa kiriman buatku. Apa ya? Ternyata, commercial sample Open Solaris 2009. Buka bungkusnya, ternyata Open Solaris 2009.06 versi LiveCD.

Open Solaris 2009.06

Dan baru malam ini dicoba… hasilnya, sbb:

Desktop: berbasis Gnome, sama seperti Linux (Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu, dll)

Oracle CEO to IBM, HP: Don’t Get Your Hopes Up. We’re Keeping Sun’s Hardware.

by John Paczkowski
Posted on May 8, 2009 at 4:55 AM PT

Larry Ellison’s got some news for skeptics predicting Oracle will dump the Sun Microsystems hardware business when its $7.4 billion acquisition of the company closes: It’s not gonna happen. In an interview with Reuters subsequently filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Oracle CEO said he plans to maintain that part of Sun’s business. “We are definitely not going to exit the hardware business,” Ellison explained. “While most hardware businesses are low-margin, companies like Apple and Cisco enjoy very high-margins because they do a good job of designing their hardware and software to work together. If a company designs both hardware and software, it can build much better systems than if they only design the software. That’s why Apple’s iPhone is so much better than Microsoft phones.”Zing.

Ellison went on to note that Oracle has big plans for Sun’s SPARC chips as well. “Once we own Sun we’re going to increase the investment in SPARC,” he said. “We think designing our own chips is very, very important. Even Apple is designing its own chips these days. Right now, SPARC chips do some things better than Intel chips and vice-versa. For example, SPARC is much more energy efficient than Intel while delivering the same performance on a per socket basis. This is not just a green issue, it’s an economic issue. Today, database centers are paying as much for electricity to run their computers as they pay to buy their computers. SPARC machines are much less expensive to run than Intel machines….our primary reason for designing our own chips is to build computers with the very best performance, reliability and security available in the market. Some system features work much better if they are implemented in silicon rather than software. Once we own Sun, we’ll be able to plan and synchronize new features from silicon to software, just like IBM and the other big system suppliers. We want to work with Fujitsu to design advanced features into the SPARC microprocessor aimed at improving Oracle database performance. In my opinion, this will enable SPARC Solaris open-system mainframes and servers to challenge IBM’s dominance in the data center. Sun was very successful for a very long time selling computer systems based on the SPARC chip and the Solaris operating system. Now, with the added power of integrated Oracle software, we think they can be again.”

Oracle’s (ORCL) intentions for Sun’s (JAVA) hardware business come as great news for engineers worried they might lose their jobs as a result of Oracle’s surprise acquisition of the company. Bad news for rivals like Dell (DELL), Hewlett Packard (HPQ), and IBM (IBM), though. Having Oracle out there in the market peddling an integrated hardware and software solution is going to make their lives more difficult.

Things have been pretty busy for us here at Taazza, more people on-board (announcements in a few) and loads of work. But the workhorse that is helping do all the work is Hanuman, the SUN machine(x4150) that has been gracefully given to us by SUN Microsystems. For those who don’t know Hanuman, he is a character from the Indian Mythology who personifies strength, belief & the will to accomplish things, something we expect from our server

I have pleasant memories of SUN Microsystems, as it was the first UNIX machine that I started my career with. They bring strong R & D experience and support to our organization. I would like to thank Bakshish Dutta of SUN Startup Essentials for making this happen. They have been an invaluable partner and have been helpful in getting us started.

And trust me we are putting Hanuman’s strength to good use Our Hadoop clusters, crawlers are pounding the server pretty good.

The churn has begun.. Interesting times ahead

Looking forward to a great partnership with SUN!

Hanuman took a great ride home from the shipping center (Indian style). I leave you with some pictures of his journey.
