Eddie and the crew stopped by the FR*A Halloween Bash at Club Nokia this past Friday. We ran around backstage and saw some awesome acts. Eddie had a chance to interview some of your favorite celebs who were there to have a good time, but also to raise money and awareness of the tragedy going on in the South Pacific this typhoon season.

The Rockaz performed “Can’t Make It Alone” a song that they wrote specifically for the victims of Typhoon Ondoy. Highlights: We fall in love with YouTube sensation David Choi all over again, Kaba Modern “kilt it” and Macy Gray hit up the 1’s and 2’s.  Hotties Ron Artest and Sung Kang came out to show their support for the cause.

No, they’re not closing down!

If you’re a mobile broadband user and own an Android or iPhone you have surely tried out Spotify Mobile.

Spotify mobile brings us 4,825,130 tracks (as of 2nd October 09) right to our very pockets, with the key ability of being able to listen to playlists offline – great if you’re on the move with your favourite playlist and lose wi-fi connection.

Spotify announced yesterday that they are bringing this cool little feature to our computers for premium users, another great reason to sign up and support them. People using this feature will be allowed to sync 3,333 tracks to their computer, allowing them to listen to anyone of these tracks without needing to be online.

There seemed to be a lot of out-cry from free users when this was announced, but personally I like to see this as a bonus to people who are already paying for the service.

Spotify is still 100% optionally free for the computer, and none of the premium advantages are extremely essential. The only one that might come near being essential is the mobile version, but this is more than worth the £10 per month. Since Spotify was launched they have only made it better and better, with free accounts remaining exactly the same.

With Spotify taking on paypal payments recently, it’s becoming easier and easier to access the premium service and the mind blowing 5 million songs in your pocket.

To sync your play list, you can either left click the playlist and find the on/off button in the top right corner, or right click the playlist itself and click ‘Available Offline’.

THE proud parents of Scots MOBO songstress Emeli Sande said they always had faith their “little girl” would make it big in music – before watching her perform before a TV audience of millions last night.

Thrilled Diane and Joel Sande travelled down from the family home in Alford, Aberdeenshire last night (Wed) to watch their daughter perform on stage at the SECC in Glasgow with rapper Chipmunk.

And whilst for many this is just the start of the talented singer’s career, for her parents it is the result of many years hard work.

It culminated in last night’s performance of Diamond Rings, written by the talented Scots student, and nominated for Best Song.

Diane, 48, said: “She has worked very hard for the last few years to get here. Not only does she put all the effort into her music, but she manages to juggle it with her studies as well.”

The 22-year-old is a full-time student at Glasgow University in her fourth year of medicine and manages to make time for both her work and her music.

Diane said: “We’re very pleased that she has decided to keep on at her studies, her degree is very important to us as a family.

“But equally I said to her when she left to go to university that she needed to make time for her music.

“Balance out”

“Writing and performing is a passion for her and I think it’s helpful for her to have these two very different things in her life.

“They balance each other out.

“She’s said that she’s met a lot of other people on her course who have very creative hobbies so it must be a common combination.”

Her two biggest fans – who will always know their “little girl” by her real name Adele – aren’t putting too much emphasis on the Best Song gong as the performance means more to them.

“Icing on the cake”

Speaking before the awards last night (Weds) Joel Sande said: “The award doesn’t matter so much, everyone will see her performing on the stage and hear her music.

“That is the most important thing out of everything.”

And proud mum Diane added: “It doesn’t matter if she wins or not. Performing at the Mobos is the most exciting part of the experience, if Diamond Rings wins the award then that would be the icing on the cake.”

And the couple are taking their daughter’s rise to fame in their stride, pragmatically saying that it is “what she deserves”.

Regulars at her gigs up and down the country, they chat away to musicians and writers from EMI – who Emeli has a publishing deal with – and rappers and producers who work with their daughter.

“Better than them”

But it seems natural to them as they have always had confidence in Emeli’s talent.

Joel said: “It is good that she is getting recognition now after all the work she has put in.

“We used to sit and watch other people getting signed up and performing and I would think ‘My Adele is better than them’.

“And now everyone has noticed how good she is. Music has always been important to her and to us as a family.”

Although her father teaches Technology at her old school – Alford Academy – he also set up the school choir in which Emeli was a founding member.

“Bit odd”

The rap song that has brought her success is quite different from the soul music she writes for herself and it took her family some time to get used to it.

Joel said: “Diamond Rings is a very catchy song but when she first sent it up to us to listen to we thought it was a bit odd.

“It grows on you – I think everyone thinks that about it.”

Whatever happens in the future, Diane and Joel will be behind her 100 per cent, and fully intend to be standing at the back cheering on their daughter at as many performances they can make.

Diane: “We are always very proud of her. So much has happened for her recently and she deserves everything she is getting.”

Robert Mitchum Night of the Hunter (1955)

 

The Night of the Hunter is a 1955 film noir film directed by Charles Laughton and starring Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters . The film is based on the novel of the same name by Davis Grubb, adapted for the screen by James Agee and Laughton. The novel and film draw on the true story of Harry Powers, hanged in 1932 for the murders of two widows and three children in Clarksburg, West Virginia. The film’s lyric and expressionistic style sets it apart from almost all other Hollywood films of the 1940s and 50s, and has influenced later directors such as David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, Terrence Malick, and the Coen Brothers. In 1992, The Night of the Hunter was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in their National Film Registry.

The film resulted from a collaboration between Charles Laughton and screenwriter James Agee. Laughton drew heavily on the harsh, angular look of German expressionist films of the 1920s.

The film’s music, composed and arranged by Walter Schumann in close association with Laughton, features a combination of nostalgic and expressionistic orchestral passages. The film also includes two original songs by Schumann, “Lullaby” (sung by Kitty White, whom Schumann personally discovered in a nightclub) and “Pretty Fly” (originally sung by Sally Jane Bruce as Pearl, but later dubbed by an actress named Betty Benson). A recurring musical device involves the preacher making his presence known by singing the traditional hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms.” Mitchum also recorded the soundtrack version of the hymn.

So Sunday is a lazie day.  It was raining when I woke up at nine and glanced out the window, you could hardlie tell it was day time.  So I got up to eat a brownie and killed the last of the milk.  ( I was hungrie)  And then I went back to bed, which is what any self respecting person would do on a Sunday like that.  I woke up again around noonish and laid in bed copying my recipes into my new recipe book, checking out facebook and catching up on FailBlog.

I also paged through the entiretie of the IKEA catalog that came in the mail a few days ago.  I know I shouldn’t, but I can’t help but love those Swedish bastards.  The point is though that around 1-1:30 I was starving and got out of bed to make my self some waffles.  I’m not know for my sartorial elegance and it just so happens that on days when I’m not doing much and I’m alone in my locked apartment I like to do without the fripperie and frills that normallie grace my appearance.  (I was naked.)

I had poured my batter onto the waffle iron and flopped down on my bed to check my new IMs when I heard a noise.  It sounded like a key in the lock, but that couldn’t be.  Maintenance always knocks first, and so do the RAs and other assorted autoritie figures the door knob turns.  I leap from my bed my first instict being to see who the hell is breaking into my apartment (with a key?).  My second instinct however quicklie overtook the first and that was to not greet someone who had a key to my apartment in my birthday suit.  So I tossed on the first available clothes and stumbled into the living room.

I was greeted by Chaka, my new roomate (which Drexel had not seen fit to tell me about), her mother, her aunt and her grandmother.  It’s not the best first impression, I believe they thought I had been having sex, but when no mysterious person emerged from my room, I have no idea what they thought.  Except that the grandmother thinks I’m messie and that my apartment smells.  Ah first impressions…

Still I was immenslie cheered up when my real roomie decided to come visit her apartment.  We were chatting down stairs with Kelsey when Kimmie showed up and the whole mess of us came back here for Brownies.  Nancy had brought milk.  (WHooHoo!)

Later Sung came up and Kimmie, Nance, Sung and I snuggled up on Cloud to examine the internets and compare our compatibilie on OkCupid.  We also oogled Nance’s naughtie pics.  She’s soooooo tan.  Then Kimmie left and we ordered Jake’s for dinner… you reallie can’t go wrong there.  And settled in to watch a movie.

Nancy chose the movie and while it was a good movie, she is banned from ever chosing the movie again.  P.S. Watch Green Street Hooligans.  lovelie.

So it was a weekend of new roomates and nuditie and nude roomates… What more could a girl ask for?

Dae-sung and Seung-ri, two members of the K-pop sensation Big Bang will star in the autobiographical musical “Shouting,” to be staged in August. The musical will tell the story of two young boys who make their dreams of becoming singers come true despite challenges along the way.

It is the second musical for both members. Seung-ri previously played a leading role in “Sonagi,” a stage adaptation of the popular novel of the same name, while Dae-sung made his musical debut through the Korean version of “Cats” last year.

“I feel a little burdened as far as my singing and acting goes since this will be a big-scale show, but I will do my best,” said Seungri at a recent press conference in Seoul.

Dae-sung, meanwhile, said: “I am also a little bit nervous because it is my first acting role with actual lines – I only sang and danced through the role of Rum Tum Tuger in ‘Cats.’ I will try to improve my acting through the show.”

A jukebox musical, the show will feature Big Bang’s hit tunes including “Bulgeunnoeul (Red Glowing Sky)” as well as some composed specifically for the show.

The concert-like format was adopted to make it more approachable for Big Bang’s fans, who are mostly teenagers.

“Currently, most musical-goers are in their 20s and 30s. Producing musicals for teenagers, we can tap a niche market and nurture future musical audiences at the same time,” said a spokesperson for Seol & Company, which co-produced the show with YG Entertainment.

Musical actors Hong Ji-min and Joo Won-sung will perform with Dae-sung and Seung-ri. Other Big Bang members will also make cameo appearances.

“Shouting” will be staged Aug. 12-23 at Chungmu Arts Hall in Heungin-dong, Seoul.
