I’ve posted this photograph before in color. Felt it looked better in Black and White. The mysterious light formation seemed almost as if it was there for a reason….

Last week I created a series of new product on zazzle using another photo from one of my hikes in the snow last winter. In this photo the pale blue winter sky is visible through the forest canopy, as the sun’s rays stream through the evergreens. Glistening drops of melting snow fall through the air toward the ferny forest floor covered in a light dusting of snow.

Last week I used this photo to make some new products on zazzle. This is one of my favorite photos –I love how as the early morning sun bursts through the trees, illuminating the forest with its heavenly glow, silhouettes of branches and leaves create a semblance of a stained glass window. It also reminded me this last week a bit of the Christmas star, so I thought it would make a nice photo card for Christmas.

This awesome photo was taken in the Western Caribbean, while on our Cruise.  

The clouds were just beautiful with the sunrays streaming from them!

These Canadian Geese were drinking along the side of the thawing river bank.  

Their reflection is awesome and makes me think about how beautiful life is!

This Beautiful Mute Swan was at Twin Lakes, Greensburg, PA.

She and her mate seemed very happy to send their summer here! 

She is a real beauty!

Into the Sea by heinali

In my mind and hoping …

I’m stepping onto the sand barefooted and it’s hot but not unbearable. I can feel the pebbles between my toes and feel the smaller ones sliding underneath my weight causing me to fall deeper into the depth of the beach.

The sun rays are gracing my back and the air is a comforting mixture of warm and cool from the water. Closing my eyes I concentrate on the  smell of the salt … almost like one could taste it when you breathe in but it’s not at all like table salt … I think it’s different this time. The coolness isn’t like winter it’s like … a breeze with water on top of it.

Looking down I see bubbles from the waves splashing onto the banks of the earth … like foam … I want to put my feet in.

So I do … and it’s a cold shock since the warmth of the sun contrasts it but it’s welcoming.

The waves lap against my legs and I slowly become used to it and I’ll stay there for a long time smelling the air and feeling the sun.

At least this is what I imagine … and hope.

Sigur Rós – Starálfur by Sigur Rós

Her glow draws out the chocolate brown specks from my iris and my pupils dilate to adjust to her mystical show. Photoreceptor cells converting light into images I admit I  cannot turn away. She’s beautiful … and I stand in awe of her glory.

The optic nerves transmits the visual information from my eyes to my brain and I stand still as if moving would change everything I am witness to. I know she sees me watching her and she doesn’t disappoint. She continues to swell into the horizon and I watch as her gown changes color. Her oranges and reds sweep across the plains of her playground contrasting the greens and yellows.

I embrace her warmth and hold onto it as hard as I can. I let her fill me up and my face turns up to meet her gaze. I love the world from her viewpoint. Where I am standing everything seems to be as it should be.

Peaceful.

Whole.

I’ve been searching for a rainbow since 2004 when i got my camera…yesterday August 20th  my grand daughter chrissy had a baby girl…Issabella Jean…and a double rainbow came within a hour of her birth over our house…..

09 Glass In Lullabies by fidge

The memories come back like waves casting me back in time. The memories of you are warm.

I remember intricacies like the way the grass blade felt when I ran the tips of my fingers over it. At the same time I remember the way you smiled at me and the sun rays celebrated this by dancing through the leaves casting shadows on the grass and ourselves.We sat there for the whole afternoon and into the evening barely speaking yet hearing each other just the same.

I remember driving through a wet fog with you to calm your nerves. At the same time I remember how petrified you were and then I squeezed your hand and told you it would be alright and over before you knew it. You were so scared. So I gave you a photo of us and a silly compilation of music that you made for me that I would play when you were gone. You called it “thieving serendipity” because you knew my love of that word but you didn’t believe in it. You always told me that you just knew we were to be together and that serendipity didn’t have “a damn thing to do with it”. I used to get so mad at you for saying that to me of all people. You used to tell me my dreams was what kept you beside me. So with all that in mind I packed it for you.

I remember the feel of your wool sweater as I hugged you. It was the end of summer almost fall. Our favorite time of year because of the way the sun seemed to shine a different shade of orange in the evening and it made the leaves glimmer a burnt orange. You were so soft and I can still smell the way your cologne melded with the wool.

I remember the warmth of my “sweets coffee” that you bought for me.The smell of the sugar and cream as it permeated through the styrofoam was familiar and strange at the same time. Some how you always got that balance right for me knowing that I disdained anything bitter. You called me spoiled but you always brought me the same cup filled with the same mixture of beans and liquid at “just the right shade of brown”.

I remember the way I froze when I saw the plane take off…my breath held in my chest until you were a small dot in the sky. And then you were gone. I feel as if I’m still holding my breath waiting for you to come back. Somehow, over the years the numbness has taken over and it’s taken on a band-aid like quality barely holding me together.

And so it is … I’ll keep these memories with me down here and you dance up there until we meet again.

I’ve always been fascinated by clouds,
they’re so beautiful as they race across the sky.
Location: Ayden, NC. Stretch of nothingness by a cemetery.
Settings: f/22…I never remember shutter speed,
I’ll start recording them from now on…
Description:
So yeah, I love clouds, always have. Just looked
out at the horizon when I was leaving a graveyard and
couldn’t stop admiring the way the sky looked at the moment.
You can kind of see it in the photo, but the way
the sunlight was piercing the sky through the big,
fluffy clouds…it was very idyllic. Made me want to go
and lie down in the middle of that field and sleep for
hours…but yeah, a nice photo in my opinion.
I also need a tripod :/

Protect Your Skin From Sunburn with the Proper SPF Sun Treatment.

Skin Cancer is highly preventable and unfortunately, not prevented often enough.  Daily use of proper sunscreen products will reduce your chances of developing skin cancer.  Always select a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher, that blocks damaging sunrays, is simply to apply so that you ‘use it’ daily.  A good sunscreen should be broad-spectrum – protecting your skin from UVB and UVA rays.

SPF seems to confound many – it means the ‘sun protection factor’ and compares the time needed to produce sunburn on protected skin verses the time to cause sunburn on unprotected skin.  SPF protection does not increase proportionally with the SPF Rating.  Here is an example:

• SPF 15 = Screens out 93% of Sunburn damage.
• SPF 30 = Screens out 97%…
• SPF 70 = Screens out only 98.6%…

I recommend a lip balm with SPF 15 and a Sunscreen of 15 to 30 SPF.  You can use a tinted lip balm under a gloss if you’d like in the summer (instead of lipstick and gloss).

Be aware that water resistant sunscreen’s need to be reapplied every 40 minutes and even Mary Kay’s SPF 30 Sunscreen (very water resistant) should be applied every 80 minutes while in the water.

Typically, use 1 oz of sunscreen to protect your body.  So think in terms of a 12 Oz. sunscreen for 12 applications.  Be sure to apply sunscreen to all exposed areas and pay special attention to your face, ears, hands, and arms.

PS – I would love your feedback and comments. What do you do to protect your skin? Other ideas? I use Mary Kay’s SPF 30 – waterproof and tinted lip balms; however, there are a multitude of great solutions.
