This was on the Living Legends Stop, Look & Listen
VHS tape, which came out in 2000.
If anyone remembers that Beats and Lyrics
compilation, this song was on there.
The video itself was filmed in the infamous Outhouse,
the Living Legends’ compound during their
dirt hustlin’ 4-track days. Classic ish.

No new cd reviews today. Just me talking about whatever i got to say about these albums that i listen to. Didn’t get any new albums (yet). So i guess i’ll be talking about recent other purchases. I’m hoping to find some new releases tomorrow in my BOX. For now im gonne do some talking about ; Dj Mitsu The Beats / Sunspot Jonz and Thavius Beck.

I’v been listening to alot of music lately. And i really must say, iv come across alot of artists that i never heard before. So when i decide to do this blog i didn’t want to only just review new released albums. So right now im doing 3 “oldies”. Starting off with a favourite of mine, “DJ Mitsu The Beats – A Word Of The Wise”. I never heard any album from him before. I might have ?! I don’t know. But this cd is very nice. With features from, Kev Brown, Georgia Ann Muldrow and Elzhi, it’s a good album. Some nice instrumental tracks on there. Production wise it’s a nice piece of work. Worth your money. Picked this cd up couple of months back, and felt like it could use some more exposure.

Number 2, will be, “Sunspot Jonz – Never Surrender”. At this moment im even listening to this cd. I really like it. It’s from 2008. Picked it up, i guess a few weeks ago. Started listening this week. And i really like the production on this album. Really funky beats. I wouldn’t say this is music from 2008 though. Not in a bad way. But it’s sometimes very oldschool. Like 90’s. So i like his versatile rap flow/beats. I would recommend this MF DOOM or Moka Only fans. It’s not like them, but somehow i think THEY like it. One feature with Gift Of Gab on there, wich we talked about yesterday.

Trés, “Thavius Beck – Dialogue”. This album blew my mind today. Damn this is some hardcore shit. Not all tracks are GREAT. But alot of this is awesome. Glitch-hop ? Am i saying that right ? I don’t know how to label this. Some of it sounds a little like Flying Lotus. The beats on it a real raw, and real “experimental” in my opinion. I got a couple of more Thavius Beck / Adlib albums. They all are awesome. I’m really looking forward to listening to these other albums.

Sunspot Jonz presents Fight-Destroy-Rock in the spirit of UHB! Fight-Destroy-Rock! (aka UHB6) features guest appearances by Luckyiam & Myka9, Equipto, White Mic, & Kwanz (from Bored Stiff), Z-Man, Hymnself, Moka Only, & DWP.

And here’s what Sunspot wrote about this project: “This is that raw underground shit! It’s that “straight out the house” mix like old four track songs in the early UHB days. Who knows about “Unsigned and Hella Broke”!! Like back in the day when I would be at the outhouse and would mix songs down on my lil tv speakers and then hit the block slanging out the box. That was that real underground shit!! Where you take the bus to some place and ya broke and have to sell ya albums or you had no money to get back home-or even eat lunch. It sucked if it went bad sometimes but Fuck a 9-5! It was all about creating a grind and making that shit pop! That was that really “really”-ya know! On this project I used a fucked up microphone, my mpc, the 1680, and my janky ass protools that kept breaking sometimes for months (thats why I had to revert to the 1680) but still I made some great songs through it all. That true hip hop!! I wanted to bring back that old school underground passion that can’t always be recaptured in a big studio but always shows up in a smaller home studio. Like the “Sunnyside Halfway House” in LA , California which always has a host of characters coming through its doors with blunts and bottles in their hands. So strap in and get ready for the ride — now sometimes the sound is gonna jump up, overdubbs are too low too loud, people making noise walking in with bottles of alcohol whatever — you never know. That’s that raw shit!! KEEP THE UNDERGROUND ALIVE !! SPEAK FROM THE HEART OR DIE!!”

Hier j’ai parlé d’un collectif de hip-hop canadien (Sweatshop Union), celui dont je vous parle aujourd’hui viens des USA, de californie plus précisément.

Les Living Legends ont sorti en avril dernier un très court album durant a peine plus d’une demi-heure. Ya des bons beats mais c’est surtout le flow des rappeurs tels que Murs, The Grouch, Luckyiam ou Aesop (ne pas confondre avec Aesop Rock) qui est remarquable.. C’est pas top top comme album mais un bel effort quand même. Quelqu’un a un meilleur album des Living Legends à me proposer?
