<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>　香港に住んでいたとき、「シュウェップス」ブランドの炭酸飲料をよく飲んだ。高温多湿の気候では、なぜかスカッとした炭酸水が飲みたくなる。せっかく外国にいるのだから、日本の飲料メーカーのものは避けたいと思っていたところ、洒落たラベルのこの銘柄が目に付いた。</p>
<p>そのシュウェップス社、正式名オレンジーナ・シュウェップス・グループが、驚くことにこのほどサントリーホールディングス社に買収され、なんと「日本製」のジュースとなってしまった。ネットニュースによれば、買収額は約26億ユーロ、日本円にすれば3000億円を越える金額で、かなりの大型な取引だったようだ。</p>
<p>　この清涼飲料水メーカーは買収前にヨーロッパ大陸内のみならず、世界60カ国以上に販路を拡大していた。08年の総売上高は約1383億円。どの国にも国内に飲料メーカーがあるだろうに、これだけ売れているというのは、民族、人種を超えて魅力的な味を提供しているためであろう。</p>
<p>たしかに主力商品の炭酸系シュウェップスに限らず、果汁ドリンクの「オアシス」「トリーナ」と品ぞろえも豊富で、私自身の香港時代の印象では、味も悪くなかった。ハイキングやテニスで汗まみれになったあとに、冷たくしたこの飲料は心も体もリフレッシュさせてくれたものだ。</p>
<p>　サントリー社は、これまでもヨーロッパでのビジネスに積極的だった。1983年にフランス・ボルドーの名門ワイン会社「シャトーラグランジュ」を買収したのを手始めに、コニャックメーカー「ルイ・ロワイエ社」、英国ではウイスキー会社「モリソン・ボウモア社」の経営権を取得し、すでに酒類の世界で確固たる地歩を築いてきた。</p>
<p>これらのヨーロッパ銘酒は当然、日本にも入る。サントリーと言われて、すぐに「ダルマ」「角瓶」「純生」しか思い出せない世代からすると、昨今の豊富な酒類、飲料のレパートリーに感嘆するしかない。（日暮らし）</p>

<p>You probably recognize the above quote from the 2003 film <em>Lost in Translation</em> starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. Around that time, <a href="http://www.suntory.com/yamazaki/main.html" target="_blank">Suntory </a>was still best known for its melon liqueur, <a href="http://www.midori-world.com/" target="_blank">Midori</a>, but over the past few years, its single malt whisky, Yamazaki, has infiltrated U.S. shores and quietly stolen the hearts of many a scotch drinker. Yamazaki 12 year and 18 year, both prize-winning in blind tastings, are made at Japan&#8217;s oldest distillery, founded by Scotland-educated Shinjiro Torii in 1923. Created with the level of craftsmanship the Japanese are known for, the whisky is aged in Japanese, American, and Spanish oak casks, lending a full-bodied flavor and silky smooth finish.</p>
<p>Over the past year, many of NYC&#8217;s best-known cocktail bars have featured drinks made with Yamazaki, such as the &#8220;Gold Rush&#8221; at <a href="http://www.goldbarnewyork.com/" target="_blank">Goldbar </a>and the &#8220;Murray Sour&#8221; at <a href="http://www.minettatavernny.com/" target="_blank">Minetta Tavern</a>. This is mainly due to the work of Gardner Dunn, North American Brand Ambassador for Suntory Whisky.</p>
<p>Gardner, a mixologist who is as recognized for his creative cocktails as his off-kilter hairstyle, travels around the country for several days (if not weeks) every month. He says he&#8217;s seeing a younger crowd show interest in the brand. &#8220;Scotch used to be a status symbol, something your dad drank,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Now I&#8217;m seeing younger people wanting to try new stuff. They&#8217;re interested in hearing about the distillation and the history.&#8221;</p>
<p>Gardner recently got an advanced course on all things Yamazaki when he traveled to the Suntory distillery on the outskirts of Kyoto, a location chosen for its water source. The Vale of Yamazaki, hailed by famous master of the tea ceremony, Senno Rikyu, is legendary for its pure water. Inspired by the art of Japanese bartening, which includes techniques such as ice ball carving and the hard shake, Gardner set out to gather Japanese bartending tools to show to the many skilled bartenders he&#8217;s met stateside. He&#8217;s put together a &#8220;Godzilla Kit,&#8221; with tools including crystal mixing glasses with a lip, bar spoons with forks on the opposite end, and Japanese jiggers, which have a thinner and deeper design and more balanced weight than standard jiggers.</p>
<p>The Godzilla Kits are just one bonus in what is turning out to be an exciting year for Suntory. Later this month, the hotly-anticipated Hibiki 12-year blended whisky (aged in plum liqueur casks and filtered through bamboo charcoal) hits shelves in NYC and California, its first debut stateside.  Also, just in time for the holidays, a limited edition of 300 bottles of 1984 Yamazaki will be released, for $550-$650 a pop.</p>
<p>Gardner says he finds himself crafting cocktails less and less and carving ice balls more and more as he focuses on educating people everywhere about the history and philosophy behind Suntory. &#8220;Cocktails are not the goal [for Yamazaki], but it does mix very well,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It doesn&#8217;t have a lot of heat, but it has honey overtones that pair well with other spirits.&#8221;</p>

<p>Su estilo es muy emocional y personalmente, me transmite cierta nostalgia hacia un pasado mejor.</p>

<p>El creador de estas masconesas es un animador llamado <a href="http://www.hikone-st.co.jp" target="_blank"><strong>Norio Hikone</strong></a>. Su estilo es muy minimalista, así como sus personajes. Creo que incluso se realizo una película de animación en 1986 con los personajes del espot, aunque este último dato, no he podido confirmarlo.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p style="text-align:center;">UPDATE: Con juegos tan buenos que han salido o saldran como Uncharted 2, Dead Space Extraction, Left 4 Dead, Ratchet &#38; Clank, Brutal Legend, CODMW2 y algunos otros, ya habia olvidado que en 1 mes y medio se lanzara FFXIII . . . los fans del titulo estaran muy contentos, y los que aun tienen dudas creo que estas solo se disiparan cuando tengamos el titulo en las manos. Asi que no lo olvides FFXIII y su bundle edición especial estan proximos a salir.</p>

<p>UPDATE: Bueno ya les platique que Square Enix lanzara <em>Final Fantasy XIII</em> este 17 de Diciembre de 2009 en Japón. El mismo CEO Yoichi Wada dio el gran anuncio . . . y despues de eso aparecio el jefazo de Sony Kaz Hirai para decir que apoyarian el lanzamiento con un Bundle.</p>
<p>Las especulaciones dicen que se lanzaria un PS3 Slim de 120 GB con la carcaza con algun diseño especial, parecido a lo que sucedio con el lanzamiento de la pelicula Advent Children, otro grupo especula que incluso habra un paquete especial con OST y más extras. Considero que lo japoneses estaran satisfechos . . . lastima de nosotros en el resto del mundo que tambien queremos el juego.</p>

<p>Siguiendo las noticias, como bien sabes FFXIII en Asia es exclusivo para el PS3 . . . pero en América el juego se lanzara para el PS3 y el XBOX360, justamente en este ultimo se rumora que será lanzado en 3 DVDs bien empaquetadito. Y de paso tambien les platico que los rumores indican una LIMITED EDITION. Por ultimo les dire que en América ya hay fecha tentativa . . . en el periodo de primavera de 2010 y segun Wada San será un lanzamiento INTERNACIONAL.</p>
<p>En cuanto a los rumores pues solo debemos esperar ya que dentro de poco tendremos noticias . . . ya que el Tokyo Game Show 2009 será en unos dias.</p>
<p>Para finalizar . . . es obvio que Suntory (embotelladora que ya vio que sacar bebidas es muy provecho$$$o) sacara para el lanzamiento la nueva edición de potions para Final Fantasy XIII ahora llamado &#8220;ELIXIR&#8221;. . . con latas edicion limitada y sus figuras.</p>

<p>Nunca he sido un gran bebedor de Maltas, quizás por que como dice mi Padre: “tranquilo, aun tendrás tiempo para disfrutarlos” y mis objetivos siempre han sido, como queda patente en el post anterior, los cocteles y sobre todo los combinados, pero aun así, es un mundo que me apasiona y realmente nunca pensé que fuera tan complejo y tan extenso, con lo que poco a poco, voy haciéndole caso a mis mayores…</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">No hará ni tres semana que unos amigos exponían en Whisky Live de Barcelona y me pico la curiosidad por eso de estar al día de las novedades y me acerque, disfruté de una tarde agradable, de divertidas y extensas conversaciones sobre Maltas y lo que fue mejor, la correspondiente cata de los productos!</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Acompañado de un magnifico maestro de ceremonias como es Santi Olivella, propietario de del mítico restaurante Barcelonés de la calle Valencia <a href="http://www.cata181.com/">Cata 1.81</a>, conocedor y experto en todo tipo de destilados, me fue orientando sobre las distintas marcas y productos que se exponían allí,  como os decía, los Maltas no son mi fuerte, pero tras probar varios productos de renombre y con muchísimos años todos ellos, uno me llamo la atención…Whisky Japonés!??</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Había oído hablar de ellos y de la excelencia de los productos Japoneses, pero para mis adentros pensaba que era como probar un Jamón Ibérico de Guinea Papúa…que no es lo mismo., vaya! Pues he reconocer que me equivoque de la A a la Z, me pareció fantástico, equilibrado, suave, una maravilla! Y realmente me conquisto, no solo el producto en sí, que me pareció increíble, sino la presentación y la mística que rodea al producto.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">El toque de gracias fue cuando Santi, al ver nuestra excitación con este producto, nos llevó al stand que tenía el IDEAL y nos prepararon un Whisky Sour con Suntory Yamazaki de 10 años…al día siguiente, llame a uno de nuestros proveedores y le pedí una botella, la envolví y se la mande a mi estimado Padre con una nota que decía: “A mi aun que queda tiempo…pero de momento vete disfrutándolo tu por mi”</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">…aun me llama cada dos días y me dice un escueto: “Domo Arigato”</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>October 20, 2009, Suntory&#8212; a Japanese company that is known as beer company and for the business integration with Kirin (another Japanese beer company)&#8212; had a press conference to announce their new &#8220;product&#8221;, Blue Rose.</p>
<p>Suntory loves to do something outside drink market, and Blue Rose was the one they had worked since 1990&#8217;s.</p>
<p>As they say in their conference and web page, the code for the flower is &#8220;Dream Comes True,&#8221; that tells how hard to create this imaginary but be-real rose.</p>
<p>We can get this rare rose after November 3.  Wish this fab rose helps our &#8220;dream comes true.&#8221;</p>

<title><![CDATA[Weekend Update]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Dinner club. Cost me the entire weekend, all day Saturday, cleaning up and cooking. Dinner was good, if don’t say so myself. Curried squash soup, coq au’vin.. for the last time for while, this time left out potato and added leeks. Red chard sautéed in butter, with garlic and pine nuts, wild rice and brown rice with crasins and pecans, grilled asparagus and finally some cheesecake I bought. I don’t really do dessert so well. We hosted a murder mystery that my sister in law had given us for a present back in.. I’m guessing the late 80’s? I meant I hadn’t opened it since then and the damn thing had a cassette tape to play. Had to scramble a bit to find the cassette tape player..</p>
<p>The murder thing wasn’t as fun as the last time we tried it. I think they’re better now, this one dragged on and on.. and on.. and we drank a shitload of wine.. include a really nice 2000 burgundy. The risk of serving a 9 year old bottle of wine that you’ve been hanging on to for 7 years and that is worth about $100.00 is hearing your guest tell you.. “hmmm, it’ ok but this Chilean Malbec is much better (at $7.00).. uh. We also had, and I’d been dying to try this for a long time..</p>
<p>Hold on to your selves you purists.. we had a delicious whisky, single malt from Japan. Yamazaki, from Suntory. I have to tell you, this could be one of the best single malts I’ve ever had. Serious. We drained the bottle. And.. Sunday was it was about 1:00 before I was feeling good enough to be horizontal.</p>
<p><em>I have wax on a bit about this whisky. I&#8217;m a whisky drinker, my personal favorites are Auchentoshan, a great mild lowland,  Balviene Double Wood and Laphroaig from the Scotch category, Bushmills 16 from the Irish world and a few bourbons like Basil Hayden. I read about Suntory and the Japanese attempt to make great whisky, (can&#8217;t call it scotch) over the last 80 years or so. A few years ago they did the unspeakable and beat the Scotch distilliries in a taste test, in Scotland.. a blind taste test mind you.  This was the first bottle I&#8217;ve ever purchased of Yamazaki, I mean with so many great scotchs from Scotland I get distracted, and really? How good could it be. Japanese beer has never done it for me, sake I get.. and like.. but really? Whisky? </em></p>
<p><em>Yamaszki was one of, if not the smoothest whisky I&#8217;v eever tasted. No bite what so ever. However this lack of the traditional scotch &#8220;bite&#8221; should not be misinterpreted as a lack of compexity. I was led to believe, by what turned out to be a very misinformed &#8220;expert&#8221; at Blue Max Liquors in Burnsville that this was going to be a smokey, kelp flavor, like the Isle Scotch&#8217;s I love.  This was none of that. Yamazaki is a very mellow, almost a fruity armoa that compares more to a 15 year old Balvine. There is no peat here. No Smoke.. but at the same time, it&#8217;s very rich and is now one of my favorites, and something that I&#8217;m going to enjoy surprising people with as I pop out a bottle of &#8220;Japanese&#8221; instead of Scotch.<br />
</em></p>
<p>Then I watched the Vikings, while not as bad as I thought it was going to be.. ironically, they played what could have been their best game of the year and had it not been for a couple lucky plays.. would have dominated the Steelers. Well, they got lucky last week, turn about it fair play.</p>
<p>Skyped with college kid Sunday night. That’s getting to be weird now that we’re settling in to our 1/3rd empty nest I just didn’t have a ton of interesting news to share with him these days.</p>

<p>Otra nueva entrega de <a href="http://www.suntory.co.jp/softdrink/boss/" target="_blank"><strong>Café Boss</strong></a> con el &#8220;simpático&#8221; Tommy Lee Jones haciendo de iluminador en un reportaje de <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idol_japonés" target="_blank"><strong>idols</strong></a>. <a href="http://publicidadjapon.com/2009/08/02/cafe-boss-y-tommy-lee-jones-el-extraterrestre/" target="_blank"><strong>Recordemos</strong></a> que Tommy Lee Jones interpreta a un extraterrestre que nos narra a modo de voz en off, su perspectiva de los humanos y los distintos trabajos que va desarrollando en la Tierra.</p>
<p>Para entender más el comercial, habría que explicar dos conceptos que aparecen en el espot y están relacionados con el mundo otaku como son las <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idol_japonés" target="_blank"><strong>idols</strong></a> y el &#8220;<strong><a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moé" target="_blank">moé</a></strong>&#8220;.</p>
<p>El primero, como ya sabéis, trata sobre las celebridades que alcanzan gran renombre y fama en Japón, a causa de toda la maquinaria de los medios de comunicación, que convierten al/la idol casi literalmente en un producto.</p>
<p>Recordad estas siglas:</p>
<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>M A C  (Modelo + Actriz + Cantante) = IDOL</strong></p>
<p>Un ejemplo que todos/as conocemos es la idol <a href="http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Kutsuna_Shiori" target="_blank"><strong>Shiori Kutsuna</strong></a> que <a href="http://publicidadjapon.com/2009/08/25/pocky-cuando-un-producto-forma-parte-de-la-cultura/" target="_blank"><strong>ya vimos</strong></a> en los <a href="http://publicidadjapon.com/tag/pocky/" target="_blank"><strong>anuncios Pocky</strong></a>. Pongo este ejemplo ya que es el que más a mano tengo porque no soy un gran conocedor de idols.</p>

<p>Por otro lado, el término &#8220;<a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moé" target="_blank"><strong>moé</strong></a>&#8221; tiene un significado distinto según el contexto. En este caso, la chica del anuncio sería &#8220;moé&#8221; por sus rasgos físicos adorables. inocencia e ingenuidad, simpatía extrema y cierto infantilismo entre otros.</p>
<p>Es una palabra de la que se podría realizar una tesis&#8230;</p>

<p>Uno de los anuncios de cerveza más fascinantes y mejor realizados que he visto en mucho tiempo. No es tan friki como otros de los que subo al blog, pero hay tantas cosas implícitas en él, que habría que desgranarlo poco a poco.</p>
<p>Para empezar, hay que ponerse en la piel de un <strong><a href="http://publicidadjapon.com/2009/09/10/regain-la-energia-del-trabajador-japones/" target="_blank">salaryman japonés</a><span style="font-weight:normal;">. </span><span style="font-weight:normal;">El anuncio aprovecha los pequeños detalles de la típica cena con los compañeros de oficina al salir del trabajo, para conectar con el <em>target</em>.</span></strong></p>

<p>I&#8217;m not really so interested in a special flower&#8230;even a &#8220;world&#8217;s first&#8221;.</p>
<p>What does sound appealing to me is <em>Suntory</em>&#8217;s <strong>new beer</strong>.<br />
The 「ショッキ生エイト」 (&#8220;<strong><em>Jyokki-nama Eight</em></strong>&#8220;) with 8% alcohol!</p>

It appears that beverage critic Michael Jackson predicted that by 2020 Japan could rival current industry leader Scotland in the battle of the whiskies. “Remember that while we were laughing at their cars, sushi became the byword at most high-profile gatherings.”<br />
So coming back to Japan and its whisky forays, seems like they have really got what it takes to stay ahead in the game.<br />
Japan lacks the peat used in distinctive Scotland whisky but overcomes this with local materials, giving its spirit a unique taste. Japan’s Suntory acquired Scotland&#8217;s Morrison Bowmore group in ‘94. Since then they have come a long way together with Nikka, the other local Jap co that has made news on the spirits’ awards front. <img alt="" src="http://www.myscotland.be/cardhu.jpg" class="alignleft" width="250" height="250" /><br />
Anyone for a distillery tour of Suntory? Or would you still choose the landscapes of Scotland for doing a distillery round trip…<br />

<p>Todos/as sabemos que los años ochenta fueron la gran explosión creativa en distintos ámbitos musicales y electrónicos. Sin ir más lejos el primer ordenador personal se comercializó en aquella época así como la Nintendo de 8bits. Decenas de grupos musicales tuvieron su clímax en aquellos años y a pesar de ello, sus canciones siguen sonando en nuestros ordenadores, reproductores mp3, coches o radios.</p>
<p>En Japón se puso de moda grabar anuncios con actores, cantantes y grupos musicales occidentales. Estos dos comerciales del grupo <a title="Duran Duran" href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duran_Duran" target="_blank"><strong>Duran Duran</strong></a> promocionando whisky Q (marca que actualmente no se comercializa) de la compañía <a title="Suntory Japan" href="http://www.suntory.co.jp/" target="_blank"><strong>Suntory</strong></a>, son el vivo ejemplo de lo experimental de aquellos años a la hora de realizar anuncios y mezclar elementos como&#8230; bueno, prefiero que lo veáis por vosotros/as mismos/as.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">I met up with Tweych for dinner and drinks. It was a pity that our sushi dinner hardly stood out especially considering that the place claimed to fly in fish daily. I didn&#8217;t like how loosely the rice was packed and felt that the fish wasn&#8217;t particularly fresh. It wasn&#8217;t frozen but neither was it fresh. However, I enjoyed the <a href="http://www.standingsushibar.com/" target="_blank">standing sushi bar</a>&#8217;s Suntory Premium Malt&#8217;s (5%) which is supposedly  hard to find in Singapore. It was a lovely pale yellow, very malty as expected and also surprisingly sweet. It went down fairly well with the sushi although I think Asahi Super Dry would probably do better at cutting through the seafood.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Not being particularly satisfied, we headed to Moomba for wine. Our resident wine expert Tweych picked out a New Zealand pinot noir, the 2007 Wairau River Home Block Pinot Noir (13%). Like most pinot noirs, it was light red and of course still very young. There was plenty of heady cherry, strawberry and red currant in the nose and it went down very smoothly. The only problem was that I felt like I was drinking alcoholic Ribena. The feeling only damped slightly after about a glass or so when the mild tannins started showing through. It was not bad, but I&#8217;m still not quite convinced when it comes to pinot noirs.</p>
