โตเกียว ตามไม่ทัน2

ความเหนื่อยเมื่อยล้า ตลอดเกือบทั้งอาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมาของการอยู่งานแฟร์นั้น หายเป็นปลิดทิ้ง หลังจากสาเกถ้วยแรกได้เข้าปาก และเหมือนมันรู้ได้ถึงความเหนื่อยล้าของผมจึงไหลย้อนขึ้นไปยังสมองให้รู้สึกซาบซ่าน ผ่อนคลายได้ยิ่งนัก

คืนนี้เป็นคืนสุดท้ายที่ผมต้องอยู่งานแฟร์ ไม่มีงานเลี้ยงใดไม่มีวันเลิกลา เราอำลาจากงานแฟร์ด้วยการกินอาหารญี่ปุ่นดั้งเดิมและเดินไปรอบๆเมือง เพื่อเก็บบรรยากาศและฉลองความสำเร็จให้กับตัวเองในค่ำคืนที่เหน็บหนาว แต่ชุ่มชื่นไปด้วยมิตรภาพของทุกคน ผมขอเล่าเรื่องคืนนี้ก่อนที่จะย้อนกลับไปยังงานแฟร์หลังจากที่ติดค้างในตอนก่อน

ที่จริงแล้ว รอบๆงานแฟร์ก็จะมีงาน Art & Design กระจายไปรอบเมืองให้ดู โดยมีแผนที่พร้อมทั้งบอกตำแหน่งสถานที่ที่จะเดินไปดูด้วยเท้าเปล่า หรือการนั่งรถไฟใต้ดินก็ดี ผมยอมรับว่า เค้าทำให้งานแฟร์นี้ทรงพลัง เพราะว่าทุกบริษัท ทุกหน่วยงาน และทุกคน พร้อมใจที่จะโชว์งานที่มีค่านี้อวดสายตากับทุกคน ผมล่ะ อยากอยู่ต่ออีกสักอาทิตย์เพื่อที่จะเก็บงานดีไซน์เหล่านี้ให้หมด แต่ก็คงจะทำไม่ได้ จึงปรึกษากันว่า เราคงจะต้องเก็บจากจุดใหญ่ๆที่มีอะไรให้ดูเยอะๆก่อน ถ้าเวลาเหลือค่อยไปยังจุดเล็กๆ หลังจากที่ดูโบว์ชัว เราจึงตัดสินใจว่าจะไปงาน Design Tide ซึ่งเป็นงานที่รวบรวม Art & Design ของเหล่าศิลปินและนักออกแบบ หลายๆคนไว้ในที่เดียวกัน ค่าเข้างานคือ 500 เยน แต่เป็นค่าเข้าที่คุ้มยิ่งกว่าคุ้ม โดย Concept ของงานนี้คือ Design & Peace คืองานออกแบบที่ต้องการความสงบและสันติสุข ผมว่าคอนเซ็ปต์ดีนะครับ ในสภาพแวดล้อมปัจจุบันที่มีแต่ข่าวคราวของสงครามและการก่อการร้าย ถ้านักออกแบบสามารถเปลี่ยนผลงานของตัวเองให้สามารถเยียวยาสังคมได้นั้นก็จะเป็นการดี โดยเค้าจะให้นักออกแบบแต่ละคนคิดคอนเซ็ปต์ของตัวเองขึ้นมา โดยจะมีคำว่าอะไรก็ได้ เช่น Beauty & Peace โดยจะคงคำว่า & Peace ให้ทุกคนไปคิดต่อกันเองว่าอยากจะนำเสนออะไร โดยไม่จำกัดผลงานว่าจะต้องออกมาเป็นอะไร นี่แหละคือความสนุกของงานนี้

ด้านหน้าที่เห็น เป็นแชนเดอเลียหรือโคมไฟอันใหญ่ที่ทำจากวัสดุเหลือใช้ แต่เป็นวัสดุที่เก็บเกี่ยวจากประสบการณ์ในวันวานของอดีตและปัจจุบัน มันไม่ใช่เป็นแค่โคมไฟ แต่ยังเป็นงานประติมากรรมที่มีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวของหนุ่มอังกฤษแต่เติบโตที่เยอรมัน ชื่อว่า Stuart Haygarth กองข้างๆกันเป็นตุ๊กตา ที่เหมือนจะทิ้งแล้ว มาวางกองรวมกันเป็นงาน Installation ของ Chie Morimoto & Yuta Iguchi

ด้านหน้าผมตอนนี้เป็นจอสกรีนขนาดย่อม ทุกคนต่อแถวกันเพื่อที่จะได้เข้าไปเล่นหน้าจอนั้น ผมอดแปลกใจไม่ได้ว่า มีอะไรกัน ทำไมคนถึงสนใจและทึ่งต่อภาพเบื้องหน้าไปตามๆกันเช่นนั้น Philip Worthington หนุ่มลอนดอน ที่สำเร็จวิชา Interaction Design จาก RCA ได้มีความคิดลึกซึ้งจากผลงานที่ชื่อว่า Shadow Monster งาน interactive installation 2005 ซึ่งมีแนวคิดที่ว่า อวัยวะและส่วนต่างๆของมนุษย์ก็เหมือนกับปิศาจร้าย ผลงานของเค้าจะสะท้อนออกมาจากคนที่เข้าไปยืนหน้าจอ ถ้าลองยื่นมือยื่นแขนไปข้างหน้า เงาจากมือ จะเปลี่ยนกลายเป็นรูปสัตว์ประหลาด หน้าตาน่ากลัว ลองขยับก็จะเปลี่ยนไปเรื่อยๆ ตามการเคลื่อนไหว ไม่รู้ว่าเค้าทำเทคนิคได้ยังไงนะครับ น่าทึ่งจริงๆ อวัยวะของมนุษย์ก็เหมือนกับปิศาจร้ายที่สามารถทำลายล้างสิ่งแวดล้อมและสังคมได้ แต่ในแง่ดีบางที เค้าก็เปลี่ยนภาพเป็นดอกไม้เป็นนก นั่นก็หมายถึงว่า คุณเลือกได้ที่จะให้อวัยวะของคุณเป็นประโยชน์หรือทำลายสิ่งแวดล้อม ผมลองเล่นจนนานสองนาน จนคิดไปเองว่า เราเคยเป็นปิศาจร้ายทำลายสิ่งแวดล้อมบ้างหรือเปล่าหนอ คำตอบที่ได้ อยู่ตรงเบื้องหน้าผมแล้วครับ ตัวประหลาดเต็มร่างกายผมไปหมด

ทางด้านแฟชัน ศิลปินชาวแดนอาทิตย์อุทัย Kosuke Tsumura ได้เสียดสีสงครามการบริโภคนิยมของคนสมัยปัจจุบันว่าเป็นการทำลายสิ่งแวดล้อมมากที่สุด ทั้งจากขยะ มลพิษต่างๆก็มาจากการบริโภคนิยมในปัจจุบัน งานของเค้าคือ เสื้อเกราะที่นักรบใช้ในยุคกลาง แต่แทนที่มันจะทำจากโลหะ เค้าเอาขวดใส่น้ำ มา

ทอติดกันให้เป็นเสื้อเกราะ เปรียบเหมือนการต่อสู้กับการบริโภคนิยมในปัจจุบัน เสียดสีได้แสบและนิ่ง ลึกมากๆครับ นี่แหละคนญี่ปุ่น บอกเล่าเรื่องราวได้นิ่ง และลึก ให้ไปคิดตามได้อีกหลายวัน ผมเดินมาเรื่อยๆ ส่วนใหญ่งานที่นำมาโชว์จะเป็นงานที่คิดถึงสิ่งแวดล้อมเป็นหลัก ในต่างประเทศเค้าสนใจเกี่ยวกับเรื่อง Green environment กันมาก อย่างที่ญี่ปุ่นเอง ว่ากันถึงเรื่องการแยกขยะอย่างเดียวนี่ก็ต้องแยกตั้งหลายอย่าง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นถังขยะเปียก ขยะที่สามารถนำไปรีไซเคิลได้ เช่นขวดน้ำต่างๆ กระดาษก็ต้องแยกเป็นอีกถุง แล้วของทุกอย่างจะมีวันทิ้ง จะไม่นำมาทิ้งวันเดียวกัน ง่ายต่อการจัดเก็บของรถเทศบาล เมืองโตเกียวที่นี่จึงสะอาดเป็นระเบียบ มีวินัย พี่ที่อยู่ที่นี่เล่าให้ฟังว่า ถ้าลองทิ้งขยะไม่แยกหรือว่าทิ้งผิดวัน ก็จะมีจดหมายเตือนจากที่เขตว่า เราทำไม่ถูกต้อง ถ้ายังทำอีกก็จะโดนปรับเป็นเงินมากโขอยู่ นี่แหละครับของจริง หรือแม้แต่ตั๋วรถไฟใต้ดินของที่นี่ เค้าไม่มีการคืนเด็ดขาด ตั๋วรถเป็นกระดาษเล็กมากๆ เพราะเค้าไม่อยากให้เหลือทิ้งทำลายสิ่งแวดล้อม ขาออกจากสถานีเครื่องกั้นก็จะเก็บตั๋วคุณไปโดยปริยาย ไม่มีตกหล่นตามพื้นเหมือนตั๋วรถเมล์บ้านเราอย่างเด็ดขาด

ขึ้นไปที่ชั้น 2 ด้านบนยังมีศิลปินอีกหลายคน แสดงงานกันหลากหลาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นทีมที่ชื่อว่า f.a.t. กลุ่มศิลปินญี่ปุ่น เสนองานออกแบบและการจัดวาง Peace lighting เหมือนเป็นแสงสว่างของความสงบสุข ของทั้งหญิงและชาย บนโลกซึ่งเต็มไปด้วยตัณหาจะสามารถสัมผัสแสงของสันติภาพนี้ได้ ทั้งบนพื้นพิภพและบนฟากฟ้า เช่นกันกับผลงานของกลุ่มศิลปินหญิงญี่ปุ่น On wall นำเสนอ Wallpaper ของความช่างสังเกตสิ่งแวดล้อมในเมือง บางสิ่งบางอย่างที่ไม่สามารถสัมผัสได้ ก็เอามาใส่บนผนังให้มีความเคลื่อนไหว มีชีวิต และรู้สึกได้นี่คือ คอนเซ็ปต์ของกลุ่มนี้ หลายๆงานเป็นการเปลี่ยนรูปแบบของใช้ที่ชินตา นำมาดีไซน์ใหม่ ปรับเปลี่ยนประโยชน์ใช้สอย เพิ่มความคิดเข้าไป ก็กลับกลายเป็นงานดีไซน์ใหม่สุดเปรี้ยว เช่น งานแก้วเป่า นำมาตัดครึ่งโดยไม่ให้แยกจากกัน เป็นเทคนิคพิเศษที่ศิลปินคิดค้นขึ้น หรือแก้วไวน์ที่สามารถรินไวน์ แล้วไวน์จะสามารถไหลเข้าไปอยู่จนถึงฐานของแก้วได้เลย หรือโครงของเก้าอี้ไม้ที่นำมาออกแบบใหม่ให้กลายเป็นโคมไฟ หรือที่วางเชิงเทียนได้ หรือแจกันที่ดูเหมือนภาพวาด 2 มิติ แต่พอเดินเข้าไปดูใกล้ๆ กลับกลายเป็นการหลอกตาด้วยรูปร่างภายนอกที่จริงแล้วก็คือ 3 มิติ ที่สามารถใส่ดอกไม้ได้

ที่นี่ยังมีส่วนให้ศิลปินที่เป็นนักเรียน นักศึกษาสามารถนำเสนอผลงานและนำมาขายให้กับคนที่มาดูได้อีกด้วย หลายๆงานนั้น ผมคิดว่าไม่เบาเลย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเสื้อยืดลายกราฟฟิคที่เล่นสนุกกับลวดลายบนตัวเสื้อ เครื่องประดับเก๋ๆจากเซรามิค นาฬิกาดีไซน์ดูยากที่ต้องให้ผู้ออกแบบสอนอยู่นานกว่าจะดูเป็น แต่ก็มันส์ดีไปอีกแบบ หรือเนกไทล์ที่ต้องบอกว่าฉงนเหลือเกินกับการออกแบบ มันทั้งพิลึกและน่าสนใจดีแท้ คงต้องยกนิ้วให้กับคนรุ่นใหม่พวกนี้ ที่มีความคิดดีๆให้กับโลกใบนี้ต่อไป

ผมยังคงเดินวนชมงาน หลายๆงานที่มีแนวคิดที่น่าสนใจ ทั้งเสียดสีชนชาติมหาอำนาจอย่างอเมริกา หรืองานที่พยายามแสดงถึงอารมณ์ขัน หดหู่ สนุกสนานของศิลปิน จนกลับมามองว่า ทำไมงานเช่นนี้ถึงไม่มีศิลปินหรือนักออกแบบของไทยคนใดได้รับเชิญเข้าร่วมงานแม้แต่คนเดียว น่าแปลกใจนะครับ ทั้งๆที่มีศิลปินจากทั่วโลกมาแสดงงานนี้ แต่คนไทยกลับได้มาแค่ชื่นชม ไม่ได้เข้ามาร่วมแสดงเลย ไว้ผมจะลองหาคำตอบแล้วจะมาบอกนะครับ

ผมเดินออกมาด้วยอารมณ์ที่อิ่มจริงๆครับ เรามาคิดต่อว่าหลังจากนี้ค่ำคืนที่ยาวนานเราจะไปไหนต่อกันดี จนมาคิดถึงตอนที่จะออกจากงานแฟร์ได้ว่า มิโกะ นักออกแบบชาวญี่ปุ่นชวนเราไปงานเลี้ยงฉลองของคนที่มาออกแฟร์กันแถว รอปปองงิ ย่านแหล่งบันเทิงเริงรมย์คงเหมือนแถวสีลมบ้านเรา แต่ที่นี่เค้าเปิดยันเช้าครับ เค้าจัดโซนไว้เลยว่า สถานบันเทิงเริงรมย์จะต้องอยู่โซนนี้เท่านั้น ไม่มีที่อื่นๆแน่นอน

สถานที่เราจะมานี้ชื่อว่า Super deluxe เป็นผับบาร์ของบรรดาคนในวงการหลายๆวงการ ทั้งนักออกแบบ ศิลปิน คนทำภาพยนตร์และอื่นๆ และยังเป็นที่จัดงานที่ชื่อว่า เพชะ คูชะ ที่เพิ่งมีในเมืองไทยเป็นครั้งแรกไม่กี่เดือนมานี้เอง เป็นงานที่จะให้ทุกคนที่มีไอเดียเจ๋งๆ มาพรีเซ้นท์งานตัวเองให้คนอื่นเค้ารับรู้ โดยที่ไม่มีโอกาสแสดงไอเดียที่บรรเจิดอย่างนี้ที่ไหนได้อีก นอกจากที่นี่

แต่วันนี้สถานที่นี้กลายเป็นที่รวมตัวของบรรดาศิลปินนักออกแบบ เราได้เจอหลายๆคน ที่มีชื่อเสียงมาในงานนี้ หลายๆคนจับกลุ่มคุยกัน โดยที่มีเสียงเพลงบรรเลงเป็นแนวบาหลี แต่นักดนตรีนั้นกลับเป็นคนญี่ปุ่น หลังจากที่ได้สอบถามก็เข้าใจว่า คนญี่ปุ่นนั้นนิยมไปอยู่บาหลีเกาะสวรรค์กันเป็นจำนวนมาก และกลุ่มนักดนตรีกลุ่มนี้ก็คงเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในนั้น ที่อยู่จนสามารถเรียนดนตรีที่เป็นของดั้งเดิมที่นั่นได้เป็นอย่างดี ผมฟังแล้วก็นึกชื่นชม ที่เค้าเข้าใจเอาวัฒนธรรมของอีกมุมหนึ่ง มาผสมผสานเอกลักษณ์ของตัวเองได้อย่างลงตัวเสียเหลือเกิน

และแล้วเวลาเกือบจะห้าทุ่มก็เป็นไฮไลท์ของงานที่จะมีการแสดงงาน Video Art ผมสงสัยใคร่รู้เหลือเกินว่าเป็นอย่างไร เพราะไม่ค่อยคุ้นกับวงการนี้เท่าไหร่ หลังจากนักดนตรีเชื้อสายยุ่น บรรเลงเพลงชวาจบลง ที่จอสกรีนหลังเวที ก็ปรากฏเป็นรูปของดอกกุหลาบที่โผล่พ้นเม็ดโฟมมา กล้องกำลังแพนไปที่มือที่โผล่มาจากเม็ดโฟมสีขาวเล็กๆนั้น สาวชาวญี่ปุ่น กึ่งเปลือยที่นอนในเม็ดโฟม ค่อยๆโผล่ออกมาจาก ตู้กระจกขนาดใหญ่ที่บรรจุเม็ดโฟมเต็มไปหมด เธอวาดลวดลายงานศิลปะ แสดงลีลาท่าทางให้ศิลปินผู้ถือกล้องวีดีโอ บันทึกภาพอิริยาบทของเธอ ขณะกำลังแหวกว่าย ฟองคลื่นสีขาวอยู่นั้น เธอก็แอคติ้งไปเรื่อยๆ ประกอบตามจังหวะเพลง โดยไม่มีบท ถือว่าเป็นงานศิลปะชิ้นหนึ่งที่ผมไม่มีความรู้สึกว่าอนาจารเลยแม้แต่น้อย สายตาของเธอไม่มีความยั่วยวนคนดู เพียงแต่เธอได้รับบทบาททางงานศิลปะ แสดงอารมณ์ที่ว่างเปล่า คล้ายกับเม็ดโฟมสีขาวที่ปกคลุมร่างกายเธอไว้ ผมไม่ได้ดูจนจบเพราะรู้สึกเหนื่อยเหลือเกินกับวันนี้ แต่ก็รู้สึกประทับใจการแสดงนี้ยิ่งนัก ผมคงต้องกลับไปพัก จากค่ำคืนที่เปิดกว้างให้คนทำงานศิลปะเป็นดาวเด่นแต่เพียงเท่านี้

ขอติดงานแฟร์ไว้ครั้งหน้านะครับ ครั้งนี้ ทุกอย่างคือความฝันในชั่วพริบตาหนึ่งจริงๆ

Collector's Fame Monster Edition Scary!

Lady Gaga has announced that she will release a collector’s edition art book of The Fame Monster to be released December 15. Everything included in the Fame Monster’s collector edition makes sense except for the lock of hair. It includes a collectable puzzle, posters, tons of pics and even paper dolls. Why would someone need a lock of Lady Gaga’s hair! That’s so creepy! Eww. And how big of a lock could it be anyways? I mean she’s only got so much hair. Maybe its from her extensions or something, but still! What are people supposed to do with it? Smell it? And isn’t only the really creepy fans who want locks of hair? I guess if you’re eaten by the fame monster creepy is what creepy does.

What do you think? Creepy or not?

Educational rubbish

I cleared out our mailbox earlier, and as usual, there was at least half a tree trunks worth of junk mail in there. The usual stuff. All of which went straight into the bin. The recycling bin that is.

This isn't on my gate I hasten to add, still they make a very good point.

There were coupons for Dominoes, offering $1 off the XXL super deluxe - if you order at least 5, collect them in person and consume them between the sociable hours of 3am and 6am.

There was an offer of a ‘Free house valuation’ from the local estate agent. Free? Free? I should bloody well hope so. With the housing market the way it is at the moment, agents should be so lucky to have a house on their books that they could actually sell.

There was an extremely tempting offer on some reduced rate security shutter blinds - if we have a large billboard outside our house advertising their services. Ermmm, lets think about that one for a minute. Nope. I don’t think prison chic really does that much for a house’s curbside appeal.

Then there was one from the Government health department, inviting me along for my free mammogram. Well strictly speaking the letter wasn’t exactly addressed to me, but someone who obviously lived here before and fell into the right age bracket. Not to be deterred and curious to see what I have in store for me in years to come, I thought I’d have a read through the literature.

Who knew I would have such a choice of languages – 30 in total, or 31 if you decided to read it in bog standard, boring old English. The other options were Amharic, Arabic, Bosnian, Burmese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Croatian, Dari, Netherlandic, Farsi, French, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japenese, Macedonian, Malay, Maltese, Khmer, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Serbian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Togalog, Thai, Tigrigna and Vietnamese.

Blimey, I’ve never even heard of some of those languages. Who knew that the northern suburbs of Perth were such a international melting pot of nationalities. The last time I took a look around, the only people living in the area were Australian’s, English, more English, even more English and a spattering of South Africans.

What I want to know is how do they even decide what languages to include on this type of bumpf?* Is it really based on the population of Perth, or do they just pick out the prettiest sounding languages and simply try to pad out the list to cover the entire alphabet?

Of course if you’re going to be really politically correct, then the literature should also have included Braille for the blind, a taped recording for the illiterate and a dictionary for the incredibly stupid. Then, when the whole lot is printed out on half a rainforest and delivered house to house, everyone at least has the option of either landing a job as a linguist in the UN, or using the 6″ wedge to stop their front door flying open in the storms.

* Incidentally, incase you’ve ever wondered about the history behind the word ‘bumpf’ - it orginated in England during WW2, when the soldiers, who were overwhelmed with unnecessary printed materials, decided to do a spot of recycling and use them as loo roll – or ‘bum fodder’.

So there you go, don’t accuse me of never writing anything educational on my blog!

Nekoroll and Tiger Tiger at Super Deluxe

July 20, at Super Deluxe was the V.I.I.M Project, a visual and dance performance in 2 parts. The first part was NekoRoll, directed by Keisuke Takahashi from Nibroll dance conpany; the second part was Tiger Tiger directed by Yohei Saito (aka Rokapenis), affiliated with the Baby-Q dance company and well-known for his intensive VJ activities in Tokyo and Osaka. The venue was packed, maybe around 200 people. The mood maker DJ was Yoko Higashino, choreographer from Baby-Q. The first Nekoroll performance was somehow shaky. Although a great visual work, with notably a panda scratching his ass, hundreds of cats falling from the sky and jumping around trying to catch U.F.Os, the global performance was tiring, not very imaginative choreography stuck half-way in tedious theater, with an express ranting of Cinderella fairytale accompanyed by a dull improv jazz/noise group. The second part with Tiger Tiger was luckily much more exciting. The set up was comprised of two musicians: Atsuhiro Ito with his fluorescent light instrument Optron and Gulpepsh, the Osaka human noise/beatboxer; plus solo male dancer Kenjiru Bien (Baby-Q), lazer show by Y&Y and definitive visual work by Rokapenis. The result was a half improv jumble of visual and sound sensations between digital psychedelia and noise violence. The explosive dancing of Kenjiru Bien was fitting perfectly the sonic vawes of the musicians competing with the visual assaults of Rokapenis. Although the lazer show was a good idea to provide a visual alternative, I sometimes felt that it was missing some serious lighting work to add more depth to the scenography. When projectors are used as main source of light, they often flatten everything giving a 2D impression to the whole piece.

Before the rights to Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King were passed from Sony to Warner, plans were for the vinyl format to be available, before the advertisement was pulled from the site. Now it seems that the vinyl will be imported, in a similar manner to some of the lesser “known” DMB live releases.

On the JB Hi-Fi Online website, when you search under Dave Matthews (click on the link to have the search done for you), you can order the RCA versions of not only the vinyl ($32.99), but the Super Deluxe (a rather steep $127.99, some $28 more than EzyDVD are selling it for), CD+DVD ($44.99), and the regular CD ($34.99). They may be available in limited quantities in store, so check your local JB in case they have it.

God it’s a chilling thought that this ‘new’ incarnation of Suede is now 13 years old. I still remember the début live review where Richard Oakes, the new 17 year old guitarist, was described along the lines of looking like “an awkward teenager in Boots trying to buy condoms” and all I remember thinking as a 25 year old was, fuck; he looks sooo beautiful and perfectly cool to me. I wish I could have looked like that at 17. Or indeed 25. And obviously I wish I could look like that now at 38. But so does he probably. I only hope he’s fat and bald now so I can enjoy some retrospective solace.

And who the fuck is Tania Branigan? Well a quick Google tells me she’s migrated to The Guardian and seems to have dropped the frivolous world of rock and pop music journalism for serious political commentary. Well done Tania. And your hair’s better these days too.

I woke up this morning singing “JFK,” a song written (and consequently illustrated/animated) by Brad Neely, a creative comic-book-artist-turned-web-cartoonist featured on SuperDeluxe.com.

Granted, some of his stuff is strange (I’m not a huge fan of BabyCakes–I think he’s creepy as all hell), but anything with the Professor Brothers or the History series is good for a few laughs.

I’ve featured some of my favorite bits on here.

1. Here’s “JFK.” I have no doubts that the Professor Brothers weren’t too far off about our former president’s super powers.

After the Rain Comes Sun, After the Sun Comes Rain Again

A gorgeous Summer day here in Tokyo followed by an almighty yet cleansing thunder storm that swept through, washing down everything and shutting down the trains for some time tonight.

I am doing OK after yesterday’s *thingie* but I couldn’t stop thinking about it, about him all last night and today. As I walked up onto the platform this morning there was not a sign of the tragic picture that was painted yesterday. I morbidly glanced at the tracks for evidence, some flowers, a mark of what had gone on yesterday. Nothing. Forgotten. The rain tonight washed any evidence of what he did away.

This morning I told a friend about it. His first question was, “Was he wearing shoes?” Shocked that he knew the body lay there with no shoes on I asked, “No, how the hell did you know that?” He replied, as if it were common knowledge “That is what they do, they take their shoes off before they jump.” When I spoke to Masao tonight about it, he agreed, “Yeah, Japanese people take their shoes off before they commit suicide.” I know the Japanese are very fastidious when it comes to taking off shoes before entering homes, schools, offices, some toilets etc but… I wondered out loud, “Is it because they believe they are entering heaven?” Masao shrugged as we crammed in through the doors of the packed train, “hhmm yeah maybe.”

Yesterday gave me a little shove and as with most powerful events in my life a flood gate usually opens up and wild, wonderful and often crazily coincidental things happen. Today was filled with all of the above and the sun shone in more ways than one.

In other news….

I love to dance!

On Saturday night me and my hoops danced with some very luscious ladies, sparkling men and Spider Man (projected on the wall of Super Deluxe) at GOLDEN.

Then on Sunday afternoon we took our hoops and got a little outdoorsy, a little dusty, a lot sweaty and whipped up a swirling storm at an outdoor trance party in Yoyogi Park. Filthy weekend hoop fun!

Social networks, blogs, and sites to get your fill of viral videos are as fleeting as a my buddies in a cold pool on a hot summer day.

Nausea of the thought of my pride and joys aside, Super Deluxe debuted as Time Warner’s uber-conglomerate media dominanting “we’re on your team” outreach to the common online viewer. It had some great original web shorts, and was a great alternative if you’re a person who doesn’t think Will Ferrell and Funny or Die are the second coming of Christ.

But Super Deluxe falls a few points in my book because of their LACKING support of the Good Side of Bad News, featuring comedy’s Jim Norton and Jim Florentine. If you were a fan of Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, or of Opie and Anthony, you’ll agree that their in your face, hilarious vulgarity made them amazing. Check out a clip below:

Was für ein Tag. Natürlich herrscht noch immer ein wenig Chaos, aber langsam zeichnet sich Entspannung ab. Unsere Gäste sind alle gut angekommen und wir haben ein großes Brunchbuffet vorbereitet. Bis gegen 13:30 Uhr wurde also erst einmal ausgiebig gefuttert. Im Anschluss haben sie die wesentlichen Infos über Medulin bekommen und ein wenig die Gegend erkundet.

Seit 12:00 Uhr werden gleichzeitig die Zelte und Zimmer verteilt. Bei einer Anreise von über 500 Personen braucht es dafür etwas Zeit, es soll ja auch alles richtig gemacht werden. Usere Gäste erhalten, sofern sie vorher das Young Island Haus gebucht haben, alle ein Mobilhome zugewiesen. Hatten sie ein Super Deluxe Zelt gebucht, erhalten sie auch entweder ein Bett in einem Mobilhome oder aber einen Platz in einem Super Deluxezelt. Unter diesen außergewöhnlichen Umständen müssen wir ein wenig improvisieren, erhalten aber viel Zuspruch und Verständnis.

Zu Beginn des Tages hatten wir noch einige Schwierigkeiten, genügend Bettwäsche zu erhalten. Diese müsste nun aber jeden Moment eintreffen. Es geht aufwärts, das Chaos lichtet sich und das Wetter ist wirklich einmalig. Fortsetzung folgt …

Well Super Deluxe is no more. This is of course according to nickmickolas and the Washington Post. I have yet to confirm if all my friends who work there still have there jobs as most of them are programmers and not mid-level management. This is sad because I frequented the site several times the week and enjoyed the content. Oh wait…the content not going away? They are just moving it over to Adult Swim. And the staff is being absorbed by AS also? Well that is kinda lame. Well I am still gonna wait on the official press release from Turner before I make anymore assumptions. Bobafred or Robert, care to fill me in?

Update: No one on the Super Deluxe staff is being absorbed by Adult Swim. Their jobs have been eliminated.

An animated version of Norm MacDonald delivers a regular dose of Daily Show-quality zingers on the day’s news at a rapid-fire pace. What’s not to like? The Fake News is a product of Ted Turner’s SuperDeluxe, the website that’s been keeping once-Sitcom-caliber comedians busy since 2006. And it has no finer regular program than The Fake News, a lightning-fast dose of current-event chuckles from a truly great comedian.

The animated version of Norm MacDonald, while somewhat restricted in physical expressions, actually seems to free the comedian to the point where he can literally control all creative aspects of the show (other than the actual animation, doubtless) since there is no need to shoot the show in the first place. Norm keeps the humor PG for the most part, however his punchy writing infallibly takes a news story and speaks directly to the point. An exceprt:

“Vice President Dick Cheney met with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia to discuss lowering oil prices. After hours of intense discussion, the two arrived at a unanimous conclusion: Naaaah.”
