Well it’s finally December which means we’ve all created 30 characters in 30 days and, like a year book, we’ll post a final time (for this year at least since I have a feeling Tyler will run this again next year). I think I was the only challenger to also be involved in NanoWrimo at the same time. Crazy. I’ll tell you right now that I DIDN’T finish 50K words of my novel, no this challenge was way to much fun and it won out each night as I tried to figure out where I’d devote my time.

I want to thank everyone for their encouragement and feedback.  In particular I’d like to thank; Mike Gallagher, Crash Landen, & Ralph Contreras for their involvement with me.

This challenge was a blast! A month ago one of my twitter friends @BlaqueSaber told me about @TylerJamesComic and his idea of creating 30 characters in 30 days. He thought I would really be into the idea. Whazzza, He was right! I knew I wanted to participate the second I read about it. I had been doing a daily comic sketch on my own blogsite at the time, but the idea of creating a series of original characters just seemed to fun.

I had originally planned on coloring all my new characters in photoshop. Well that only worked for the 1st two. I went ahead and just posted my pencil drawings. These weren’t just sketches like I was doing on my own blogsite, they were tight and more refined. I found I started to get a rhythm and style with this series. The character design drawings look like my regular style of drawing but evolved into it’s own version of my style. I’m really pleased with the result.

Thanks to all the great comments on the characters, both the constructive and positive. Seeing everyone’s awesome work helped keep me motivated. For this challenge I was in the company of super cool artistic and creative people.  -SHAZAM!

Okay, I’m going to try and follow Tyler’s advice and make a post containing links to all 30 of my characters.  I have no idea how to post thumbnails, so I’m trying to figure it out now.   Hope I get it right.

EDIT:  ARGH, this is a pain in the ass!  The thumbnails keep on linking to the pictures, not the profiles.  And every time I painstakingly manually edit it to have it link to the profiles instead and press “Update”, it keeps on randomly reverting to linking to the pictures again!  Anyone know how to fix this?

EDIT AGAIN:  FIXED IT!

While I’m here, I just want to say thanks again to everybody who took the time to read my character profiles, especially those thoughtful enough to leave feedback – all of it was greatly appreciated.  And thanks for bearing with my shoddy artwork.  Like I said at the beginning, I’m a writer, not an artist, and  I only tried drawing my characters to better fit in with what everyone else was doing.  Hope the art didn’t detract from your enjoyment of the profiles.

This was a challenge, one I never thought I’d complete, so I’m proud of making it the whole way through.  It was great fun.  Tyler, many thanks for organising it all.  You should do another one of these, or a similar challenge, in the future!

Some super exciting news!

The last few months we’ve been distributing our music to various networks and music supervisors with the hope to score one of our tunes on a commercial or movie.

Wellllllllll based on the logo above, I bet you can guess where this is heading….

That’s RIGHT!

Our super-hero team at Wanduta Management, and specifically our manager The Incredible Hulk Michael Morrison delivered the amazing news during our conference call last night- and we’ve all been floating on cloud 9 ever since!

We’ll keep you posted on where our tunes will be popping up- but in the meantime, keep enjoying our record, and we’ll see you in your hometown (wherever that may be) in 2010!

Chester Webb, a former conflict resolution specialist for the United Nations, entrepreneur and author of the best-selling book on world peace “Change is Good”, faced a mid-life crisis at age 50.  Though he had all of the money he could ever need, and had traveled the world over several time, there was something missing in his life.  Children.  Chester had given up the search for the perfect woman years ago, and decided he had seen enough children in need of good homes in his travels around the world.  So Chester decided to adopt one.  And then another.  And then another…

In less than four years, Chester had adopted more than 14 children, from six continents.  Chester and his brood were featured on two seasons of a semi-popular reality TV show, and the media affectionately dubbed him “Daddy Peacebucks.”  Deciding to make it 15, Chester traveled to Kenya to adopt a young boy named Juntu.  However, it turned out Juntu was really a team of internet scammers, plotting to kidnap Chester and hold him for ransom.

However, they underestimated Chester, who used his negotiation skills to convince one of the kidnappers to let him escape.  The other kidnappers gave chase, and to ditch them, Chester hid in a large, deep cave.  There, he was bitten by a strange spider, which he immediately killed.

Upon his return to the states and his children, Chester came down with a fearsome cold.  He went to bed and slept for three days.  Upon waking, he found himself hideously transformed into a ghastly half man-half spider creature.  Not recognizing their father, the children called the authorities, who attacked Chester causing him to flee.  They took the children away and are now trying to find new homes for them, while at the same time conducting a manhunt for the missing Chester.

But nobody, and I mean NOBODY takes away the children of DADDY LONGLEGS!

Note: That’s a wrap for me!  Wasn’t sure what my last character was going to be, and then it came to me in the shower.  Literally…A stupid daddy longlegs crawled into the shower with me, signaling it was time for the shower to be over.

44 years ago, a promising young scientist called Gilbert Graham was working late one night in his laboratory when a strange meteor fell to Earth.  The meteor hit the secluded coastal observatory that housed Gilbert’s lab, and in the resulting explosion, Gilbert was showered with a combination of chemicals and meteoric particles.  The building was reduced to rubble, but somehow Gilbert emerged unharmed.  More than that, he emerged with a host of incredible powers.  He had superhuman speed, strength and durability.  He could fly.  He could fire blasts of energy from his fingertips.   Without hesitation, Gilbert concluded that he must use these remarkable gifts for the benefit of humanity.  Donning a masked persona and becoming the world’s first real-life superhero, Gilbert vowed to inspire the human race to be all they could be, to attain a new standard of excellence.  And so The Standard was born.

Though The Standard was primarily the protector of his hometown, Sky City, he was loved by the whole world.  And even when he inspired a whole generation of superheroes to follow in his stead, The Standard remained the most beloved, for he was the first and – many would say – still the best.  Gilbert Graham, meanwhile, had transitioned into a job as a chemistry teacher, and married his longtime love, socialite Caroline Cole.  A little over 30 years ago, another major change happened in Gilbert’s life when he found a homeless boy lying on the road, dying from a knife wound.  Gilbert saved the boy’s life by injecting him with an experimental formula, which gave him powers similar to The Standard’s own (though not permanent, in his case – he needed a new dose daily to maintain his powers).  That boy came to be known to the world as Alex Thomas, and when Gilbert became his ward and legal guardian, Alex became Fabu-Lad, The Standard’s sidekick!

Time marched on, and after a successful career spanning almost three decades, Gilbert Graham finally decided to retire 15 years ago.  Fabu-Lad – by this point in his early 20s and no longer a “lad” at all, and in fact the same age Gilbert was on that fateful night the meteor came – took his place and became the new Standard.  Gilbert devoted himself fully to teaching chemistry and spending cherished quality time with his wife Caroline.  But about a decade ago, the new Standard shockingly unmasked to the world as Alex Thomas, and in the process revealed to the world that Gilbert Graham had secretly been The Standard before him.  Alex soaked up the celebrity following that came with this revelation, but Gilbert shunned the media attention, and this also caused a rift between him and Alex.

Now, Gilbert is an old man in his late 60s.  He still teaches, though he really should have retired by now.  His wife Caroline now suffers from Alzheimer’s.  And his life as The Standard is little more than a distant memory.  But that all changes when Alex Thomas – his protégé and adopted son – is brutally murdered.  Driven by a need to complete Alex’s last unresolved case (one that was eating him up inside, involving a missing girl he’d unwisely promised to find alive and well), as well as to find Alex’s killer, Gilbert Graham is forced out of retirement, becoming The Standard once more.  But this is a very different age of superheroes to the one he started 44 years ago…
