A Direção do SBT deve estar aos prantos:

A emissora passa por uma grande crise na grande São Paulo, Desde o dia 08/11 que a emissora não fica com a vice liderança na média dia.

O Ultimo dia que a emissora foi vice na média dia foi no dia 07/11 um sábado que a emissora ficou com 6,0 contra 5,3 da Record.

Contrariando:

Mas a direção do SBT em Minas Gerais deve estar muito contente com os índices, Minas é um dos estados em que o SBT quase sempre prevalece me vice na média dia que leva assim a se tornar vice na média mensal.

No Rio de Janeiro a emissora vive um confronto muito grande com a Record, principalmente nos domingos onde a diferença entre as duas podem ser decidida por décimos como no ultimo domingo 22/11 onde a diferença foi de 1 décimo a mais para a Record.

Ídolos:

O Reality de calouros ídolos teve sua estréia no SBT tendo boa audiência, mas na Record não foi diferente onde na estréia da edição 2009 teve a melhor audiência entre todas as edições do Brasil, registrou 13 pontos de média, 19 de pico e de 25% participação, ocupando a vice-liderança do ranking do Ibope.

No dia seguinte um crescimento considerável obteve 16 pontos de média, 19 de pico e 27% de participação, garantindo a vice-liderança do ranking de audiência.

A estréia de Ídolos 2009 teve 2 pontos a mais que a edição de 2008 que teve média de 11 pontos e pico de 14.

O SBT se prepara:

Enquanto Record está em cartaz com A Fazenda, o SBT pensa em uma possível volta da Casa dos Artistas. De acordo com informações do jornal Diário de São Paulo, o projeto é de Daniela Beyruti, filha de Silvio Santos, que atua como diretora-geral do canal.

O jornal informa que o programa seria uma mistura da Casa dos Artistas com O Aprendiz, da Record.

O SBT, por enquanto, não comenta sobre o assunto, mas especula-se que Roberto Justus seria o apresentador.

Mudando de Assunto:

O CQC programa humorístico da Band vem tendo queda na sua audiência, chegou a ficar em quinto lugar na audiência na noite de segunda (23), ficando atrás de Globo, Record, Rede TV e SBT, nessa ordem.

No entanto, segundo dados consolidados do Ibope, a atração se recuperou no final, ficando em terceiro lugar, atrás da Globo e da Record com uma média de 4 pontos.

Falando em Baixa audiência:

Mais preocupação para o Sbt, O Programa da Hebe vem  passando por momentos muitos difíceis com a sua audiência, Na segunda dia 23 houve momentos em que o programa chegou a ficar em 5º lugar.

Audiência Opostas de A Fazenda 2:

A Fazenda ainda não conseguiu trazer muita preocupação para a globo em dias da semana, ao contrário do que acontece aos domingos onde A Fazenda preocupa a direção da Globo.

Na Segunda(23/11) A Fazenda ficou em terceiro no seu horário de exibição, onde perdeu para Sobrenatural do SBT,  Na média geral, das 21h às 21h50, A Fazenda registrou um mero empate técnico com a emissora de Silvio Santos, que levou vantagem por décimos. Neste horário a Globo liderou com 35 pontos; SBT 9,2 e a Record 8,6.

O Programa Silvio Santos mais uma vez liderando a lista da semana entre 16 á 21 de novembro, semana em que a Eliana caiu no consolidado em comparação com o top 5 anterior, confira o top 5 do SBT entre 16- 21 /11 e 9-15/11.

Record e Bandeirantes foram as que mais cresceram, enquanto SBT e Globo as que mais perderam. Curiosamente, os piores desempenhos da Globo foram nas faixas da tarde – 17,4 de 2005 para 14,4 em 2008 – e, à noite, 34,4 em 2005 para 28,0 em 2008. Algo bem proporcional ao SBT, também nas faixas da tarde (9,1 em 2005 para 6,1 em 2008) e noite (10,7 de 2005 para 7,5 em 2008)

A Parte 2 da coluna Jajá.

Neste sábado (28) em “SuperNanny”, do SBT, Cris Poli propõe a Lucymara -a mãe que ela está auxiliando no episódio- que se liberte do passado e descarregue sua raiva em um carro velho. A explicação de Cris Poli é que, a cada golpe, Lucymara descobre que é preciso destruir para construir uma nova vida.

Separada do marido, Lucymara passou a dormir com as duas filhas, Isabela, de 3 anos, e Mariana, de 2 anos, e as trata como bebês -elas ainda usam fraldas, tomam mamadeira e fazem escândalo quando a mãe sai para trabalhar. Cris tenta fazer Lucymara perceber que a relação de dependência entre ela e as filhas é prejudicial para ambas as partes.

Discipline. Every parent’s worst nightmare. Well, I guess it should be every parent’s worst nightmare. It’s mine. I bring this up because I gave my 2-year-old a good spanking this weekend. We are so accustomed to him being very laid back, a bit slow, and more or less really mild-mannered. We got so spoiled.

Then he turned two. Here is a kid who is a bit developmentally delayed and goes to therapy, but somehow knew that in terms of acting like a little son of a gun, he is exactly two.years.old. What’s worse is that I can’t even tell if he isn’t listening to me or doesn’t understand. And I don’t know when it is I became a comedienne, because he is constantly laughing at me. Gutteral laughs. His dimples are so deep I am thinking of serving egg nog out of them at Thanksgiving. He thinks it’s all just a riot. I keep a straight face, I walk away to laugh, I try to be serious. But he just loves to do the opposite of everything he should. Congratulations kid, you have caught up with yourself.

So this weekend I took some pinches to the face, a smack, a kiss, then another pinch, then my glasses got ripped off my face. His dad got “pantsed” while trying to make taco meat. More than once he ran into the kitchen, smiling big, eyebrows arched, dimples deep and ready to pull his dad’s pants down. Playing in the garbage. Tossing food across the room. Sticking the drain cap in his mouth. Towards the end of the day, especially after the glasses face pinching, I lost it. I spanked.

Now oddly enough, we had just gotten done watching a string of Supernanny episodes. She is really pragmatic and has good ideas that I wouldn’t think about otherwise. But nothing that day was working. And I spanked him. Yes, I get that it makes no sense to stop someone from hurting you by hurting them back. But some people at some point in their life actually need to learn empathy, sympathy, and discipline by means of experience. I had no idea how much fire hurt until I burned myself as a kid. I loved the stove. My mother was not a hitter by nature in the least. But the day I was 3 and ran away across the street to my aunt’s house, I got a spanking. I should say in my defense that I got a teenage neighbor of ours to walk me across the street to my aunt’s house. But still, I acted like a jerky brat, threw a tantrum, and then left my house and crossed the street into better pastures. My welcoming committee wasn’t great. I remember it now 32 years later.

When the boy got his first official spanking,  he acted as if I poured ice water on him. He was shocked. He was afraid. He was confused. And I was a bit dead inside. Mostly because I really struck him out of anger and frustration and it was clearly very in the moment. But I don’t know how or when else is a better time to spank? 

I know many people have many methods. All of the old TV shows show the parents telling their kids to go upstairs and wait for the whoopin. This seems very well thought out and logical and in the mind of a kid, extremely frightening, which I suppose is the point. And I do think that in reality, a snowflake could do with a shock to the system. Not a beatdown, mind you. Just some old-fashioned no-nonsense fanny whooping.

I have to ask myself if I would be able to do it, because on the other hand, it seems so calculating. And the only “violence or physical altercations” I have ever witnessed were not meant to dissuade. They were purely meant to humiliate and hurt, and relieve stress. Pure and simple. Where is the line in my house?

I am not sure there is a clear-cut answer that is going to work all of the time. And I know that every good parent probably does really feel like shit after the spanking occurs. I know I do. I think I will walk away if I really feel in my gut that I just want to stop stressing before I administer the spanking. But if he is lighting things on fire, sticking objects in light sockets or running out in the street, I reserve the right to spank, and possibly strangle Homer Simpson style.

I do have some hope that once he is back into the swing of things with his speech therapy he will have some more tools to communicate with us. And vice versa. We lost his therapist to a combination of red tape with her license and also the state not paying therapists for work in EI. We got lucky that we live in just a decent enough neighborhood to have someone willing to travel and pick up our case. Many others aren’t that lucky and that’s a problem. But that’s for another post.

I haven’t gotten any judgement from any friends on this issue. Lulu says that I have to give him boundaries otherwise he will grow up to live in a neighborhood filled with fuckfaces and acting like a douchebag on Facebook Version 7.0. I am inclined to agree.

So in the end, no pun intended, I maintain that I feel like shit about spanking my kid. I will always be on the lookout for functional ways to not have to spank my kid. I will hopefully recognize when I need to cool down and spanking incidents will be the exception, and not the norm.

Someone should write Miranda Rights for spanking. You have a right to remain silent. Anything you do can and will be held against you with your parents. You have a right to straighten your shit up and you have a right to ask us to assist you. We in turn reserve the right to possibly and maybe spank you. We hope not though.

Hi, my name is Jen and I have a highly energetic, outgoing, freakishly strong, willful, big-emotion daughter. Yes, my relatives all will attest that she is JUST LIKE ME. They are not so secretly ecstatic that she is JUST LIKE ME, and they consider this payback. Retribution. My day of reckoning. Justice for the sheer hell I good-naturedly put them through while they babysat me through various stages of my life. Like, the time I INSISTED that I wanted ketchup on my ham sandwich, knowing full well the entire time that as soon as my aunt put the ketchup on my sandwich I would refuse to eat it. Because honestly, ketchup on ham is just gross. I just wanted to see if I could get her to do it. I did.

Or the time that I convinced my babysitter that I was sick and INSISTED that she call my parents at the bowling alley to make them come home. I wasn’t sick. I was just sick of her. After two calls to the bowling alley they came home at 11 p.m. — I was still up. I found out recently that I made them leave their bowling Christmas party. Whoops!

Or the time that I convinced my idiotic 16-year-old babysitter to take my parents’ customer’s car into town to get ice cream — a car that my parents were REPAIRING, mind you — while leaving a 10- and six-year-old at home. ALONE. I only confessed to that little crime about five years ago. I told my parents that it wasn’t my fault that my babysitter was such an idiot and that she would be so stupid as to listen to a 10-year-old!

Oh, and my mother and aunts would be HAPPY to REGALE you with tales of my varied and wide-ranging tactics to extend my bedtime. You know, the typical, “I need a drink,” “I have to go to the bathroom,” “Read me just one more story,” “I’m going to read to myself in bed,” etc., etc., etc.

Ah, but they do still love me, telling these stories while laughing about what I put them through. And laughing that I AM NOW GETTING PAYBACK.

Lately we have been going through a lot of changes that confirm Monkey’s complete transformation from baby to toddler. Chiefly, getting rid of the nuk and moving into a big girl bed. And it actually makes me a little sad that she’s growing up so fast. It just goes by SO FAST. Part of me was worried that I was forcing the change because the new baby is coming. I didn’t want Monkey to still have a nuk after the new baby came because I figured then she would have it until she was three! And, I need the crib for the new baby. But, honestly, I think she was ready. The nuk weaning went so much better and faster than I expected. We followed the advice of many mothers who have come before, and cut off the tip of the nuk so that it didn’t work properly. After a few days of telling her that it was broken but still giving it to her, she completely forgot to ask about it before bed. And since then, she hasn’t even mentioned it.

The big girl bed transition, on the other hand, has not gone as smoothly. I armed myself with a strategy — using the Supernanny tactic of silently and consistently putting the child back in bed over and over again. I talked with other moms and Monkey’s pediatrician who advised me that this tactic was most desirable. They also forewarned me that I might need a gate to keep Monkey in her room. This way, if she refused to stay in bed at least she couldn’t get out of the room. “Make her room one big crib,” is what her doctor said. So I bought a gate and made sure her room was safe and that the only “toys” in her room were books.

We talked to Monkey for several weeks about her “new room” as we were getting it ready. Painting, hanging new curtains, laying new carpet. Every time someone came over we had her show off her new room. We weren’t actually planning to move her into her big bed and new room until after Thanksgiving. This way she would be comfortably settled in her new room for about two months before the baby came. Then Monkey decided to take a flying leap out of her crib last week. Well, guess what? TRANSITION DATE MOVED UP!

So anyway, I had the strategy and the gate. The first night was too good to be true. Monkey only got out of bed for about 15 minutes before settling down and going to sleep. In my fantasy world, this is how the transition would go:

“Oh mom, you want me to lay here, in this bed, instead of in my confined-space crib? Fantastic. No problem. No mom, I won’t get up and get out of bed. I’ll stay right here with my head on the pillow and the blanket covering me. I wouldn’t DREAM of getting out of bed and coming out of my room 155 times per night over the course of two hours. And if you gated me in my room to prevent me from leaving, I certainly wouldn’t retaliate by pulling every single piece of clothing out of my drawers and destroying every single thing in my closet. That would just be unruly, mom. I would never do that.”

Unfortunately, my nightmare transition consisted of an epic battle with Monkey getting out of bed 155 times and throwing all her clothes out. AND GUESS WHAT? THAT’S PRETTY MUCH HOW IT’S GONE SINCE THE FIRST NIGHT!

Yep. Last night consisted of two hours, 100 times out of bed, me momentarily abandoning the tactic after an hour and a half and losing my cool and yelling, then feeling like a horrible mommy for yelling when I knew I wasn’t supposed to, and a lot of tears (MINE!). So tonight — ah yes, tonight. Tonight consisted of us putting up the gate nearly immediately after Monkey got out of bed five times in the first 60 seconds. She read books in her bed, played in her closet, pulled all the socks out of her sock drawer, and scattered her books around her room. All during the first hour and a half. But, I told my husband, at least we haven’t been standing in the hall, putting her back in bed 100 times, crying and swearing in frustration. At least she’s not hurting anything and she’ll eventually get tired and get in her bed and go to sleep. And then. Then she decided to CLIMB OVER THE GATE. She f&cking climbed over the gate!!! WTF! I mean, there is a reason I call her “monkey,” but seriously! Yep, the little shit climbed over the gate. My husband was soooo mad. And all I could think about was, “Man, this is payback,” while I tried not to laugh. My poor husband — he was a mild-mannered, meek child compared to me. He didn’t deserve this payback. Me, on the other hand …

While I’m in the heat of battle I’m going to TRY REALLY HARD, to remind myself that this won’t last forever, that every parent has gone through it, and that someday too soon I’m going to be reminiscing with Monkey about this hell she put me through.

Em 1984, as noites de sexta-feira eram abrigo de séries que se tornariam grandes clássicos da TV: ‘Miami Vice’, ‘Dallas’, ‘Hunter’, ‘Webster’, ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ e o ‘V’ original. Programação boba, leve demais? Pode ser. Mas pelo menos era original.

Hoje as sextas-feiras são um emaranhado de shows perdidos, no limbo, reprises. As emissoras simplesmente não sabem o que fazer com as sextas-feiras. E a preocupação cresce ainda mais quando NENHUM dos programas consegue passar dos 2 pontos na demo qualificada.

A última sexta-feira foi vencida pela CBS que exibiu ‘Ghost Whisperer’ (8 milhões e 1.9 ponto), ‘Medium’ (8.2 milhões e 1.9 ponto) e ‘Numbers’ (8.2 milhões e 1.8 ponto).

A ABC e a NBC empataram. A primeira exibiu ‘Supernanny’ (5 milhões e 1.4 ponto), ‘Ugly Betty’ (4.5 milhões e 1.3 ponto – finalmente subiu um pouquinho) e ‘20/20′ (6.7 milhões e 1.9 ponto). A NBC exibiu ‘Law & Order’ (7.5 milhões e 1.7 ponto), ‘Dateline’ (7.3 milhões e 1.7 ponto) e ‘The Jay Leno Show’ (4.7 milhões e 1.2 ponto).

A Fox exibiu reprises, enquanto a CW levou ‘Smallville’ ao ar, atingindo seu maior número de telespectadores na temporada (2.7 milhões e 1.2 ponto).

A recent survey has concluded that children are more likely to be successful in life, and develop good character capabilities, if parents adopt a ‘tough love’ attitude, according to BBC news.

I agree with this idea to a certain extent, and am grateful my parents didn’t let me get away with murder, however unfair it may have seemed to me at the time. Although there is no denying that the way a child is brought up affects how they develop, to claim that the characteristics they subsequently acquire at pre- school age determine if they will be ‘more successful in life’ seems a little far-fetched. Just how much influence do parents have in shaping our personality, and identity?

The balance between warmth and discipline is crucial, claim think- tank Demos. This makes sense. I’m sure anyone who has watched channel four programme ‘supernanny’ will agree with this statement, probably also sniggering smugly at the parents inability to control their kids, whilst thinking “thank god they’re not mine!”.

The programme is basically a clear cut advertisement for not having kids. Whether they’re running around throwing rocks at each other/ swearing/ biting/ spitting on their mother/ stealing, it is obvious that the little demon-children featured need some kind of structure or discipline. However surely most people go through some kind of rebellious, annoying phase, regardless of their parents discipline technique- is that not just a vital part of growing up?  

With continual speculation within the media regarding parenting techniques, the creation of  ’Asbo’ teens has fuelled further the assumption that poor parenting is too blame.  However, bad behaviour amongst teenagers is not due to a decline in parenting, says a previous report.

Although I believe a structured and well balanced upbringing is of course essential in shaping good personality traits, I do think that too much emphasis is placed on the parent’s role. If you don’t discipline your child adequately enough then they are less likely to succeed in life, but discipline them too much and they might rebel- ultimately different children react differently to different parenting styles.

As far as I am concerned the way in which I have been brought up, or the personality traits I developed at the age of five, makes me no more or less likely to succeed in life than anyone else. It is rather simplisitc to suggest that a ‘tough love’ approach to parenting ultimately will make a child more successful in life, as it discounts so many life experiences that shape the way a person develops.

Nadie dijo que educar a los hijos era fácil. Pese a que en este sentido las abuelas son una inmensa fuente de sabiduría, muchas veces los consejos no son tan eficaces en su aplicación práctica. Lo importante es no desfallecer, insistir y ser pacientes. Y que conste que con insistir no me refiero a estar dale que te pego con el niño y perseguirlo por toda la casa para que recoja sus juguetes. Se trata de ser constante en el cumplimiento de las normas y convertirlas en un ritual diario que le permita involucrarse en la rutina.

Desde que soy madre mis preferencias televisivas han cambiado un poco, me he convertido en fan de Supernanny. Ella sugiere que debemos pedir las cosas solo una vez. Ejemplo práctico:

Escenario: Una niña tiene todos los juguetes en el suelo de la habitación.

- Montse ¿has terminado de jugar?

- No.

- Pero tienes que guardar tus juguetes porque vamos a dormir.

- Mamá… ¡no!

La niña pasa de ti y se sienta nuevamente a jugar. Ante tal comportamiento hay tres escenarios posibles:

a) Pierdes el control y empiezas a gritarle para que te haga caso.

b) Le pides por favor, y con paciencia, que recoja sus cosas. La niña no lo hace y optas por recoger tú.

c) Después de pedirle que recoja sus juguetes coges una revista o un libro y empiezas a ignorarla.

La mayoría de las madres remediamos el problema con las dos primeras opciones.  Sin embargo, los expertos aconsejan que lo mejor es dar la orden una sola vez. Si se le insiste estás propiciando un enfrentamiento entre tú y el menor. Y si haces tú las cosas estás demostrando tu debilidad. La opción C puede parecer absurda porque el niño sigue jugando y se sale con la suya. Pero si te mantienes firme y en realidad le ignoras, el niño termina por aburrirse y hacer lo que le has pedido a fin de conseguir nuevamente tu atención. Es decir, no hablarás con él hasta que recoja sus juguetes. Punto.

Como os decía al principio, en teoría parece fácil pero enfrentarte con uno de sus pucheritos o ver su carita (tan tierna) mientras llora exigiendo tu atención no es sencillo. Pero es mejor corregir a tiempo que enfrentarse a un caso extremo como este:

  This is satire in its truest form.  No one and no thing is safe from Colbert.

Monday:

• House (Fox)
  Greg’s brand of sarcasm and wit gets me in the right place.  Only recently have I started caring more about the team than the weird diagnostic cases.
• The Big Bang Theory (CBS)
  This is our favorite show on television, hands down.

Tuesday:

• V (ABC)
  Though this remake just started, we’re pretty sure this show will be entertaining.  I’m worried about how long they can stretch it out, but it should be a fun ride.

Wednesday:

• Glee (Fox)
  This show proves that a musical comedy/drama on network television can not only work, but be clever and insightful.
• Mythbusters (Discovery)
  Educational and entertaining and they blow things up?  Sweet.

Thursday:

• Community (NBC)
  Half goofy comedy, half almost heartwarming.  Not the funniest show, but it has its moments of brilliance.

Friday:

• Stargate Universe (SyFy)
  Can one show fill both our Stargate SG-1 and Battlestar Galactica needs?  Looks like it so far.  Not as fun as SG-1 or as dark as BSG, it seems to run right in the middle of the two, which is great.
• Supernanny (ABC)
  These families make us want to not have children, but Jo teaches us what to do right.
• Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Cartoon Network)
  I’m the only one who watches it, but this show is impressive.  Better than the prequel movies, better than its own movie.  It’s almost real Star Wars.

Weekly:

• Indianapolis Colts Football Games
  I’d wanted to start watching the Colts for the last couple years, but it was only when my wife brought it up that we started watching.  Been an exciting season so far!

A exclusiva de Diane Sawyer com a cantora atraiu uma demo qualificada 18-49 de 2.7 pontos e 8.2 milhões de telespectadores. Foi também a melhor demo 18-34 do show nos últimos três anos.

Foi o suficiente para a ABC empatar na primeira posição com a CBS (na demo qualificadA), que geralmente vence a noite com facilidade. Mesmo assim, a CBS foi a vencedora no total de telespectadores.

A ABC exibiu ‘Supernanny’ (4.7 milhões de telespectadores e 1.3 ponto na demo qualificada) e ‘Ugly Betty’ (4.8 milhões e 1.3 pontos). ‘Betty’ teve um crescimento de 18%, mas esse número não é significante já que a audiência da semana passada foi a menor da história do programa.

A CBS exibiu ‘Ghost Whisperer’ (7.9 milhões e 1.8 ponto), ‘Medium’ (7.6 milhões e 1.8 ponto) e ‘Numbers’ (8.1 milhões e 1.8 ponto) – todos com a mesma demo qualificada.

A NBC ficou em terceiro lugar com as exibições de ‘Law & Order’ (8 milhões e 1.8 ponto), seguido de um especial de ‘L&O’ (8.4 milhões e 1.9 ponto) e ‘The Jay Leno Show’ (4.7 milhões e 1.2 ponto).

• Showtime annuncia il ritorno delle sue serie originali
  Il canale cavo Showtime has annunciato le date in cui torneranno le proprie serie originali nei prossimi mesi.
  La programmazione del lunedì sera riprenderà il 25 gennaio con la seconda stagione della serie inglese Diario di una squillo perbene (già proposta in Italia su Fox Life) alle ore 22.00, e a seguire alle 22.30 i nuovi episodi dello sketch-show “Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union”; alle 23.00, infine, partirà il nuovo varietà “La La Land”, in cui il comico inglese Marc Wootton interpreta tre personaggi ed interagisce con gli abitanti di Los Angeles.

In a nod to our fine friends at Extraneous Kickassary and YWYT who both penned Top 10 TV columns this week I’d like to do a quick review on 5 shows that have been on for 5 years that I’ve never seen 1 time. The rules:

• Show must be currently running and have been on for at least 5 seasons
• Show must be on main networks and in prime-time
• I seriously must have never watched more than 3 seconds of the show (the time it takes to flip the channel)

5.  Medium 2005 to Present-  Patricia Arquette gets nightmares and does stuff and then more stuff happens and blah, blah, blah…bad hair cut…blah, blah, blah. At some point they catch some pervert and everyone is safe for 7 days until the next episode of Medium.  Arquette peaked as Alabama Whitman in True Romance. The fight scene with  James Gandolfini is still one of my all time favorites.  

4. NCIS- 2003 to Present-  Stars Mark Harmon and some butt ugly goth chick they’re always showing on the commercials. You know what’s a lot better than NCIS staring Mark Harmon….Summer School staring Mark Harmon. Do you remember how hot Courtney Thorne Smith was in that movie? Holy accident in my pants. Man she was hot.

I think NCIS is like a military rip off of CSI. MY #1 rule with forensic crime drama shows is No Marg Helgenberger=No Watchie….hence I’ve never seen this  steaming pile of dung.

Bonus! NCIS was a SPIN-OFF from JAG which, holy mashed potatoes, ran for 9 freaking years.

3.  Gray’s Anatomy 2005 to Present  Dr. McSteamy humps a crash cart while that fugly asian chick pops vicodin like chicklets….on the next Gray’s Anatomy! I wear this one as a badge of my manhood. Entering it’s 5th year without one viewing by team turdland. Did you know Patrick Dempsey played Damone on a short-lived TV series based off the movie Fast Time at Ridgemont High? That little nugget there is cooler the 5 years of Gay’s Anatomy. (He was also in Meatballs III)

2.  Supernanny 2004to Present- I so totally thought this was going to be different. Take one part British chick with sexy accent and add the words Super + Nanny. We’re talking prime-time boner maker right? Wrong. apparently this show is about some opinionated geezer built like a log cabin that comes to your home and tells you what to do. I’ve already got that going…she’s called my Mother in Law. I live this shit. I don’t need to watch it on TV. End of story.

1. The Ghost Whisperer 2005 to Present- This is a show about Whoppi Goldberg (* my favorite black jew by the way….barely edging out Nell Carter and reggae superstar Sean Paul) talking some smack to Patrick (43 Points) Swazye while they do some gay shit with some clay. Then Demi Moore gets hit by a train  and….oh crap, that’s the movie Ghost.

Anywho, The Ghost Wisperer(er) stars Jennifer Love- Hugetits and is on Friday night. She talks to some ghosts and whatnot and there are lots of closeups of her cleavage. Other than that I have no idea what the show is about because if you’re watching The Ghost Wisperer(er) on Friday night you’re a loser.

**Bonus Take- CBS…I’m looking at you. This is like 1/3 of your entire non-reality line up. Embarrasing.

Voters’ Meeting

I have spent some time observing your country, taken a look around.  First, I’d like to say that you are the owners of a wonderful country.  It is bright, vibrant, diverse.  It has a lot of potential.

However…

You are letting your politicians walk all over you.  They ignore you when you tell them what to do.  They laugh at you when you express your displeasure.  They hang around with people who you have forbidden them to talk to.  They behave as if your vote doesn’t count.  And you let them get away with it.  When they scream and cry for money, you give it to them.  When they accuse you of being “old, stupid, reactionary, Republican, racist, terrorists”, you vote for them anyway.  And in all that time, they have made only half-hearted efforts to clean up the environment and make the tax system more fair.  They think you’re not serious about health care reform, financial regulation and giving you the best educational system in the world.  They fight- *constantly*- with each other and other countries.

And they will continue to do this because they think you are total pushovers.  You have not enforced any discipline in your politicians.  You let them get away with everything.  If you want your country and control back, something’s got to change.  You have to be willing to step up and make some changes.  Are you ready to roll up your sleeves and put this country back in order?

Step One: Laying down the rules

The first thing we need to do is tell the politicians what we want and then deliver that message clearly and unambiguously.  If politicians aren’t delivering the results you want, it could be because you are sending them mixed messages.  You need to establish what kind of government you want and then stick with it.  You have to figure out what you value and put it into  words.  Your politicians’ noisy friends will try to distract you whilst you are thinking about this.  So, I recommend you shut the TV off whilst you are composing your set of rules based on your beliefs.  You can use our credo as an example

Second, deliver these values and rules to your politician.  Your politician now has no excuse for ignoring you.  You have told him/her what you expect and there should be no confusion about it from this point forward.

Step Two: Discipline

This step will require a committment from you because it will take some time before your politician gets it.

If your politician is not following your rules and living up to your values, you should immediately issue them a warning.  Call your politician’s or party’s office or meet them in person.  Use your authoritative voice and say, “I don’t like what you’re doing.  If you do not stop, I will put you in the Naughty Spot for your next term of office.”  If your politician does not comply, put him/her in the Naughty Spot.  For a Congressman, this is two years; for a Senator, six years; for a Governor, four years, etc.

When the politician attempts to get out of the Naughty Spot, calmly put them back on the Spot.  Do not attempt to argue with them if they make a fuss.  Simply repeat the reasons why you have taken the steps you are taking: They knew the rules.  They made an infraction.  You warned them.  They are being disciplined.  If they want off the Naughty Spot, they have agree to listen to you and to apologize to you.

In order for this to work, the Voter has to present a united front with other voters.  You have to have the courage to enforce the rule.  This is your responsibility as citizens.  You can’t run away from your responsibilities and expect that someone else is going to keep your politicians in line or that they will do it themselves.  They need your guidance and committment and they will comply much more quickly when they see you mean business and that voters are backing each other up.

This will not be easy.  It will take time and persistence.  You will feel like you’re not getting anywhere for awhile.  But stick with it.  Throwing a few of them on the Naughty Spot will focus their attention more effectively than you think.  Before you know it, they will be much more cooperative and life more harmonious with your values.

Here is your first opportunity, voters of New Jersey.  Neither Chris Christie or Jon Corzine has behaved in a manner worthy of your vote.  They both represent parties that have taken you for granted and will continue to do so for four years.  Chris Daggett is a smart, optimistic man who has potential to deliver for you, the voters of NJ.  He has been endorsed by the Sierra Club, he has a plan to reduce property taxes and he knows that if you don’t like him as governor, he can be thrown out in four years.  The other two candidates are going to walk all over you.  What are YOU going to do about it?

Well, I know what I’m going to do.  I’m throwing Chris Christie and Jon Corzine on the Naughty Spot for four years and I’m voting for Daggett.  Go forth, NJ, and do likewise.
