Gas Hot Water heaters

Why do my Polite light keep going out ?
1. Check to see if the gas is on at the Water Heater and out side meter (easy over look)
2. Could be a bad thermo coupling
3. Thermostat control valve malfunctioning
4. If the Hot Water Heater flue pipeis connected to the same main flue pipe
That the furnace is hook to. When the furnace kicks on
It can blow out the polite light with back pressure.
5. Water heater in a very hot place. This is some thing that happens
in some parts of Texas like Houston. Where the hot water heater are install
In the attic. The attic can get very hot so hot that it well shut off the
hot water heater. The newer Hot Water Heaters that they have out
Today have a safety device that will cut off the hot water heater completely
Just in case it over heats for your safety. The temperatures in the attic can easy
Assed the 200 or more degrees and the water heater will shut down at around 160 Degrees.
Some hot water heater Manufacture will tell you these hot water heater are not design for the
Attic. But luck has it that some Manufacture will send you out a part that will over ride the attic
Heat and keep your hot water heater functioning. If you have this problem look on the side of your
Hot Water Heater and get the 1-800 Number give them a call and the manufactory will help you.

Not Getting enough hot water
1. Dip tub inside Hot Water Heater is broken off.
2. Thermostat control valve malfunctioning
3. Very old water heater with calcium built up inside (replace Water Heater)

Hot Water Heater making Loud popping Noise
1. To much calcium built in hot water heater
( You can flush the Hot Water Heater out, But that not a guarantee fix
And can be a difficult job. Save Time have it replace)

The 2009 Black Book of Outsourcing client experience survey investigates a subset of over 3000 Busin

The 2009 Black Book of Outsourcing client experience survey investigates a subset of over 3000 Business Process Outsourcing contracts held by 800 corporate buyers of BPO.
18 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) or criteria are employed specific to BPO buyers within all verticals and sectors, scored on each respective vendor and ranked per KPI.
Key Finding: Most Important Customer Satisfaction KPIs in Cross-Industry BPO Sector
Innovation, customization and reliability are the most important attributes influencing Cross-Industry BPO client satisfaction with their 2009 outsourcing providers. All three KPIs were overwhelmingly praised by the clients of HCL BPO, which captured the overall honors across all verticals and horizontal functionalities this year.
Key Finding: Vendor Dissatisfaction is uncommon in the BPO Industry Outsourcing Sector among Top Tier Ranked Suppliers
Strong dissatisfaction is uncommon among the largest and most comprehensive suppliers of BPO occurring in only 6.5% of financial and accounting clients and 8.8% of transactional services clients.
US clients are among the most satisfied with cross-industry BPO services delivery averaging 95.5% with 2009 projects delivered from North American based suppliers (US, Canada and Mexico). Stronger dissatisfaction was more commonly reported from engagements with offshore outsourcing vendors with 13.7% of all surveyed BPO clients (Philippines, India).
Key Finding: Comprehensive Services Vendor arrangements from Full Service BPO Vendors produce the Highest Satisfaction Rates
Vendors offering comprehensive BPO and ITO Services ranked highest in the overall survey by all clients. Cross industry clients showed significant preference for vendors who are capable of offering more extensive service lines once satisfied with initial projects.
HCL BPO compiled the highest rankings and client experience scores across three of the four major functional subdivisions of BPO services this year.

Companies Mentioned

HCL BPO, Convergys, TCS BPO, Quattro BPO, IBM Global, Aegis, EXL Service, Syntel, Firstsource, Transworks BPO, WNS Global, Genpact, Infosys, Interglobe IGT, Perot Systems, Softtek, Vertex, EDS, Wipro BPO, Caliber Point,

Recipient of 2009 economics prize has published research on the economics of supply chain outsourcing.

By Toby Gooley – October 26, 2009 http://www.dcvelocity.com

Much has been made of the fact that Indiana University Professor Elinor Ostrom, Ph.D., is the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize in economics. We’re all for that! But to our mind, the more exciting news is that co-recipient Oliver E. Williamson, Ph.D., has a supply chain connection.

Williamson, who is the Edgar F. Kaiser Professor Emeritus of Business, Economics, and Law at the University of California, Berkeley, is an advisory board member of the Journal of Supply Chain Management (JSCM). The quarterly journal is published for academic researchers and scholars by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).

In addition to his advisory role at JSCM, Williamson contributed an article, "Outsourcing: Transaction Cost Economics and Supply Chain Management," to the journal in 2008. The journal has made it available for download free of charge from the "Highlights" section at the bottom of its home page. Links to the journal can also be found on the ISM Web site.

ISM is an association serving supply management professionals in 75 countries. The group offers professional credentialing through its Certified Professional in Supply Management program.

I have selected some text from carrier/industry websites in an effort to highlight the upcoming rate

I have selected some text from carrier/industry websites in an effort to highlight the upcoming rate change by UPS.

UPS announced their 2010 rate changes, which will be effective Monday, January 4. UPS announced that domestic Ground rates will increase an average of 4.9%. Even though the average increase is 4.9%, the all-important zone 2 one-pound minimum charge is up $0.27 cents to $4.84, an 5.9% increase. Overall, the 1-5 lb. Ground rates are up 6.4%. 6-10 pound rates are up 6.0%.

UPS also announced that domestic and international air shipments will increase by an average of 6.9%. However, as they have done in the past four years, UPS will lower the fuel surcharge index by 2 for a reported net increase on air and international shipments of 4.9%. For domestic air shipments, actual rate increases range from 4.9% to 9.2%, depending on service, weight and zone. Here are the average increases for domestic air shipments, by service level 1-35 lbs.:

· Next Day Air up an average of 7.8%

· Next Day Air Saver up an average of 8.1%

· 2nd Day Air up an average of 7.7%

· 3 Day Select up an average of just 7.2%

UPS also announced a number of changes to their accessorial rates — here are the highlights:

· Residential Surcharge, up $0.15 to $2.20, a 7.3% increase.

· Declared Value will increase $0.05 per $100 to $0.70, an 7.7% increase. The minimum charge for Declared Value will increase $0.15 to $2.10.

· Additional Handling will increase $0.50, to $8, a 6.7% increase.

· The Address Correction charge for UPS Ground packages will increase $2.00, to $10.00.

· The Daily Pickup charge will increase $1.00 per week.

UPS has two rural Delivery Area Surcharge lists—a "regular" DAS list, up 10 cents to $1.70 for commercial addresses and up 10 cents to $2.50 for residential addresses, and an "Extended DAS" , which has also increased $0.10 to $1.70 for commercial addresses and up 10 cents to $2.75 for residential addresses. More than 75 million people now live in a ZIP Code subject to at least one of these "rural" area charges—over 25% of the US population. Nearly 50 million of those people are subject to the Extended charges.

FYI; as of Friday morning, November 20th, FedEx had not yet announced their ground rate structure for 2010.

Army task force looks to ensure a smooth transition during continuing operations

· By Sean Gallagher – http://defensesystems.com/articles/2009/11/18/defense-it-logistics.aspx?s=ds_301109

·

The Defense Department continues to face a massive logistical problem in supporting operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. But with operations ending in Iraq and perhaps scaling up in Afghanistan, the nature of that problem is shifting. And the risks posed for potential loss, misrouting or subversion of the logistics chain are changing with them.

After the logistical nightmares faced by the military after Operation Desert Storm, DOD is working to make sure that it can rapidly return, reset and redeploy equipment from Iraq. The Army has created the Responsible Reset Task Force (R2TF) to ensure that the Army Materiel Command can execute the drawdown of forces from Iraq and “enable resetting the Army in the shortest time possible,” said Army Maj. Gen. Kevin Leonard, operations and plans chief for the Army Materiel Command, in a presentation to the National Defense Transportation Association in September.

“On the materiel side the numbers are just amazing,” said Col. Scot MacKenzie, director of the Army’s Communications and Electronics Command Lifecycle Management Command’s special project office for the drawdown, part of the R2TF. "The amount of property we’ve put over in-theater would make any corporation’s jaw drop.”

Now, the Army is faced with pulling out the huge amount of supply material invested in Iraq as efficiently and securely as possible, MacKenzie said. Thus, defense contractors, one of which is CACI International, are trying to help the Army achieve the rest in a secure manner.

“What we’re doing with DOD is making sure we don’t do anything to slow it down at the same time we’re implementing security into the system,” said Jeff Renard, senior vice president of CACI’s Supply Chain and Logistics Innovation Division Group.

Threat levels

The types of threats that supply chain systems face range from the mundane to the malicious. “Anywhere where you’re dealing with capabilities and materials that are extremely important in nature for the national defense, you invoke all those same actors that are threat actors in other areas,” said Ian Harper, cyber functional chief architect at CACI. Potential targets include food, regulated nuclear material, military vehicles and parts, and information technology assets, he said.

“I believe it’s our response in each case to determine where the weakness is, whether it’s internal or external,” Renard added.

CACI has been developing a set of best practices to help both DOD and industry to build security into the business processes of the supply chain for the entire life cycle of systems, Harper said. CACI is addressing international and technical standards, and taking into consideration their interaction with logistics, cyber and information technology components, he said. These are then addressed in management processes that can be repeated across operations, he said.

That includes work to make sure everyone and everything in a supply chain is identifiable and attributable. “Because it’s very difficult to determine where weaknesses are introduced into the supply chain, it’s very difficult for an organization to determine where that weakest link actually is," Harper said. "And because we haven’t focused on that in historical context, we really are kind of behind in trying to identify where those vulnerabilities are within the supply chain.”

CACI used some of that methodology in its work to secure the Navy’s warehouse management operations at Bangor, Wash., home of the Navy’s Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific, Renard said.

“They introduced passive [radio frequency identification] technology into the warehouse system, and integrated that into their network, the Navy Marine Corps Intranet, and tied the warehouse system into [the Common Access Cards] that people use to gain access to various facilities and data,” he said.

The effort involved applying wireless technologies and ensuring that they worked in a secure environment,” he said. Those systems were also integrated with the customer’s enterprise resource management system data. “Using our security framework, we were able to do that in a completely secure environment,” he said.

Tripp Lite SU6000RT3UHV Smart Online Rack/Tower PureSine High Voltage Uninterruptible Power Supply (6000VA, 200-240V Hardwired, 6U) Overview

Tripp Lite Smart Online SU6000RT3UHV on-line, double conversion UPS protects server, networking or telecommunications equipment from blackouts, voltage fluctuations and surges in a compact tower/rackmount housing. In rack configuration, power module and battery pack occupy only 3 rack spaces each (6U total). Upright tower placement of entire system supported with included tower stands.

This article on mens trail running will give you just a brief overview about what trail running is really all about. And it is not only just for men. In fact, this style of running is enjoyed by both young people as well as retired folks, by men as well as women. Cross country running is a terrific way to both get some great exercise as well as enjoy the great outdoors.

This type of running is also better on the joints and ligaments than your standard running on streets, bike paths or tarmac. I hope that after reading this article you will get out there and go for a run with nature. Nothing can be more exhilarating than the smell of pine and damp leaves underfoot as you travel along the paths in between trees and brush. It is such a rush, that only experiencing it can you really understand the joy.

Thankfully, mens trail running, and when I say men I am really including all folks who trail run, is becoming a much bigger sport as years go by. But what is it exactly. What makes this kind of running different from running in the park or on the street? Let me explain.

So many people complain that running becomes boring or too difficult as they age. Running on hard surfaces jars the joints over time, even with today’s super cushioned shoes. But even those who have given up on regular running are able to find a renewed love affair with the outdoors and exercise when taking up trail running. Cross country running is basically any running that takes place in “real” nature. This does not include a nice job around the bike path at your local park.

In fact most of us are used to trails that we hike in on the weekends. Well friends, if you choose to run or jog these trails, give yourself a pat on the back, as you’ve just done some awesome running. One of the great joys of mens trail running is the inexpensiveness of the sport. All you need is a good pair of running shoes made for trails which can be had for less than $100. Join us at my blog where we explore more ways for you to enjoy this style of running for everyone.

Shoes, more than any other article of clothing, have really come a long way in the past century. 100

Shoes, more than any other article of clothing, have really come a long way in the past century. 100 years ago, most people, men and women alike, had just one or maybe two pair of shoes- day shoes for work and night shoes for anything else.

In 2006, even the most modest of men probably have at least 5 pair. There’s tennis shoes, dress shoes, dress casual shoes, sandals, work boots, hiking boots and more, all just for men. And you would be hard pressed to find an American woman who owned less than 10-15 pair of shoes in this day and age- pumps, high heels, short heels, sandals in hundreds of varieties, and more.

But according to a recent internet poll by http://www.krstarica.com, 41% of Americans surveyed buy new shoes several times per year. That’s great news if you own a shoe store. But how do you ensure that those customers keep coming back to you? Running a successful shoe store in 2006 starts with minding the supply and design of the store. It is important to use these elements to create an environment that your customers will feel comfortable in.

Start with the details, because those are the things that customers notice first. Small things like having plenty of shoe mirrors and properly displaying your products can make a big difference. It’s easy to get caught up in having the latest and greatest products. That’s fine. But remember that shopping is an experience for customers, and that takes into account the whole store and staff, not just products.

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when designing your shoe store to help you attract and retain customers:

Pay Attention to Aisle Spacing: In an effort to offer the most, we sometimes forget that the most important thing to a shoe store customer is comfort. Make the store design reflect that ideal of comfort, and supply plenty of space in each aisle for several customers to try on and test out shoes at any given time.

Mirror, Mirror on the Floor: Give customers a convenient way to check out their new kicks by providing plenty of floor mirrors that will give them an “all-angles” look at their shoes. Second only to (and sometimes even more important than) comfort is style.

Put Your Products on Display: Again, instead of getting caught up in supplying more products, do a better job of providing better products and better displays for those products. Customers are much more prone to try on shoes they’ve seen on display than dig through boxes to find the right color and design for their tastes.

You don’t have the time or the resources to evaluate every applicant who strolls in. to guide your w

You don’t have the time or the resources to evaluate every applicant who strolls in. to guide your work, you should develop a profile of your “ideal” candidate. You may never find your ideal, but you will establish a basic framework that outlines the person you are looking for.

Developing an ideal candidate profile is similar to viewing a lineup of suspects after you’ve witnessed a bank robbery. The individual you pick out may not be the actual bank robber, but chances are the real criminal is strongly similar. Often, a lineup helps police establish the silhouette or basic framework of the person being sought. The police is clear even if the details are not. Likewise, your ideal candidate profile will give you a sharper idea of what you are really looking for, so that you can increase your odds of finding him or her.

Use the following outline to develop of profile of your ideal candidate:

Must have, or have done, or be able to do:

Experience: type and years

Industry: type, or specific companies, and years

Skills or talents

Education

Should have, or have done, or be able to do:

Experience: type and years

Industry: type, or specific companies, and years

Education

Would be nice to have, or have done, or be able to do:

Experience: type and years

Industry: type, or specific companies, and years

Skills or talents

Education

Be specific when you draft your outline. If you want someone with strong follow-up skills, say so. If you want an assertive person who can handle high stress, say so. To create a good match between job and candidate, you need to define the person as closely as you define the job.

Keep your company culture in mind, too. If your company is team-oriented and flexible, you want a candidate who is comfortable with teamwork—and not everyone is. If your department is highly structured, you want someone who works well in a structured situation. Describe the qualities that your company values so that you can find compatible candidates.

Just remember that defining the candidate is a lot like shopping for groceries: the more you toss into your shopping cart, the more you’ll pay. The cost of filling a job is influenced by two factors: how long it takes to find the candidate, and the supply of qualified candidates. The greater the number of must have items on your list, the longer it’s going to take to find that person. The greater the experience, skills, or education requirements, the smaller the supply of candidates and the larger the compensation package required to hire the person.

I have had three of these units for the past 5-6 years (one for my PC, one for the wife’s and one for the Tivo & cable box). We have relatively unreliable power here with it going off an average of once a month — usually for seconds at a time but occasionally for hours. Anyway these units have kept our stuff safe and running. However they don’t last too long on battery power. Just long enough for short power outages or long enough to shut things down.

The batteries wore out after about 2-3 years so I replaced them using batteries from a web vendor. Now the first battery of this second round has failed so I’m buying another round of three batteries.

Hopefully these units will last many more years.

Not Very Durable. Will need battery changes. – D. Amini – Washington DC
I have owned five of these UPS units over the past four years. I purchased three for my Mac and PC at home. Then I had to purchase two replacements for units that simply quit. Currently only ONE still works! I have very infrequent power outages, perhaps three in the past four years. These units work well to allow you to save your work and shut down. My G5 mac was so power hungry that I had to use one for the computer and another for the 23 inch LCD. I can’t comment on other UPS brands such as Belkin, but I have seen many competing brands on the web and at the computer stores. There seen to be quite a few dealers selling refurbished APC products but this may be a reflection of APC’s popularity rather than the poor reliability of their brand. My experience over the past four years has been mixed. These are not inexpensive units and you have to decide how precious your data becomes. If you really fear the loss of data during a blackout then the answer is clear. I chose to switch to high quality surge suppressors and never work during potential storms. Many users do not have that flexibility so a UPS is essential insurance. The units I puchased were identical and only one unit is still operational after four years. I can accept the need to replace the battery every one to two years; three of the batteries failed and alarms beeped until I bought new batteries. Prices vary from to depending on the vendor. Battery life depends on many factors so I don’t begrudge APC for wear and tear on the battery but to have 4 out of 5 units simply stop working is unacceptable. I bought APC branded batteries and can’t explain why the recurrent failures. I’m frustated with my APC products but it may be a problem with this model. Just beware of the hidden costs of battery replacement when purchasing an UPS!
Great item – David House – Dallas, TX USA
Had mine since December 1999 but noticed that the battery failed after about 3 years, like the other poster wrote, APC didn’t list a replacement at first but now they do and I finally got around to replacing it. Battery type is RBC2 for those wondering.

Solid unit, having a telephone line/out and USB controller is a plus.

When companies significantly alter their sales strategy, it’s clear they also have to rethink how they deliver their products to market. What may not be as obvious is that the shift in strategy could affect their reverse logistics operations as well.

Consider Dell Inc., the country’s second-largest PC maker and the company that made supply chain management an art form in the personal computing world. In the mid-1990s, Dell abandoned retail stores as a sales channel and focused exclusively on selling its products direct to customers. The remarkable results that ensued are the stuff of business legend.

Two years ago, however, Dell resumed selling into the retail channel in an effort to beef up sales and fend off arch-rival Hewlett-Packard Co., which has since surpassed Dell as the leading PC maker. Dell’s return to the retail space changed how it managed its supply chain. The change was most keenly felt in its reverse logistics operations.

Under the direct-to-customer model, managing reverse logistics was a relatively straightforward process. Because all of Dell’s computers were built to order, there was little excess inventory in the supply chain. When a customer returned a product, Dell’s policy was to refurbish and sell the unit.

The return to the retail channel introduced some complications. For one thing, Dell soon found itself saddled with excess inventory. The company quickly discovered that, in some cases, the parts were more valuable than the assembled unit itself. “In reality, a good portion of [those refurbished units] were not economically valuable,” Matt Snyder, senior manager of reverse logistics for Dell, said at the annual conference of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals in September.

Recognizing this, Dell created a parts channel. Now, when a computer is returned, the company must decide whether to refurbish it or break it down for parts. Refurbished computers are sold either through a Dell outlet or through a broker. Parts are either sold externally or transferred internally.

Refurbished parts have created a new profit source for the company, and reverse logistics is no longer considered a cost center at Dell, Snyder said. Today, the company’s reverse logistics mission is to “increase revenue-generating opportunities while decreasing operating expenses,” he said.

http://www.prweb.com/releases/Bryant/University/prweb3233594.htm “Empirical Evidence of RFID Impacts

http://www.prweb.com/releases/Bryant/University/prweb3233594.htm

“Empirical Evidence of RFID Impacts on Supply Chain Performance,” offers the first extensive review of quantitative data on how RFID technology has improved the performance of a variety of businesses.

Smithfield, R.I. (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 20, 2009 — Anecdotally, radio-frequency identification (RFID) has a reputation as a technology that has failed to live up to expectations. But in fact, RFID delivers a strong return on investment in several key areas of supply chain performance.

Those are the findings of two Bryant University professors whose paper, “Empirical Evidence of RFID Impacts on Supply Chain Performance,” offers the first extensive review of quantitative data on how RFID technology has improved the performance of a variety of businesses.

The paper, co-written by Bryant University’s John K. Visich, associate professor of management, and Suhong Li, associate professor of computer information systems, appears in the latest issue (Vol. 29, Issue 12) of International Journal of Operations and Production Management. Basheer M. Khumawala of the University of Houston and Pedro Reyes of Baylor University also contributed to the article.

Though confidentiality clauses make the collection of empirical evidence difficult, the authors identified a number of areas in business operations and management in which the addition of RFID technology led to a variety of measurable improvements. These include reductions in labor costs, inventory costs and waste, and increases in efficiency, reliability, quality, responsiveness, operational flexibility and throughput.

“This study will be especially useful for organizations proposing to introduce RFID technology into the supply chain,” said Visich. “For managers, the empirical evidence presented can help them identify implementation areas where RFID can have the greatest impact. The data can be used to build the business case for RFID and therefore better estimate ROI and the payback period.”

EDITORS and REPORTERS: Li and Visich are available for interviews. Electronic copies of their paper are available through Tracie Sweeney, Bryant University’s director of public relations. Send email to tsweeney(at)bryant(dot)edu.

· Oct 29, 2009

The Defense Department’s guidance on the military use of open-source software has been a long time in coming, and should ease the widespread concerns in the military about open source-use, observers say.

Earlier this month, DOD issued guidance that clarifies the use of open-source software, or software whose code is made freely available for others to use and modify. Although many of today’s most popular software programs are open-source, such as the Linux operating system and the Apache Web server, questions around procurement persisted in the military services. The guidance is not formally policy, but it offers clarifications on how to use open source software.

Acting DOD Chief Information Officer David Wennergren is expected to talk more about the guidance at the Government Open Source Conference, being held next week in Washington, according to sources.

The document has been needed for a while, observers note.

“A lot of people both within and around the Defense Department have been working on this for a long time. It’s very significant that this has been done,” said John Weathersby, the founder and executive director of the Open Source Software Institute, a non-profit institute dedicated to broadening the use of open source in government. “It is very significant in that it states — in writing— that open-source is a viable option and must be considered.”

The document had been in draft at least since mid-2008. Daniel Risacher, who handles enterprise services and integration issues for the office of the CIO, has led the effort to develop it.

However, even before this clarification earlier efforts had been made to fit the strange new world of open-source software into the world of highly standardized government procurement procedures. Weathersby points to the study authored by Mitre’s Terry Bollinger, “Use of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) in the U.S. Department of Defense,” which highlighted the then-largely underreported widespread use of the open source within government.

Later that year, 2003, then-DOD CIO John Stenbit issued some basic guidance on the use of open source software, asking services to check its legality. In 2007, the Navy gave its okay for using the technology.

John Scott, director of open integration and open-source software for Mercury Federal Systems, who commented on early drafts of the new report, noted that the document is important because it clarifies that open-source software is a version of commercial software, an idea that had been widely debated given the grass roots development of many software programs.

“Its basically reiterating federal law, which states you have to look at commercial items [when building out new capabilities], and open-source is a commercial item,” Scott said. “It will be interesting to see what the impact of this will be over the long haul, because [services] will have to look at open-source software to meet the capability they have to build.”
