The other day, I tore into the Golden Globes for being star fetishists, arguing that their choices r

The other day, I tore into the Golden Globes for being star fetishists, arguing that their choices reflect a clear lack of interest in actually honouring the best in television (when Entourage is your default, there is something very wrong). However, I think sometimes we pick on the Golden Globes so much that we forget that other award shows which actually have some shred of credibility are just as capable of proving disappointing.

And so I feel I need to provide equal treatment, and criticize the Screen Actors’ Guild for a bizarre set of nominations (click the link to read if you want to know all of the context for the below rant) which seem to indicate that they’re not actually watching television at the moment. While the rut SAG has fallen into is less egregious than that of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, its relative credibility makes its shame a definite disappointment during this end of year awards season.

I don’t want to repeat the same arguments I made in the Globes post (in other words, my annoyance with a lack of Sons of Anarchy and Friday Night Lights remains intact), but I do want to focus on two fundamental failures of the SAG awards nominating structure. While the Globes are weird enough with their amalgamation of supporting roles in series/movies/miniseries, SAG does away with lead and supporting altogether, throwing all candidates into “Actor/Actress in a Drama/Comedy” categories. And also, instead of an award for “Outstanding Series,” since these are acting awards after all, the nominations go to “Best Ensemble in a Drama/Comedy,” which brings in a new kind of objective criteria to consider.

However, this year the limitations of this format were revealed.

First and foremost, there is not a single supporting actor or actress in the series television categories. Not one: no Michael Emerson, no Neil Patrick Harris, no Jane Lynch, no Cherry Jones, not anyone. All four acting categories are entirely populated with lead actors, and while there are a huge number of lead actors who are doing amazing work right now, there are other lead actors who are not on the same level as some of the stunning supporting players currently working in the television industry. And so while no one is going to argue that Michael Emerson should bump Jon Hamm or Bryan Cranston from their sports in Actor in a Drama Series, would anyone really argue that Emerson gave an inferior performance to Simon Baker in The Mentalist? As someone who likes Baker and that show (even if I kind of gave it up this season), that just seems wrong to me, the same way that Charlie Sheen grabbing a nomination over Neil Patrick Harris just doesn’t seem right.

It creates a perception that being the “star” of your show effectively makes you a better actor, which to me seems to be way off base for what the categories are supposed to achieve. By equalizing the category, you’re saying that all work done by actors on television is equal and that someone filling a supporting role should be judged fairly with those in lead ones. However, because acting is inherently political, it seems as if only those who have their name appearing first in the credits are capable of breaking into these categories. There are a number of amazing actors working in ensembles today who are putting in far more interesting with than Patricia Arquette in Medium or Christina Applegate in Samantha Who? (seriously, SAG?), and who are taking far more risks than Tony Shalhoub on Monk.

But, SAG would argue, that is why the Ensemble awards exist – they honour every single cast member, which means that those who are unable to break into the crowded acting categories can still get their trophy. And to some degree, those nominees do take care of some of the snubs: Glee has an Ensemble nod for Comedy (which could award Jane Lynch for her great work on the show), while Mad Men (where the entire supporting cast is fantastic, and where both January Jones and Elisabeth Moss were not nominated in Lead Actress) grabs a nomination in Drama. And a show like Modern Family, with a number of great performances, gets a deserved spot on the list. And if we look at the comedy list, rounded off by 30 Rock (which one can’t argue with), Curb Your Enthusiasm (which is strange when you consider it includes no guest stars, but show is enjoyable) and The Office (again, a great ensemble), you’d say that my criticism of SAG is unfounded.

However, when you look at the Drama category, everything falls apart. I like The Good Wife, but is there any scenario where its ensemble is superior to that of Breaking Bad, or Friday Night Lights, or Sons of Anarchy (okay, so I am going to complain about those shows, sue me)? And while Kyra Sedgwick’s performance is much lauded, is there any universe where The Closer has a stronger ensemble than Lost? And while John Lithgow, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall put together some great performances this year, can we honestly say that Dexter has a strong ensemble with anything not involving those characters this season was a fundamental waste of time? When True Blood is the nomination I find least offensive (in that the show’s cast of supporting characters is perhaps its greatest charm), you know that something feels really wrong here.

The problem is that SAG’s reputation and standing create expectations that their nomination structure only expands on: by suggesting that they’re going to actively consider the ensembles of various shows, you hope that they’ll look to see what shows have the deepest bench and which shows are really clicking. And while in a category like comedy it seems like they “got that” with the Ensemble awards (I’d probably have found a way to get Community in there, but snubs are expected), the Drama nominees indicate that they didn’t get it at all. There are shows I am disinterested in (see: Damages) that unquestionably have better performances than The Good Wife (a well-executed but simple drama series), so it’s not as if I expect the show to match up with my tastes.

However, if they’re going to create expectations of equality or recognizing the work of an entire cast, their nominees need to offer a better reflection of that before I elevate them above the Globes based on past behaviour alone.

Cultural Observations

It didn’t fit into the narrative of this particular rant, but if SAG voters are seriously watching enough CBS to nominated Baker, Margulies and Sheen, that they didn’t nominate Jim Parsons is downright confounding. I was hoping that at the very least the actors would take Parsons’ amazing performance more seriously than the Globes, but apparently even actors have no souls.

Lead Actress Drama is probably the worst category overall: Arquette, Hargitay, Segwick and Hunter are all boring nominees who have been doing the same thing throughout their shows’ runs, so for them to grab nominations over people like Jones and Moss from Mad Men, or Katey Sagal from Sons of Anarchy, or even the Big Love wives (Tripplehorn, in particular, from what I hear of the third season), is getting to be more than a little bit frustrating. It’s not often I’d accept a Grey’s sweep, but give me Chandra Wilson/Sandra Oh here any day.

I know Lithgow was great this season on Dexter, so I understand the ensemble nod to some degree, but I’d have easily placed Lithgow into the main acting category and been done with it, personally.

Just watched the grand TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards Presentation (Year 2009), it is an exciting award

Just watched the grand TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards Presentation (Year 2009), it is an exciting awards ceremony where nominated TVB artists are seated to welcome the winners of the night. Eventhough it tooks 2 hours and 30 minutes (quite long), but it is very entertaining, with some artists making jokes and funny remarks.

Can’t believe that Tavia Yeung sat at the first row, first row is dedicated to previous best actresses or actors (in this case, actresses). It shows obviously that TVB is highly-promoting Tavia. Good too, since her acting skill is no doubt, good. However, it seems unfair to Myolie Wu, Sonija Kwok, who sat in second row. Almost all of the artists present wear beautiful clothing, except Linda Chung and Liza Wang (what’s wrong with them!)

The official nomination list is revealed a month ago, and now, let’s see the results, the winners.

TVB.com Popularity Award: Wayne Lai.

My opinion: No doubt that he won this award too. He is now so famous, even on the public street, being recognized as Chai Gau (name of his character in the hit series, Rosy Business). He is gaining much popularity lately. At first, I thought Yoyo Mung or Tavia Yeung will win this, because their rankings in TVB.com is top 2.

Best variety show – Club Sparkle.

Top 5 – Club Sparkle, Super Trio Supreme, Beautiful Cooking, Since 1967, The Voice.

My opinion: I have watched some episodes of the series. Really likes the humour and jokes made by the presenters, Ng Kwan Yue and Chin Ka Lok. This show really helps us to get along with the artists and even directors of movies.

Best host of variety show – Eric Tsang, Chin Ka Lok, Wong Cho Lam, Louis Yuen(Super Trio Supreme)

Top 5 – Leo Ku (Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?), Sandra Ng and Chin Ka Lok (Club Sparkle), Ronald Cheng, Alex Fong, Edmond Leung (Beautiful Cooking), Siu Yee and Sammy Leung (Neighbourhood Treasures), Eric Tsang, Chin Ka Lok, Wong Cho Lam, Louis Yuen (Super Trio Supreme)

My opinion: It’s time for the four person to win again. These four are always making funny remarks and images. The show is kinda humorous and gives fun to viewers, really helps in reducing stress. Their cooperation as a team (quite a large team – 4 person) finally paid off, because last time is only of three.

Best Documentary Programme – One From The Heart

My opinion: Not much opinion on it, because these programmes are not aired in Malaysia yet. From the previews of these programmes I have seen, the winning programme seems to touch on the life of famous TVB artists like Louise Lee, Michelle Yim, Liza Wang, etc. I think this is what makes this programme won.

Most Improved Female Artist – Aimee Chan

Top 5 – Queenie Chu, Koni Lui, Catherine Chau, Sharon Chan, Aimee Chan.

My opinion: She has improved a lot in latest series she has acted in, especially in Burning Flame 3, acting as girlfriend and wife of Bosco in the series. Many would think Sharon Chan is a better choice after being defeated by Nancy Wu last year in the same category.

Most Improved Male Artist – Pierre Ngo

Top 5 – Johnson Lee, Pierre Ngo, Raymond Wong, Raymond Chiu, Jim Tang.

My opinion: He has acted in so many series, and joined TVB for more than 10 years. Hence, it’s surely a deserving time for him to win this award. Besides that, his acting in the famous series, Rosy Business as the bad eldest son is good too.

Best Performance of the Year – Tavia Yeung

My opinion: She is the one surely deserving the award. This award is newly created, and is judged by the panels, not by votings. It is the first time for her to act as the villain in a series, a great breakthrough for her in Beyond the Realm of Conscience.

Most Favourite TV Female Character – Tavia Yeung (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

Top 5 – Sheren Tang (Rosy Business), Teresa Mo (Off Pedder), Tavia Yeung (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Charmaine Sheh (You’re Hired), Charmaine Sheh (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Tavia Yeung is heavily-promoted lately, especially on Beyond the Realm of Conscience. Many people loves Tavia’s acting skill, keeps on improving and getting attention of viewers., including me. Her evil facial and eyes expression in the series, gave her the award, deserving too. Now, this award is given to Tavia, so the Best Actress is surely Sheren Tang.

Most Favourite TV Male Character – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business), Kevin Cheng (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Dayo Wong (You’re Hired), Moses Chan (Gem of Life), Michael Tse (E.U.)

My opinion: Definitely for the only deserving one, Wayne Lai. Everyone remembers his quote from the series, Rosy Business; ‘one person has how many ten lives?’ which is very meaningful. His acting is superb and excellent, with enoguh experience to win this award. He is so famous right now.

Best Supporting Actress – Susan Tse (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Linda Chung (Gem of Life), Susan Tse (Rosy Business), Fala Chen (Stew of Life), Susanna Kwan (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Michelle Yim (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Really happy to know that Susan Tse is winning this award. Just coming back to TVB this year, her acting skill is unpredictable on her first appearance in Rosy Business, the famous series of the year. Her face aids her a lot in acting as villain in series, very naturally evil-looking (to be honest). Her facial and eyes expression as the main villain are excellent too. I remember a quote from her in the series; ‘you are my heavenly enemy, born to be fated as my greatest enemy’. Wow, cool..

Best Supporting Actor – Michael Tse (E.U.)

Top 5 – Ngok Wah (Gem of Life), Michael Tse (E.U.), Pierre Ngo (Rosy Business), Lee Kwok Lun (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Kenneth Ma (Born Rich)

My opinion: Everyone knows he will definitely win this award. I support him too. His appearance in the series, E.U. affected the performance of the whole series. Without Laughing Gor (name of his character in the series which is very famous), E.U. would not be that successful. Many people are puting it as a hot issue even after the series finish airing. A new movie is created and entitled “Laughing Gor” that tells a story about him too.

Best Actress – Sheren Tang (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Ada Choi (Gem of Life), Teresa Mo (Off Pedder), Sheren Tang (Rosy Business), Charmaine Sheh (Beyond the Realm of Conscience), Tavia Yeung (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Sheren Tang definitely deserves this award, to become TV Queen of the year. Her acting skill is no doubt, the best among the best. Her performance in Rosy Business as the fourth wife is great, fantastic and awesome. Honestly, no other actress could replace her performance in the series. Happy that she won it finally, remembering that she has been defeated by Gigi Lai in the same category, both under the same series, War and Beauty few years back which caused much stir on public responses.

Best Actor – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business)

Top 5 – Wayne Lai (Rosy Business), Steven Ma (Sweetness in the Salt), Bosco Wong (Burning Flame 3), Dayo Wong (You’re Hired), Moses Chan (Beyond the Realm of Conscience)

My opinion: Again, this year’s best actor is the one and only one, Wayne Lai. Everyone remembers him from the funny Chu Pat Kai in Journey to the West till the current days as Chai Gau in Rosy Business. Everyone knows his acting skill is superb, talented, experience-filled. Everyone remembers his quotes in the series, like what I have mentioned earlier. His character in the series really puts him front, so front that no other actors are even able to fight with him for the award to become the TV King of the year.

Best Series – Rosy Business.

Top 5 – E.U., Rosy Business, Burning Flame 3, You’re Hired, Beyond the Realm of Conscience.

My opinion: Predicted result, since many important awards are grabbed by Rosy Business members (Sheren Tang, Wayne Lai, Susan Tse, Pierre Ngo). This series turns out to be among the most successful series among all, reaching 47 rating points in the ending. The plot is fantastic, the acting is awesome, everything is great in this series. It is not highly-promoted like Beyond the Realm of Conscience, but gets much attention from viewers too and gaining high popularity among the public too. Too bad that the heavily-promoted Beyond the Realm of Conscience did not win eventhough the ending gets 50 rating points, the highest, series with highest rating of the year, and of all, similar to TVB’s Moonlight Resonance and non-TVB’s Jewel in the Palace. This series is quite good too, but some of the script is poorly-written and the plot went exagerrated, it runs too fast at the end there, eventhough there are so much effort put on this series.

Lifetime Achievement Award – Lee Tim Seng.

My opinion: He has joined TVB long long time ago as a normal actor. Then, he leaved to become directors of TVB series. He had directed many famous TVB series, some even in few decades ago, and the latest one is the best series of the year, Rosy Business. His hard work is finally paid off by getting the highest and the most significant award of the presentation night. Hopes that he will continue to direct more better series in upcoming years. Don’t retire so fast.

————————-

My overall opinion: Basically, I was happy with the overall result. Many of my picks have won the awards, and it’s really good for them and for me as well, can be considered birthday gift for me. Rosy Business grabbed almost all important awards this year, while Beyond the Realm of Conscience only managed to win one, despite included in Top 5 many times. The whole award show is very entertaining (remembering how Law Kar Ying said about his wife, Liza Wang, whom sitted right beside the stage, staring at him). The awards ceremony seems to get better every year. Keep it up, TVB, create more better series in upcoming years!

You know.. if there is one thing i hate it is people being unreliable in general.. and un-punctual i

You know.. if there is one thing i hate it is people being unreliable in general.. and un-punctual in particular. i dont mind waiting.. once in a while… i can understand that ‘things’ happen and can get in the way.. thats all not a problem.. it is understandable and that’s life.

I personally am over-punctual.. i get totally stressed-out if i have the feeling that i will be late… for whatever. For years now i have not been wearing a watch.. because i thought not wearing one would perhaps make me a bit more tolerant towards myself. But no, it does not work that way. One of the things i might get myself for christmas this year is a watch! All i do now is run around checking out the time on my mobile phone, on tv or on my pc. so.. i am still over-punctual.. even though i try not to be.

However… just because i am like this..i do NOT expect others to be the same. This is one of my basic philosophies. I cannot expect others to live like me.. they live in their reality.. and i live in mine – and if punctuality is one of my big issues… well fine. It is my problem.

So perhaps i should not even complain….. just shut up and leave it as it is… but hey.. i cannot. No.. not completely. See i have this friend.. no..she is more than that.. she is my sister.. i love her dearly.. we have been in touch for over 3 years now.. we are thick as thieves.. we laugh, we cry, we giggle… we make plans – re her and her family visiting us.. and vice versa. All lovely and fun.. the sister i never had… the best friend i also never had. so this is really an awesome relationship Ii cherish it and her.. her children are my nieces and nephews.. her husband is my bro-in-law.. we talk about everything, share… in short i love her like i would love my real sis.. provided i had one.. or perhpaps not? I do realize that there are sisters that do not get along.. but she is or would be the ideal sis.

Anyway… she has been having problems.. many of them im the past. Her health, her hubby’s health, her youngest daughter was being mobbed at school, a friend of her was murdered, her husband was a real ass – but that has been resolved in the meantime! – lots and lots and lots has happened.Oh yes.. and she let her female dog get pregnant twice in succession….. in my eyes, out of carelessnes.. i was furious about that, i admit and told her off. Being a dog-person myself i have very strict views on breeding, keeping dogs etc. those accidents do NOT happen if you are watchful.. if you care.. and if you are
responsible.. but a young female.. not even 1 year old .. pregnant? and then again right after the first litter was out of the house?? Hell and damnation! no way!!! So that was the only ‘hair in the soup’ between the two of us. But it was never a problem.. we both believe that only by being honest can you be really friends and help each other…

But then… i am having problems with my internet provider.. so much so that i can only be online properly after midnight.. ok that makes things difficult. She was without a connection for weeks.. because the bill was not paid.. – my nephew had been surfing without her knowledge and the bill went skyhigh! We stayed in touch via short message system .. the phone is a problem for me because we do not live in the same countries.. and i only have a mobile phone as there are no landlines available here.

So then? well… contact just got less and less…. i can still understand that cause she is very busy with an upcoming family celebration.. a BIG THING.. as you might say I miss her.. but then i was busy too.. moving house.. getting settled-in in the new place…… all that.. and now.. 3 times we made dates to meet online…… ok i admit the first time i did not turn up – left a message though.. i was so tired that i just plain felt i was going to fall asleep.. after all we do meet around midnight.. next time i was there.. she turned up 2 hours late.. by then i WAS in bed. we having a time difference of 1 hour.. and the last time.. i was there…. and she just plain forgot …… *sigh*………… i hate it. I feel….. unimportant… neglected…. yes.. i realize that this post has nothing to do with being punctual.. it is about feeling neglected…

where does that leave me? yeah.. i agree. a friendship can take this…

To do this, the suggestion is to buy products produced by local artisans via the web. This is a great suggestion and one I think I will try and support from time to time. It is a great way to assist people in difficult situations.

I never expected to agree with everything that ‘365 Ways to Change the World,’ by Michael Norton, suggested. So it comes as no surprise to me to find a suggestion with which I have an issue – so to speak.

The suggestion for today is about buying Palestinian olive oil as a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people and their plight. However, I am loathe to do this.

Why? Is it because I support the Israeli oppression of the Palestinians? No, I do not support the oppression of the Palestinian people. But neither do I support the anti-Israel rhetoric that seems to be continually doing the rounds.

I would love to see an end to the occupation of lands captured during the 1967 war and do not support Israeli settlements in these areas. However, one does need to remember the fact that Israel did not start that 1967 war and the surrounding nations have largely set an agenda since the birth of the modern Israeli state to crush it. There has also been an unending campaign of terror against the Israeli state and Israel has a right to defend itself.

It would be great to see lasting peace in Palestine and for that to happen both sides need to address the important issues I have mentioned here and others. But it is both sides that need to do it – not just Israel and not just the Palestinian people. It is both sides. That is what I support here.

Part of the list of TVB 42nd Anniversary Awards (2009) are out, confirmed and official nomination list:

These are the few most important categories:

Bolded ones are my pick of top 5 and itallic one is my predicted winner.

Best Actor Nominees

Wayne Lai – Rosy Business (definitely he will win, no one doesn’t know his phrase of ‘one person has how many ten years’ in the series)
Ray Lui – Born Rich
Gallen Lo – Born Rich (comeback to act in series after a long break, fresh outcome, acts as the villain too)
Wong He – Burning Flame III

(Born Rich and Off Pedder might be a dark horse in this category, but Beyond the Realm of Conscience will definitely win with some challenges from Rosy Business)

So fast one year has gone, still remember last time, very grateful that Michelle Yim and Ha Yu won TV Queen and King…this year who…who…who…???

Alright, we’re gonna be trying something new here. In the effort to add interesting content and make this blog something readable, I’m adding a column… deal with it. You guessed it, it’s called Character Corner. No, it’s not stupid, you’re stupid… See, doesn’t feel nice, does it?
I want to take a closer look at all those actors whose faces we know so well, but whose names escape us; the character actors. The unsung workhorses of Hollywood, and damn talented people.
So what is a character actor actually? It’s ussually known as an actor that predominately plays secondary or supporting roles. They don’t have the leading man/woman looks (or their salaries), a bit broader acting styles (to accommodate positions like “the comic relief” or “the best friend”), and a relatability that the pretty dramatic leads tend to be missing. As Phil Hartman put it, “[character actors] are the glue that holds the story together.
The interesting thing about the character actor is that they often times work far more than the leading men. Where a leading man may do one film, a character actor can do five. The reason for this is actually their relative anonymity. If we see a particular leading actor too often, we lose interest and move on to someone else. Since the leading actors bear this burden, the character actors don’t have to. Our focus is not on them, so we don’t get tired of seeing them. For this reason, character actors tend to have far longer and more varied careers than leading men and women. Once their fame builds over years and years, the public finally allows them to take the reigns of a story and drive it forward. So many of our truly great actors started as character actors.
Lets name a few character actors, and see if you’re surprised.
Jeff Goldblum: Jurassic Park, Independence Day, Igby Goes Down
Martin Landau: North by Northwest, Ed Wood, Treasure Island
Hank Azaria: The Simpsons, Grosse Pointe Blank, The Birdcage (He’s only recently gained any sex appeal, I have to add)
Clancy Brown: The Shawshank Redemption, Mortal Combat, Dead Man Walking (trust me, you know him)
Gary Cole (NOT Coleman): Pineapple Express, The Brady Bunch Movie, Office Space
Chris Cooper: October Sky, American Beauty, The Bourne Trilogy

See what I mean? Tune in next friday and see which actor is being profiled this week.

How Can Obama Appear on Letterman after Boycotting Imus?
Source: American Thinker

Two years ago, after radio-show host Don Imus called the young ladies on the Rutgers basketball team “ho’s,” presidential candidate Barack Obama announced he would not appear again on Imus’ show.

But he didn’t stop there. Shortly after Imus apologized,

Senator Obama also called for him to be fired.

ABC’s Jake Tapper reported that of the major presidential candidates, “Obama is the first one to say Imus should lose his job…”

Obama’s unforgiving stance, while understandable, was in striking contrast with his offers of healing, reconciliation, and dialogue to Iran and North Korea.

Obama said that Imus “didn’t just cross the line. He fed into some of the worst stereotypes that my two young daughters are having to deal with today in America…It was a degrading comment. It’s one that I’m not interested in supporting [by appearing on Imus' show]“

Did BHussein Obama just stereotype his kids as nappy headed ho’s? Am I misunderstanding his statement?

David Letterman’s joke about Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter getting pregnant at a Yankees game, and characterization of Palin as “slutty,” were remarkably similar to Imus’ offense, the main difference being that Imus expressed sincere regret. Letterman’s peculiar “apology” was that he had really intended to demean Palin’s 18-year-old daughter, not the 14-year-old; and he never apologized for calling Palin a slut.

President Obama has reversed his zero-tolerance stance against the degrading of girls and women, and will be Letterman’s guest for a full hour on Monday, the first sitting president to appear on the show. If Letterman had sexually demeaned one of President Obama’s daughters and called the First Lady “slutty,” would Obama be appearing on the show? Would Letterman even still have a show?

No! I would NEVER! I’m only sexually attracted to little WHITE children – NOT little black ones.

SNSD / Girls’ Generation’s Jessica is supporting her little sister, Krystal, for f(x)

SNSD / Girls’ Generation’s Jessica is supporting her little sister, Krystal, for f(x)’s upcoming debut, but that’s not all. As if sister support wasn’t enough, Jessica’s fans have put together a gift for Krystal also.

Krystal’s new girl group, f(x), had a showcase yesterday and Jessica’s fans sent a huge bouquet of flowers to show their support. Just like Jessica, they stated how proud of Krystal they are on the bouquet. The message on the bouquet read, “Wow, our little Krystal, break a leg! Jessica’s Gallery (Jessica’s fanclub) supports f(x)!”

While Jessica is busy working on Legally Blonde the Musical the Korean version where her role is Elle Woods, she is still trying to find some time to support her sister and sends encouraging messages. Now her fans are helping her out which is a great gesture to Jessica and Krystal.

Today was another day of doing presentation to Army couples. I really enjoy the work and the informa

Today was another day of doing presentation to Army couples. I really enjoy the work and the information appears to be helpful for the participants.

I got to spend some individualized time with another counselor who was working named, Debbie. She and I traveled on the highway together and stopped for dinner. We ended up staying there three hours as we found more and more things we had in common. It was a great conversation and I’m hoping we get to spend even more time together.

Later, I picked my guy up at the airport. He had been visiting his parents for the past five days and it was great to see him.

While I was at the airport, I got a call from a friend who needed help dealing with a friend of hers she thought was possibly suicidal. The woman is not even someone she knows well. She’s just a person she met through another acquaintance on Facebook.

This woman has cancer and her boyfriend just broke up with her. My friend wanted to know what to say. I told her to ask if she was thinking of hurting herself. What she learned is that she was actually thinking of suicide. My friend was able to help her get through the night and make some plans for the short-term future.

I am so grateful for people like my friend. She is not trained in counseling or social work but she sure does care about people, even people she hardly knows.

Wouldn’t this world be a better place if everyone just looked out for each other and extended help when it was needed? When was the last time you helped someone you weren’t responsible for?
