The moment has finally arrived, Supra has dropped their much anticipated second version of the Skytop, dubbed the Skytop II. With only 600 pairs released worldwide, the kicks feature a white, gray and red colorway, coming with two pairs of laces. With these we see a higher ankle, a patent lining [which is a reversal from what we typically see on the Supra] and a rubber sole reminscent of old school Vans.

Recently, DJ and sometimes Lindsay Lohan kanoodler Samantha Ronson teamed up with Supra to produce a high-top sneaker. “The shoes are a version of the brand’s Indy pair but in a new set of colors — distressed black suede with a gold detail and white sole,” wrote New York Magazine’s The Cut Fashion Blog.

According to Ronson’s Web site, she’ll have a new sneaker out late this month. ”Originally not planned for a public release, we’ve decided to drop a limited run of these hyper-colored TK’s after hearing your cries for blood. 600 pairs of each colorway will be produced,” Ronson writes.

Coming in Jaunary, according to Converse Shoe Store’s blog, the footwear company will release “several shoes dedicated to The Clash. Most notably is the Converse London Calling shoes which celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the album. Explains excellent women’s sportswear blogger FemaleSneakerFeinds, “Reebok’s celebrating the 20th birthday of their Reebok Pump by collaborating with 20 elite shops to design their own versions of these classics. Here is Colette’s take, and I love ‘em!”
The catch: According to SuperXOfficial, “Only 30 pairs of these kicks will be produced so either catch a flight to France on November 16th (the day they drop) or check eBay on the 17th in the a.m.” We’re passed those crucial dates, but it’s still worth checking.

Svaneti, venerdì 21 agosto

Ci apprestiamo a vivere quella che sarà la giornata più difficile, avventurosa, pazza, complicata, affascinante del viaggio, almeno fino a questo punto.

Siamo ancora in coma da ieri. A pomeriggio abbiamo avuto come guida speciale Marietta che ci ha mostrato le bellezze della capitale sotto un cielo plumbeo.

Stanotte partiremo per Svaneti, una delle regioni più affascinanti ma anche più difficili della Georgia, in alta montagna, Forse il posto che fin da prima della partenza attendevamo con più trepidazione. Da Tbilisi dovremmo metterci circa una dozzina di ore di macchina, ma dobbiamo prima lasciare in aeroporto Furio alle due di notte, visto che il suo volo parte alle tre. Nell’attesa della partenza, qualcuno riesce a schiacciare un pisolino.

Lasciamo Furio in aeroporto con i saluti del caso. A questo strano orario l’aeroporto è pieno. Esistono molte compagnie (straniere) che partono in questi orari assurdi, forse perché le tariffe sono vantaggiose, o per permettere agevoli connessioni in Europa? Mah, sicuramente partire a quest’ora ti distrugge.

Al suo posto carichiamo Mindia che fa la guida nella sua regione, Khevsureti, un altro posto perso in montagna nei cui drammatici scenari Giorgi ha girato il suo film (non ancora terminato) The Land of lost Crusaders. Pur con qualche contrattempo alla fine si parte.

L’idea è di usare le ore notturne per questo viaggio lunghissimo, anche se in macchina dormiremo poco e niente. Cercando di farci cosa gradita, i nostri amici riescono nell’impresa quasi impossibile di installare uno schermo LCD in macchina collegandolo con l’autoradio, che funge anche da lettore DVD. Ci sparano Pink Floyd The Wall, il concerto per la caduta del Muro e in successione The making of degli “Aerosmith”.

Dopo una notte quasi insonne, la prima fermata verso le otto di mattina è Zugdidi. Ci troviamo nella regione di Samegrelo dove esiste una lingua diversa (mengrelo) che il resto dei georgiani non capisce, come accade anche a Svaneti con la lingua svan [si veda la storia sulla lingua georgiana]. Dicono che i mingreli siano molto intelligenti, e le mingrele tra le ragazze più belle della Georgia. Ci troviamo vicinissimi al confine con l’Abkhazia, la repubblica ribelle, ora appoggiata dai russi, dalla quale sono scappati circa 300mila georgiani. Samegrelo era già depressa, ora ci vivono anche molti profughi dell’Abkhazia e la situazione è ancor più difficile. Si dice che oltre la metà della popolazione sia costituita da rifugiati.

Ancora rimbambiti dal sonno e dopo un té tonificante nell’unico bar aperto, visitiamo parzialmente il parco ed il palazzo della famiglia Dadiani, i duchi di Samegrelo. Sembra che al suo interno il museo contenga anche una delle maschere mortuorie di Napoleone, ma è troppo presto per visitarlo.

Per caso troviamo invece aperto lo stadio del club locale (il Baia Zugdidi) e non ci facciamo pregare per entrare.

Stranamente (o forse neanche tanto), qui resistono ancora un boulevard ed una statua dedicati a Zviad Gamsakhurdia, ex presidente georgiano, un mingrelo, che proprio a Zugdidi nel 1993 aveva il quartier generale delle sue milizie armate [si veda la storia].

Giorgi compra il pane caldo appena sfornato, incartato in una pagina di un registro scolastico in georgiano, parzialmente annotato. Chissà com’è finita in panetteria.

Continuiamo verso la nostra meta. Da qui fino a Mestia ci sono solo 135 km, tra i più complicati del percorso. Si va abbastanza piano seguendo il fiume Enguri, lo stesso che più a valle segna il “confine” con l’Abkhazia e che qui è immenso. La strada è accidentata, con maiali liberi e più avanti anche mucche.

Ci fermiamo per uno spuntino in una specie di garage aperto. Dentro alcune signore enormi preparano la specialità del luogo, kudbari, dei fagottini di pasta sapientemente ripieni di carne e fegato di vitello poi infornati. Si aspetta molto ma ne vale la pena.

Nell’attesa, più sotto sul fiume scorgiamo un ponte ad assi sull’acqua agitata.

Il garage è addobbato con dipinti riguardanti la supra ed il ritratto del proprietario, con baffi e panza d’ordinanza, il tipico berretto di queste parti e con le nuvole alle sue spalle. Sarà passato a miglior vita?

Si vendono ovviamente varie bevande alcooliche, tra le quali anche una strana bottiglia da 1,25 litri di Slavutič, la birra di Zaporož’e (chiamata anche Zaporižžia, in Ukraina orientale) di cui nel 2002 insieme ad Andrea visitammo la fabbrica.

Il nostro mezzo ha qualche problema al radiatore, ma si continua tra i burroni.

Ci fermiamo ad Etseri, un piccolo borgo dove vive Lali la cugina di Giorgi, figlia degli zii che avevamo visitato a Kakheti [si veda la storia], con suo marito Zezva.

Lasciamo la macchina ai piedi del villaggio per evitare di spaccarla ulteriormente e iniziamo l’ascesa verso la casa tra paesaggi bellissimi. Mucche al pascolo e sedute, case in pietra, slitte di legno usate in inverno, che da queste parti sarà sicuramente molto duro.

Come al solito anche qui ci aspettano al varco. Tutta la famiglia è già pronta a rifocillare gli ospiti. Manca solo riempire la tavola.

Sulla nostra pelle (fegato) impariamo che nella supra non si usa sempre il vino. Nelle montagne sperdute, come qui a Svaneti, si può anche andare avanti a chacha, la grappa georgiana: forse così si compatta l’alcool in un volume minore, ma anche perché qui siamo troppo alti e il vino non si produce. Anzi, il vino l’abbiamo portato noi, insieme ad ingenti quantità di frutta, ma giustamente se lo tengono per la casa.

Abbiamo l’ennesima prova dell’estrema ospitalità georgiana. Uno zio della famiglia funge da tamadà, forse il migliore che abbiamo conosciuto in questi giorni. Sicuramente è un personaggio anche per i tratti somatici.

Anche qui le donne non sono presenti a tavola, solo la zia, vestita di nero, con un fazzoletto in testa e meno anziana di quello che sembra, appare di continuo per servire in tavola decine di piatti.

Iniziamo con un matsoni (densissimo yoghurt locale), seguito da una specie di polenta bianca con formaggio, come tutto il resto fatto in casa, per continuare con altre prelibatezze. Ma i ritmi si fanno subito molto serrati e con la grappa non è facile. Per affrontare una giornata simile sarebbe stato il caso di essere riposati ed io invece sono stracotto.

Dopo vari brindisi in successione, il climax: escono due cornoni (khanci) mai visti così grandi in una tavola georgiana, ovviamente riempiti di chacha.

Dopo due ore passate in questo modo e con chiacchiere fantastiche, usciamo affaticati, ma il freddo che fa fuori ci viene minimamente in aiuto prendendoci quasi a sberle.

Salutiamo le donne sull’uscio di casa, mentre gli uomini con il passo incerto ci accompagnano giù fino a dove avevamo lasciato la macchina.

Per l’emozione (e forse anche per la chacha), il tamadà ha le lacrime agli occhi.

Finito il pranzo alle cinque, pensavamo che il nostro obiettivo fosse vicino. Invece ci attendono ulteriori e infinite complicazioni, con la strada che diventa sempre più aspra inframezzata da mille guadi. A posteriori ci siamo resi conto che nel buio del viaggio di stanotte avevamo urtato un animale sulla strada: ha probabilmente danneggiato il radiatore, che ora perde e molto. Per fortuna tra i 1400 e i 2000 metri del nostro percorso non mancano i corsi d’acqua: quando ne troviamo riempiamo tutti i recipienti che abbiamo, bottiglie e bocce comprese. Ogni quarto d’ora siamo costretti a fermarci per riempire il radiatore che si svuota rapidamente.

Arriviamo finalmente a Mestia, la “capitale” di Svaneti, ovvero il suo villaggio centrale, caratterizzato dalle tradizionali torri medievali in mezzo però all’architettura razionale socialista, un mix da togliere il respiro.

Qui raccogliamo Guram con la moglie Laura e la figlioletta Elena. Guram è un amico di Giorgi dei tempi dell’università, originario di quassù. Ora con la famiglia è in vacanza da suo zio Gigla nel villaggio di Mulakhi, dove faremo base per i prossimi due giorni.

Pensavamo l’odissea fosse terminata, ed invece si contiua ancora. Abbiamo anche problemi per il collegamento con OndeFurlane: subito dopo Mestia il mio numero georgiano perde contatto con il mondo, per fortuna quello di Gio, di un’altra rete, funziona.

Ancora l’ultimo guado, all’imbrunire, e molti sassi ancora.

Raggiungiamo finalmente Mulakhi e la casa degli ennesimi zii ormai al buio. Facciamo il collegamento al freddo e con i piedi bagnati mentre gli altri portano su i bagagli. Per fortuna all’interno c’è lo spolert acceso.

Anche qui diventiamo subito ostaggio della famiglia di Guram, con una tavolata di una decina di persone. Stasera è saltata anche l’elettricità ma la cena così a lume di candela possiede un’atmosfera ancora migliore.

As a firm supporter of supra dating back to the first release of the 24kt gold skytops, i had to show respect by passing the torce to some new followers.

I’m really feeling these, they’re different to usual Supra’s and look more like Vans. They’re more casual and blend in which is a step out from typical Supra Skytops.
